When first opened I loved coming here. Had things like corn beef hash I really liked. Last 3 times we have gone the service has been worse and worse. Worst instance now making me leave this review...and not coming back. Started off just standing waiting to be seated, not even in the door because of a group of people. Said they were a big party made sense why it may be hard to get in. Should of just left then. Lackluster attention from staff for everyone that came in after that group. Saw one couple even immediately be seated though after waiting 20 min with 3 people ahead of us and another group behind. (Happened to know the waitress apparently) Saw one table just up and leave due to being ignored and waiting on ticket to the point they left some cash and up and left in a very bad mood. Got told multiple times a 10-15 min wait due to tables needing cleaned off. There were 4 open tops that were empty throughout restaurant, the whole time and then another 3 opened up while waiting. Then was told 20-30 min wait due to the kitchen being backed up. At that point we just up and left combined with the VIP treatment of people being able to skip ahead of not 1 or 2 but 4 other groups of only 2 to 4 people with at least 5 or 6 open tables. I don't leave reviews often and do for great experiences and bad experiences this was one of the worst. The waitresses were clueless high school or 20 somethings not wanting to actively work and instead argue over whose fault it was a table left or why people would have their name written down and instead would leave due to the treatment of even just being seated, but somehow it's the kitchens fualt. 10/10 do not recommend and don't bother. read more

Hit & miss. Both food & service. Had to ask for silverware. Fries were cold. Kitchen was noisy & disorganized. In 2 trips we had trouble both times. Ordered eggs Benedict & it was severed with broken sauce that was terrible. Then I ordered a BLT & the bacon was raw. However my husband's potroast melt sandwich was great both visits. Our waitress was training the second visit so we expected her mistakes but the woman training her maybe should have stayed with her more. read more

Do NOT slow down, stop, but run away! Seriously I placed an order while traveling because I have been to this franchise in the location where my parents are and really enjoyed the food and service. This location is not your place to stop. Nor place on online order. I ordered early, when I arrived I was told they were out of one of the items as I stood there looking at it in the case. I said it would be fine to substitute. I was ignored, the very nasty tattooed young lady NEVER looked up the order and just said I was going to wait. I watched other people who came in after get there orders. I noticed that all the women would only speak to men "oh so sweet" until a black man came in who was National of Islam faith. He too placed an online order. Such a nice a calm and nice person, he in no way deserved how he was treated. When I asked the young lady where/when my order would be ready she was uncivil. She told me I could cancel the order (which I could not) and she would not cancel the order. Funny they can not fulfill the order and not supply the correct items and feel they get away with that. This is so wrong. There was a woman who came out to find out what the problem was and SHE is the person who Did Not correctly fill the order and complained about she didn't know where her head was when another person asked about their order Please take my advice and do NOT go to this place there are too many problems, no resolution and no one (but my bank) who would answer over 12 attempted calls. OMG. This was unbelievably horrific. I'm on a road trip from NYC to LA, and I saw a roadside sign for the Black Bear Diner. I ate at a Black Bear Diner near a mountain pass in Northern California a few years back, and it was excellent, so I thought I'd try this one. It wasn't good. Serviceable breakfast but I've had better. I think maybe I went too exotic getting the Southern Scramble. The gravy was solid but the biscuit felt like it might have been the days before and the scrambled eggs were definitely a dried out mini omelet. Hash browns kind of mush as well. The spicy sausage did have a kick though, that was a nice surprise. Partners basic breakfast looked a little better. He championed the unsurpassed freshness. Perhaps the freshest he's ever had. Have always looked their food, however, I placed an order with them (expensive as hell). Was supposed to be a dinner and a dessert, got here it was a piece of meat on a plate for 40 dollars. I was sick my first night in Amarillo. DoorDashed Black Bear after Cracker Barrel was rude. Chicken Noodle Soup was a bit salty, but the pancakes were DELISH and HUGE! Customer service went above and beyond when I had to call twice! Patience and kindness always win it for me! Will be back! read more

The store wasn't clean, food all over the floor. Under the tables as well. We were seated to a table that was dirty still with food particles on it. I said something & the sweet old lady said it was from the paper towel she used to clean them. My orange juice was water yellow water with bubbles in it. My hash browns were raw and awful. I would not recommend this store to have a decent meal. Even the salt shaker was wet and clogged up. I had to open it to get salt out of it. This was one awful breakfast. read more

I've been to four Black Bear Diners & this one three times in my travels. None of them disappoint. The service has been on point every time & the staff is polite & attentive. The portions are huge & you do not walk away hungry. I went to high school in Amarillo & was pleasantly surprised to see that they had a BBD. If I have to stop for the night I pull in to this location as it matters what a truck stop has to offer for dining and sometimes you want more than just fast food. This location does the trick. Stopped in a few months ago with some friends who had never been to a Black Bear diner. I was so disappointed after telling them about the large portions and how the chicken fried steak was fork tender and the size of the plate. Well it came smaller than a slice of bread and hard as rock. My pot roast was maybe a spoon full where in the past it would cover half the plate maybe more. I have not been back and do not recommend the Amarillo store to anyone. read more

