After exploring a historic house in nearby Alpine, this longstanding establishment on Route 9 has been on my radar, and we decided on lunch today. Established in 1969 on the site of the former Bicycle Club, Giovanni's Bicycle Club features irresistible flavors of Italian cuisine from family recipes using the finest ingredients. The reservation was easily made via OpenTable but was not necessary on a Sunday. Upon entering this two-story building, my partner and I were greeted by the host, and a few patrons were enjoying their meal on two enclosed outside patio decks with fans in the summer, so we joined them. The windows could be raised for that inclement weather, and heaters turned on when needed. They do have a main dining room, with the front bar much fancier. A few small bicycle artifacts make the place memorable and unique. We decided on the Philly Cheesesteak and Grilled Chicken Cobb Salad. Complimentary bread with dipping oil started our meal. The food was tasty with a healthy portion. The price was a bit pricey. The service was friendly; our server was Buket. We could recommend this place. read more

Came here yesterday because I was taking a class in the area and it really impressed me, including my great waitress! Food: I ordered some strawberry pancakes with some sweet mascarpone cheese because it reminded me of a meal I had in Chicago. The flavor blew my mind, I didn't even need any syrup. The waitress also gave me some garlic knots as a "free bread" and it might be some of the best I have ever had. Aesthetic; really nice looking place inside with a comfortable dance floor near the bar. Bar is nice, well stocked. Service: I can't begin to say how sweet Alexa was the entire time. As a lifelong Bergen county resident, I've known this restaurant for ever. I used to go with my parents as a kid but sort of forgot about it. We we ordered take out a few times during Covid just to support the place and the food was very good (plus they gave you a free pizza if you ordered dinner for adults) After Covid we've been back regularly and can say I've been so happy there. The food is terrific, the service is great and the location and parking are convenient. The front patio is terrific on a nice spring or fall day and the two side sun rooms are beautifully decorated. read more

Absolute WORST bolognese I have ever eaten in my entire life! That wasn't bolognese. That was a bowl of overcooked rigatoni pasta, ground meat and more marinara than I know what to do with. Had no flavor, fell heavy. Just not good at all. The local pizzeria makes a better bolognese and that's not saying much. Their garlic knots also were flat. Normally they're super warm fresh out the oven, soft and lots of flavor. These were stale, hard and flavorless. Lately Giovanni has been a REAL miss. Their prices go up, they're obviously cutting corners in making their food and it's starting to show. Either reduce your prices to match the less than sub par food or improve the quality to match the pricing. can't have it both ways and succeed. Proof is in the pudding. Let's start with the positives: the food was decent. I had the eggplant rollatini appetizer and my date had a salad. We both enjoyed our choices. Also the parking was great. The service? What service? The bartender made cameos behind the bar at random intervals. Most of the time, she was nowhere to be found. The bar was littered with empty glasses that sat there for the duration. I had to hunt her down for the check. I also didn't care for the location of the men's bathroom; literally right next to the bar. Was visiting a friend who decided to take me here. Honestly, I was underwhelmed and prices I felt were ridiculously high. We actually didn't have too much for dinner. I started off with a glass of rosé. I drink the Jean-Luc Colombo at home and the bottle itself is no more than $12 but each glass was $14 for a very small pour. My friends had the penne vodka and honestly what can you really do to that? It was decent. I had the Mayan sun salad with blackened salmon. For $29 it was at best mediocre and you didn't even get a full piece of salmon; it was really just salmon bites. I dine out a lot and live in the Princeton New Jersey area and the Prices of this restaurant were so much more than a delicious meal that you can get where I live. Went on a quiet, Sunday afternoon, prior to a show at the BPAC. It was a Very Good choice! We sat in the back where it was warm, cozy and quiet. Unlike many other restaurants, we were able to enjoy quiet conversation. Our waiter was a delight. He was helpful and attentive. We ordered: Fried Calamari, Honey Mustard Salmon, Chicken Cacciatore, Chicken Giovanni and Tartufo for dessert. ALL very delicious and plentiful. Warm and breezy weather calls for outdoor dining! If you dine here you have to sit on their patio! I also highly recommend the spicy margarita! For our appetizer we had the fried calamari and we shared the margarita and prosciutto pizza. I wasn't a huge fan of the fried calamari because of the prominent fishy taste, but many fish lovers would like it. The pizzas were also a bit bland and missed flavors. I've been here a few times now. The food and drinks are excellent! Their new brunch menu is expansive and I enjoy their Italian dishes. The service is hit or miss. I'm pretty sure I was served an entirely different cocktail from what I ordered the last time I had dinner here. I had also ordered a side for brunch and it never came. By the time a server came back around, we were pretty much finished our meal. Not sure if it's an issue with the toast devices the servers are using or what. read more

