I attended a Murder Mystery event at this lovely location. The property is gorgeous with the light blue facade, arches, old architecture, and lots of charm. This location is behind a hotel which makes it a great spot to hold a wedding or any large event that might have alot of out of town guests, that way everyone can stay in the hotel right next to it. I drove here in the evening and was easily able to locate the venue and it had plenty of parking in the back right at the venue. Once entering the building is beautiful. The lovely hard wood floors were eye-catching. During the event, I wondered around the property and got to see into many rooms and even the upstairs. The manor is setup great for a wedding with rooms to get ready in. There is a decent size bar in the center of the first floor. The main ballroom was where everyone was seated. The large chandelier is stunning. There was a large wrap around porch which is where the food was located for this event and made it a nice flow to walk around. There was plenty of bathrooms and easily found right outside of the ballroom. The food provided by Dubsdread was good and a decent variations of options. Everything was kept hot. Beautiful wedding venue!! We came for my friend's wedding and everything came in place nicely. Florida can be unpredictable for an outside ceremony wedding but it was the perfect 5pm early evening ceremony under the shady trees, so not terribly hot. The 4 piece strings were amazing! Cocktail hour was nice with a Mac n cheese station, and open bar with 2 signature cocktails. Dinner service was nice with my steak perfectly cooked. DJ kept the party going and the bride and groom were so happy. Great venue in Apopka, easy to access from Orlando. Lots of parking available. read more

This is a great location for parties, weddings, etc. The decor is very elegant. The food was great, though that might be from a separate caterer. We were there for a wedding and there were a couple issues. The wedding cake was placed in a very back corner, so no one could truly view the cutting of the cake, as photographers blocked it. They had a front bar, where appetizers were given out and a 2nd bar, in the main ballroom. We had glasses of champagne that were all collected prior to anyone actually finishing them. One waiter claims they didn't want anyone over indulging, but the bar was still serving mixed drinks. The waiters even took away the filled champagne flutes that were ordered from the bar later, while people danced. To me, it all seemed like a ruse to collect more bar tabs. Definitely not a good business practice. If planning an event here, be aware. read more

I was here as a groomsman for my friend's wedding this weekend. Overall, we had a great time at the Highland Manor. During the rehearsal, they toured us throughout the manor and walked us through the outdoor ceremony underneath the large tree. The ceremony area was picturesque and allowed for great photo opportunities for the bride and groom. They also did a large group picture for us in front of the manor which was unique. The food was delicious, especially the cram cakes. The appetizers were also great! I can't speak about the pricing though. Overall, we had a great time celebrating their wedding. read more

My brother had his wedding here during a weekend in March. The property is maintained very nicely and the staff from Dubsdread did a great job of providing everything we needed. There is a groom's room and a bride's room. They have a pool table and darts in the groom's room. A server is provided the day of the wedding for all the groomsmen and bridesmaids' needs. The property is well maintained but 441 running adjacent to it makes it a bit busy - nothing they can do about that. read more

I went to a wedding reception here this past weekend. It's a large venue that has smaller rooms that make it cozy as well with a nice wood touch to it. It was actually a bit cool on Saturday night that they had nice little fires outside on the back porch. It was beautiful out and they have a nice tree that would be a perfect backdrop for pictures. I noticed they have glass areas that whoever the event is for can display photos/ larger items which make it unique and personable. The only bummer was the outside was close to the highway, but it didn't seem quite noisy to me at all and it wouldn't affect pictures. The area that we ate in, had the most GORGEOUS chandeliers I was obsessed. They also had great lighting as well. I would for sure recommend this pretty place to others for a wedding. read more

