(From November 2025) I can't remember how I found this but as I'm driving in Charlotte, my dad and I stopped here to check it out. This is one of the most beautiful parks I've had the pleasure of visiting. There are beautiful views, playgrounds and lawn space for children's play, plenty of parking, trails for walking/bike riding, several bridges, and large trees to compliment the fields. The park is well-kept as everyone here ensures cleanliness and top maintenance. As my dad and I sat down on the bench and soaked in our surroundings, we observed a plethora of activity which included some people flying drones, kids competing in the playground's obstacle course, elderly folks walking, dogs running amok, people racing toy cars, and a few people cycling. The positive energy and vibes were radiant. I'm glad we stopped by here. Definitely worth a visit in Charlotte! read more

We were in Charlotte for a concert on a Saturday night and looking for something to do on a Sunday morning (when lots of places are closed). We thought this park looked pretty cool, so we drove over, parked on the road and walked around. It was a nice day and lots of other people were out. We walked around the lake and checked out some of the features like bridges, streams, bridges and an amphitheatre. There was also a playground nearby. This is by far my favorite park in Charlotte! I've been coming here for year and years and it never disappoints. This trip a friend and I had a really fun picnic and the park was bustling!! I do wish there was more parking, and there is already a good amount but it's still not enough for all of the folks always coming out. I was lucky to snag a spot from someone leaving, but it's always hard to find somewhere especially on a busy beautiful spring day. The park was so busy and yet so peaceful. There was an entire wedding taking place in the amphitheater, we say a couple get engaged and a gender reveal! It's a bot, btw!!! This was such a cool day in the park. We sat out there for hours catching up and taking in all the sights. It's so so beautiful here. It's a huge park so there is really plenty of space to setup a picnic and relax for hours without being disturbed. It's also fun to people watch. I really love this place, it's special. read more

We visited this park twice during our 4-day stay in Charlotte with our toddler and my husband. We enjoyed the scenic trails, the diverse crowd, the pond with ducks, and the NFL Play 60 Challenge Course. The playground does have a sign indicating it's designed for children ages 5 and up. While there wasn't a designated area for younger kids, we noticed that many families still allowed their little ones to play there. read more

Freedom Park is a beautiful, free park in Charlotte. I typically visit Festival In The Park annually as a volunteer. In addition, I have attended a number of the free jazz concerns they have had in the past. I hope they return in 2025! The walking paths and scenery are tranquil, with water features. read more

I love that they offer pickle ball, though I was too scared to try it this time. Instead, I enjoyed running my 6 miles on their beautiful, well-maintained trails. The park is packed with amenities--basketball courts, picturesque spots for taking photos, playgrounds for the kids, and so much more. The variety of activities available makes it a perfect spot for families, fitness enthusiasts, and anyone looking to enjoy the outdoors. Visiting family in Charlotte this weekend and opted to come here with our little ones. The pond and walking trails are absolutely beautiful and so nice to walk around. Lots of families were out and about which also made this very inviting. Aside from walking trails, there are also a couple different playground areas with age-specific activities in each one. This 98 acre expansive park located in Charlotte NC, offers something for everyone. The park has paved trails, tennis and volleyball courts, sport and athletic fields, picnic areas, restrooms, a steam locomotive, bike rentals and playground equipment. All centered around a lake with nice views. We took a nice nature walk around the pond and throughout the park. At the end of World War 2, Freedom Park was built to honor veterans and was deeded to the City of Charlotte. It is a place for inclusivity, tolerance of diversity, trust and transparency. They offer free film and musical performances in the summer. Adjacent to the park is the Charlotte Nature museum. read more

This is a beautiful and spacious park. A beautiful pond with a fountain in the center. Lots of trails to take. So much to see. A great place for a picnic, a run or walk. Saw lots of doggies with their owners. A beautiful amphitheater surrounded by the back of the pond. A cute bridge connects it back to the main trail. Definitely recommend! I believe the first time I visited this park was in 1969. It was much different then. You could climb on the train, there was a jet fighter aircraft and a tank. The old steam-powered train is still there but gone are the jet & tank. I recall visiting for Festival In The Park in 1981 which was very entertaining. I believe it was the Spongetones who were the Saturday headliners. I returned today 9/12/23 because the park is part of the Little Sugar Creek Greenway bike trail. It was connected to the Tylola extension and Brandywine Rd in July. The Freedom Park to Morehead Street portion remains under construction. I was very happy to learn the City has engaged the Goose Busters to manage the flocking Canadian Geese! read more

I was not able to see all that this park has to offer but from what I was able to witness this place has everything. From a great place for portraiture, activities for the kids, a place to have a cookout and/or even a FAMILY REUNION, there a mini amphitheater and a walk/run trail and a nature preserve. Definitely one of the better parks in Charlotte. I do enjoy how the greenway runs through here so if you want to go on a run you totally can! There is also a nice loop around a pond that is probably about a half a mile. Ample opportunities for seating in benches. There is a playground for kiddos as well. This place is great to take out of town guests, kids, or dogs.. I have taken all of the above and everyone always enjoys! read more

So big and so many activities for those of all ages! We packed a picnic and spent a good 4 hours there with our 9 year old and 2 year old.