Not sure what everyone else is eating here but it was pretty terrible overall. There is one good waitress running around helping everyone except me. I've got the one waitress that apparently doesn't work for tips. Chicken fried steak is some prepackaged garbage. The "over medium" eggs are almost over easy...almost. If you like runny raw whites then you should definitely come here. Everything is just bland and blah. The Hashbrowns could be great if they weren't oily and flavorless. The biscuits are good. I'll give them that for sure. So I wouldn't recommend this unless you try something other than breakfast. Surely they have something decent to eat with all the rave reviews. This location is attached to a truck stop just off the freeway in Amarillo Texas. It's not the "normal" place to find an excellent restaurant fixing comfort food, but we did. This restaurant is part of the Black Bear chain of restaurants and is nicely decorated in that theme. Their menu comes as a newspaper that features good stories about employees along with some photos. The menu is on the inside. We came for dinner and they had a large selection of entrees for every taste and budget. As you can tell from the pictures, the portions are HUGE! Neither of us finished our dinner. My Denver omelette was stuffed with ham, cheese and green peppers. The hash browns were shredded potatoes cooked along with some onions. Delicious! I also had wheat toast which was Texas sized. My wife had the scrambled eggs and she finished them. She raved about the biscuit and took what she didn't eat with her. Service was very good. We were greeted promptly, seated and a server came right over. Our drinks were refilled when we needed them. Very good service. I'd come back to this Black Bear diner. read more

Went in that seated right away not too many people. There took about five minutes for us to get our coffee and order our food, but my creamer in my coffee looked down at my cup and there was food on the inside of my cup gave it back to the waitress apologised over and over and took my coffee off. The bill. Got me a clean cup received our food. It was actually very very good top up. Everything was clean and fresh. Would definitely go there again. read more

Everything always goes well here. Our waitress was especially kind and we always love the music. We usually order a pancake breakfast but agreed to try something different today. Husband ordered the ham and cheese omelette and ate the whole thing! (Unusual for him!) I ordered the California Bacon Benedict and it was fabulous. Never disappointing. read more

We enjoyed the food. The ambiance was as to be expected as it was within a Travel Center on I 40. The staff were friendly and attentive.

I've eaten here four times and every time the service is terrible and it takes a very long time for anything. Last time, over 30 mins for a to go order, most restaurants 10-15. This time, it took an hour and a half for lunchtime, no joke from 1:30 to 3 pm. They have no one to wash anything so they give you to go cups, they never have silverware, I ask for a side of ranch and they never bring it. It took 20 mins just for someone to recognize me for a drink. You can be sitting there for 30 mins and not one waitress will speak to you. I've been to over 8 different black bears around the country as a truck driver and this one is BY FAR the worst slowest one. TERRIBLE read more

Was seated quickly but no server for about 10 minutes. When she arrived she said she could take our order but not turn it in "because of all this" and waved toward a mostly empty dining room, as if every table was full. In other words, there would be an undetermined delay in when the order was turned in, and when it was actually cooked. Since the person telling me this didn't have a grasp on reality, I realized I didn't want our fate in her hands so we got up and left. The place looked nice and was well separated from the rest of the truck stop. The menu is huge, lots of interesting items. Your mileage may vary as we move farther away from Covid. This was our second visit to this location and I was very hesitant to try it again as our first visit wasn't the best. However I've discovered it's all in what you order. Upon entering we were greeted and given the choice of where we wanted to sit. We chose a booth. Which was a little broken but that was ok. The beautiful bear decor and woodwork makes up for it. We ordered a unsweetened tea and a half sweet half unsweetened tea. Their sweet tea is southern sweet for sure. I enjoyed the unsweetened tea with a little Splenda in it. It tastes fresh brewed and is refreshing on a hot day. I was really waning pancakes so I chose The Grizz even though I knew I wasn't that hungry it gave some of everything to try and was a great price. It was served with 2 huge sweet cream pancakes with had a nice crunch to the exterior and 2 of split them and still left some behind. The meal also came with 3 eggs which I didn't care for there was something off with the flavor, a small piece of ham which was juicy and left me wishing I would have gotten the ham meal, bacon which I would have preferred to have cooked longer, sausage links which were probably the best ones I've ever had as I don't usually eat them and last but not least freshly diced and cooked red potatoes with fresh cooked onions and peppers. The fact that everything was homemade topped the meal off. With this meal comes lots of options to customize to your likening. You choose your eggs, bread option and side option. Who doesn't love options. Hubby ordered the Bobs big bear burger. Wow what a huge burger it's a 10 ounce patty. Only downfall is it doesn't come with cheese. In order to get cheese you have to make it deluxe and add cheese and bacon both to the sandwich. Burger was cooked perfectly to medium well as how it was ordered. The homemade thousand island is really good. He did remove the mayo as they seemed like a bit too much of creamy toppings. The grilled onions really complimented the burger well. The fries were fresh hot crispy and salted just right. Our food did take a bit to come out as they hand patty and cook the burger fresh. Overall great experience and will definitely stop back by again. read more

We decided to stop at a diner on Route 66. This place had humongous portions and wonderful food. We had pancakes, bacon, grits, hash browns, eggs and LOVED it all. The decor is fun with a "bear" theme and the waitress was extremely professional and d fast!
