My wife has been a resident at The Lighthouse at Lincoln for a year now. She has received exceptional care and is very comfortable at the facility. The staff is so caring and attentive to all her needs. There is nothing harder than having to place your loved one in a memory care facility. In my case I held out for as long as I physically could before placing her in a memory facility. The first day you leave your loved one is very hard. You are never sure you have made the right decision. The staff at The Lighthouse at Lincoln made me feel very comfortable leaving my wife. They communicated with me that day as to how she was doing and for the next few days before I went back to visit her. The staff communicates on how my wife is doing with every visit. They are also concerned as to how I am doing. The most important part of leaving your loved one at a memory facility is how you as the caregiver feel. After a visit I feel very relieved knowing my wife is safe and well taken care of at The Lighthouse at Lincoln. Gary H

We finally found an assisted living place for our Mom. The admissions person was wonderful and…read moreexplained the levels of care and gave us a tour of several rooms. The great thing is if Mom needs more or less care, she does not have to move! The staff just conforms to her needs, so her room is her room. She has resided at Smithfield Woods for over a year, and we are very happy with the care she is receiving. The place is more than clean- it looks like a hotel or condo and has modern rooms with spacious bathrooms/walk in showers, kitchenettes, A/C, beautiful windows/views, several dining rooms and common areas/reading areas, activities daily, and a full dining room for 3 meals a day. For an extra fee, they have a med tech who will give our Mom her meds (she has too many to keep track of herself). They always have one or more RN's on staff, a maintenance person if you need help putting up a picture, and activity staff who check on the residents frequently during the day to encourage socialization. They have cleaning service who keep our Mom's room neat and clutter-free since she uses a walker/wheelchair. The office is always open during the day if you have a question. Now I am particular about floors/smells, and being a nurse myself, I appreciate the cleanliness and fresh-smelling air of the hallway and common areas. The aides are so friendly and let me say- we all know how understaffed this whole state is when it comes to nursing facilities! The aides go above and beyond for their residents here. Our Mom is safe here and that is the most important! I tell many friends and family about Smithfield Woods for their elderly loved ones. Hopefully many more people will go take a tour and see how nice it is here!

You can spend days and weeks looking for the right place for an elderly friend or relative, but once you look at Tockwotton, the choice is obvious. Challenging perhaps on pricing depending on one's means, but it's worth it to me to place my mom in an environment that makes her WANT to live (and eat and engage) and not have her in a 'cost-effective' facility the makes her NOT want to live. And Michael and Monica have been outstanding. We are just starting the process and are hoping it all works out. But bottom line is, if she ends up somewhere else, Tockwotton was our first (and really only) choice. Anything else will be second and not what we hoped for. Tim

When you submit your application, they proceed to do a deep dive into your entire financial history. You had better be rich (or close to it) because they want verification you have the means to cover the cost of caring for your loved one for a minimum of 3 years! My mother-in-law was a resident at Wingate Residences on the East Side for 2.5 years - for most of…read morethat time in a lovely apartment on the Assisted Living side. Our family was impressed with the caring floor staff, activities, meals, grounds, pool, and convenient location. When COVID hit, the facility did as much as they could to keep everyone safe during incredibly challenging circumstances. Unfortunately, near the end of Mom's time at Wingate, she had a sudden medical crisis that resulted in her being moved to the Memory Care side and put on hospice, just at the time a new Nursing Director named Misty Keough came on board there. Misty exhibited a very troubling ignorance about hospice, end of life care, and Alzheimer's. She was also horribly antagonistic toward our family and the hospice personnel. (Her unprofessional behavior was witnessed not just by our family and the hospice nurses, but also our private aides and members of her own floor staff.) In conversation with our family, Misty was demonstrably contemptuous of hospice care. On various occasions she referred to hospice, pro-hospice people, and the use of comfort meds on one's deathbed - as "euthanizers." Her gatekeeping behavior resulted in the truly horrible and unnecessary suffering of our mom on her deathbed. (Misty literally refused our aide's and family's requests and pleas for comfort meds on the last day of our Mom's life - until the hospice nurse forcefully confronted Misty. Misty actually threatened to kick me out of the building that day, when I reported our mom in distress.) In the days preceding Mom's death, when she could no longer swallow, the hospice nurse left specific orders to quit force-feeding her because it caused her to aspirate. Misty overruled that order and told her staff to continue - resulting in painful episodes of Mom choking and vomiting. The reason I'm not leaving a single star on this review is that to Corporate Wingate's credit, when their leaders found out about Misty's actions, they took the matter extremely seriously. The VP Chris Stack responded immediately - reassuring our family that Wingate as a company was not anti-hospice, and that the entire staff at Wingate would undergo extensive training so that this situation would never happen again. The Exec. Director Vincent Messina, to his credit, was also immediately receptive to hospice training for Misty and his staff. Last bit of advice - for families looking specifically for Memory Care - I would suggest you look at the Wingate Blackstone facility nearby instead. It's recently renovated, has two levels of memory care, and has a proper medical director/doctor on site.

My husband entered Atria as a Respite patient last Feb he was only suppose to be there for a month…read more He did okay the first two weeks he was there. The only reason he was there is I was going to have hip surgery and I needed to make sure he was being taken care of while I went into rehab after surgery. After the second week he became less capable than when he went in. My thoughts on that are their was very little interaction between the aides and the patients. While every one was headed down to breakfast the attendants weren't paying attention and my husband fell. He did a face plant and required stitches on his face. No one came to his aide when they saw him (as they say) running. I know he wasn't able to run. After that fall it was a seriously rapid decline. He became less mobile and the attendants said they couldn't take care of him any more. They wanted him out as of yesterday. Now here I am on crutches less than a month after surgery out with my daughter and son looking for a new facility. Everyone knows how long it takes to find a good facility. Especially now that my husband had declined. The head nurse and the director of the facility kept calling and threatening me that I needed to hire private nurses to take care of him. I did my best and contacted the VA. They were great. The VA did send in some aides but the aides at Atria weren't cooperating with the VA aides. Atria went and hired nurses and said I had to pay for them. They said their aides needed help. Every time I spoke to one of the hired nurses they said they couldn't get any of the aides to help them. That was the reason they were hired to assist the aides from Atria.My son was called numerous times to go over to Atria and either get my husband in or out of a chair and many times get him up from bed. They left him in bed and he missed breakfast. I wouldn't recommend Atria to my worst enemy. One woman actually slept on the sofa instead of in her room. They left her there because it was easier for them. I'm sure the woman gave them a hassle but that is their job to assist the patient and make sure they are safe. What if there was a fire and they couldn't find her. They didn't spend much time with the patients. Especially at night they would get them ready for bed very early and then just let them sit in front of the TV while the person who was to be interacting with the patient was talking on her cell phone. I hope no one else makes the same mistake I did with their loved one. When you interview Atria they sound perfect. Part of the family they say. Don't believe them. By the way I didn't mean to hit the star. I definitely don't recommend them at all.
