I did an online search and The Grout Medic was one of the first companies that came up so I gave them a call and scheduled an appointment. My tile in the shower was an absolute mess. Dirty and dingy. By the time they were done, it was like a whole new shower. I couldn't believe how good it looked! Like brand new! The floor was also cleaned and one horrible stain was almost completely removed. I hired Grout Medic about 2 years ago to add caulking in a shower and clean the bathroom grout in one of my bathrooms and they did a good job. However, I hired them again, earlier in 2025 (i.e. Mar/Apr timeframe) to do additional work in 2 upstairs bathrooms, but didn't have a good experience and the reason for repair still hasn't been resolved. For the project in 2025, I had them clean and add caulking/sealant to 2 tub enclosures and this was done in a nice manner. For one of the bathrooms, I also needed floor tile grout repair but unfortunately I continue to have issues with this portion of the project, even after Grout Medic sent the same technician to do "repairs" 3 times over a 2-month period after their initial work was completed. Project context: I purchased my home in Sept 2022 and it was a complete remodel so the tile flooring that I was asking Grout Medic to repair was less than 3 years old. I didn't see the original grout start to crack until a few months prior to calling Grout Medic, so whatever grout type and installation method used by the seller/contractor, it lasted for 2 1/2 years. When I had an inspection and quote with Grout Medic's sales guy, Michael Miller, he said the reason for the original grout failure was due to lack of bonding to the subfloor. As part of the repair project, he recommended applying extra glue in over 15 corners around/under the tiles to strengthen the bond between the tile and subfloor before doing the regrout. After Grout Medic completed this work, their repair job only lasted a few weeks before I noticed grout starting to disintegrate and fall through the cracks. They came back out 3 times to do spot repair over a 2-month period and I observed the same product failure w/in a week after each visit. I am the only person using the bathroom and only weigh 150 pounds so was surprised at how quickly the product failed me. The last time I emailed and spoke with Michael (approx. June), I asked that if we were trying the same approach and it wasn't resolving the issue, could we try another type of grout (i.e. siliconized grout), and he said they don't do that. I was also asking if they had the right mixture and if the technician was applying it correctly. My issue is that even if there is a larger subfloor issue, why did the original grout product last for 2 1/2 years before failure, and Grout Medic's solution (to include extra bonding glue), didn't even last a few weeks before needing repaired again. Michael told me to email a request for warranty repair to have someone review my case, but I never heard back from anyone at Grout Medic and that was several months ago. read more

I hired Neil and his team to replace a shower floor where the tile and grout were apparently not installed correctly and over the course of 5-6 years started cracking and breaking up. I was concerned that the wall shower tile would be impacted too. They sent Gerardo to do the work. He did an amazing job of careful demo of the shower floor, removed the existing tile and grout, did not scratch or ding the adjacent wall tiles, and went on to lay new tile expertly, grouted and caulked beautifully so that the shower floor looked new and should not leak because he installed the waterproof board material under the tile like the original installers didn't use. So happy I could find a very high quality tile and grout professional that was also ethical in just repairing what needed to be replaced rather than trying to sell me on an entirely new shower which would have cost so much more and which wasn't needed like some contractors would have done. I have hired a lot of home contractors over the years and Grout Medic of N Chicago is one of the very best performing, communicating, and providing high quality tile work (which is an art) contractors I have ever engaged. He provided a recommendation for the glass door removal. We scheduled the work for several weeks later. The work order was appropriately documented, communication was easy and the team that did the work did a great job. They asked for our preferences prior to doing the work and we are super pleased. I have an aging, water damaged, 24 year old bathroom in a Lincoln Park condo that was in desperate need of some TLC. Here's the good. Neil, Michelle, Adam, Gerardo all very good to work with, professional, very happy with the quality of work. So why the 3/5? One, bait and switch. Adam came out to do the initial quote - $1500ish. As their tech was working on it I got a call from Neil explaining that I needed a curb rebuild. That's another $1500ish. This wasn't a super big deal for me when the other option was complete gut and remodel for $30K+. Two, for my situation The Grout Medic will only complete 90% of the work. In hindsight, this should've been a red flag. For the remaining 10%, rehanging your glass, they leave it to you to find someone else. Very strange, but, they highly recommend their guy Bernie who does work on all their jobs. Unfortunately Bernie and his crew hit all the negative stereotypes of contractors you can think of -- doesn't respond to texts or calls, perpetually late, says one thing does another, and he just finished installing my glass and left my bathroom a mess. Oh and it was another $550 on top of the $3000. Three, timeliness. What should have been and what I was expecting to be a 2 maybe 3 day job tops ended up being a 3-4 week job. I can't even remember how long I haven't had my bathroom. read more

We were in the middle of some repairs to our (very tall) glass shower door, when the shower door repair guys pointed out that the shower curb was buckling and had been built improperly. We reached out to several grout/tile/shower companies and Grout Medic was by far the most well-versed in what needed to be done. Adam came to our home to take a look at the project (several other places just gave quotes over the phone, which didn't exactly inspire confidence) and he took measurements & photos of the project. He wrote up a quote promptly and explained how much time it would take to demolish, rebuild, and re-tile the shower curb (2 half-days), and he answered all of our questions and helped us locate the proper shower curb stone top to use. On work day, Harry was prompt, responsive, and incredibly hard-working. He worked efficiently on both days, he cleaned everything up beautifully, and he was always communicative and responsive. It looks fabulous, and it's one of those projects where it is clearly very, very well-built. Thankfully we had leftover tile for the sides of the shower curb from when the original was installed, so we were able to use those. Harry did beautiful work. I was hoping my situation would be rectified by Grout Medic but I have been left with no response to resolve the issues caused by their cleaning and sealing of grout for my two bathrooms. I had fairly pristine almond colored grout in one bathroom that needed to be sealed and also had the Grout Medic seal grout on a new shower install. The team came out in May and spent all day on the two bathrooms. I soon found that they re-caulked an corner of the bathroom that was not in scope and did a very messy job. The grout that was pristine looked dingy in areas and water quickly penetrated the grout in areas of both bathrooms. To their credit, they quickly came back a few weeks later and spent a few hours fixing the caulking and resealing the grout. Although the issue of water penetration was better in areas, other areas continued to absorb water within seconds of getting wet. I understand that sealant does not completely waterproof but it shouldn't immediately absorb water on contact. My formerly clean grout is still dingy looking which is most upsetting aspect to all of this. In June Adam/Neil came out to personally review and said he would look into what happened and get back to me. I requested that any resolution needs to have a different technician. I never heard back. I sent two follow up emails since that visit to get a resolution status and have been met with silence. I do not recommend their services. read more

I can barely see a difference between the re-grouted areas and the old grout (the only difference being the $500 or more dollars lost on those spaces). Neil was very rude when discussing the issue on the phone - I would not recommend the service.
