This was a last minute stop before we decided to explore for the day. So glad we decided to go! Wow the customer service was amazing. Decided to ask about a trail I wanted to go off roading on and Layna was more than helpful. She gave me an off-roading magazine that explained each of the trails out in Sedona and She was very knowledgeable and friendly. After the trail we returned to the shop to check out some hiking boots and Layna helped us out again. She let my boyfriend try on a couple of boots to get a feel of what he liked. Hey y'all, the ladies that work up at the Hike House are a treasure. Laina, Star and Alli were so nice and knowledgeable I came by twice after my initial purchase just to hang out!! My water pack had a cut in it that lead to black mold so I went by HH to pick up a new one. They have lots of hiking shoes and gear plus a lot of "Sedona" insta-ready outdoorsy clothes. Nicely curated. There is also a little cafe up front and the chocolate oatmeal cookies Laina hit me with saved my LIFE on a 7 hour hike the next day. I also picked up a really interesting book about the Havasupai tribe of natives, their culture and their struggles to save their land. But again I have to give kudos to the ladies. The staff is super helpful and friendly! I came here near the end of August and they gave us good advice on hikes to do to avoid the summer heat that would still afford us really great views. They have a good amount of gear available here--basically anything you'd need for a hike (e.g. boots, hiking poles, hats, clothing). I already had what I needed hiking-wise, but I did end up getting a cooling towel here! It is on the pricier end but not ridiculously so, especially if you need something immediately/are just visiting and don't want to have to wait for it to ship to you online. The cooling towel was definitely a worthy investment for summer hiking in the desert--they even took it next door to wet it to activate it for me so I wouldn't die on my afternoon hike! I also got a tropical sunshine (mango and pineapple) smoothie here -- super tasty, but also kinda pricey. They have phenomenal service though. On my very first hike in Sedona, BOTH soles of my trusty Lowa boots (circa 2004) disintegrated. So I retied the shoelaces around the flapping soles and managed to complete the hike! The next day, I went to Hike House to see what was available. Tal was super friendly and helpful. He had me try on a few different styles. And guess what fit best? The Lowa boots. Only they were lighter and slimmer than my old ones. I bought 'em and hiked in 'em that day. This is a neat shop and we easily found exactly what we needed here - large water bottles, some SPF shirts for sun protection for hiking, and socks. They have a cafe with some coffee and cookies and have tons of outdoor items and clothing and a large selection of outdoor shoes. First, let me say that I like to see all small biz succeed, especially in the current environment. We needed some hiking shirts, hats and were just looking for Sedona hiking 'memorabilia'. I thought the selection was pretty narrow and unexciting. I would have given 4 stars except for the chilly and pretty much downright unfriendly 'sales associate' - a tall girl with brown hair who could have cared less if I found anything to buy, didn't listen but liked the sound of her own voice and treated me like an inconsequential mouth breather. The owner was there and he made an attempt to answer my question. Didn't find what I was looking for - a basic smart wool shirt. Did buy an overpriced $29 youth hat. Maybe Work on the sales staff and service to the customer. read more

In regards to their retail space, the Hike House is ok. Nothing to start ranting about, but the store will have everything you need if you didn't bring your own gear. However, the service there is great if you want to ask the staff about local hikes in the area. We did exactly that after reading about the place on yelp.com. The girl that helped us was very friendly and educated us on great local hikes in the area at our level (we had a 7 year old with us). I'd recommend you visit The Hike House if you are not sure which hikes to take in Sedona. Oh, and by the way... the hikes in Sedona are Spectacular with a capital S! read more

Five stars only because more isn't possible. If you want to hike in Sedona this is your first stop. Period. Even if you've hiked here before. They'll tell you trail conditions, where crowds are, etc. if you follow their advice, YOU WILL HAVE AN AWESOME TIME. These guys know the trails. They have a great selection of gear you may have forgotten or not realized you need as well. The owner wrote a book about all the trails with reviews and tips... BUY IT. We've hiked most of the book by now and it has never led us astray. We pop in for a cookie after a hike even if we don't need anything and just hang out for a bit. Ask for Tal. He's an incredible guide, recommends the gear you need, more importantly, the gear you don't, and just takes care of you. Great place. Shop here. Yelp!, this is a real review. We were leaving Sedona for Tempe & stopped at the Hike House where I found a very nice Free Fly lightweight LS hoodie cover up - the manager was wearing the design I wanted. The staff were very helpful, patient, and gave me some other ideas. My wife also picked up a very nice lightweight T and a pair of socks. The staff were friendly enough and the prices were only about 10% higher than what you'd find online, which I consider quite fair for being a brick-and-mortar establishment and being able to try on the clothes and purchase on the spot. However, their stock/selection (especially sizing) is far too limited. I'm a pretty "average-sized" guy (just under 6' and 185 lbs), and I was looking for hiking shirts, hiking pants, and water shoes/sandals, and I was only able to find ONE thing in the store that fit me. Haven't people ever heard of the bell curve? I'm astounded by how many establishments in town only have "extra small" or "extra large" stuff in stock. Why?? Medium is called medium for a reason... Stores (including this one) need to learn to stock more of the sizes that the vast majority of people fall into... read more

