I've been here three times now and the first two times were very entertaining but were very much overshadowed by my latest visit. I arrived 20 minutes early on Sunday (3/29) and no one was behind the desk so I sat at the bar and waited. 15 minutes later I'm finally acknowledged with the most condescending "Yes?". After explaining the obvious reason why I was sitting there he didn't say anything, and went back to the lesson. Once he finally set us up in a room to "warm up" he didn't came back to actually set up the round for another 15 minutes but of course they were prompt to cut us off after our time was over. Which led to my biggest gripe - he comes in, walks past us (while someone was finishing putting on our last hole) and turns the round off without letting us see the scores of the round. Clearly four guys golfing for two hours wanted to see the final scores. Bottom line: this place is fun (minus the putting which is TERRIBLE) but whoever works on Sunday mornings needs a lesson in customer service and etiquette. read more

I went in recently for a lesson and club fitting and don't have enough good things to say. First of all the equipment is amazing, brand new sets of mizuno irons (I think others as well but I only played the mizunos), great space and the tracking equipment/screens are top notch. You are almost overloaded with information. My lesson was with Mike Doyle, who was great. We went over what my concerns were and what I wanted to work on. I'm always nervous about being self-conscious or having an instructor talk down to me and this was totally the opposite. Mike was super friendly and seemed genuinely interested in helping me with my swing. Watching a video of my swings (good and bad) was instantly helpful and mike quickly pointed out a few minor adjustments that have already helped. I also had a club fitting done by Mike Schwartz and again it was first class. We spent more than an hour going over my different swing stats and the options available. I hit tons of different shafts and a few model heads and then we went over the data to show which combos were giving me the best stats (spin rates, launch angles, etc) and then tried to merge those with what felt the best for me. Final verdict = A+ I actually ended up booking 4 more lessons on the spot. read more

What a great place! Small, but refined, Golf Manhattan is the perfect place for a mid-day getaway. Took me an hour to play a full round at Sawgrass - might have been even shorter if I nailed the green on my first attempt at #17! Great staff, nice vibe, and an accurate simulator system that feels very real. It's just too bad it picked up my pull slice so perfectly. I really love this place. They have three simulators where you can just practice hitting at a target or if you prefer you can play one the many golf courses that they have to choose from. They have a wide range of golf clubs for you to choose from. So you can work on any part of your game, whether it be irons, woods, or putting. The simulators give you all the information you need: club speed, ball speed, launch angle, distance, spin rate, shot shape (fade, draw, etc), and much more. You have the ability to store your own clubs for a later visit if you choose. They have club fitting systems available from most of the major brands. And they also can adjust your clubs, change your grips, and give them a good check-up. As many other reviewers commented, you can take lessons with a very knowledgeable staff. I can personally vouch for the knowledge, expertise, and teaching professionalism of Federico F, Tom B, and Marc W. All patient and very open to giving advice and guidance. Have a question, it will be answered. Some other reviewers mentioned that you can have something to eat, or drink. This is also is a very enjoyable part of my visits. After my practice time, I like to relax and enjoy some excellent, fresh food and a beverage. They have soda, water, different beers, and some nice wines that you can try. Just makes for a great all around experience. I can't say enough good things about Joe. He's the best. And if you're unsure of a beer or wine, he will give you the information on all of them. Whether you come here as a beginner to learn the game, work on your game, enjoy the food, have some golf time with friends or business associates, get fitted, or take lessons, your experience will always be pleasurable. All the guys, Jeff, Joe, Federico, Tom, Marc, they make your golf experience a great one. I am looking forward to booking a new package of lessons in the very near future. This place is a gem, and Federico (head pro) is what makes this place so special. I've been taking lessons with Federico and can see myself improving literally every time I come see him. He is very genuine and fun to work with. There is a reason why there are so many glaring yelp reviews on him - he is extremely patient, teaches various techniques and swings in an effective manner and even sends you a video summarizing the lesson every time you come see him! Welcome to the ultimate chill zone. Great staff, and professionalism here. They know how to do business here. Its a sweet set up with a nice bar, with nice beers and the man makes a great sandwiches, real fresh. They have 4 private rooms if your self conscious about your swing, all with very accurate simulators and equipment. All come with nice TV's and are well air conditioned too. Great spot to come hang out in middle of midtown and relax for a good time. Will def be back ! read more

