Super tasty quality food, I noticed that on the menu it even tells you which farm the meat came from, or where the ice cream was made etc. The Greek Lamb and the Gammon are both brilliant. The portions are huge and I'm always left with enough food for another meal but save room for the Holly Bush sundae because you wont ever have a such a selection of tasty locally made ice cream :) The prices are great too, last time I went it was around 30quid for the 2 of us.

For mains, I have the slow-cooked shoulder of lamb, fondant potato, roast hispi cabbage, caramelised onion purée and sticky lamb jus. Really tasty lamb - its one of those where the meat is all taken off the bone and it comes to you almost like a "block" of lamb. To start, i tried the deep fried cauliflower bites with a curried mayo and the amazing cheese soufflé with cheese sauce and beetroot for my starter. The soufflé was incredible, so fluffy and light!! We were on a trip down to 'Fords of Winsford' to buy a new car and having to build up the strength to battle the 1500 cars on offer, we decided a big fat lunch had to be on the agenda! Think country inn food and you're not far off, with all sorts of pub classics like steak and kidney pudding (which my wife had and was amazing), fish and chips and more. I went for the steakburger which was tasty but that was at the 2nd attempt - the first one that they brought out was stone cold (I'd asked for it medium but this looked like it had come straight out of the fridge and onto the plate. Thankfully the manager was very good and replaced it straightaway, giving us a couple of free soft drinks as an apology. Personally - I don't think this 2nd burger was cooked massively well (but I couldn't be arsed saying anything 2nd time around) and the chef could do with maybe hitting somewhere like Manchester's Filthy Cow burger joint to see how to cook it well but juicy and the pink in the middle... Besides the burger situ and my wife and myself having to eat our meals separately I'm still giving this place a 4 star as it was a great menu, surroundings and has friendly staff.

Pheasant and pork pie was delicious, chips were good and they gave you extra gravy on the side. Great selection of ale and wine. Slightly odd atmosphere - the owners make it seem like a bit like they're doing you a favour by allowing you to be there. Bit cold. Next time I'd stay in the bar rather than the restaurant.

Very nice pub grub…read more Located a bit out of the way so you'd have to drive to it, certainly making it more of an 'eating' pub than a drinking pub, although it does also have a good range of real ales, and some slightly obscure spirits. The food is all freshly prepared, and this is obvious through the taste. The staff are very welcoming, and happy to explain what comes with any of the meals on the menu. There is also one memeber of staff who in the past used to be able to recommend a good wine without just about any meal, regardless of what each of your tabe were eating. I don't know if he still works there though.

The bar area is quiet and comforting, and again service is quick, so you're not sitting abut waiting to eat, or get a drink. The fish tank in the resturant makes a brilliant feature, and occupies your eyes whilst waiting for food. There are different specials everyday, but the core menu is worth going back for time and again. The new conservatory adds a lovely summer room, and there is a lovely selection of real ales and spirits.

Always book though especially on a Sunday because its usually busy . For some reason you dont get as much food when its busy, but still nice food. Split into restaurant and pub.
