Man-oh-man-oh man (and woman!!) Finally after years of wandering the globe (well, at least this corner of it, here in Ohioooooooooo!!) I've finally found the closest possible match to the comfy, cozy, worn to a fine shine "dive" bar to help (temporarily) return me to the days of my misspent "youth," when every place you went, whether across town or across the country wasn't a carbon copy of everywhere else!! We've walked right by this place sooooooooo many times, I'm not even sure how we finally decided to stop in the other night, but so glad we did!! We grabbed two seats at the bar, took in the WONDERFUL, formerly smoky haze of the place, admired the AUTHENTICALLY eclectic (no "pre-fab" charm here!!) displays, including an AMAZING collection of electric guitars, and were equally dazzled by the great music and the bartender who was just as awesome as her surroundings (maybe more so!!) The mister sampled a few of the bottled brews available (no taps here) and I had a couple of different ciders, all good!! We watched her put together some amazing cocktails as well, and finally couldn't resist, and tried one of her own, personal "specialties," (@#$*!!, I was having too good a time to remember the name!!) which was also wonderful!! We'll be back, to sample more this great spot has to offer, to check out their outside patio, and (for me, anyway) the chance to temporarily time-travel back to a simpler, more carefree/boozy time in my not-too distant past!! read more

The Gulch is one of the few places in Yellow Springs that is open till 1am so you should definitely check it out if your having a late nite in YS. The bartender was super nice and the locals were welcoming and eclectic. But the whole place smelled like the pink odorizer disc in a urinal. Also, you guys need to get some beer taps! read more

The Gulch is the townie bar in Yellow Springs. It gets lots of locals and fewer tourists. That doesn't mean it's not cool. It's actually better than the tavern on the main road. The drinks are really cheap and the service is good even if they don't know you. It's a fun and laid back atmosphere inside. It has great live music. There's usually a DJ weekends. If you're tired of all the tourists consider here. There isn't a whole lot of room so it might be crowded. It's still better than the more touristy bars like Peaches. The beer selection isn't as good but the drinks are the cheapest in town. A vodka with pop is about $2 and the drafts aren't usually much more. The other cool thing is hearing the locals' stories. I would tell anyone looking to drink in Yellow Springs to go to The Gulch. It's got the most character of any bar. You will have a good time in a relaxed atmosphere and meet lots of cool people. read more

I moved to yellow springs back in the 2000s the first time I went here the bartender was rude and accused me of cheating him out of 1 dollar. I'm not kidding. The locals told me they were rude and unwelcoming to new comers. Anyway I went there a total of ten or twelve times In The few months I lived in the village. The guy who accused me of cheating? I never saw him again. It's a dive bar and the locals come here. It is what it is. Wanna get fkd up? This is the place. read more

Did I do something wrong? I thought I was patient and polite. I thought i was friendly. But I left feeling like somehow I shouldn't be there. We came on what happened to be Pride Night, so for us it was unexpectedly busy. Yellow Springs in general has spotty, haphazard customer service, so we arrive knowing that things typically aren't exactly going to be speedy. And it's not like we are in a hurry. So i stand at the end of the bar for 10 minutes. A blonde bartender acknowledges me somewhere around minute 7 then moves to the other end of the bar, with the other bartender and never returns. Brunette bartender eventually makes her way to my end and newly-arrived Mr. Townie guy blurts out his order and she immediately gets his beer. i feel uncomfortably forced to blurt out my order as well because, well, I'd been waiting ten minutes longer than he had. Ok, fine. Time to close out my tab. Again, it IS busy. Brunette point blank asks me what i want and i tell her, "I'd like to close out, please." She goes to the cash register, messes with receipts, then i notice her serving beverages to other customers and closing out other customers. She never returns. Um...ok. I like the vibe from the customers of The Gulch, but I'm not sure how welcome I am based on the bartenders. Maybe i need to be regular from Yellow Springs. This experience really spoiled my night. read more

How could someone who lived in Yellow Springs from age 7 to 23 have never been to the Gulch? I don't know either, but I was one of those people (and might I add I met a least one other person last night in the same crowd). The place is small, but crowded. It was a good feeling seeing many people I went to school with return to town for an all years reunion. My first drink at the Gulch? A lemondrop shot for me and a friend. Two drinks - $7.00. Really? That's better than a happy hour price in most places. There is a pool table in the back. The bartender was very friendly, a DJ was playing good music. Not much of a dance area. Some people tried, but there is only room for about 4 or 5 up front. The bathroom was a little odd. Well not the bathroom itself, but moreso the sink. I just had never seen a sink that tall. Seriously it was like 4 feet off the ground. I don't know what took so long for me to visit the Gulch, but I will return (probably tonight) and in my next travels back to Yellow Springs. read more

First off, calling the bartender "Aunt Jemima" is sheer ignorance. If you act like a jerk - you're going to get ignored at this place. Sounds like someone got the service they deserved! The Gulch is where the locals hang out - not Peaches for the most part with their infected draft lines. I'm caucasian, I don't act like an entitled tourist, pompous jerk and I get great service. I don't live in Yellow Springs but I get to the Gulch every other month or so. Great music, some nice beers - Sophie, Sierra Nevada, a few other import/crafts and it is a great value! Great music scene, great outdoor patio. Laid back, fun and safe. read more

A small town dive bar with a single 75 cent pool table and dirt cheap drinks. It gets loud but it never gets too ruckus. Busy on weekend nights. They opened up a patio out back after the no-smoking legislation. And that's just about all there is to say about that. read more

What a friendly lil dive bar. Met 4 people I'd have drinks with in my first 15 mins. Bartender rocks!

Drinks are decent. Your average dive bar- tons of locals. Lots of drunks. Nothing more, nothing less. Always the same faces, nothing ever changes. The owner of the bar sat at the bar and was rude and made fun of other customers and what they drink- really smart if you want business. If you stop in late, you might be fooled that the bar patrons are super welcoming and friendly, but in actuality, they're just drunk. A couple of the bartenders aren't too friendly, especially if they don't know you. Very clique-ish place. I would avoid it if you are from out of town, as they aren't too welcoming to out-of-towners. Opt for the Dayton area for more welcoming people. read more