I went to this place many times over a ~2 year period. I took lessons from multiple instructors. I brought friends. I was a great customer. Well, first let me start with the good: the simulators are reasonably accurate, they have an o.k. selection of courses, and it can be a relaxing time. John Manning is a very good instructor and a definite bright spot here. I would recommend him. Why 2-stars then? 1) There is a serious amount of turnover here, particularly among the teaching pros. This is very annoying when you book a lesson package and then your pro suddenly leaves. This happened to me twice. For example, until recently they were touting Kevin Bogrette as the head pro. He was charging I think 250/hour-- a pretty insane rate for a simulator lesson. No offense to him because he seems like a nice guy, but he claims to have been the coaching pro for Ernie Els. From what I can gather, this is an exaggeration at best. Just google Ernie else coach. Ernie Els used David Leadbetter for years and later switched to Butch Harmon. Kevin seems to have been a friend of Els and maybe an assistant to Leadbetter but the bio was seriously inflated in a disingenuous way to try and sell $250 lessons. To make things worse, he did not know how to use the video technology on the simulator (the whole point of taking a simulator lesson) and did not send a video recap afterwards. No thanks. 2) The instructors did not always send a video of the lesson afterwards (not just Kevin), which was promised in the lesson package. If you pay for a lesson with a video recap afterwards, you should get a video afterward, especially if they changed instructors on you mid-lesson package. 3) The place is not very friendly to their loyal customers. You can gather this from many other reviews. For example, I booked a lesson package which comes with free hitting time each week. Golf Manhattan, for whatever reason, requires that you use your lesson time each week you take a lesson. Ok... but then my instructor is not available to do a lesson (out of town) and I can't extend the free hitting time until my next lesson? I email saying I'm a long-time customer and am told sorry, but no. Ok fine, but you just lost a top customer. Good luck. 4) One time I brought two friends. Made the reservation that day for later in the evening. They decided not to inform me on the phone when I called that their AC was out. When I arrive, I discover that not only is it incredibly hot, the simulator is also not functioning. They provided a free credit for later, but they should have told me the AC was not working even if they expected it to be fixed later. They could have called me before I showed up... in the long run would have made more $ off of me. All of these issues made me try Five Iron Golf. I haven't been back to Golf Manhattan. Five Iron Golf is frankly just better-- more space, food on site, much friendlier staff and policies, there just is no reason to go to this place anymore. read more

I'm what you would call a beginner, but I have played several times. I guess you could say I'm at the point where I need to decide whether I'm going to just play casually for the rest of my life, or I'm going to strive to actually get proficient in the sport. My girlfriend was nice enough to get me an hour-long session as a gift for my birthday, and being the busy maniac that I am, I actually had to keep pushing back the expiration date until I could make time. The staff at Golf Manhattan had absolutely no problem with that and were very willing to accommodate me. Anyway, to review the experience very quickly - I did not request an instructor to stay with me for the hour, I figured I'd just go whack a few and see what happened. However, their in-house instructor was nice enough to stick around after one of his appointments and he gave me some excellent points on my stance and follow through. These were hints that definitely had an immediate impact on my swing. He hung with me for about 15 minutes, which I thought was very generous. After that, the gentleman who co-owns it was in the room with me and occasionally gave me a pointer, but other than that they let you do your thing. It's super relaxed and very accommodating. The equipment is out of this world, even in the off-chance you completely miss the screen, the cameras surrounding the tee box pick it up anyway and you're able to see how terrible your shot really was! So yea, I'd recommend them highly. Word on the street is they're hoping to move into bigger digs. If that happens, the whole experience can only get better. read more

At first I was a bit skeptical about taking up golf through an instructor via a golf simulator machine (hitting into a screen in lieu of hitting outdoors at course/range); however, after just a handful of lessons I couldn't be more satisfied with my overall experience and vast improvement to my game. As a beginner, I went from hardly being able to make contact with the ball to someone that just hit their 6 iron 186 yards (ya I know I couldn't believe it either but I crushed it the other day); more importantly in only 3 months through the instuction of Mike Doyle (excellent instructor...highly recommend) I've carved-out and built the foundation to a swing that I can rely on shot after shot. I'm 37 and I'm finnaly playing competitive golf and enjoying the game thanks to crew at Golf Manhatten and the instuction of Mike Doyle. If you're serious about taking up golf this is the real deal; and the lesson packages are the way to go...I strong recommend the 5 or 10 package deal; not only will save 10 to 15% on the lessons, but you get 2+ hours per week of free hitting time. What a beautiful facility the staff is excellent and helpful not stuck up like some golf pros can be and the simulators with track man are fantastic. I have been playing golf for around 5 years and play around a 100 and have been trying to get better, given limited time and options. This is a convenient and well organized place to practice golf. I have been going there for 4 months now. I have taken several lessons with Frederico who is an excellent instructor. His approach is focused on fundamentals and there has been a marked improvement in my game - probably around 5 strokes. My drives have become much straighter and my irons much more consistent. Frederico has been able to tailor his instruction to my style of play better than other instructors. The best thing is that I am now much more aware of the swing and am better able to self-diagnose. read more