What a lovely house turned event venue this place is! It's just the right size for a wedding to give you that intimate and cozy feel. They have fully stocked bar, a groom's and bride's room for privacy and picture taking. In case you're in the mood for a game of pool, they have a nice pool table set up in one of the rooms too. I absolutely love the picturesque ceremony area in the back of the venue. That big oak tree overgrown with Spanish moss sets the perfect backdrop for the wedding. The only thing I didn't like about the venue is it's right next to the busy 441, it could get a little noisy sometimes. But that's nothing they could do about that. What happened to the Highland Manor from September '09? When we returned again in March it was like a whole different restaurant. Standards have really fallen. Gone is the Buttermilk Quail I enjoyed on my last visit and the emphasis on organic and locally grown food. In its place is a massed produced, probably frozen and fried mess. We ordered stuffed mushrooms as an app which were fried, bland, and soggy. I specifically asked if the scallops were pan fried (sautéed) or deep fried. Despite being assured they were pan fried they came out deep fried and, really, tasted just like the mushrooms. Everyone at the table got the same mashed potatoes and steamed veggies. The mix of veggies were improperly steamed, the carrots were understeamed and the broccoli was so oversteamed it was mushy. Nobody was pleased with their meal. Service can best be described as bumbling. Our main server did an ok job but when a bottle of wine we ordered was out of stock they sent some yokel to the table holding 4 bottles for us to choose from. We told him we would probably want another bottle of the same later and he said no problem. Later in the meal when we asked for that second bottle they sent yet another lady over to apologize because they were now out of that wine too. You could tell she had no idea about wine; she was listing bottles that didn't even exist! It was funny that the owner came around to introduce herself and inquire about the meal BEFORE the food arrived. If she had been there after we had tasted everything she sure would have gotten a different answer. I was really hoping that Highland Manor would become an upscale dining option in Apopka but unless they take big steps they are going to have to exist on weddings alone. read more

I'd like to take a moment to bring this venue's information up to date. The Highland Manor is now being managed by Dubsdread Catering (think Tap Room in College Park). In June 2011, after the Manor's previous tenant absconded with about 75 bride's monies, the City of Apopka approached Dubsdread to take over operations. Dubsdread agreed, helped as many brides as possible have their dream day anyway, and continues hosting all sorts of events there. The house dates back to 1903 and was moved to it's current location in 1985. There are rooms of all sizes available for private dinners or large events. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous, and wedding ceremonies under the massive oak are magical; there's just something dreamy about peacocks parading about you. This venue, and its owner Richard Wilhelm, are criminals. He deliberately defrauded any number of victims, including a member of my family. He took $1,500 deposits when he knew that he was being evicted because he had not paid rent to the City of Apopka in months. He had a $76,000 judgment recorded against the business in 3/11 when he took our deposit. He hadn't paid Florida unemployment withholdings in month and now has that lien. I'm pretty sure we'll never see that money again, but I'm damn sure we're filing a criminal complaint with the state prosecutor's office. read more

We had the ceremony until the oak tree and the reception in their ball room. All of our guests had a fabulous time. I have been there for a few dinners, and every time it's really good! I went hear with a bunch of my girlfriends for brunch on Sunday. It's such a beautiful and historic place. We were seated in a private room that seats up to 10 people. So it felt we had our own party room. The brunch is all you can eat buffet for $20, add $5 you get unlimited mimosa. The food is.... buffet food, so its not like the great awesome buffets you find at vegas, but its a decent buffet to get stuffed from. It was my first time eating biscuits and gravy, which I thought was pretty good. They also over pancakes, eggs benedict, an omelette station, meat carvings and more. I think its a great place to try out at least once! read more

My wife and I visited Highland Manor for Brunch, and were rather disappointed in the quality of the food. The buffet was very basic, with your typical breakfast items (eggs, bacon, sausage), and the meat at the carving station was only served well done, which made it very dry. The service there was also disappointing. We noticed that the servers were not only taking orders for drinks and food, but were also filling empty food spots in the buffet line. That seemed rather odd as it took them away from serving you directly just to keep the buffet stocked. This resulted in very slow drink refills and just average service. After this overall experience, I have little to no desire to return. read more