I took a risk and ordered the orange tricyle because the Chinola Passionfruit sounded really good and it was so delicious I ordered a second. My dinner was so good I took a little home for lunch the next day. Chicken Scarpariello With lemon, garlic, white wine, and cherry peppers - I normally don't order chicken but this just sounded so good & it was. It was just as delicious the next day. I came here for brunch and needless to say that this place didn't disappoint. Their brunch menu was delicious. I had the waffles and the pancakes and both foods were delicious to try. Staff recommendations were also key as I wasn't sure what to get off the menu, so I thank them for their kind service. The weather was also nice on the day I came for brunch so I sat outdoors. However it didn't matter if I was indoors or outdoors as the ambience for this place was amazing. Looking forward to coming back here, but next time it will be for dinner. read more

I randomly decided to order takeout from them on Saturday night and wow! what amazing service! I called the restaurant at 9 PM because Google said the restaurant was open until 10 PM. The kitchen closed at 9 but the host said he'll ask if the kitchen would take my order... it was an agonizing 30 second wait lol... AND SCORE! The kitchen said they'd take my order! My order: -Baby Lamp Chop appetizer: 2 baby lamp chops with a side salad. The lamb chops cooled down a bit by the time we got home but it was surprisingly still very tender. -Linguini Nera Arabiata: absolutely delicious! The shrimp were big & plump, ample amount of lobster, and a huge portion of mussels. I had this before when I dined it and it did not disappoint even as take out. The pasta was still steaming hot when I got it home. -Alla Vodka Personal Pizza: this normally comes with grilled chicken as a topping but I asked for breaded chicken substitute and it was indeed a great choice! The personal size has 6 pieces and is perfect to share. The reason for 5 stars is (1) the kitchen was technically closed but they still took my order late on a Saturday night and (2) they included 2 mini cannolis for dessert AND A WHOLE CONTAINER OF GARLIC KNOTS at no charge! I did not ask for them; it was such a nice gesture that I appreciated especially during a difficult time with covid. This place has been around a long time so I thought it was about time I tried it. I ordered the Bronzino. It was properly cooked but the sauce was bland. It came with 4 string beans, 2 carrots & a small half of a potato. Really would have liked more veggies. The salad that came with the meal was very fresh & crisp, with carrots & red onion. My guest ordered the pappardelle bolognese. It was good but not great. Not much meat, mainly sauce. Pasta a little over cooked. Had champagne & a glass of red wine- both were divine. Place was quiet. Was an early Sunday evening. Music starts at 7 with a DJ. Nice area for dancing too. Will have to come for music sometime. Hard to find places for dancing so looking forward to another visit. read more

I got the shrimp delight pizza which was a bit dry and very oily. I expect more shrimp for something called a shrimp delight haha. I also got the gnocchi which was very inconsistent in size and very thick. We also tried the burrata which I think was decent if you enjoy burrata. The best thing I ate was their garlic bread they serve as you get seated. It was so good I finished the whole basket and took my main dishes to go. Came here back in June to celebrate Father's Day with my family. The restaurant was pretty empty since we came in early for lunch but we were tucked away in the back corner anyway. We waited for a while before we were finally greeted by our server. After waiting for a while to get our drinks, we grouped everything together because we didn't know when we would see her again. She started by bringing out Garlic Knots for the table and we ordered Fried Zucchini and Fried Calamari as the appetizer. The Calamari was a good size for our group but there was such a small portion of the Zucchini. We enjoyed both the appetizers. There was a limited menu that day and I asked if I could order the Sweet Red Pepper Linguini because I was not interested in the items listed on the limited menu. She had warned me that my dish would take longer and I didn't mind waiting while everyone else got their meals first. I did not expect everyone else's dishes to take as long, but they all came out at the same time as mine even though they had ordered from the limited menu. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy my entrée. They drowned the dish in the cream sauce and the peppers and mushrooms weren't cooked enough. While we were waiting for the entrées to come out, we asked our server if we could get a refill on the Garlic Knots and she stated that they had run out for the day. I found that very strange since it was only lunch and there was the rest of the day to go. So I asked her colleague the same question and he immediately brought out Garlic Knots. I found that to be something odd to lie about. Unfortunately, we did not enjoy our experience here as much as we thought we would and will probably not be coming back. read more

Very reliable delivery and dine-in option for your meat and potatoes type of Italian + other favorites. They have a fairly large menu of all the items you come to expect at an Italian style restaurant along with other fare such as some pretty gigantic portions of buffalo wings etc. I guess it's kind of a mix of a bar and Italian vibe. The flavor of the food is great. The chicken marsala has a killer sauce that requires plentiful bread dipping. Their garlic knots are delicious and it pairs well with their flavorful olive oil. The aforementioned buffalo wings were good and the portions were huge. The shrimp scampi also had plenty of good flavor, albeit the portions weren't nearly as huge as the chicken marsala etc. For dine-in, the service is friendly and there is a spacious porch area that sits a decent number of people. Their delivery service is fairly good with most deliveries that arrive roughly around their estimated times. The food here is consistent and that's a great part of their appeal. Nothing super fancy, just good execution of some staple dishes that get the job done. read more

