We enjoyed walking around this small park in uptown Charlotte. There is parking available on the street. Yes, you do have to pay for it. The art in the park is lovely. I loved the sculpture. The water feature was such a wonderful surprise! It is gorgeous. I am sure in warmer weather it is even more splendid. This park had stairs and ramps making it easily accessible for all. The space is ample and prime real estate for the city, but the experience can be a bit lackluster. Outside of closed ice cream shops and plants that are not as cared for as they should be, it's nothing that would be worth making a special trip to see (yet). I'm sure there are some long term plans to spruce up the space, but for now it's just a place to walk your dog and see the waterfalls as a passerby. read more

Nate and I walked through this park while stranded in Charlotte due to some flights affected by weather. I'm glad we chose to wander through, because it was really beautiful. The flowers were blooming and it was a wonderful sunny day. There's a big fountain, a shiny sculpture, and we enjoyed a musician who brought his whole drum kit to the park. The views are great - you can see lots of tall buildings and those cherry blossoms were so pretty. If I lived in this area, I'd try to visit this park all the time. I think it would be a great spot to hang out, relax, and get some sunshine! It seems to be pretty centrally located with lots around. read more

The park offers plenty of space to enjoy, with a large grassy area conveniently located next to the Knights Stadium. It's an ideal spot for a picnic while watching people play with their dogs or cheering on the game from the sidelines. The park is beautifully landscaped with lovely flowers and gardens throughout. Kids especially enjoy the waterfall adorned with colorful lights as they run around and play. It's a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of nearby restaurants, providing a peaceful city retreat. This is a very clean and modern park in the downtown of Charlotte. I especially liked the very nice looking waterfall section in the middle of it. However, being on the smaller side, it is a bit of a boring park with no activities, no playground and no sports facilities to partake in. Instead, it is basically made up of two large open spaces that are just for sitting around or walking your dog. read more

Bottom Line: A nice city park that has wide appeal. Romare Bearden Park is over five acres of green space in Charlotte's Uptown area. As a gardener I really enjoyed walking through this park in March and again in May. In March it was cold and the park was mostly abandoned except a few dog walkers but I still saw lots of beauty in the space, the layout and the early bloomers like hellebores. On a warm day in May Romare Bearden was hopping! There were families with their toddlers meandering about, some lovely ladies getting Prom photos, some teenage guys hanging with Mary Jane, joggers passing through and of course dog walkers. Instead of being one large sprawling space the park is broken up into various rooms per se which makes exploration fun. The waterfall area seems very popular but I was mesmerized by some enormous hostas (Empress Wu perhaps?) and various other perennials making their debut for the season. read more

The best little city park in Uptown. After getting coffee and going on a little exploration around town I could not, for the life of me, find my car. Somehow I stumbled upon this adorable park and it was the greatest accidental happening of my day. It has the best views of the city (that I could find), it's well kept, has a beautiful fountain, garden, statues, and safe environment. During the holidays they decorate the park all festive, they've done 9/11 remembrance exhibits, live music in the park, market events and so on. It's a beautiful area to walk your dogs though there are no closed in regions for them to run off leash. Though there were a few homeless around the area I would not call it an unsafe area and would even say it's nice spot for a family picnic. This park is my favorite view of the city thus far. If I worked in the area I would come eat lunch here everyday just to see the pups and enjoy the view. It's free entry with tons of cheap street parking nearby. Check it out. read more

During the summer, there are also a ton of festivals and concerts that are held here. Has a water fall/fountain area. In the summer, parents bring their kids here to play in the water and have a blast! At times, also an ice cream vendor located in the booth during the summer. Sundays are typically our walk in the park days, and this is definitely our go-to park. Our family loves to walk around uptown when we just want to get out of the house, which usually always leads us to this park. We love it as it has the waterfall wall where during the summer the kids will usually run in there to splash around. There is a little upper level behind the waterfall where there is a smaller open field and a gazebo type space with tables and chairs. A lot of people use that area to sit and eat if they don't want to sit in the grass, especially during lunchtime during the week. The lower level has the big open field where lots of people will use that space and picnic. Animals are welcomed, so a lot of dogs are seen on leashes at this park. During the nice spring and cool weather, this is a HIT! Simple free activity to do and enjoy the outside weather. It's located beside the Baseball stadium, so if you're going to one of the knights game, you can always grab a quick lunch or dinner beforehand and enjoy it at the park before you attend a game Definitely a go-to activity for our family. Obviously, parking is always a hassle unless you snag a side street parking. If not, you may have to park in a parking lot or deck and just walk to the park. read more