Great store! I had a pair of hiking boots I absolutely hated (I think they were too small) and they did a great job of guiding me into my favorite pair of hiking boots I've ever had. They have a great collection of shoes and other hiking gear as well as basics like sunscreen and bug spray. I wanted to love this place and thought it must be awesome based on the reviews. The positive: This place has very nice quality hiking apparel for men and women. They also have some great hiking shoe brands. They're very knowledgeable about the area and their products. And the first time I was in I had really nice service from a Guy and his young helper I presumed to be his son. I would have highly recommended them at that point. Read on. The negative: Unfortunately, their customer service when I went back was pretty terrible. I went in to exchange some sunglasses that I paid $35 for and they broke literally the 2nd time I went to put them on. Not that you'd expect super duper high quality at that price point BUT certainly would expect them to last longer than that. So naturally, I went in to return or exchange them. I waited over 10 minutes (probably more like at least 15 min) for a clerk - many shoppers came in and walked around and left - STILL no Employee to be found. Several of those shoppers asked me if I knew where their Clerk was. I stood there waiting SO long that I was about to try to call the store on my phone. FINALLY a 20 something male employee SAUNTERED in and did not acknowledge me until I asked HIM if he worked there. "Yeah. What can I do for you?" He says. I explain to him - nicely esp considering how long I'd been standing in there alone - that I have waited quite some time for someone to come to the counter and so long that I was concerned enough to where I almost called the store to which he made some crappy mumbled "it wouldn't have done any good" type of comment. He looked at the sunglasses saying nothing and went to get another employee. She was at least a bit nicer/more helpful - however at that point it was a low bar. I get totally that stores are short staffed, there's burnout, employees sometimes are treated badly or unfairly, etc but don't treat a customer like that. There just isn't an excuse. In a touristy place like Sedona I get they probably don't get a ton of 'regulars' but that experience made me wish I'd just shopped at a big box store and I am definitely a supporter of supporting local. I was about to write what I thought was my first review of The Hike House -- and discovered I had written a review in late 2012. My description of The Hike House in 2012 still holds for 2018. The young clerk was very helpful in finding and describing three "easy" hikes for us. The house-made cookies were tasty -- and quite filling. And I bought another pair of hiking sox. (The Hike House had many other tempting items, but perhaps aimed at more devoted hikers than we are.) DH and I like the "local flavor of The Hike House. In fact, I am boosting my rating to five stars. Always good to see a store maintain its mission -- and even improve. This is a "must stop" when visiting Sedona. read more

Great place to find exactly what you need for hiking. I didn't buy any hiking gear this time, my goal was to get the delicious cookies I heard about from other reviews. They are delicious!! Worth the 30 minute wait to get fresh ones. I got both flavors, milk chocolate and white chocolate cranberry (both oatmeal)!! Greg Stevenson provided our group the hike tour of a lifetime! Honestly one of the best hike adventures I have been on. Not only does he have knowledge of every trail in Sedona he even knows the secret paths as well! Greg is the main operator and owner of The Hike House and he is passionate about helping all walks of life feel the presence and beauty of Sedona. He told us the love story about how Sedona got its name, how different plants can be used as medicine and how native Americans used them. He gave us an abundance of knowledge about the founding, the growth, and how Sedona became such a hot tourist spot today. Throughout the hike he gives us tips on how to save energy, keep your own hiking pace, and little tricks on how to get up and down steep ledges. Overall he was phenomenal with giving us tricks and tools on how to become better hikers. Since we had a child with us we chose an easy to intermediate hike, but it was still a very beautiful 2.5 hour hike! And the view and all the pictures you get are absolutely breathtaking. I learned that it is important to hire a tour guide to receive the best hiking experience possible! Hike House has the best and most experienced Hike guides in Sedona so you should definitely book a trip with this group! This group also has a shop where you can purchase all hiking equipment you need! They also have a nutritious Cafe where you can purchase healthy cookies and food they keeps your energized. Note: the Hiking Guide will provide you with hiking backpacks with 2 liters of water in them, they are similar to camelbacks where you can drink water while walking without having to dig through your bag! When we had Greg he gave us each a water backpack, bug repellent, and a walking metal stick/rod that made the journey more pleasant. Greg also provided us some of his wife's homemade cookies filled with antioxidants once we got to the top of our hiking location! Overall our experience was phenomenal and we plan to do another hike through this organization. read more
