I don't order from the tap often, so I wasn't familiar with the beers. Before making my decision, Server Marcos was kind enough to let me sample it to be sure I I would like it. The IPA was fantastic. It was served chilled with a bit of foam up top. There was a hint of citrus and it had a smooth taste. Unfortunately, free refills are not included with the lunch special. Smash Cheeseburger & Fries: This is a perfect lunch serving portion as it will definitely keep you full until supper time. The double patty was served on a potato roll with special sauce and toppings; it didn't disappoint. The proportion of fries could have been a bit larger, but it they were still tasty. There are several flat screen HDTVs for patrons that enjoy watching sports as they wine and dine. If you enjoy the nightlife or clubbing atmosphere, a silver disco ball is adorned at the center of the restaurant. There is a decently sized outdoor seating area, which includes one semi-circular booth. As a bonus, if you want to purchase any bottled or canned beverages to bring home, there is a liquor store conveniently attached to the pub. $18 for FOUR shrimp. Not even jumbo size. just four shrimp in a takeout container. I genuinely thought part of my order was missing, so I called, and was told that's the actual portion. For an "upscale casual" place, this isn't just overpriced but misleading. The food itself wasn't bad, but the portion completely killed the experience. To be honest, we went to two places which were wayy too crowded for us before walking into Barrel and Brew. And we are so happy we did. Located in a strip mall (what ISN'T in a strip mall anymore), this little gem is a unicorn. Beautifully lit and decorated, it is understated with a warm cozy vibe with a Latin slant. The menu is short and sweet. I can only comment on the dishes we devoured,, but if those are any indication of the rest of the menu, graze away. The Chicharrons were perfect: tender pork belly w an epic fatty crunch on a slick of garlic aioli. Wings. A huge plate (so seldom seen anymore) w Thai Chili glaze. There are other choices. Balanced and meaty. We should've ordered them uber- crispy, but we know for next time. Delightful. The Cheese Quesadilla was oh-so-cheesy and excellent. We split a burger and it was perfectly stacked and rare and juicy. The fries weren't an afterthought. They were crispy and hot and well-seasoned. Get the Parmigiana Roasted Brussels Sprouts. Oomph, so good. Cocktails are thoughtful. Had the bourbon something on the special menu that sung. The list of Ales offer something for everyone. My friend and I stopped by Barrel & Brew on a Friday night for drinks and a bite to eat, and it was such a great find! I ordered a watermelon cocktail and it was absolutely delicious & refreshing. The bartender and the entire staff were incredibly kind, welcoming, and attentive, which made the experience even better. We first ordered the shrimp appetizer, which was perfectly cooked and flavorful. It only came with 5 pieces, which was fine for my friend and I to split. We also split the chicken nachos, which were loaded with toppings and easy for two people to share. We sat at the bar, which was decorated so festively and had a fun, cozy atmosphere. There are also a few tables surrounding the bar if you prefer table seating, though the restaurant itself is on the smaller side. Despite going on a Friday night, there was plenty of parking in the large lot, and we had no trouble finding seats. I went to B&B with my husband for date night. We had gone once before with some friends and had thought it was a decent place. The decor is very pretty and inviting and they have a great outside seating area. Our waiter was friendly and helpful, however, we were one of two tables plus three people at the bar and it still took 40 minutes to get our entrees which may not necessarily be the waiter's fault because he seemed to be on top of it. The menu itself seemed smaller than what I remembered and it only had food items so I wasn't sure what the drink situation was. I ordered a Shirley Temple which came out way too sweet as there was too much grenadine in it, and my husband didn't order a drink. We ordered our appetizers before our entrees which ended up being a good idea since the entrees took so long. We ordered the side of Brussel sprouts as an appetizer which were very tasty and the Guac & Chips which was way too spicy. I like spicy and I can tolerate a good amount of spice so I did ask for it to be spicy as it was an option on the menu, but this was so much spice you couldn't really taste anything else. For our entrees, my husband ordered the burger and added an egg and avocado with a side of yucca fries. His bun was way too small to hold onto anything inside it so it completely fell apart, and the yuca fries were entirely overdone where you couldn't taste the actual yuca. I ordered the churrasco with chimichurri and tostones and sautéed spinach for the sides. The size of the steak was way too small for their most expensive item on them menu, I was still hungry after eating everything; and even though I ordered it medium it was more like well-done. The tostones lacked overall flavor and the spinach was oily. There may be some better items on the menu, but we were rather disappointed so I don't think we will be giving it another shot anytime soon. read more

