I can't begin to express what an amazing gem Art Rebel Studio is! We were trying to figure something out for our daughter's 6th birthday party. We know we wanted to do some kind of art party but wanted to be unique. We found that at Art Rebel for a glow in the dark art party. Ponti, the owner, made this birthday so special for our 6 year old and all her friends. From the beginning he was so easy to work with and very communicative. Ponti has kids birthday parties down to a science with different activities planned out that all the kids loved! Him and his team handled it all while we got to relax and chat with other parents. On top of that, we didn't have to worry about goodie bags because all the kids went home with a couple pieces of glow in the dark art that they made. There was a separate, and massive, room for food and drinks so when cake cutting came around it was so easy. Also he made setting up and packing up so easy. If you're looking for something different and special for your kid's birthday, I can't highly recommend Art Rebel Studio enough! read more

The owner of Art Rebel is an amazing artist named ponti. He has an incredible business in Art Rebel but beyond that he himself is a iconic artist I had set decorated a 20th century fox show called Empire and I had reached out to him to give him the color, palette and size and had him do several custom paintings for Terrance Howard's office and other sets. He collaborated with me in regards to the colors that I needed and also some different styles. He has a amazing inventory of iconic art that I would urge anyone to ask him to see for purchase. Also, upon commission like I did with him for a show any Set Decorator or designer or person that loves art would love him. This particular character was Terrence Howard, who was a hip-hop Mogul in the story so the hip-hop vibe that is very much alive in pontia work was perfect. I can't say enough about his business Art Rebel because it is from adult fun to kids but extremely unique compared to a typical art business for corporations or birthday parties as it has an edge to it and is very hip and unique in the style that they present to the customer in Art Rebel! So much fun and you forget about your problems and very healing for me. read more

I threw my 31st birthday party at Art Rebel recently and it was an absolutely amazing experience. I came across the website randomly when looking for a local venue and once we checked it out in person I knew it was going to be perfect. Ponti helped execute my vision for the party and he and his staff were so helpful and pleasant the entire night. They brought such great energy! My guests were wowed by the space and had a blast looking at all the artwork and details under the blacklights. We converted one of the rooms into a designated dance floor for swing dancing (though we ended up dancing in the main room as well!) and had activity stations that included spin art, neon playdough, and a graffiti wall to doodle and write birthday messages, which were all so fun. The speakers were integrated in every room and with the volume turned up, it was such a VIBE. There are blacklights in all rooms except one, which we used as the designated eating area with plenty of room to set up food and utilize the bar. We were a group of about 40 people (including the staff) and honestly could have crammed about twice as many people in there if we wanted! It's a lot more spacious than it looks in photos. In the end, I was more than happy with the group size since there was enough space to dance and play without feeling crowded. This was such a fun & exciting experience! My partner & I went for our anniversary, & it was such a blast! We did the glow in the dark painting experience, it was so so so much fun. The staff are very sweet too! They let us pick a playlist since it was end of the evening & we were the last group in. I would definitely recommend coming here! Their rage room looked fun too; maybe we'll do that next time! Pro tip: be cautious on the street outside. It is poorly lit, trash & broken bottles everywhere, very quiet, lots of little hiding spots, & very very empty! Nobody in sight at all. Came here for the "Love Art Experience" which lets you and your special someone create a masterpiece together. A date-perfect art class for creative couples in Sherman Oaks. Canvas, paint, and the use of brushes are all included. We got this deal online at groupon.com The building was a little hard to find at first. It's across the street from the Cadillac dealership if you're looking for it. (Same side of the street) The session was with another couple. For artwork we did: 1) Solo - Valentine Cards for each other. They gave us 1 blue and 1 pink piece of paper. What I didn't like about this was that it was blue and pink. We used crayons and markers... but with the sheets being the color that they were, you were limited in what colors you could use. It was a good way to shift gears... and get more into the painting/creative mentality. I kind of felt like we were in kindergarten again...in a good sort of way. 2) Solo - Hand painting... We used our hands... to paint one color onto a white sheet of paper. It was fun. Although the black paint I used stuck to my hands and didn't wash off... leaving my hands just a little blue. 3) Couples - Painting ... we picked colors ... and painted as a team onto a