I know it primarily because it is the halfway point on my evening run. I always stop and take a look at the view, which in my opinion is magnificent. In fact the Bird Nest is ALL about the view from the patio. You can see from Marina del Rey, to the West (see photo I posted) and Century City, to the East. The spot is truly inspiration point. The next time you are visiting the LMU campus be sure to take the time to visit the Bird Nest and soak in the view.

For some reason, either right before I…read moregraduated from LMU or right afterward, it became a big deal for people who worked for Student Center Facilities or whatever department to refer to this swingin' remnant of the '70s as Bird Nest rather than Bird's Nest. Whatever. This weird clubhouse-like structure will be familiar to anyone who grew up in the '70s or '80s in California. It seems that every place near a beach or a pool had some wooden building with dark windows, a loft, and a conversation pit. LMU's Bird's Nest, or Bird Nest, is no different. I attended many a campus event here, and all of them were disappointing. OK, that's not exactly true. Many of them were wonderful, but Bird's Nest never really lived up to its '70s hype. The loft was always kind of sad, and the conversation pit, while definitely not sad, just never did the best job of maintaining conversations. I will say, however, that it was cool that during pre-orientation my freshman year they had Dazed and Confused on loop here during a mixer. I didn't really watch the movie, and I actually really didn't enjoy this mixer, but this movie and the feelings I had were very appropriate. The Bird's Nest was much cooler when it had a swimming pool next to it. They took that out either in the late '90s or right around 2000. When I was at LMU, it was a tradition that you were thrown into a body of water on your birthday. Most people got thrown into the Foley Pond, which is scary because it's really really really shallow so if you struggled at all you were likely to get hurt. If you had a nice friends, they would throw you into the Bird's Nest's pool. I was one of the throwers once, and the lead thrower counted 2 twice, so I let go of the girl's arms while he held onto her legs. She wasn't injured, but I felt really bad.

They have a great inexpensive bar, a pool table, darts, and the membership is inexpensive. If you're looking for a cool spot to hang with friends you should become a member! The staff here is awesome, but special shout out to Stephanie at the bar, she always makes sure everyone is taken care of. Glad I joined!

Went to The Proud Bird for Father's Day and had such a great time! It's a really cool spot with…read moresomething for everyone. My nephew absolutely loved watching the planes, and even my little baby doggy had a great time hanging out in the outdoor area. There's a full bar for the aunties to enjoy, plenty of space to relax, and having Bludso's BBQ there is a huge plus. There's plenty of seating and I can imagine during this time (World Cup season) this place gets so packed and fun in the best way. The service was great. We had a lot of questions about the drinks. We were recommended a flight if we were unsure which you can customize; I definitely recommend this if it's your first time so you can try a little bit of everything. They had a vendor selling tacos, burritos and other Mexican style items which were absolutely delicious and with the drinks it was a perfect combo! I'm not sure if they change that side vendor or if they are a semi permanent partner with them, but I love that they offer small businesses an opportunity to sell their foods. I was told that they used to be located in a different area or accessing brewery was through another area so pay attention to signs, especially for their nearby parking. Although we had no issues finding this space! To end our fabulous book club meeting, we of course, had to take our festivities to the Photo Booth. That said, I had a Michelada here, something I normally don't order. It wasn't the best, it wasn't the worst. Hence the 3 stars. We were here 30 minutes after this place opened and after circling around we were told to park next to the adjacent building. I did try my friend's beers here and after 15 minutes we left.
