Judi and I met Carole here for lunch in May '08 and I'm very glad we did!
It started well with an excellent Cabernet Shiraz for me and a lovely dry Sauvignon Blanc for the girls.. Much encouraged, we tottered over to look at the menu.
BIG PROBLEM! Very hard to choose between wonderful-sounding dishes!
In the end, I plumped for oysters followed by roast beef and Yorkshire pudding.
Sorry if that sounds mundane - let me expand a little!
The oysters were, I will swear, fresh from the sea a couple of minutes ago! Beautifully presented on a bed of ice and absolutely wonderful!
Roast beef and.NO! A beautiful thich pavé of ribeye - pink and tender as butter - served on a nest of vegetables with roast potatoes and an enormous, light, fluffy, puffy Yorkshire pudding. I won't insult the sauce by calling it a mere gravy either!
Thereafter, it would have been rude not to try the warm chocolate mousse, now wouldn't it? What a delight!
Judi and Carole declared that the belly of pork they had chosen was 'nearly as good as Rolf's'.
Rolf deserves a mention as a wonderful chef a dear friend and Carole's much loved an missed husband. He knew a thing or two about food and wine!