canvas. This was the fun part, and took up most of the time. I guess it helps in a way. You're able to see if you work well with one another. LOL. 4) Couples - Paint Splatter painting? Not sure what it was called... but we both sat in front of this box... while the paper canvas spun in a circle. From there, we squirted different colors of paint onto it.. so it looked kind of like a kaleidoscope. Very Pretty. Of course... we got to take all our artwork home. I still have them all actually... but I haven't figured out how to hang our painting yet. Oh and music was playing the whole time. They also gave us wine and a box of 4 chocolates pieces. We held my daughter's 5th birthday here and she and her friends had a blast! Ponti was so great to work with in getting everything set up, managing the kids, and leading the activities. He really went the extra mile to make sure the birthday girl had a great time. A bunch of the parents commented on how cool the venue was and how they wanted to come back to do classes or have an adult party there. This was the first time we had her birthday party at a venue and not at home, and it was so worth it. There was virtually no setup or cleanup required and the party favors were taken care of through the art the kids created themselves -- we chose glow art placemats, sand art bracelets, spin art frisbees, and glow art funny faces. (There may have been more, it's a happy blur.) Having the party at Art Rebel was a load of stress off my wife who does almost all the planning and didn't have to spend nearly as much time on Pinterest and at Party City this year. I came from the Travelzoo voucher. It was definitely a fun night and something new to try. You get a Miracle berry upon entering, and after it dissolves you get to taste test different foods. For those of you who don't know, it turns on your sweet taste receptors and the sourest of things like a lime or lemon taste sweet. It's pretty cool. You paint in the corridor area until the rooms are ready, one of which was coloring and one of which was neon painting. The coloring with colored pencils was kind of a waste, but the neon vibes of the joint made it cool. Lots of women dragging their hubbs and boyfriends (lol, they all confirmed it) and the men overall didn't seem too amused (a general observation. I came here as a belated Valentine Day date. I choose this place because it was out of the box and it was intimate. It is simply awesome!!!!! I am not the art type, but my date was.....we drunk champagne (that was included into the price and I took full advantage), ate chocolate, and made cerebral love as we connected mentally. The ambience was sexy, the music was our foreplay, and creating art together was the climax, lol!!!! In regards to the host, Ponti and Scott were awesome! They were patient; gave my "love bug," and I space to be creative, gave us tips as we painted, , and made sure we had everything. Love bug and I painted an abstract art piece that featured many hearts. It actually turned out great (thanks to the complimentary Moet), lol!!!! If you asked me while I was tipsy and painting, I was a black and talented Picasso. The Art Rebel gives you this feeling and it actually inspire the artist within you. Today, I actually plan to go to Michael's to frame our painting. Look out for it as I believe it will get discovered...the name of it is: Black Picasso's Falling Hearts, lol! I came here for the underground dinner. They had a tequila tasting before dinner where we sampled different brands and at the end we were invited to make our own margaritas. It was an educational experience. Seriously though! Okay, I may have gotten a little tipsy by the end of the night, but I shall blame my date for not drinking his share :) We inhaled quesadillas with chips and salsa and guacamole while amusing ourselves with the spin art box. It's really a mesmerizing contraption. We would have been content sitting there for the three hours just adding color after color to our creations... We also had a little interactive art exercise after dinner that involved each person at the table. That was fun too. My only issue was that since we were at an odd table we got sort of neglected and didn't get any appetizers and our food came out really late. I realize they're not a restaurant, so it's not necessarily their specialty, but if I hadn't used a Groupon here I might have been a little upset. I just went to a birthday party for a 3 year old girl today and I am impressed. There were one guy, the instructor and i think he was the owner, and a girl who i only saw in the beginning. They were very friendly. Throughout the whole place, I could feel that the owner has put a lot of efforts to put together the place. I could feel the 'love'. Cheesy? Haha but it is the truth. Art Rebel definitely has the right idea! First of all, they have a philanthropic spirit. I love a business that has heart. Their space is fun, unique and intimate. Art Rebel would be a great place to host a birthday or night-o-fun with friends. They have many different classes available during regular business hours, including cartooning or graffiti. For an after hours activity, the standard underground dinner series is cool, although be warned that it may not be the best place for a first date (unless your date is massively fun and easy going). When you arrive, they explain the purpose of the evening, which