If you must eat, stick to what is commonly called pub food. Do not venture beyond pasta selections on the menu or you will be thoroughly disappointed. Last Friday my guest (who rarely agrees with me) broke this central rule and ordered Sea Bass. She thought the fish may have been past expiration date. *Happy hour review* Cheap prices during happy hour. They get a good crowd going with the different companies in the area. Greeted by Sue right away and got a couple beers. Beer offering isn't great with Coors, Peroni, Blue Moon, Stella, Sierra Nevada and Schofferhofer Grapefruit. But at $4 a pop can't complain. Wine and cocktail specials also available. The mussels giovanni are cooked in a delicious sauce. They give you bread to sop it all up or you can use your pizza crust. They also pass around free margherita in the bar area during HH. Overall, food is good. Not the best place to catch any games since the TVs are very small in the bar area. Overall, a reasonably priced convenient happy hour for the area. We had a mini-family reunion here on a Saturday afternoon. It was a great experience from top to bottom: the food was delicious across all courses (appetizers, mains, salads and dessert), the cocktails were well made, the service was excellent, and our seating on the enclosed patio was comfortable. If I have a gripe, it was the prices being a little on the high side for a lunch but this was definitely a "you get what you pay for" experience. I would absolutely recommend the Bicycle Club and plan on eating here again the next time I'm in northern New Jersey. read more

Tried this place for the first time after driving by it for months on my way to work. I dined with a larger group (8) so we did make a reservation even though we were coming from an event and it was late, closer to 9PM, the place was still half full and lively so glad we had a table secured. Especially because we wanted to sit outside on the covered porch. The menu here is huge! There's tons of options and variety which makes it a great place for anyone because there's a guarantee most will find at least one thing they're into on this menu no matter how picky the eater. It ranges from typical bar style food like Buffalo wings and fried calamari to Italian dishes like veal saltimboca and chicken parm. There's also pizza available and a long list of specialty pies to select from in various sizes. Aside from the expansive menu, onto the actual taste, the food was good. I would say very solid meals. Everyone at my table was happy and the portions were pretty large so we all took home goody bags. The staff was friendly and attentive as well so overall it was a very positive experience. Definitely a go to place for a good reliable meal especially with larger groups where menu variety is key! Would also be good for company happy hours or gatherings since there's large entertainment spaces on the 3rd floor and a large wrap around bar. There's parking available on site. read more

We've been here for Sunday lunch on two occasions. It usually is pretty empty when we get there. Service is very upbeat and friendly. The lunch menu and specials menu is very extensive and wallet friendly. Make sure to look over the specials first as they have similar stuff as their regular menu. I would call it Italian American cuisine - pizza, heros, pasta, salads, etc. Garlic knots and bread are a complimentary app with marinara sauce. I get the chicken francese. My wife and I have become regulars at the Bike only recently after living in the EC area for years. We enjoy the diversity of the menu, warm vibe and decent food. However, at times, especially last night, we both left after having dinner somewhat exhausted... Our servers either didn't listen, couldn't remember, didn't care or perhaps had a language barrier of very simple (and repeated) requests we had. Nothing big mind you....all little things. Red pepper flakes with my entree? Serve ricotta cheese with my order of meatballs? Order of broccoli rabe (when they brought out sautéed broccoli after 15 minute wait)? There was more too. Yes, it was a busy Saturday evening but the restaurant was not terribly crowded and the place seemed well staffed. The several waiters we encountered last night were young and seemed inexperienced yet displayed a somewhat eagerness to please and to accommodate patrons. This Bergen area is so competitive with restaurants and where folks can spend their time and dining $ to eat out. Came here cause I heard about the lobster special deal with my friend and of course since there were three of us, we decided to partake in the happy hour options as well! Honestly, the lobster was fresh, succulent and definitely worth it! Other happy hour items were well priced, also equally yummy and just your typical expected fare for this Italian restaurant. When we went there was an opera signing that was taking place and it was honestly very very nice and only made our abience even better. We ordered mussels, pasta, fried mozzarella, fried zucchini, and calamari as sides to our lobsters (individual). So we ordered a ton of food! Thinking that it was happy hour prices, maybe the portions would be smaller but it was not!! It was regular sized and amazing! I dined here last night ... we sat at the bar ,a dj was music playing and there were disco lights everywhere. My man and I drink beer , there's nothing more annoying than a bartender who can't draft a proper beer and leaves a sip or two out of the glass... then our pizza arrived and it was just acceptable, i've honestly never seen prosciutto look so poorly!
