The Green Lantern has a really cool speakeasy vibe to it. You know they are open when the green light (lantern) above the door is on. Then you go down into the bar, kind of like your going into a basement. Inside, the decor is a little dark and the ceiling is low, which lends itself to the speakeasy feel. The drink prices are reasonable, too. The staff is great. We've been there several times and have never had a bad experience. You can sit at the bar, or some high-top tables, or even some cool booths for a little bit more of an intimate feel. It's right below Stone Terrace Gastropub. Walking into this incognito bar I realized I needed to go back to my car and get my night driving glasses. It's so dark in there and if you go when it is still light outside, it will take you a while to get your eyes adjusted. Not to worry, the bar area isn't dark and you'll be able to see the menu without a problem, but if you want to sit at a booth, first you'll have to double check you're not going to sit on top of someone by mistake. Enough about the darkness situation. Let's talk about the drinks. I had the tulum because it had gin and cucumber. This is definitely a refreshing drink. Not sweet, but not bitter either. They do have happy hour every day until 9 and all day Monday. Happy hour prices are decent. $4.50-6 for cocktails. Who can beat that? They also have a beer and a shot for $6. The shot is from a set menu, but they have something for everyone on that menu. The place is a good size. I can see how it can get crowded on a weekend night. It's a pretty laid back place. I was assaulted by the employees and security of the green lantern on November 5th,2020. This is what happened to me because I was helping my injured friend in the women's restroom! I refused to be shoved out the back door as I had a service dog and my phone at the table! when I reached for my phone and my service dogs leash because it wasn't right out the door I was pulled yanked grabbed thrown against a brick wall scratched pounded kicked they ripped my shirt ripped it off of me my shoes and starting pulling my pants down doing anything to get me out the door. The Green Lantern continues to be my favorite cocktail bar in San Antonio for many reasons with the top 4 being: 1) Best Happy Hour in the city. Monday- Friday from 4-9pm and Saturday & Sunday 6-9pm. The cocktails are top notch. You won't find an old fashioned for $5 anywhere else that is anywhere as good as here, happy hour or otherwise. Close second would be their cucumber martinis. Just plain delicious. 2) Ambiance. Dark, speakeasy, small. Perhaps it communicates to my dark soul but the Green Lantern feels like a little vacation from the fast paced, loud world. The bartenders here are great. I'm still a little sad that Toni left but Andrew and Ryan are both trained Mixologist's on top of their game in personality and skills. Not sure what to order or want something different? They can concoct a drink to your liking based on your alcohol preferences. 3) Their infusions. Spicy jalapeño flavor with a chili rim or mix it up with half spicy jalapeño and strawberry vodka. Order them as shots or on the rocks, both will rock your socks! 4) While they don't have a kitchen they do have Mike from The Noodle Tree here most nights after 7pm. We were instantly converted to fans and stayed for another round. Brought friends back a month later from California. Same great vibe at 8pm but very different experience. A noisy birthday party for 30 plus another 20 patrons makes conversation impossible. I watched as couples walked in and walked out in 3 minutes with no drinks. However, it was not a "speak easy" if you will. Typically these places are quieter, more lowkey, better for cocktails and conversation. But everyone was very loud, especially a group of middle aged women, one who screamed for about 10 seconds and made the entire place go quiet... the bartender gave her a look but didn't ask her to leave. It was a very chill atmosphere and the drinks came pretty quickly once we ordered. Around 10 the place was getting packed and it was really hard to order anything and by 11 it was such a tight squeeze it was awful trying to get to the bar to close our tab. My suggestion is to go early and enjoy the great drinks but if you're like me and the typical bar scene isn't your scene, plan to leave by the 10. read more

Service has always been outstanding here. I've been a bartender for 15 years. I've been all around San Antonio and know the general group that represents our city. This new generation of bartenders are disappointing. The green lantern has always had great service but what i saw today was so gross. The bartender with the red/black hair (short) was talking about leaving here and going to work on the strip because "she'd make way more money" because idk who she thinks she is. But that's what we walked into. She continued her conversation, i laughed at it and told her it's not that easy babe. Anyways, we ordered. Shots and drinks. Said we'd pay cash. Sat there on our phones completely distracted with something else. Hadn't touched our drinks. 3 minutes went by and the barback was asking, "hey umm are yall gonna lay your tab?" I looked at her in confusion and said, "yes of course. I haven't even looked up at our spread, Gemme a second" and she basically told me that she was sorry but the bartender was asking her to tell us to pay out immediately. We've been here a total of 5 minutes. There's 3 other people in the bar. We don't look like trash. My girlfriend just got off work, she's business dressed, I'm well dressed. We don't look like bums that are going to run off with our Kentucky mules and shots. I'm sorry. That is ridiculous. She already put a bad taste in my mouth by being at her establishment talking about working other places. That's not loyalty.
