I have had an incredibly positive, fulfilling, and creative experience with Brad, and believe made many breakthroughs in my acting abilities during my time there (which I plan to continue). Brad certainly takes a unique approach to his craft and really breaks down the essence of what it is to play a character, while encouraging / facilitating his students to dive deep into their roles to bring truth and believability into our work. The biggest thing for me as an actor is making sure I feel my character and the emotions of my character as much as possible. Brad has taught me so many techniques to do so within only 6 months of studying. From my first scene being so recently - I have already started auditioning for big roles and have found talent management that trusts my work. To be a good actor, one must know how to play their roles effectively so that the audience can believe you! Brad has been training me for a little over a year now. I have learned more in just ONE month alone when I first started than 4 months in my previous class. He is the real deal and will guide you into really FEELING your character without tapping into any possible trauma like many other acting classes unfortunately do (no shade). In this class I learned thought provoking tools, for all students, in how to analyze a scene. I'm still learning/growing as a new actress. I would like to start to start that I don't have any grudges or any issues with Brad as person or who he is as a person. This is based on my experience with the studio and "the Heller technique". Normally when I try a class and don't like it, I just turn away and let others figure it out for themselves. This class and technique is terrible. Part of it is repeating the verb or action in the back of your head while running a scene. It's a technique that detaches you from yourself, your instincts and your emotions. Brad charges too much for what he offers. He gives off the impression a lot of his students are booking and it's a "hot" class to take in LA when it's not and he doesn't. There are a few students that are doing well but that's it. During my AUDIT he was expecting a monologue or commercial to critique with no warning. His technique didn't help me and neither did his acting style. I've been training out here for 14 years and this is the first class that did not resonate with me. When I did my first review of his studio, he called me from a number I didn't know and asked why I would betray him like this and I said I needed to tell people the truth about my experience. He doesn't like that I call him out on this but I have to or I would be doing a disservice to other actors. read more

I wrote earlier in a review about my concerns about leaving the class but after a phone conversation with Brad, we've opened up the lines of communication and he's invited me back to his class. Much has changed in the interim since I left but I've come to realize that much he has to offer is of value but for those interested in his approach, I seriously recommending audit his class before coming to conclusions. I'm of the belief that a teacher cannot make you a great actor but he can give you the tools to perhaps become a good actor. A good case in point is Gary Oldman, a recent Oscar winner who was rejected by RADA and LAMDA but persevered thru diligence and hard work to become one of the best actors in the English speaking world. read more

I took a few classes here a few years ago and it was okay but the format wasn't the greatest. First the classes were a shining example of why there's no reason at all to put beginning actors in a class with professionals. Most of the time those of us who were working would get up and do a scene, get some feedback and maybe be given another chance to apply the changes, maybe not, which was frustrating. Most of the time ended up being spent on either beginners or kids who we had to spend 20-30 minutes watching learn things we learned a decade ago, which was frustrating for both us and them, I just never understood why he didn't divide us up based on experience level. Second, you always had to bring in your own material so nobody ever ended up doing the same scene and would usually wander outside to practice when their scene was done. There was no way reason to watch someone doing a different scene since you couldn't apply anything they learned yourself. And really there wasn't anything that was actually "taught" that you couldn't learn from just reading the book the classes are based on. You'd be getting far more for your money paying someone for a private session every now and then bc all in all it felt more like a series of short private sessions strung together than a class. read more

Brad's approach is the only practical approach to acting I've found. There's no soul searching. There's no childhood memories being conjured up. You don't leave class confused, wondering why your scene worked this time, or why it didn't. Instead, you know exactly what's happening, because it's all in this technique, originally carved out by director Don Richardson. Compared to other classes with complex lingo and convoluted methods, his approach is quite simple. I'll explain. I'm also a musician. Mastering an instrument, or playing a sport, takes focus, breathing, muscle memory, and practice. Brad's approach is the acting version of this. Then, once you figure out what your character wants and feels, it's amazing how the pieces come together. I've seen terrible actors come in, and when they follow Brad's instruction (and they PRACTICE), they become immensely better actors. I always get too inside my own head. Because of the focused preparation you do before even speaking your first line, this approach allows me to focus on what's important in a scene (listening and reacting), instead of how I'm acting, if I'm being funny, etc. Only caveat: it is expensive. However, Brad is always willing to work with you if this is your career and passion. Trust me, it's been worth it. read more

Brad is the first coach I came across that does not use method acting, and that is quite refreshing. His technique really works for me, and it put fun back into acting again. Within roughly five months of taking the class, I've seen amazing improvements in not only my own, but also my classmates acting skills. The teacher, Brad is amazing, and knows how to tell each student exactly what they need to hear to help improve their acting, while also acknowledging the progress the student has made.