Wow what an unexpected pleasant surprise Romare Bearden Park turned out to be. I was in Charlotte visiting and exploring for the weekend and randomly came across this park! I was actually going to the Charlotte Knights Minor League Baseball game at BB&T Stadium across the street and while waiting for the doors to open to go inside for the game, I noticed how pretty the skyline of Charlotte was from this area. That's what won me over about Romare Bearden. The views of the skyscrapers and towers of Charlotte from here were beautiful! I never knew or researched prior to visiting that Charlotte had any type of skyline worthwhile of observing. Yeah....so from this park, situated right at the edge of the outer limits of Charlotte, the scenery and setting is wonderful. Besides having grass and lots of room to sit down and have a picnic, Romare Bearden also has fountains and plenty of area to walk around. I happened to be here in late afternoon last month and the sun glistening against the buildings made for a serene backdrop. Although I didn't have a blanket to lay down on the grass, I still sat and appreciated the ambiance. If anyone cares to lounge, you can certainly take a nap it's that peaceful. There weren't too many people hanging out for a springtime Saturday. I was genuinely impressed with the park. If I weren't heading to the baseball game, I could have stayed longer it was that soothing! Interestingly, there was a wedding taking place while I was there and a portion of the park was blocked off for wedding pictures and the ceremony. So you can understand how charming this place is if weddings are being held here. Yeah, Romare Bearden Park was one of the many great highlights I had while visiting Charlotte. It was certainly a fantastic revelation finding this place and soaking up the views all the while grabbing some really photogenic pictures. There's plenty of open space for one person, family or an entire group to enjoy. You are also in close walking distance to BB&T baseball park and there is plenty of parking spaces available. A very good spot to soak some sun and enjoy picnic with family or just go on a 1st date. We went for some photoshoot to get some of the charlotte skyline backdrop which was amazing. The park is good to enjoy some cherry blossom during spring. Its near to BOA stadium, also the french quarters are near by for lunch or dine in. They also have artificial waterfalls which is a perfect place to get some bridal shoots or maternity shoot. They donot require any permit at this time for photoshoots. I found this place perfect for photoshoots but lots of skaters on the park so hope for their cooperation lol. A small park in uptown Charlotte adjacent to the knights ballpark. It's a well groomed and manicured Park where you could comfortably grab a blanket and hang out on the green lawns. There are walkways that take you from end to end. Towards the middle of the park you will hear and find the calming sounds of the waterfall that runs year round. While a small park and not a park that has a playground or basketball court it is a wonderful 5 acre park in the city where the public can just hang out and relax out in the southern sun. What an amazing park in Uptown Charlotte. Big flat grassy areas, a huge fountain, lots of trees and shade, super awesome view of the Charlotte skyline. I've been here and seen yoga and fit classes going on, I've seen kids throwing frisbees and dogs playing fetch. It's a big grassy space and it's absolutely lovely! The park is named after Romare Bearden, an artist who was born nearby and then moved to New York where he spent most of his adult life. All sorts of art, from painting to jazz. Was here for their Fit in 15 exercise class Saturday Morning. Only two more weeks before they finish the this program which is run by Mecklenburg Co. Hope they have these programs in 2016. The Tabata instructor was so gracious to conduct the Rise and Flow Yoga class, after there was no instructor available when he finished his class earlier. Hope these class will continue till the end of the year since it is much cooler now and the weather is not so hot and humid. This park is clean and well maintained. Lots of other events happening here throughout the week that I will definitely check out. Great opportunity to take photographs of the City of Charlotte. Perfect backdrop. read more

