You DON'T serve beans with a traditional Irish breakfast. You may have it as an option but it's not given as standard. That's how you determine if the place is a genuine greasy spoon or not. In my working class Dublin opinion. This place does not disappoint. I ordered sausage, black pudding and egg. It came with tea and toast and was a fiver. Perfect. They had a full Irish for just a couple Euro more, but this was perfect for what I wanted. Great characters in here. So a good place for people watching. The staff are very friendly. The person who I think must be the owner seems to do the rounds walking around asking if everyone is OK and making small talk to the regulars. This is a wonderful thing that rarely happens in Dublin anymore. They have booths and tables. It is small enough so tables and booths are quite close to each other. My only gripe is the toilets. They aint the prettiest but they seem to be fairly clean, just not well maintained. But hey, I'm not having a piss in Brown Thomas. I am having a piss in a greasy spoon in Finglas Village. Looking forward to coming back. Anyone in the area needs to visit. [Also, apologies for the picture. I was so excited that I ate most of it before I even thought about taking a good picture. BAD YELP ELITE!!]

Yelp 100 Challenge 2019 - 50/100…read more I had the Americano with hot milk and 3 brown sugar cubes, and then some goodies to share with the group: Flourless raspberry and chocolate cake €4.25;Avocado cake - €4.50 - vegan and raw (not for me); Lemon drizzle - €2.50 lemon curd dollop and drizzle on poppyseed cake. This is a cute little coffee shop so much more intimate and definitely not commercialized like those big named coffee hangouts. Please mind the knick-knacks found around the nooks and crannies of the store.

I was completely shocked and appalled by what I witnessed today in the Cafe. When I was shown where to leave my bag and coat there was boxes on the floor and the floor looked unclean. When I went back into the customer service area I noticed the sink had no soap or paper towels. the walls were covered in dark brown yellowish stains. I was putting the cream which was room temperature into containers and I noticed that one of the containers of creams that was sealed had a black fluff on it. There was no menu warning customers of what the ingredients or allergens that were in the cakes and sweet treats. I was cleaning tables with no proper disinfectant spray. The garden enclosed with a covered roof area lack of ventilation in this area has fake grass covering the walls and floor. The papers and napkins covered the floor. The area also had a strong smell of dog. There was flies over the coffee machine. The food the fridge was not freshly stocked and had been there from the day before. The cakes and sweet treats were placed in a paper bag with handles no box or cover on them. gloves were not worn when handling anything. The plastic divider where the cakes are kept behind is filthy. I thankfully did not finish my trail and I will not be returning knowing all this information. It has gone down since Covid 19. The other staff member was extemely rude and kept bashing into me and being on her phone when she should have been training me and paying attention to customers. I was only there to learn.

Alrighty, so I wanted to update this after having lunch, dinner, and breakfast here…read more I would highly recommend this place for breakfast or dinner. Their service was superbly better than what I had experienced during lunch. Staff was friendly and consistent with their service. They also offered quite the variety of food. I would still highly recommend against coming for lunch. However, I definitely enjoyed both food and service during their breakfast and dinner. Therefore, I have re-evaluated my rating from a 2-Star to a 4-Star.

We booked a room at the Carlton Hotel for our last night in Dublin as we had an early morning…read moreflight. The hotel website had an option to pre-book a Prix Fix dinner with reservations (required!) which seemed like a good idea at the time as this was the end of a long trip and we had an early flight the next morning. The restaurant had not been informed of our reservation, or our pre-purchased three course meal. The hotel website had not passed the information to reception or the restaurant. We rescheduled with reception when we check in, but still the information had not been passed on to the restaurant. We asked the waiter who seated us to please check with reception to confirm and he said he would 'contact them when it is time to cash-out'. Glad we decided at hotel check-in to not leave our credit card information and instead 'pay as we go'. This blase' reaction did not give us a warm fuzzy feeling and makes me wonder why a hotel chain as large as the Carlton is still using paper reservation sheets at reception, AND why, if reservations 'are required' when pre-booking, that information does not get electronically sent to the restaurant booking system. Unless there is not one, which it seems there is not. Our meals included starters, mains and dessert. We had the caesar salad and soup of the day, leek and potato. The salad itself was fresh, with large pieces of lettuce, bacon and toast sized croutons. The dressing tasted like mayonnaise. The soup was tasty if a bit salty, even for my SO who loves salty foods. It came with a small slice of tasty, hearty brown bread and a crusty roll and butter. A large bottle of tap water was placed on the table and replaced when empty. Our mains were Salmon with peas and chicken breast with zucchini ragout. Both are served on a hill of mashed potatoes and sweet potato puree is smeared across the plate. Both mains were well cooked and tasty, simple food, aside from the decorative presentation. The peas were firm and the mashed potatoes good. Both ordered the brownie which has a cake like texture, and is surprisingly, a bit dry. There is a sauce dolloped along two sides and some whipped cream. One sauce was strawberry, the other we think is lemon. This brownie needs more than just a couple of dollops. A scoop of vanilla ice cream perhaps? Not sure how large the restaurant is as we were shown to a table right inside the door, along with other guests arriving for an early dinner. The waiter was friendly and service well timed. When we checked out he had confirmed our pre-paid dinner option and only drinks were charged. By the way, the Prix Fix dinner price on the menu is a bit lower than the price we paid on line.
