Went to Home Depot today and was amazed at their selection of home remodeling stuff they had compared to Lowe's. Every department I went to had someone right there to help. Not one time did I have to look for someone to help me. Dan in the lighting dept. Jeff and Tina helped in the bath dept. and Todd helped us in the pro dept. checking out. Lowes might offer a little better discount, but customer service was hands down a 10+. I will always drive over the mountain to shop here! Ps. My first time in a Home Depot was this past weekend, on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon. State College has had a Lowe's for quite some time, but Home Depot just opened within the past month or so. I walked in with my mind set on comparing this store to my prior experiences at Lowe's, but I feel that's a valid comparison since they are direct competition and located directly across the street! The parking lot wasn't very full. The store itself is very clean and well-organized, as it should be considering it's brand new! My experience was so-so. I needed two specific items, and was looking for a few other random things: Wood Lattice: I needed something cheap and thin, just to barricade a balcony from our suicidal cat (ok, it's not really suicide, but it's quite a jump!). I found the lattice, but needed someone to cut it for me. It took time to find someone to ask for help, and eventually I was told that they cannot cut lattice because their saw is too big and it would just rip the lattice to shreds. I was a little surprised, but I got good help from a woman who helped me pick out a fine-toothed saw so I can do the job myself. Zip-ties: Again, it took three people before someone was able to locate which aisle they were in. I thought this was a pretty common item, but the fact that they were unsure could just be unfamiliarity with the new store (but I would have hoped they'd be familiar by now). Everyone seemed to think they'd be near the rope, but they ended up being in the electrical section. (I guess that makes sense, if you're tying cords together.) Window treatments: Very inadequate selection of curtains or drapes. Slightly better selection of blinds and shades. It seems that their "custom" selections are broader, but I did not want to spend the time or money to order something custom-made. Rugs: I did not need carpeting or rugs, but they're located near the window treatments and I got to browsing. They had a very eclectic collection of rugs and my friend and I had fun sorting through them all! I'm sure there is a pattern or fabric type there to please just about anyone. Check-out: Very satisfying. No line, the clerk was quick and helpful, and someone had handed me a "$10 off a purchase of $75 or more" coupon as I was wandering throughout the store, so I was able to use that. Other details: In general, I didn't find anything exceedingly special about this Home Depot. I wanted to be wowed but I wasn't. I felt like Lowe's would have had a wider selection of some basic items (like wall hooks) or more knowledgeable employees. I don't think their prices were all that different for the things I was purchasing. I plan to go back after another month or so when I have more time to explore. I especially wanted to check out their Lawn & Garden section but did not have time. read more

When I visited the local State College store, they said they did not have the lawn tractorI wanted to buy and bring home on my trailer. They said they very recently had sold out and didn't expect any more. I located one at the Altoona store (35 mi away), and agreed with the people there to pay $79 extra to have it delivered from there. When it arrived, I learned it came from the State College store after all. I asked the staff at the State College store (Meredith and Mark) about the $79 delivery fee, which I had not intended to pay from the local store, and the staff was happy to arrange with the Altoona store to refund the $79. Apologizing about the confusion about local inventory, the people involved were happy to make things right in the end. read more

Ordered garage door opener & installation on-line and paid for it. Website indicates an installer would contact me in 2 days. No contact for a week and then only after I went to store and talked to front desk staff and also had to wait and talk to staff at windows and doors, wasting at least 20 mins. of my time. Came away with the name of the installer to call. When contact was finally made with installer, he refused to install unless I signed approving of the installation first. Says many people he did work for wouldn't sign approval so he didn't get paid. Also said he lives at least 2 hours out of State College, so who fixes it when it breaks? Planning to cancel order but such a waste of my time. read more

I just moved to State College, and needed random items - mostly lightbulbs. They had a nice selection, and the staff were knowledgable. This is not like the Home Depot stores I'm used to - everyone was friendly and willing to help! I'll definitely be back. read more