Little park right smack in the middle if the action uptown. Gorgeous views of the BoA tower and at night is the time to go when it is al lit up and the uptown skyline glitters. Lots of people walking and playing w-their dogs, and laying on the grass. Even at night, the park felt very safe, as did that part of uptown. This is a relatively new park (a bit is still under construction and the grass is still establishing itself). Fairly large open space with lots of grass. Currently the grass is roped off and looks pretty new so once that is over with then it will be nice to sit on. There is a waterfall type fountain which is open for people to walk through. A bit chilly for it in the fall but I predict it will be a hit in the summertime. It's across the street from the baseball park so it's possible to grab some food and eat before a game if you can get a spot. There is a section at the opposite end of the park with tables and a concession kiosk. Not sure what they will be selling but it looks like a good place to sit and people watch. The day I was there had lots of people wandering and sitting around chilling out. Give this newer park a try. read more

It's very well maintained and I have never felt unsafe there. There is a ton of restaurants that are all walkable to and from this park. There is a cool water feature wall with LED lights there and has a great view of the Charlotte skyline for some great photos. Highly recommend if you're in Uptown. read more

So we love this park, for the most part. It was so nice to come back to the hotel, walk over to it, and just relax. It was nice to see al the families and couples out all over. The park for the most part was clean. It had areas to take plenty of photos at. It is dimly lit by the ballpark led tv which is nice. What I will recommend is stay away from where the 7-11 is. There is way too many bums that hang out in that area and it is very dark with little light. That area of the park I definitely did not feel safe in at all. One of the most popular parks in the city and is in close proximity of some of the biggest venues too. Plenty of green space to enjoy a picnic or just to even throw a football around. Don't forget some of the best views of the buildings in the city are close by. There is that really large fountain wall you've probably seen it in all the videos featuring Charlotte, and on a really hot day why not cool down by soaking your self. Nice park, not so great first impression. My first visit was a bit of a shocker because this park was littered with hobos. I strolled in with my family and was greeted by the sight of what appeared to be 2 hobos sitting on the ground handcuffed and surrounded by 6 police officers. As unsettling as that situation was, the 2 people in custody were screaming expletives at the top of their lungs. We found a spot all the way in the corner of the park at the opposite end of the obscenities and could still hear it. Well about the park. Its nice but lacks trees. The waterfall is awesome and there is a splash pad for children which is great. We walked around and there were homeless people sitting on the benches in every corner of the park. This is not the place to come if you want to go for a jog or want to take in scenery. It's more for the folks who live in the apartments in the area. And apperantly for homeless population in uptown Charlotte. read more

There's a good amount of seating options and places to have lunch, meet ups, or just even alone time. I saw a little icecream shop in the center but didn't get to try it out although it sounded good. Great public space in the heart of Uptown. If you're looking for a great shot of the Uptown skyline, this is a great spot for it - you'll usually see professional photos being taken here. The waterfall feature lights up at night and there's some other kid friendly features in the warmer months. The field serves as a venue for a variety of events like 5K charity runs and live music. This is a pretty cute looking park. It is pretty small, but there are benches around so that you can lounge around and stare at the tall city buildings. Beautiful park in the middle of the city. It's so fun to come here on a warm day with a blanket and just sit in the field and read a book or listen to music. There a few pathways to walk around the park and they show you some pretty foliage that has been planted. They even have some community garden items such as herbs! Very cool! In the summer when it's really hot children run through the fountain water - which is really neat. The fountain changes colors by pressing on these nearby pedals. I love all the pagodas and seating that the park provides. It's also really nice to get a to go meal from one of the local establishments nearby (mellow mushroom, bgood, rhino market ...) and enjoy it in the park. This park was a great addition to uptown. It's really well put together with some really nice fountains. The big fountain has really pretty lights that make for a great skyline pictures at night. They also built in some cool musical elements for kids. We recently visited for the Charlotte Christmas Market which was very well done. The warm mulled wine is a nice touch and the German shops are really cute. I like that there are some different vendors that you don't find at the other markets. The sausage from 5Church is delicious as well! It's definitely a place you should stop and check out if you're in the area! read more

So ashamed to same that I was born and raised in Charlotte but had never been to Romare Bearden Park until this past weekend. I booked a photoshoot and the photographer picked the location. Initially, I was concerned about parking, but I had no issues parking in a deck directly across the street. There were so many great spots to shoot. My favorite was the steps that gave you an amazing view of the skyline. I had to do an outfit change and was glad to see that there was a bathroom that was well-maintained. Bonus points because it was heated and the temperature was around freezing that day. I can't wait to see the completed photos, I'm sure the location made for some excellent shots! read more
