I stopped by Canyon Outfitters last week...I had never been to Sedona and wanted some advice on hiking trails. I spoke with a nice guy, he was probably the owner, and he gave me and my friend some EXCELLENT ideas for cool beautiful hikes. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. The store is packed with clothes, hiking gear, etc., so if you need a rain jacket, hiking shirts or pants, maps, whatever, they have it. A well-stocked friendly place. Highly recommended. read more

Stopped in to check out walking sticks and sling bags and ended up with a sun shirt, Camelbak sling day pack, Nat Geo Arizona map and a Cotopaxi light sling purse. This weekend I'll be working outdoors in freezing temperatures. I decided I had better buy some wool socks. Canyon Outfitters is on my side of town, and Sedona these days is split into three traffic zones, so I decided to shop ultra local. I entered a charming store that reminded me of Europe, every inch of space occupied with first-class merchandise. Two enthusiastic clerks listened to my story and guided me to the sock department. After I picked out my Smartwool socks I browsed the rest of the store. The clothing was stylish. I could select from a wide variety of backpacks, sleeping bags, jackets, and shoes. There were hundreds of hats. In all, I was favorably impressed. Now I am happy that I don't have to get through the Y to find quality outdoor gear. read more

This store is a lifesaver! My husband & I bought hiking shoes here after realizing we forgot to pack our hiking boots back in Scottsdale at our hotel...oops (long day ahaha)! To be honest, I'm glad I ditched my hiking boots because high tops were so bulky for me & I ended up getting low tops which worked out great for our hike. My new shoes were light & very comfy! John helped my husband get a pair of boots that did not actually crush the poor man's 14' foot toes. A big man needs some big shoes, and not just any shoes but hiking shoes, boots for that matter. So big shout out to John, he was so helpful the second we walked in. He even brought out this hill slant tester and game changer. Gladly after 5 different shoes, my husband found "THE ONE'S" and we put them bad boys to work right after. I am happy to report that no blisters, they are broken in and we did many hikes after this purchase. I can't recall the exact model/style he went with, but take a peek inside this wonderful place . They have ALL of your hiking needs, fully stocked and organized. Not sure if they stock hiking boots for my pumba boy but he enjoyed waiting for us while we shopped. I stopped by Canyon Outfitters to pick up a few last-minute items for a backpacking trip near Sedona. The staff were very knowledgeable and helpful. I asked whether there would be water at our destination in Secret Canyon, and their answer turned out to be exactly right (a few inaccessible puddles but nothing worth drinking). They also advised us that temperatures in the canyon are about 10 degrees colder than the surrounding area. This was really good to know, and turned out to be right as well. We were prepared! The shop has a great selection of equipment and supplies for hiking and backpacking - the perfect place to stop before going on a long trip. read more

We stopped in just before they closed to purchase a head lamp. Even though they were sooo close to closing up for the day they were super kind and helpful. The gal took the time to talk us through each of the head lamp options. The pros, the cons, the things she prefers, the batteries and so much more. We tried to make a joke about being those last minute customers, and looking back I can't stand that. What a dumb joke. The point is they even encouraged us to peruse and shop around. Loved that. It was refreshing to walk into a store that knows how to cater to the outdoor community. I use to work in the outdoor industry and although it's been a minute, the basics are still the same on fit. Even with my years in that environment, my husband still hiked in cotton socks and regular walking shoes (you can lead a horse to water but.......). We hiked Boynton Canyon nevertheless to say his shoes developed a hole so in we went to find him some shoes. A knowledgeable gentleman helped us and it he did not pressure or make my husband feel silly for hiking in cotton socks but said " that's old school " . I did not catch his name but thank you..... I also had to return a top that I grabbed by mistake thinking it was a quick dry & grabbed a cotton top instead. I called & spoke to Logan who assured it was no problem and it wasn't. I returned the top and bought 3 more items!!!!! That's what happens when the staff is friendly, knowledgeable and courteous.... We will be back.... If you're in need for some hiking shoes (because you forgot yours) or some hiking shorts, this place will probably do you right. My hubby forgot his shoes so we stopped by here to grab him a pair. Since he has multiple hiking/outdoor shoes at home we wanted just a cheaper pair. We got an identical pair to what he already had, their cheapest was $130... In Sedona and in need of some outdoor gear? This is the place for it. A packed to the brim two story building staffed by friendly, helpful employees. We were assisted by two older grandma(esque) ladies but don't let their age fool you. These two spirited gals were very knowledgeable about the outdoor products they carried and they were eager to help. We had to do a bit of a search to find the business as they were listed on yelp but under clothing, shoes and accessories and not outdoor gear. Luckily a flyer at the chamber of commerce brought us awareness of their existence and a google search assisted our search for the business. The people at the gear shops in Phoenix said they weren't aware of a shop with climbing info in Sedona and I've gotten to the point that if a business doesn't pop up on yelp I think it doesn't exist. Thankfully I think they will now pop up when people research outdoor gear as they are now rightfully listed on yelp thanks to yours truly:) read more

My girlfriend and I just went in to purchase a pair of swim shoes the door was not locked when when came in we tried on a few pair and decided to purchase them. After we paid we went to leave and the door was locked. I feel as if they locked the door because they did not trust us they most likely assumed that we may steal something. We are both African American and I have a lot of tattoos. We should not be locked inside of a business because they assume we are not honest people. It was a really uncomfortable and unsettling feeling I will no longer shop here. read more

First of all, Canyon Outfitters (CO) is a friendly place. If you're going to spend money, spend it with friendly people. I've been there several times and found they have a great selection of all the things you need to hike. Today, I went in search of a sun hat and CO didn't disappoint. Overpriced. Not very welcoming or good customer service. I was looking for a backpack with my wife but I was having a hard time browsing because I was about to pee my pants. Ha! I asked if they had a restroom I could use real quick, after the unwelcoming environment I wasn't expecting them to let me use their restroom even though I was a customer. She replied, "no we don't". While my wife was picking out clothes to try on I asked to use their restroom but was denied. Since the situation was urgent I left her the store and had to drive up the street to Safeway. I returned to the store and met my wife outside. She said that the clerk mentioned that I had left. She told him , yes, he had to find a restroom. This would have, at a minimum, a chance for the clerk to apologize or at least explain why they deny customers the use of their restroom. After completing her purchase of $170 the clerk had another chance to offer a reason they deny paying customers. Again, no explanation or empathy was given or implied. So much for catering to needs of their customers. Not sorry that we won't be back. With this attitude they may, or may not, recover from their recent COVID-19 shutdown.
