For the…read morelast five months, however, the trash collection has been grossly inadequate, and the management has done NOTHING but talk about it. They actually made it worse by removing the recycle bins, so now all the recycle is being dumped into the trash bin. I've also complained about a rat or rats running around the attic above my apartment. The management has done NOTHING effective about this issue either. The management suggested that I was making this up -- until they showed up with a manager from the post control company who confirmed there had been a rat or rats in my attic. For the rent they charge, this should be a garden spot; instead the parking area and trash dumpster look like a slum. Last week, I called the corporate offices for times and never got a call back. So it seems that neither the corporate office nor the local management gives a hoot about its tenants. Save yourself money and aggravation; rent elsewhere.

A small (48 units) complex, so peaceful and quiet, safe, grounds are well-maintained, and the office staff are great! Michele (site mgr.) is so wonderful to her residents. And maintenance is all about prompt response. Anytime I needed something taken care of, usually it was the same-day - certainly no later than the next business day. Truly, I have nothing negative to say about River Valley Apartments. I would recommend it to anyone!

Was told that the apartment we were moving into was freshly renovated, Day 1 the dishwasher had…read morestanding water in it and didnt work and microwave number pad was peeling off. There was no property manager at the time, Chris the maintenance man, was the stand in. He did replace the dishwasher and glue the microwave number pad within two weeks. The toilet tank was black with mildew and mold. We had it tested and it came back positive. Chris then stated mold doesn't grow on porceilin so heaven forbid what else has mold that they ignore on this philosophy. It was also found under our sink that there was mouse poop and pee that had become moldy. We were then told there used to be a mouse problem, our big problem was these feces were found on top of the "fresh" paint. So it was apparent the droppings were there after the apartment was "renovated". There was also mold found behind the paint. The painters paint over mold and WestCal along with Neda, the property manager, take no responsibility for this. In fact they reinforce this is normal, that mildew and mold normally forms behind the paint. When we first moved in we were told by Chris that he had to most recently clean broken glass out of the pool, but he isn't sure if he cleaned all of it. He told us to not use the pool because of this. We never recieved an update on this incident. We were also told that it was normal for cars to be broken into around the area. That we should keep the doors locked but to not be surprised if we wake up to a broken window. The apartment complex goes through so many different third party companies to control their payment process that they don't know how it works. For two months it showed I had credit towards my next months rent and it took two weeks of disputing for the company to figure out what the problem was so that I could finally pay my rent properly. At one point we paid utilities via Money Order (because thats what the utilities receipt stated we had to do) and Neda had placed our money onto another apartments statement. She only realized this during the two week dispute i had with the credit appearing on the app for my statement. She admitted her mistake though if she did this with me who else's rent has she been "mistakenly" placing in others statements? Neda, the new property manager has been trying to make the place nicer to live. Though she is a snake, be ware of this complex and Neda. She is nice to your face, but she talks negatively behind your back. Don't trust her or WestCal. This is from the fact she provided a negative reference about myself when I attempted to move out. I strongly urge people to stay away from this complex if you have options to go anywhere else.

I used to go on walks with my friend and her dog in the morning, and it was very relaxing. The area is well landscaped, and there is a pool and tennis court. You have to pay extra to visit the pool I think, which I never did, but it was nice to look at. The apartment is close to Bel Air, New Earth Market, Walgreens and Walmart, so you have a lot of shopping options. Starbucks is so close I used to walk there. Jamba Juice, Mountain Mikes, and Sushi Ichiban were nearby as well. Any time I had an issue, I could talk to Imelda, the site manager, and she gave me good advice about what to do. One time I got locked out of my apartment and it just so happened that Maria, a lady that works for Heatherwoods, was walking by. It was on a weekend so the office was locked, but she went in and found an extra key to let me back into my apartment. Maria was an angel, I would have been locked out of my apartment all weekend if it wasn't for her. I never experienced any theft in the 4 years I lived there. There are homeless people that would come to the dumpster to pick up cans, but they never bothered anyone. I think my biggest complaint would be a loud neighbor that used to have parties next door to me, but he either got kicked out or left. Another neighbor was having a domestic dispute, which all the neighbors heard and we all went outside to see what was going on. The cops came, and everything settled down, but it was scary to hear it. But for the most part, my neighbors were quiet and friendly. The rent price went up before I left, which I didn't like. But I also think prices have gone up everywhere, unfortunately. Also, I got most of my deposit back when I moved out. I would recommend Heatherwoods because in my experience, the good outweighed the bad. I liked the management, the area, and my neighbors (for the most part)
