We continued to follow them the next few years on some of their adventures and actually got to support them for a day when they did a thru hike of the Ice Age Trail in Wisconsin. Their hostel is such a warm and comfortable space, and they are such gracious hosts. They shuttled us around town when we needed it, they told us all about the area, gave great suggestions of places to see, and they even made arrangements for me with a local fly fishing guide! This was such a great stop on our journey and Franklin is such a cool area with lots to do. When talking to them about why they started a hostel, they said they wanted to support the hiking community and wanted to make a hostel that checked all of the boxes of things they were looking for in a hostel through the eyes of a thru hiker. We are not thru hikers but I think they have accomplished that and then some!

During hiking season they provide an amazing breakfast for the hikers who stay.

I am a pretty big guy but fit comfortably on the extended twin mattress. The mattress left something to be desired , but ultimately I slept better than I normally do at hotels because after 11:00, lights go out and it is quiet hours, which all of the other residents abide by. You can't beat the price and location, in the heart of the tourist district, just blocks from the drum circle park and Harrahs arena.

Sweet Peas offers a great product: great price, great location, and good clean, safe, lodging…read more I think its fair to say the following: Asheville is a tourist destination-and lots of people come to Asheville for many different reasons, and everyone needs lodging. With most homeowners prohibited by local zoning to rent out their homes via Airbnb for short term stays, and with limited hotels within the downtown area, Sweet Peas provides travelers with surprisingly affordable lodging for those seeking an alternative to the chain hotels. Sweet Peas is right downtown, in the midst of the all the things that brings one to Asheville: shopping, music, sports, outdoor fun, and...food-you are in walking distance to any and all of these pleasures you seek. I'm a repeat visitor. It's an ideal spot for me when I visit town 3-5 times a year for the price and location. If you have stayed in a hostel before, you know this is a decent hostel. If you haven't, please-don't compare to a hotel. There are varieties of ages present-young, middle, old, all here for different reasons. There will be people to build community with, or, you can hide in your bunk-and that's ok. There is no alcohol allowed, and quiet times between 11 pm and 7 am. The staff are friendly, efficient, and will provide you towels etc. There is a fridge (but know its usually pretty full) and coffee pot and kitchen area. I've found when traveling, its best to travel hopefully, and I've also found then when staying at a hostel, remain hopeful and positive, and you'll love your experience when doing so. My next visit is in a couple of weeks, and I look forward to the respite of Sweet Peas.

Now, I didn't…read morethink this hostel located in Great Smoky Mountains National Park was going to be as nice as a standard, modern hostel. However, this ended up being almost as basic as staying at a campsite. I would say this was worse than a normal developed campsite, as there were no bathrooms! It never crossed my mind that a hostel would not have plumbing. Instead, there were nasty porta-potties. The cabin didn't have heating, so it was freezing. It very much felt like I was just camping. At $25 per night, this was a CRAZY price for their woeful lack of basic facilities. I have stayed in plenty of hostels at the same price that were clean and had air conditioning/heating, full bathrooms, and all the normal amenities. Also, they could definitely have bathrooms because the owner's family lives in a nice house right next to the shared cabin, and they have indoor plumbing. I grabbed sheets and pillowcases from an old cabinet, and they were slightly damp and smelled moldy! It looked like there was literally only one cabin. There were, however, two amenities that I really enjoyed, so I cannot rate this only one star. One was the fast wifi. I did not expect a cabin without plumbing to have good wifi. I could load my TikToks out in the middle of the woods, which made me feel significantly better about being there as I could distract myself. Another was the fully-equipped kichen. I was so grateful for the microwave. I am sad to say their cat was really scary. I think they may have multiple cats. One of them jumped on me while I was sleeping in the middle of the night. I think it slipped in through the door. Actual nightmare fuel.

Our room was at the end of the hall next to the outside door with no lighting at all in that area. We wanted to iron shirts for going out for dinner. The ironing board was ancient and both of us could not figure out how it works. Even the clerk at the front desk couldn't figure it out. It took 5 minutes to make it work but it was still far too low for a 6-ft 2-in tall person. Sounds like a petty complaint but it shouldnt be difficult to modernize the ironing board. A coffee machine was offered with supplies to make coffee however there were no plugs near the desk at all where the coffee station lived. The only plugs in the hotel room were on the wall about 6 ft from the bed and on the other wall again 6 ft away, and one plug by the bedside, one in the bathroom. I charged my phone in the bathroom. The bed was very comfortable and we slept very well. When we woke up in the morning our luggage was infested with ants because we left our luggage on a bench that abutted the window sill. I reported it to a bewildered front desk clerk who didn't send anyone to look at the situation while we were there. The bathroom is very large with one light near the toilet. No light near the shower. The holder for the shower hose faced the room and was useless; it was not directed toward the middle of the tub. It was laying in the tub when I got in the shower. You had to wet yourself first then find the hose with a soapy face to rinse off. For a Wyndham hotel, this was inexcusable. We deserved better. And the "continental" breakfast, just poor. Enough said.

This was my first time here and nerve-wrecking, but we were here for the birthday girl's 50th…read morebirthday wish. Half of us ladies had never done white water rafting before. There were 2 guides for our crew with 2 different rafts. Jeremy helped trained us on how to raft and what to do if we or someone were to fall. Our raft had Jeremy and our friends had the other guide, Dale (an older gentleman). Jeremy was awesome! He helped give us a brief history of all the landmarks and even popped a few corny jokes here and there. I felt like we were the fun raft b/c the other raft seemed very quiet. Heard from the other ladies later on that they didn't have any brief history commentaries and Dale didn't really converse with them unless he was asked a question. So glad we got Jeremy...stating so, we were extra super glad we had him b/c our friend fell off the raft!!! She couldn't swim either and due to the way the currents were, she had to glide down with the water while we quickly move the raft to where she was. Everything we learned went out the door. Jeremy dropped her once or twice while the rest of us were hit with thick tree branches, breaking them with our backs, heads, and ears...it was scary, but Jeremy saved the day and was able to safely pull our friend back into the raft. It was very scary and honestly, I will never white water raft again even though our guide was a professional and awesome. I never wanted to do it and this would be the last time. With our last "bump" before the end of the river, I fell off my seat into the raft and couldn't even get back up. Yep, no more for me, but thank you to Jeremy and Carolina Outfitters for an experience never to forget! You're a cutie, but nope, not for me :P

You then get a quick review about how to raft, plus you get fitted with a personal flotation device, and get a paddle We did a guided ride down the 2-3 lower rapids since we had 4 kids with us. Our guide was Cookie and I HIGHLY, like VERY VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND you ask for if you go on a guided ride. He was amazing which I will get to in a bit. The bus ride to the top of the water a quick one. Every helps carry the raft down to the water's edge. Cookie was our guide. He was amazing! Seriously he let the kids "take the lead" and they really enjoyed all of the conversations with him. We were all laughing on the trip. He taught us how to do spins in the tube and really tried to get the kids wet since you know that's what they wanted. The kids even wanted him to hang out with us afterwards. We did a Friday afternoon which was great because the water wasn't too busy. When we drove by on Saturday, the parking lot was PACKED! You are going to want to wear shoes that can get wet and comfy clothes. Don't worry about bringing your phone. You won't have time to use it. Bring money to TIP the bus driver and your guide. They deserve it!! We will definitely be doing this trip again during our next visit.
