We went there Saturday with my adult kids. Live band, I don't know Latina music, but it was great. It's a byob, so another big plus for that. Had valet parking, and it was raining, another plus. Food was really good. Had four apps and 4 entrees. My wife did the ordering, I just did the eating. What I remember was an Empanada, coconut shrimp were super big and 2 other apps. Immediately placed a resy after learning about a new Cuban spot in Englewood. The aesthetics is top notch. You can tell a lot of thought has been considered on the design and layout. Food wise for the Appetizer we started with the Grilled octopus, Pulpo A la Parilla. A little chewy but paired well with the vinaigrette. For our mains we got Ropa Vieja, recommended by the owner and Lechon Asado. They mixed up the entrees and the sides combination we ordered, but no harm since we were all sharing but it's something to work on. These two entrees come with a choice of two sides. It's a shame they ran out of the Maduros. I expected a grand opening month to have things stocked correctly. Instead we opted for the sides of yuca fries, roasted corn, and tostones. We also ordered the Grand Cubano sandwich. Another thing to note was that they didn't bring you the green sauce if you ordered yuca fries with the traditional Cuban dishes but did so for the sandwich. It goes well like fries with ketchup so i wish the sides of the traditional came with the sauce as well. Overall worth checking out and seeing for yourself. The Grand Cubano was a pleasant visit. They've done a good job with their decor and their dish presentation is also commendable. I enjoyed, that they gave us a carafe of water and provided plenty of extra napkins. My drink selection was the guava shake, with milk. It was served in a large glass, enjoyably sweet, and came with an appreciated whipped cream topping. We started with one of my favorite appetizers...the Tostones Rellenos (Fried green plantain cups, stuffed with ropa vieja-shredded beef). This appetizer was amazing! The shredded beef was exquisitely seasoned, the juice from the beef deliciously infused into the cups, and every bite was delectable. Both entrees were delightful. Picadillo (Cuban style ground beef, simmered with tomatoes, potatoes, spanish olives, peppers, and onions). Not only was the ground beef flavorful, but the side selections were INCREDIBLE. The Yuca con Mojo (Traditional cassava in garlic mojo. Served with onions) was delightful. Each forkful was scrumptious and the Sweet Plantains were.....well, my favorite side on this planet. The Cuban Sandwich was large enough to ask for a to-go box and the accompanying Yuca Fries nicely complemented the entree. We capped off the meal with Cortaditos (The cortadito is a traditional Cuban coffee drink made with espresso and steamed milk). Not only were the drinks enjoyable, but they were presented in beautiful cups. I will definitely return to The Grand Cubano and share meals with friends and family. There's street and valet parking. Beautiful decor but if your seated in the back private room there is no decor at all. Cubano nachos were delicious, we all loved it. Order yuca frita that came with little bit of garlic sauce so we ordered more sauce for the appetizer and for the entree. The food needed more seasoning. A big cup with just a bit of garlic sauce and than we noticed they charged us for extra sauce $1.50. If your going to charge us so much might else well fill the cup up. So the website says live music but doesn't mention you will be charged for the live music. $10 each person which is way too much. We were a table of 5people. They mention the charge two Hours before the reservation via text. Which we were celebrating a birthday on a Friday so we obviously couldn't change locations last minute. When we asked if the band could sing happy birthday the manager said no they don't do any requests and theres too many celebrations. Since the band took awhile to set up when we were there than took breaks, we told the manager How was he going to charge us for live music when they barely performed during the duration we were there. First time trying this restaurant and it was good! The portions were decent for the price and the service was great. We had a reservation for 5:30 but arrived early and were able to be seated at 5:15. On Saturday's there is apparently an additional cover of $10/person at 7pm for the live music but luckily we were able to leave before that because it was already a bit loud in there. The rice and beans seemed to be the best side with the yuca coming in second. Tostones were a bit dry and I have no idea why my brother would order fries. Empanadas were also just okay and the sauce it came with seemed lazily thrown together (for REALLY good chicken empanadas with a chimichuri I recommend Jose Tejas' pastelitos). Being a BYOB restaurant was great too, so overall, I would maybe visit again but only if I was already in the area. read more

Went there for the first time I wasn't impressed. The food is not authentic and my avocado salad was more like a wilted lettuce onion salad , maybe had half of an avocado and I'm being generous. I'm a vegetarian and not many options in the menu. Typically when I go to a restaurant I would order rice and beans with plantains or yuca. But in their case the black beans had pork. Not smart planning they shouldn't add pork to beans because it leaves less choices for a vegetarian to choose from. The rice was also dry and old. Extremely disappointed! All these amazing reviews and I don't understand how I ended up with this. The white rice was hard and burnt. The food was not seasoned. The roasted pork had chunks of fat chicken wings not seasoned. I ordered 4 items and the only meal that was edible was the pork roast sandwich. Idk who the chef is today, but the food was terrible. Oh my, I don't know where to start. This place was such a disappointment. We spent almost 40 dollars for just one meal. All the food was definitely made from frozen goods, the flavor was