Had the pleasure of attending a fantastic Reinado Cigar event at Barrel & Brew in New Milford, NJ, hosted by fellow Cuban and Reinado owner, Antonio Lam. The vibe, the cigars, the food... everything hit the mark. The standout cigar for me was Antonio's Reinado Grand Apex, the name says it all. This 91-rated blend (as seen in Cigar Snob) delivered smooth, complex notes of bittersweet chocolate and cedar, with a subtle touch of dark cherry on the finish. One of the most enjoyable smokes I've had in a while. Barrel & Brew really impressed with their Latin-inspired menu. The dishes were flavorful and felt like elevated home cooking. For me, the ceviche was next level!! Fresh, balanced, and absolutely delicious. Owner Albert and his team didn't miss a beat. They went above and beyond. Perfectly presenting and pouring Glenmorangie 12, 14, and 16-year scotches (obviously, the 16-year was our favorite), while making sure everyone had what they needed, from cigars and drinks to perfectly timed apps. We ordered steak and fries cooked medium, but it came out medium-well. By that point, we were so hungry that we didn't even complain. The portions were small for the price. We also noticed an employee who appeared to be a manager or supervisor vaping several times near the bar, which was so unprofessional. Went here on a Saturday afternoon for some drinks and some food. The location was in a strip mall which was a little surprising from the pictures but the inside was nicely decorated and stuck with more of a latin-type vibe. There weren't too many people there, which was fine. We ordered some beers to start and then put in some food. The truffle fries were delicious with the perfect amount of crisp and garlic. Food wise I wish it was better. The yuca fries were okay. Their short rib in the bowl with fries was way better than in my grilled cheese (also the cheese wasn't melted all the way). After looking at some pictures online it looks like it's more lively at night. Honestly, I would have given this place a one-star review based on my brunch experience alone. I tried calling on three different occasions just to get information about their brunch, and no one seemed to know what was going on. Every time, I was told to call back when the supervisor was there, just to get basic details about reserving a brunch. It was frustrating and unorganized. The only reason I'm giving it three stars is because DJ Nice was there, and the music was absolutely great. I had an amazing time dancing with my girlfriends all night. The service was good, but the food was absolutely horrible. None of us enjoyed our brunch, and for the price we paid, it was definitely not worth it. I have been going shopping in the plaza for years and somehow never noticed Barrel & Brew. They are a great spot to grab a drink, dinner, or just to unwind after a long day at work. They have a fantastic Happy Hour deal during the week of $8 apps and $5 select drinks. And also often have a ladies night with discounted drinks as well. Our bartender made me a coconut mojito which was out of this world. I usually stray away because some coconut liquors don't taste great. But wow this tasted like a piña colada amazing. The appetizer potions during Happy Hour are a Great bargain. We ordered wings, loaded nachos, and short rib sliders. Everything was flavorful, fresh ingredient, and beyond filling. Disappointing. My kid was there a few weeks back, said it was great food. HAD to try the plantain cups with shrimp, we also ordered with beef, and the nachos, and coconut shrimp. Kid said the coconut shrimp were served without tails, how exciting; today they had tails, so must have purchased from a different restaurant supply. They were ok---frozen and either deep fried or air fried - nothing to write home about - I can buy them at ShopRite and cook them myself cheaper. The shrimp plantain cups kid says were different last time - last time served with some cilantro atop and a vinaigrette of some sort; this time, served with a mayo aioli squirt. Kid said the shrimp also tasted different last time, better, spiced, as today's tasted bland and perhaps just grilled. I'll never know. I found it to be "meh" and not exciting. Different cook in the kitchen? Let's talk about the beef plantain cups - they were gross. Kid said it looked like some was raw beef - it did. I thought it was red spice - I tasted; it tasted like raw beef. Sent it back asking it be put under the broiler. When it was returned, it could have been a brand new batch, unsure, but it looked unappetizing and red and we didn't want to take the chance. I never send food back; it was nice of the waitress to remove it from the bill. The nachos were...just ok. Assembled, not a cooked dish. I was not impressed. $60 w/tip, no drinks, for nachos, coconut shrimp and plantain cups? If it were amazing, different story - this was just an expensive disappointment. Seems to me the food is restaurant service frozen for frying or air frying, and/or assembled. Nothing to go out of your way for. Perhaps it's all about the drinks? IDK. Barrel & Brew is not what you would expect by the name nor location. At first you think it would serve pub food but no señor! It's delicious Latin food! Portions were not large but certainly enough. Something to keep in mind if you want to share. Cocktails were good yet limited menu with majority of the cocktails with the same main spirit and garnish. Decor is industrial but not cold. The menu display on the Televisions was odd and sort of cheapens the ambiance of the nice coffered ceiling and rich warm woods. There was an Edison bulb out over the bar which made me wonder about attention to detail. A great feature to this restaurant is that they have special nights with live entertainment and DJ. As for the service, opportunity is in our initial server which felt a bit cold and not engaged. However this was quickly recovered by the other team members serving us. My favorite bar is a hidden gem! As someone else mentioned, once inside you don't feel like you are in New Jersey, but rather New York! They have great music, guest DJ's and events every weekend. Nice unique handcrafted cocktails, great food as well! I came here for NYE and it was nice to be able to be somewhere where it wasn't overly crowded but also not empty either. This looks like an NYC hot spot with the cool lighting, great DJ music (not too loud), fantastic cocktails and food, and yet really reasonably priced! Loved: - pumpkin margarita was amazing! - bowl with chicken, veggies, plantains, rice, and lemon dressing was loaded with flavor! I loved this dish so much!! - guava cheesecake- so delicious!