My wife and I had our wedding at Highland Manor on February 26, 2016, and wow... I cannot honestly say enough positive things about this venue and staff. We fell in love with the venue immediately; both the ceremony and reception spaces were beautiful and had an incredible amount of charm. After we booked the venue for the wedding, we then began to love the staff at Highland Manor. The entire staff is very courteous, cares about all your small details, and communication is extremely fast. Bonny was our day-of coordinator and she was out of the world, amazing to us throughout the whole process. When it finally came to our wedding day, we were even more impressed with the food, service, and staff of the Highland Manor. All of our guests (especially those who have been to many weddings) would not stop talking about how our wedding was one of the best they've ever been to and went on and on about the venue and the food. Best of all, the bridal party has a butler before the ceremony that will get you whatever you need, including drinks. Our butler was Giam, who was incredible. He made sure my wife and I ALWAYS had a fresh, cold drink in our hands the ENTIRE night. We have never seen service like that. I would highly recommend looking into Highland Manor for your venue. They are first and foremost a catering company, so you know the food is going to be top notch. Everything else is just a bonus, and big bonuses at that. My fundraising event was hosted by Highland Manor (managed by Dubsdread Catering) during the holiday season of 2018. Here are the things that went right: The personalities & attitude of staff were excellent; very courteous! The food was excellent! Staff were also very helpful to me when my own equipment needed tweaking. The things that went wrong: (1) Follow-through on management's promises was bad! (2) Accessibility to staff when it was time to dim the lights & bring the lights back up (for my presentation) was also poor. (I had to send a guest to hunt for staff at both times.) My two biggest concerns about this venue are (1) The poor upkeep of foliage & the careless attention to the details of picking up litter; and (2) The horrific experience of the broken promise that the VERY UGLY temporary rear entrance to the property would be beautified in time for my event! Background & Details: Due to unforeseen MAJOR construction adjacent to the Manor, I was asked (10 days before my event!) to reroute my guests to the back of the property; their "new entrance." I was not told why. So I tested out the new entrance 4 days later. The first things that greeted my eyes when I drove through the new entrance (a week before my event) were a dumpster and a maintenance yard! I immediately complained, so management replied: We want to "ensure you that your event is going to be perfect! I have spoken with the owners to see what can be done to accommodate blocking the dumpsters from view. I believe we are leaning towards potted trees." However, on event morning, when I arrived 2 hrs early to set-up, I came through the "new entrance" (as my guests had been instructed to do) and was greeted by a broken toilet sitting next to the dumpster! I was livid! Nothing had been done to improve the new entrance. So to appease me, the chef parked his truck in front of the dumpster to at least cover it. This was the best solution the event captain could offer. I had chosen this place for its historic charm. Rerouting my guests to the rear with only one week's notice of this change (and the unfulfilled promises to make the best of the situation) completely canceled out the would-be charm of Highland Manor. I cannot recommend this venue. read more

Freshly made omelette was good. Food was cold, due to the lids being left open by customers. The lids were too hard to close. Because of the very limited food selections, I feel the $20 Sunday brunch was WAAAAY overpriced. Sausage was horrible. We were overcharged and I had to call back to let them know. They are going to refund the overcharge. Funny green added to the bisquits. When serving bisquits and sausage gravy, just fix old fashioned bisquits. Some items were empty and not replinished, and this was still early. Piano was too loud to enjoy table conversation, and we could not hear what the waiter was saying. A pretty place, but the food needs to be a lot better. One Hershey bar for five people at the end of the meal was rather stupid. read more

We rented this venue in July 2019. There was no mention of upcoming construction at that time. We are two months away from our wedding date and this place is a construction war zone. There is very little parking, a 8ft eye sore white fence that cuts off what was a beautiful skyline of tress and an old manor house on the property. We have address this issue several times and the management act like the construction zone is not visible and we should all pretend it is not there. Went for their Easter brunch. Utter chaos and nasty food. The burned microwaved bacon and sausages were bad enough but a 40 minute wait for prime rib and the waitresses were cutting the line getting super big slices for their tables causing the people doing it the right way to either not get any or get slivers of burned nasty prime rib. The ham came out ice cold with crystals still in the center. Our waitress gave the table next to us out drinks then after the guy took a drink and said it wasn't what he ordered tried to take them to our table. When we made her get new drinks it took 30 minutes and not once got refills. For the price you would expect decent food not microwaved nasty junk. What was decent was replenished so poorly people were waiting to pounce as soon as the food was brought out. I had 2 important family parties there, one in May and another yesterday (10/02/2010). IT WAS , HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE! In both cases the hot food was not hot -- the cold food was not cold. As far as the flavor? I would have been much happier with a dollar cheeseburger from MacDonalds! Over the years, each time this beautiful venue reopens with a different name, the food and service gets worse and worse. When I was there with my family last May, my chair fell apart while I was sitting in it. The server saw me catching myself as I fell to the ground and said, "oh well they're all antique chairs... let me get you another one"! If I am ever stupid enough to visit the Highland Manor again, please remind me of these golden moments and tell me to go home. read more