not there. The tostones were extremely soggy, not crispy at all. I have also never had such terrible tasting yucca before, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. It didn't have much meat either. I ordered the rope vieja and it was pretty good! My daughter had a sandwich and she loved it. Overall, the place was ok, but I wouldn't go back. Went to the fairly new Cuban restaurant in town to celebrate a birthday. The restaurant is situated on Grand and Palisade Ave which can get busy but there is valet parking for convenience. The restaurant itself has a nice welcoming vibe and very pretty decor. I especially loved the tropical looking greenery that was hanging from the ceiling. They seated us pretty quickly and the servers were attentive. We ordered the ceviche appetizer which came with avocado and plantain chips and ropa vieja empanadas for starters. Both delicious. For our entres, we had the lobster tail, grilled salmon and grilled chicken along with the Cuban staple of rice and black beans with maduros on the side. The food, service and ambiance is a nice addition to the neighborhood and enjoy a night out with friends while listening to a very good playlist of Latin music and a couple of live sets. This is a BYOB which I am starting to appreciate more and more as costs for cocktails have also gone up because of inflation. Where it falls very short is the obligatory $10 per person fee they are charging for the "entertainment". At time óf booking I was aware so it wasn't a surprise. Yet, when we arrived, the band had just finished their set so there was a good while before they played again. So we had to pay for entertainment that wasn't there for a good majority of the time; something I wouldn't have hardly noticed if I wasn't paying for $30 since we were a party of three. Prior to us being seated, a party of ten spent a good amount of time complaining to the hostess because they were unhappy about having $100 added right off the bat when all they just wanted to do is have dinner. Later the couple next to us said they could get live entertainment at the Colombian restaurant around the corner for free. My point is that a new restaurant should not want this to be a nagging topic of conversation and buzz about them. The food is priced affordably so there is still room to absorb the costs of band fees by adding a few dollars to the menu price. I hope in time the management staff will agree because this is still a very aesthetically pleasing lively place with a lot of potential and worthy of a second trip but perhaps on a day when we don't have to pay the $10 per person fee. read more

Ok to start off the place is beautiful the decorations were on point. As soon as you walk in it's a vibe. We had no issues finding parking and were seated as soon as we came in. The place is BYOB and they offer mocktails to mix your liquor with if you want. They can turn your wine into sangria. We had red Sangria and it was well made and wasn't too sweet like most places. We ordered the ropa vieja empanadas and they were goooood especially with the chimichurri sauce it's accompanied with it was top notch. Comes with 3 full sized empanadas which I liked since most places give you mini bites when it's an app. We also had the Cuban nachos, not much of a pork fan in general but they were awesome and the green avocado sauce was superb also they do not skimp out on the amount of pork they give you with the nachos all portion sizes were good! We also ordered the octopus which I thought was ok. Honestly I was so full after the apps I skipped ordering a main dish, which sucks because I wanted to try more lol, but my friend ordered the Cuban sandwich and he said it was delicious! To end the night although full lol I had the bread pudding for dessert and loved it! The food was legit in this place. Ropa vieja empanadas were great, and the octopus was good, but it was hard when they were put on a stress test during their grand opening. We got the garlic shrimp with yuca in garlic cilantro aioli sauce, and I instantly dreamed about them. Bistec encebollado with morro was well seasoned, and I didn't leave a thing on the plate. I didn't even have a chance to take a pic of the food, but that shouldn't deter you from ordering any of the dishes. The cover band was killing it, too. Either the cook is not Cuban or they underestimate the clientele. What a shame, Cuban cuisine is one of the most desirable in the world, and these people are representing the Cuban cuisine. Extremely disappointed with the ropa vieja, saturated with salt and condiments, the rice was not the regular rice cooked in Cuban cuisine.The tostones served were old, full of grease and reheated. My mother ordered a bistec empanizado and she regretted. The meat was not visible because it was over breaded and on top of that it was burnt. I' m sorry to say but that is not the way Cubans cook. While my 2 hour stay at Grand Cubano (which in the beginning was confusing) was later explained by the owner Tony that the two hours reservation was due to high demand . With all that our two hour stay I must say we had great music and pretty tasty food. Grand Cubano is a BYOB establishment so you can bring your own booze-but if they are to incorporate the liquor it cannot be made as an individual drink, but by the pitcher-good thing we all agreed on mojito. So if you want to spice up one of their mock cocktail flavors bring your own tiny bottle(s) of liquor of your liking and pour it yourself . As it was my understanding soon they will be able to accommodate mixed drinks to their guests. With all that said all of our food was very tasty appetizers as well as the meals served. Oh if your reservation is during entertainment time probably after 7pm and you are not a club member the charge is $10 pp extra, not clear if reservation is still a 2 hour limit. My only negative about this establishment is 2 hours is not enough to enjoy dinner and friends especially if you are celebrating a birthday-in all we felt rushed . read more