I asked them how they were different from Lowes, they noted that they were more friendly. I think the real difference the the direction you turn, and that they have popcorn. serve yourself and you will find out how unfriendly they can be! but, I like the popcorn, and will go back! read more

Try shopping back at Home Depot after a couple of years not shopping there because of they lack of employees availability and interest to help customers. And it was still the same! I needed help in hardware department and no one was around. I had to roam the store to find someone, then I met up with 3 employees in lumber area that were talking and laughing with someone. I waited for them to finish up conversation or at least notice my waiting, but they didn't. I mentioned Hey I need some help. I was told that I had to wait! Their socializing was a priority!! read more

The staff was friendly and not too pushy with trying to sell things. They seem to have a bigger display of lighting and tile when compared to Lowe's. However, their selection of appliances seems smaller than Lowe's. read more

I always have a great experience at Home Depot. The employees are so very friendly and helpful.Always there to help you find what you need and to make sure you get value for you money. I was there today to purchase a new grill and the employee Tom was kind enough to point out that if I waited to buy the one i was looking at, it was going on sale on Thursday so I could save even more money. Luckily the manage Bill happened by and overheard our conversation and offered me the sale price on the spot. Now that is customer service.. Thanks to a great store team! read more

I went to Home Depot to purchase patio furniture. After 25 mins of waiting for an associate to answer my questions, I decided to leave. As I was leaving I saw an employee standing nearby and asked him about the patio furniture that was on sale. Tyler (Home Depot employee) told me "Oh it isn't on sale, it is advertised on sale to get people into the store. I guess it's a marketing thing". REALLY!!! OMG-- I went home and ordered furniture on overstock.com. The customer service was terrible!! read more

I love shopping at this store. Everywhere you turn there is an employee asking if you need help. I find it very satisfying. The employees seem more interested in helping customers then stocking shelves or other tasks. I'll be shopping at this store more often then lowes. Go to lowes if you want to be ignored. Home depot even price matches and beats lowes prices by ten percent. So why would I waste my time over at lowes?? read more

My husband and I went to purchase a new washer at Home Depot on 11/15/19. When we arrived at the appliance section of the store there was an employee working with another customer. I proceeded to look at the washers while took care of the other customer. The other customer got up and walked away and he look6at me and said "what do you need I have a few min6to talk to you." Strike 1. I explained to him what I wanted , then my husband showed up and asked him a question about different models and his answer was "I don't know, do you realize how many appliances I deal with?" Strike 2. My husband and I looked at a few washers and turned around to ask more questions.The employee then walked away from us and helped another customer. Strike 3. We went to Lowes and had a great employee help us make a decision on a new washer. We spend thousands of dollars every year at Home Depot. We will be rethinking our purchasing of home needs in the future. read more

I recently stood at the customer service desk for approximately ten minutes trying to return some unused wood. I had placed the wood on the return counter. The lone customer service representative was simultaneously using two phones. She was laughing and joking with someone on the business phone. She was also playing on her cell phone. She remained on the phone throughout the ten minutes I stood waiting for service. The Home Depot customer service never once acknowledged my presence or those other customers waiting behind me. This went on and on for several minutes. I ended up gathering up my wood and leaving. I like Home Depot products. I do NOT like the terrible customer service at the State College Home Depot. I filed a complaint with the 1 800 Home Depot Customer Service number. I was subsequently contacted by Store Manager, Bill. He offered me a $25.00 gift card. No thanks. read more

Just had to give a shout-out to the kitchen design department. Everyone there was helpful, but Ken went above and beyond! He helped us re-think our kitchen as well as select items when we were in a real pinch (our kitchen flooded and insurance needed a bid ASAP)--not pushy, very thoughtful. He even actually worked to save us money! So happy we got to work with him. read more

I have been in other Home Depot stores and they are all the same and no different than Lowes except for the State College store # 6841. the difference I assume is the local management of this particular store. From the time you walk in till the time you walk out the employees treat you like you are the only customer they ever had. You don't see this very often any more.