is to create a "communal" environment to bond over art and food. The art room is divided into stations, and the atmosphere will take you back to the wide-eyed days of kindergarten: toddler sized easels and stools, wall painting, and a spin paint machine. A light hors d'oeuvre is passed around, and then everyone is invited to sit down for a group dinner (vegetarian options available). You will be asked to dine with people you've never met before, so this is where the "first date" disclaimer comes in... probably not an activity to enjoy if you want to have intimate conversation. After dinner, enjoy a "free paint" session to create a little painting to take home. If you prefer a much more intimate art-based date, consider making a reservation for their Love Art experience. This is a private evening consisting of 2 hours of different exercises intended to help you (re)connect with your significant other surrounded by candles, chocolate, champagne, and art. Mostly uninstructed, you'll collaborate with your sweetie on a piece of take-home art to commemorate the evening. Or, if you want to get really wild, Art Rebel hosts a monthly Paint Dancing class. For $40 you show up for a 1.5-2 hour painting and dancing experience where you start out painting on things and by the end of the evening you're often painting directly onto each other. If I could leave 10 stars I would. Seriously guys, I can't recommend this place enough. Looking for something different to do? Looking to impress your loved ones or kids? Stop reading the internet and drive here now. I am proud to sound like a cheeseball as I say the world (and the valley) needs more places like Art Rebel. I surprised Z with the Love Art package for Christmas. The owner, Ponti, greeted us warmly as we walked in. We introduced ourselves and I asked what his deal was. He said he was an investment banker in a former life, but I can't imagine that dude in a suit. He seems like a true artist to me, like a Viggo Mortensen living in a cave and speaking elvish kind of guy. Within minutes, Z and I went to work. Remember that feeling you had when you colored as a child? Carefree, alive, and just plain fun. Trust me, decades later, that feeling hasn't changed! It's the exact same FUN. We started with some coloring and finger paint. Then it was on to the main event. We picked our colors, put our aprons on, and headed to the canvas. Apparently there were other things going on around us in the world for that hour, but I didn't notice any of them. All I remember was being totally involved in that painting. I'm not an artist (I ended up with more paint on my clothes than the canvas), but I have a memory that will put a smile on my face forever. Z and I created a work of art together and it was freeing and joyous...and the best couple hours I've had in a long, long time. I've been wanting to try this place out FOREVER! I'm crafty... so the idea of dinner and painting/doing something crafty is very intriguing for me.... but I'm the sort of person that goes to Color Me Mine for their birthday... so I just may be weird that way. The Pumpkie and I had reservations for the second dinner (starting at 9 pm) and we got there a little early. There were a couple easels outside... with mixed media work on them... which were very interesting. I like the ideas of toys and dolls mixed into art... so those really intrigued me. Anyway... Our host for the night was Ponti. He checked us in and they offered a non-alcoholic drink (great - since we don't drink...although I also wrote that in on our reservation) which seemed to be ginger ale and definitely some rosewater in that. It was good and I was happily surprised that it wasn't just soda... so that worked for me! :) The theme for our evening was aura colors or something of that effect. We're not super into that sort of thing... but cool. There was a table with cards and you picked one and it was supposed to tell you something about your personality. I think I was violet and pumpkie was peach. I think that's what it was. There was this large wall canvas (ie not on stretchers) where you could paint randomly on the wall. I'm shy... I'm one of those people who needs to be nudged into doing things... but I did draw a little heart. hahaha. Then to the left, there were a few (maybe about 6) child easels with little chairs and you could sit and draw with markers. I cannot draw to save my life. I realized that Pumpkie can draw though... but yeah, I cannot. hahaha. Then there was a guy doing spin art... basically there was a 5x7 card...and you start squirting paint into this paper below while it's spinning. All you do is squirt the paint in though... the guy does the rest. I would have liked to contribute more but... oh well! Now for the food: They moved us into a smaller room with a couple tables for us to eat and color. Now, this place is not for the food... it's about the art. Be sure to go with this in mind or you won't appreciate this place. We had some sort of chicken dish topped with mushrooms and onions, baby carrots, a side salad with Russian dressing and croutons and a dessert which escapes me now. It was all very homemade...and at the end of the meal, Ponti brought out the little old lady who made our food. That was very sweet! You could tell she was so happy and humbled to be making the meal... so yay for her! The last part of the night was the final room. You have an about 4 x 4 canvas and they turn out the lights and there are only black lights. You get a ton of neon paint... and get to create something on your canvas. This was fun and interesting...although, watch out! Your painting looks much different in real life... but it was very cool and somewhat stress-relieving... It is certainly awesome and definitely something to check out...although I can still say I'm much better at coloring pottery than at painting freehand on canvas. :) read more