I had my wedding here on 10/16/16 and couldn't have chosen a better venue! Bonny and Gian from the Dubsdread team were exceptional in working with us the entire day. Bonny was with us from day one about two years ago and her level of service and help was insanely wonderful. Everything went off without a hitch and they made sure that we (my bridal party) and my groom and his guys were all taken care of. The wait staff was attentive and this place REALLY REALLY tries to be high brow. I liked it, I really did, but our waiter was a little off his game that day. He dumped mimosas on another woman... twice. I was supposed to have a free meal and he didn't (or wouldn't) look it up to check. I will have to go back in a few weeks and re- review. Otherwise the food was really great for a buffet and was replenished often. There are healthy alternatives to almost everything and I even tried a few new items that I have never had before. Went to Sunday Brunch there today, for $20.00 you can't find another place with such quality food. They do charge extra for coffee or ice tea but with such a reasonable brunch price, that was expected. The service was spot on, friendly and attentive. There was also a wonderful harpist playing in the dining room. The home was built in 1903 and restored to all it's splendor. The grounds are beautiful with large old oak trees. What a perfect place to have a wedding or other function. They even have a seperate chapel if you don't want to get married outside or in the ballroom. We will be going back for lunch, dinner or brunch very soon. So worth the drive from anywhere in Orlando. read more

I recently had my wedding at Highland Manor and it was better than I could have ever imagined! I planned the whole thing from California, but Corey and the rest of the team were so professional and helpful that it wasn't that difficult for me to get everything done. They responded to my emails and calls quickly and took care of every worry my mom and I had. They had solutions to every problem and made sure the groom and I had whatever we needed. At the end of the night they packed everything up quickly as well as some food and cake for us to take home. They were incredibly thoughtful and accommodating and I couldn't be happier that we found this place! We also had a ton of compliments from our guests that it was the most beautiful wedding they had ever been to, and I have to agree! read more

This place was great on my first visit for brunch a couple of years ago. It seems like every time I go back however, the service and food get worse and worse. I love the atmosphere and decor and the place itself though (a historic manor with gorgeous grounds), which makes it even more disappointing. The last time we went for brunch our server rarely came by to check on us and we went for a long while with no refills on our mimosas or waters. The food was OK but not great. they kept quickly running out of smoked salmon and when they would refill 15 min later it was with such a a small amount that it was gone within seconds and not refilled again before we left. I understand if they were low, but for the price point I expect more than that. One thing to note, I made a reservation for brunch and told them it was one of the people in my party's birthday and asked if they do anything special for that. They said yes and that they would take care of it. When we got to the restaurant I reminded the host that we had a birthday and they acted like they were right on top of it. We sat there for an hour and half, ate, had desert, paid our bill, and no one ever came over to acknowledge the birthday in any way. All in all, good atmosphere, beautiful setting, decent food, poor service, refill problems with buffet and don't expect them to do anything special for a birthday. read more

We attended a wedding ceremony and reception for about 120 people last night. I was blown away by the entire experience. Each and everyone of the staff was friendly, and professional. The grounds are incredible as was the ceremony under the large oak tree. We really loved the way the buffet was set up, out of sight of the main room and a perfect place for bride and groom to meet and greet their guests. The prime rib was exceptional (I'm a PR snob...), also the Mahi was delish and the panko crusted chicken. I would not hestitate to recomment The Highland Manor for any and all venues you are planning. It's just perfect, we could not think of anything to say about this experience that was not a 5 start experience. read more

Checkers decided to have their Company holiday party with Highland Manor this past December (2013). We have used this location for a few of our events over the past two years. Dubsdread Catering took over the events at this location a few years ago and we had heard that it was a reputable company that emphasized great food and great service. We have had great experiences with them and could not have been happier with our holiday party. The service was outstanding. The food was fantastic. They helped us decide on a menu that everyone enjoyed and the venue was decorated beautifully for the holiday season. I would recommend this venue and the Dubsdread team to anyone for any type of event. They are well known for the weddings that they do and have won a bunch of awards but I don't think that enough people realize how much more they do. Small or large parties - they have you covered. From a business perspective, I did not need to have planning our holiday party turn into another full time job for me but I still wanted it to be nice. They really took care of it and so much more - without taking up a ton of my time to accomplish our best event to date. read more

The atmosphere is great, but as another reviewer wrote, they were not very quick to refill the serving dishes and other than the omelet the rest of the food was unremarkable to poor and not at all the quality I expected along with not enough choices in foods.
