The owner was enthusiastic about the party and accommodating. Her assistant was so sweet and incredibly helpful setting up and cleaning up. In fact the last part of the party was on the stage in the front room opening presents, while we did that she completely cleaned up the party and packed our food and supplies ready to go! The price was extremely reasonable and worth every penny. I will be holding future events here for sure!

We also needed to have a tent since our wedding was in July, and Sierra worked closely with our vendor that she recommended to schedule set-up and tear-down. Overall, I highly recommend them. Plus they are a non-profit and it's a historical site, so it felt nice contributing to a good cause.

I cannot say enough good things about the owner, Jan, or her property. Jan was available, supportive, and all around incredibly accommodating. She was so organized, she took away all the stress I was feeling surrounding wedding planning. She even offered us a HUGE list of vendor recommendations!! Super helpful! She collaborated with our vendors promptly and effectively. She was candid about her expectations and humored our silliest asks! Although guest parking is a bit of a trek from ceremony/party space, it is wheelchair accessible and it's set up in such a way that a member of the party can "valet" for those who might be unable to walk up the hill. The space is a California dream. Lush wedding lawn, surrounded by evergreens, there is a small lake and even a cute swing set and trampoline! My only wish is that I'd met her (and her husband) BEFORE we were getting married so we'd have the privilege of having them as GUESTS instead of a VENDOR at our wedding.

My daughter recently had her wedding at the Elk's Lodge in Nevada City. First off let me say that…read morethe venue was perfect. Plenty of room with a full bar, stage and large commercial kitchen. However with that said many things went wrong. The grooms family wanted to do the cooking. When we asked if we could use their kitchen , at first they said no. Then they said we could use it if we paid for their chef to be present while we were using it. Not an ideal situation, but we agreed to it. We wanted to rent their plates and silverware and they refused saying that we couldn't use them because they were not doing the catering. I then had to go to a local rental company and rent plates and silverware. I paid almost $400 for that rental. Seems to me that the Elks Lodge could have made an extra $400 if they rented us the dinnerware. Go figure! During the months prior to the wedding, communication was less than perfect. No return phone calls, missed appointment, etc. We were working with a woman named Shawn. Shawn didn't recall many of the arrangements than were made, and had it not been for saved text's to prove we had agreed on certain things, we would have been in trouble. The day prior to the wedding, we paid for the use of Lodge and kitchen at 3:00. We received a call saying the chef had no transportation and they were going to be late. The wedding day I have to admit that the Lodge looked beautiful. Of course we provided all the decorations. However I want to give credit where credit is due. A member of the lodge, Mike set up all the tables and all of the chairs outside. He did an awesome job. Mike was kind enough to do this voluntarily. The wedding itself went pretty smoothly with one exception. We had to purchase the wine and champagne from the Elks Lodge. I ordered way too much. There was two bottles on every table. In addition there was about three more cases as backup if needed. Shawn told the bartenders to open all the wine. So I ended up bringing home all that opened wine which of course would only last a few days. What a waste of money. When I shared with Shawn my dismay on why all the wine got opened, I asked her if she would be willing to reimburse me for the unused open wine. Shawn's replay was, "You ordered it you own it"! Three cases of wine that had to be poured down the drain!!! Just one more note there, the bartenders where on the rude side! When it was time to clean up we had to clean the kitchen. The chef never showed up and we didn't know exactly where things went. They refused to let us use their commercial dishwasher, so we washed everything by hand. I'm wondering what the health department would have to say about that given that kitchenware needs to be cleaned at a certain temperature to be sanitary. All in all, the venue was very nice and the wedding ended up being beautiful! Had it not been for the poor service that Shawn provided I would have easily rated the Lodge a five!

There was trash hidden under a bed, old food in the fridge and freezer, crumbs all over the floor, no trash bags in bins, no hand drying towels, boogers on the shower curtain, AND a cockroach in one of the showers. Not to mention one of the smoke detectors batteries was going out which was highly annoying while getting ready. Don't waste your money on the "Barn Loot". The sweetheart tables were all broken with wobbly legs. Erica is also quite something. During our tour, I notified her we would have less than 100 guests to which she told me she could coordinate at no cost. Just a couple months before the wedding she decided to not keep her word and essentially told me that my husband and I were lying about her having said that. So wedding day I did not have a coordinator. My friend (who is familiar with the caretaking of cows and steer) notified me the cattle was very poorly cared for. If you're hoping for a wedding day that is problem free, do not choose this place.