Words can't express the feeling I got post my first Abstract art class at Art Rebel. I heard about this spot through Groupon and hopped on my first chance to take an art class. I opted for a Friday morning class, and while most people were at work, I found myself being the only one in the class. Woo! Private lesson! Yeah! But there's no teaching someone how to do abstract. How can you? It's... Abstract. So, what they do teach you, is how to escape the confines of our minds. All those rules and ideas that restrict us, forcing us to try to create something understood by everyone. Painting, creating, for everyone else. Every time I've tried to paint, I'd always have to do something "real," tangible... and preferably, right in front of me! I'm great at still life... but with what Photoshop can do nowadays, I'd much rather take a good photo. So, how about creating something completely out of nothing? Man... That's one thing that's had me stumped for years. Everything had to make sense. To me and to everyone else. Art Rebel's Abstract Art class was the best thing I could've done for myself. Forcing me to break free from ideas. Drawing with my left hand while being right handed. Painting with my eyes closed. With every stroke, my hands hesitated, trying to find a way to draw something more "technical" and realistic, until I realized, when your eyes are closed... There's really no way. So, as the hour progressed, I painted and drew, and the hesitation eased. My left hand was starting to flow just as easily as my right. It didn't matter that my drawings and paintings didn't make sense. It was still art. I started to create to the smooth jazz that danced out of the overhead speakers. I HAD FREED MY MIND! It was incredible. Whether the art I created was worth paying $5,000.00 for or not, it didn't matter. It was still art. And it was mine. It was the exact feeling I was feeling in that moment... Materialized. And finally, after all these years of trying to understand the fascination with abstract... I knew it so innately. Not only did the rest of my day feel perfect from the therapeutic effects of mental freedom, but I learned how to appreciate art even more. Thank you, Art Rebel. read more

I couldn't have had a better experience here. Came here on Valentine's Day after purchasing a discounted Love Art package on Groupon (which is basically the special that is offered on the yelp page). I was worried that there weren't going to be any available spots but the person I spoke to over the phone squeezed me and my boyfriend in at 10:00am. We were the first of the couples to arrive and were told to make Valentine's for each other. We sipped on mimosas and had some chocolate and spoke to Ponti. We were then brought to our painting space which was decorated with rose petals and candles and at one point Ponti came by and showered us in rose petals. I'm sure this sounds cheesy, campy and over the top - and it was and I couldn't have asked for more. When we were done painting, Ponti let us make some spin art and we were on our way. For the short time that we spent at Art Rebel, it was one of the greatest and most unique and FUN Valentine's Day I've ever spent. I highly recommend this even if you are not artistic - it's a great way to spend a few hours of your day and you walk away with an invaluable piece of artwork (created by you and your loved one!) read more

I received a phone call from Ponte the day after writing this review. He was disappointed to hear I walked away from my experience feeling like this. After quite a bit of time discussing each other's point of views and crunching numbers, we decided to call a truce. Its been some time, but an update was promised on my part. Just noticing a missed call from the studio, I decided I couldn't put it off any longer... The experience you can have at this studio is tremendous. Setting aside adult worries to play for a night is (was) amazing. The party itself was executed to perfection by Ponte and his team. After speaking to Ponte, I still believe there needs to be clear communication of the total price point for a private party. The amount charged for unused tickets still seems egregious to me; I have trouble accepting that a buffet of tacos and enchiladas comes out to $35 per person, but maybe i'm totally wrong in my estimates? I still feel overcharged because I feel, if I had been given a clear outline of how I would be charged, I could have noted on my invitations that all confirmations would be charged. I believe it would have saved me hundreds of dollars to understand this clearly ahead of time. perhaps most private parties are paid for by individuals where such a thing doesn't matter? Unfortunately it mattered for me, and I was the learning curve for future party people on a budget... don't let it be in vain! ;) BOTTOM LINE: Art Studio is magical. Keep the business side separate and clearcut so that, in the end, BOTH sides of your brain feel taken care of... read more