I am a huge fan of this park! There are a zillion activities to do here. To name a few... -A path for you to walk/run/bike/skateboard/etc. -Trails, bridges, etc. to explore -A museum -River/forest area -Open fields & sandy areas for sports -Playgrounds -Picnic tables/bbq areas -Amphitheater for concerts In addition, there are lots of benches and places to read, sunbathe, picnic, exercise, and more. The park is gorgeous and there are photo ops throughout the place. There are also lots of places to hold big events. It is also very pet friendly! Parking is available at both ends of the park; summertime is more crowded, but you should still be able to find a spot just fine. read more

Freedom Park is one of my favorite places in the Queen City. It holds a special place in my heart for all the fond memories I have had there throughout the years. I have hosted several park parties and even rented out the Pavilion for my graduation party years ago. The park is large. There is a a huge lake to walk around, several shelters and a pavilion to rent for picnics and events, soccer, baseball and basketball fields and a large playground for kids. There is an old train car located in the playground that has been there since my childhood. The park has several entrances. It connects the Greenway and has the Nature Museum located near it. Once a year there is Festival in the Park that focuses on family and arts. There are numerous venders, performances, carnival rides and tons of arts. This is one of my favorite events in the city. It is normally a 3 day festival during the month of September throughout the whole park. Dogs aren't allowed and parking is very scarce. [Coronavirus review] A large urban park with some predictable restrictions, including tape over the playground and cops at the entrance. The centerpiece lake isn't exactly natural, but the area is pretty, well-manicured, and has plenty of benches, tables, and a stage on the water. Neat little park near Clt's South End neighborhood. It's basically a big paved/sidewalk loop around a large water feature w/fountains & a brick bridge reminiscent of something u might find hidden in Central Park, complete w/mallards swimming underneath and a weeping willow w/a bench underneath to sit and take in the cyclists, walkers, joggers, and nature. There is a dedicated parking lot w/limited space and then street parking on various sides. They had yoga complete w/flute music & gongs the Saturday morning I came and the little amphitheater where it was taking place was full. There is also a neat little wooden suspension bridge that connects to the Little Sugar Creek Greenway. read more

This is a great location for formal photos! We took our engagement photos here and the scenery was perfect with lots of options. While the park gets busy, it was still easy to get shots without people in the background and capture the landscape. The parking lot is small but my understanding is there are multiple lots in the area to park in so this shouldn't be a concern. It is clean and well maintained. read more

Freedom park is an awesome way to spend a Saturday or Sunday. There is a beautiful pond that you can walk around with beautiful bridges. There are multiple play places for kids. Freedom Park also has a place for softball, baseball, basketball, soccer, and so much more. The only downside to freedom Park is that parking can sometimes be hard to come by when it's really nice outside. I also noticed that the play places are usually really full as well. I think it would be awesome if they could expand freedom Park to be a little bit larger. read more

Came to this park cause the first time I went, it was snowing and cloudy. But I came the second time and it was a sunny and clear day! I'm glad I came for the second time cause I didn't realize how big this park was. When I used Google Maps and came here the second time, it took me a different parking lot and realized I was at the other side of the park, which was great! At first, I was disappointed that the park was small and didn't understand why this small park had high reviews but there's definitely a lot to do, such as running, walking, play sports and more! It's definitely a nice place to walk or run cause they have some long trails. If you want a nice park to check out, I'd recommend this park since I went twice. And parking is pretty easy and open too when I went during weekend afternoon or late afternoon. But do know the park closes when it gets dark! read more

LOVE coming here ! This is the perfect place to walk, jog, bring the family , let the kids play etc! Although this park is located in a residential neighborhood, there is plenty of parking on the street and within the park itself. This park is also pretty big, as there are underground (but above ground) tunnels that lead to the street but is pretty cool to see during the day time. I've walked/ jogged this park and back and logged in at least 5 miles! There are also events that they have on the stage weather permitting and you will also see people throughout the park just hanging out sitting on the benches or taking a stroll. The park is clean, easy to get to and pretty big. I would highly recommend! read more

Huge. Really, really huge! I had not seen the park before as it's not really where I tend to wander in Charlotte but today was the day. 98 acres (about a tenth the size of New York's Central Park) and is complete with baseball fields, batting cages, bandshell, playgrounds, walking trails, tennis courts and shelters with grills. Connected to the Little Sugar Creek Greenway, you can get here by car or by bicycle or just walk. I was here on a clear and sunny day. It was lovely. I look forward to returning! read more

Some in Charlotte might argue this to be the best park in town. Conveniently located a short drive or even a bike ride from uptown. You can access the park using the greenway for the safest option, although if you're not opposed to riding on roads or sidewalks, those can also get you here relatively easily. This super spacious park features a central pond which you can almost always see ducks or geese hanging out in. There is a bridge over a portion and a fountain in the middle. A paved path goes around the full perimeter of the park. There are fields for every popular sport: soccer, baseball, tennis, volleyball and more. A massive train engine for the kids to play on sits next to the large playground complex. I hear parking can be rough, especially on event days and notably during the Festival in the Park which takes place here annually. When it rains the path washes over with mud in a few places too, so don't come here with your nice shoes after a rain. The park also has a covered stage at the center and hill for taking your place to watch the show. If you're trying to social distance in the COVID-19 era, there's plenty of space to do so here. Or, when things get back to normal, undoubtedly you can find a little peace in the sun on the beautiful lawn. Note that, one way or the other, this park is popular and seems to always have lots of visitors. read more