I recently reviewed Golf Manhattan , but need to share this experience . After taking 7 lessons, my handicap dropped 1.3 points. I played 7 rounds of golf in Mexico last week. My last 3 rounds were 82,78,80. Federico Frangiamore is a genius. By the way, I was a 10.6 trending 9.3 now. 10.6's don't shoot 78. I'll bet my handicap is going even lower. read more

As an avid golfer I was a bit skeptical that hitting balls indoor could be great experience. Man I was wrong. This place has 3 awesome screens and is open to the public. I am rebuilding my swing from the ground up and was able to see videos from down the line and in front on every shot. Mike took the time to get me set up and make sure I had a fun time. I've recently been visiting Golf Manhattan to seek help with my golf swing. PGA Pro, Federico Frangiamore has been an incredible instructor. His love for the game started at a very young age and his passion is clearly expressed in his coaching. Federico took great care to understand the particular set of skills and physical attributes of my swing in designing a plan that will maximize my opportunity to improve. The PGA TOUR simulators provide a wealth of data about your swing and golf ball trajectory, helping me focus more on the lesson and less on the immediate outcome of the swing. Despite the overwhelming data, Federico impressed me with his knowledge of swing dynamics and explanations of how to familiarize myself with the concepts. wow. i can't believe how much better I hit the ball 2day with Federico's help. Do yourself a favor and book a lesson with him, he is wonderful. I was crushing my 8 iron.. unreal. best shots I hit since high school! had a great time and he really made me feel like if i use his advice i can make good ball contact and stop hitting fat shots. the half hour lesson flew by so i'd book the hour to get the most out of the session. I even stuck around after to rent a room to practice what i was taught and was very pleased with the results. im gonna set up another lesson with him in a few weeks once i get to practice what he showed me and may even get my son over there to tweak his swing a bit. I love this place! Perfect spot in the city to hit some balls or take some lessons. Easy to get to, not overcrowded and the staff is friendly and helpful. If you're taking lessons, Federico Frangiamore is fantastic! He's a master of the mechanics of the swing, but he's an even better instructor. I'm a beginner to intermediate-level golfer and within a few lessons my swing was completely revamped and much more consistent! Federico really knows what to look for and will tell you exactly how you can fix the issues with your swing. He's great at dissecting your swing on video and pinpointing inefficiencies. Then he'll give you a few specific things to work on that you can easily practice on your own. I've taken lessons at a few different places, and I've never had anything close to the learning experience I've had with Federico. I would highly recommend him for anyone that is looking to improve his or her game! read more

If you love golf and want to get better, take a lesson with Fede at Golf Manhattan. I've been playing for about 4 years now, and my goal at the start of the season was to finally break 90. I'm almost entirely self taught, took 2 lessons my second year playing, and 1 during my 3rd. I had a number of tough rounds early this season, so I did some research and decided to give Fede and Golf Manhattan a try. I took two lessons with Fede about 3 or 4 weeks apart from each other. Fede was able to zero in on the flaws in my swing that were causing me inconsistencies. What's also great about Golf Manhattan is that they are filming all of your swings while you take a lesson so you can really see what your instructor is telling you to work on. And after the lesson, they will send you a video recapping your lesson so you have a reference point. After some hard practice working on the things Fede and I worked on during our sessions, I am happy to report that I shot an 89 today at Dyker Beach. Thank you Fede and Golf Manhattan!! read more

Cool place, nice people. Simulator is much more realistic than Chelsea Piers (there is no way that thing accurately captures shots). My only problem is the cost. Used to be okay when there was a Yelp deal, but I guess that's gone and now its $60/hr on the simulator. Seems steep, would be much more willing to pay $40. read more

This place is absolutely fantastic! Have taken several lessons with Federico and can't say enough positive things about the entire experience. He has completely changed my swing for the better and significantly improved my golf game to the point where I can start to see results on the course. Federico has been extremely responsive to emails/texts to confirm lesson times/dates and even sends videos after the lesson with details on ways my swing improved. The facility is beautiful and clean and the clubs that are provided are top notch. Highly recommend coming here for a lesson or even a few hours of hitting balls. Just had a fantastic lesson from Mike Doyle at Golf Manhattan. He's a superb teacher and the facility couldn't be better. The simulators work perfectly and they also videotape your swing from 2 angles so you can see exactly what you're doing right and what elements need work. Plus, during the lesson they compare your earlier swings to the new ones. It's a great setup. And, as I said, Mike was excellent. He quickly diagnosed the problems with my swing and his suggestions were clear and concise. Also, he didn't feed me too much information so it was easy to absorb and remember what he did say. read more