We came here as part of the groupon valentine deal for the love art experience. it was really fun and i'm honestly really psyched with the painting my husband and i walked out with. i don't want to give away the whole experience since taking you out of your traditional mindset is part of the magic of the thing. the staff was super nice and accommodating and the space itself was really cute. it's a little hard to find in a strip mall (where it isn't listed on the elevator) but it's well worth it. the prices without groupons would be a little steep, which is a concern of mine. plain and simple, there needs to be more art in the world and art rebel is a great tool in getting it out there. the love art experience was set up to break you out of your shell and get you in the mood to create on multiple levels which i think was awesome. this is an art shop geared toward everyone, not just artists. but again the prices concern me. i loved the love art experience but i don't know if it would've been worth the full price since it's a very hands-off experience. I'm not sure how this relates to the other classes. However, again, it's hard to put a price on experience and creativity and the awesomeness of breaking people out of their shells. read more

The staff really makes this place shine. My girlfriend surprised me with the deal from travelzoo and I had no real clue what we were getting into. I'm not a real artsy cat but I do like to draw. I was more hesitant than my counterpart walking up to the studio but I kept an open mind and a positive outlook. Yea I could see how the activies may be described as a bit childish, but the activities are basic and allow you to create what you will without any pressure. The studio is open for you to create as you will. I was more drawn back than some of the other participants but I saw several great pieces ppl were making on the fly. I love this place. I attended the "Art Bites" evening...and was very impressed! The food was excellent...and the people I met were amazing. I guess you find creative people - or people wanting to find their creative selves...becoming...creative! Oh...one thing....If you're expecting "art lessons" - you need not attend. This is a "free wheeling" and "fun" environment to get your creative juices flowing! Honestly...some people who have a hard time with this place...vegetarian options, etc...just didn't do their research. There are absolutely vegetarian options. My friend who came with me is a vegetarian...and she had no issues. She loved it. I snagged a deal for a 1 hour Graffiti Class for myself and my sister. Once we walked in, we were both in awe of the amazing, cool, and interesting artwork that was displayed throughout the place. There were also some art books to look at. Walking into this place, I felt at home. I felt inspired. Our instructor's name was Scott, and it was neat because it was basically a semi-private Graffiti class!! We got a little history lesson on the early beginnings of graffiti art and got schooled on what the law is in CA...lots of good stuff to know! After trials and errors, and 90 minutes (!!) later, we both came up with some pretty awesome graffiti art. He even gave us some graffiti alphabet to take home as well as a small poster. Scott was very helpful, patient and knowledgeable. It was great being able to converse with someone who knew about the underground culture: music, art...as well as the mainstream like street art. It was very refreshing and intellectually stimulating. I wish there were more ppl out there that knew about the underground stuff. I came up with an original work of art in a matter of 90 minutes and got to spend quality time with my sis....even she said, "wow, I'm surprised at what I made...I can actually say I made this." This place was awesome! I used a great Yelp deal as a Valentine's Day special this past year and we had a blast. Pretty great value for around 2 hours of entertainment. I won't spoil the surprises but the package includes champagne, 3 art projects, and take home goodies. They have tons of other great ideas for intimate dinner parties with your friends or something randomly fun to do over an afternoon. Had an awesome time :) read more

The bf and I visited Art Rebel this past weekend. I had purchased a deal on Gilt for $99 (dinner for two). The art: Spin art - I used to have one of these machines as a kid so it was a lot of fun for me, and the bf seemed to really like it Communal canvas - the canvas was pretty much full by the time we made our way in, which was odd since we got there on time Art easel - markers and paper are always fun to play with Individual canvas - the assignment was to paint a sun, if you have the option to paint in the dark room, do so! They have a black light in there and you get to paint with florescent paints. The food: Greek Salad - it was ok... Chicken Soulvaki - the chicken was really salty Baklava and Watermelon - this was probably the best part of the meal Wine - they definitely kept it coming Overall... this is not a dinner place (no duh, it's an art studio). I might not have been a fan of the food but I am a fan of what they are trying to accomplish. So if you are going to participate in their underground dinner, go into this as a patron of the arts, not as a food critic. read more
