Thought everything was okay until I am traveling and am told on the day rent is due it needs to be in cash. We leased from her for years and she lied a lot, deferred necessary maintenance and caused many many problems for our family. The company's communication isn't that great. Also, Verifast, the screening company is horrible and apparently lazy. It's amazing I was denied because they couldn't verify employment when I provided them bank statements showing deposits as well as paystubs and the workday number and employer id. Oh and I have immaculate credit. I did receive a message stating they didn't receive my bank statements so I uploaded them again..twice. So the whole process was suspicious. I've never been denied and my employment has always been verifiable. I will be requesting a refund for the app fee via disputing the charge. My son has lived in a Home Shop condo for three years. Every request has been handled on time and with urgency. Especially when the AC went out in the middle of the summer! All of the maintenance requests matter and are taken seriously. They follow up to make sure their vendors do their job and everything is in working order. *DISCLAIMER THIS WILL BE A LONG REVIEW* This review is to inform any future renters of this management company. I've had THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER with this management company. I was interested in a property and initially contacted this management company. The first times we spoke were brief, and the only information that was provided was that of the realtor and to apply once I was ready. The agent was extremely kind and professional and did his job of showing me the place, during this process there were some minor cosmetic things that stood out to me but nothing out of the ordinary that would stop me from starting the process. I later found out that there was an application submitted prior to mine and I decide continue the process and see if this applicant was approved or not. Once it was my turn for the application process I was very responsive and provided all additional information in a timely manner (1 hr). I was notified the owner wanted an additional deposit and I agreed with no hesitation and was ready to get the process started. I was asked a move-in date and responded with the appropriate time frame. Let me be clear that I am a first time renter, and as a first time renter there were still a few minor questions regarding the paperwork, deposits and the property itself. Again, small cosmetic things which I made made the realtor aware of and he advise the management property would be the best resource to ask. I was asking these questions and communicating with the management team when I was advise the deposit was due next business day at noon, to which again I had absolutely no problem in paying. Here's where things take a sour note, I wanted my roommate to view the property very briefly and I was going to pay 30 minutes before the time frame provided I was. AGAIN, I was fully to committed moving this was just me being me and asking questions. The owner then advise that realtors do not show properties multiple times (keep in mind I've only seen the place once) and was told that they are paid minimal for a rental, so this was not possible at this time. From my initial meeting with the realtor he advised he had no problem with showing the property again. The owner decided to jump to conclusions and said "So if you are not prepared to move forward we have to move onto the other applicants." I responded 'I am and from the previous message I will pay by noon next business day." I was now asked if I could pay now to which I responded this was not what was stated in a previous message. In addition to that, there were minor things I wanted to document before I would officially sign. As a first time renter I wanted to protect myself and ensure the owner was notified of these things, so when the lease would end we wouldn't have any issues. And I can obtain my full deposit back. The owner advised she was sorry that I was unaware of the process and it was not clear and she would move forward with another applicant. At this point I was confused as I was under the impression that a management company is both for renters and owners, apparently this is not the case. I wanted to call the owner and clarify the miscommunication. To play devil's advocate our communication had been through text messages and I can see how things may be lost in translation in a text. From our phone conversation the owner was rude, abrasive, short with answers and didn't provide a clear answer as to why I was being refused after being approved. I was only told that they "could tell we weren't going to get along". From there the owner decided to terminate the call (she hung up on me). I wanted to call back as this seemed unfair, I provided all details in timely manner, I was willing to pay the deposit at the advised time frame and I had been very responsive throughout the process. I was finally able to speak with the owner after calling for two times and she so kindly (I'm being sarcastic) told me she only had '3 minutes' to speak with me. At this point I also received a message asking me to stop harassing their office (keep in mind I only called 5 times at most with no answer). It was here I realized I did NOT want to engage in a business relationship with this woman. Her approach to renters is that of a transactional form not in the form of assisting her client to find find their future home. I understand the initial concern regarding my application; however, the way the whole situation was handled was extremely unprofessional and rude by the management company. I want to say that this could have been avoided if the owner decided to provide support and a chance to hear my questions regarding the move-in process. I would like to suggest to other renters to think twice before you go with this management company. The properties are beautiful, but the management company is lacking in several aspects. I spoke with Michele about renting my property and she was eager and energetic to rent it, her first impression was great. After I signed the contract and paid $300 application fee, I never spoke to her again. Two months later my property still wasnt rented and come to find out she had taken pictures of my place. She used pictures of another condo in the same complex. I asked her to cancel the contract and she charged me another $599 so that I can get my keys back. If you're considering renting a property managed by the Home Shop be aware of what you're getting into. First of all, they will do anything to make sure that you won't get your security deposit back and to make sure that you pay even more than the deposit when you move out. I moved into their rental house will old nasty carpet and when I moved out after 4 years they didn't accept my carpet cleaning bill and still charged me for carpet cleaning expenses. Then they gave me a bill that was actually a "quote" (not even a bill) from a company with every little thing they could find including things that were broken upon moving in that I had mentioned in the notes when I signed the lease. It was almost impossible to even document every little thing wrong in a 4 bedroom house when you move in and then prove that photos you took were from the time you moved in. If I would have known, I would have written notes and photographed every single little thing that was broken or cracked and made them sign off on it before signing the lease in the first place. When you try to prove anything, they are super rude to you. We had an issue with a tree root growing into the sewer line and they wouldn't pay to have it fixed completely for at least 3 years so the toilet would back up sewage into the kitchen every 9 months. When I called about it, they were rude to me and I really didn't appreciate having to clean up sewage and throw away my own things that got ruined in the floods. When I wrote reviews on other websites about them, they of course deny everything and then they tried to make baseless claims about me in retaliation and even posted a PDF with my personal information publically. I have never been treated so terribly after paying fully on time for 4 years living in a rental property. We bought a house so we wouldn't have to deal with garbage slum lord rental companies like this ever again. I'm sure they will try to retaliate in some way trying to make up something, but why would I waste my time writing all of this if I wasn't angry about what happened? If you're thinking of renting from them, think twice, they are not on the side of renters at all. If there is a big problem they won't make the owner fix it. They'll just let it keep breaking for years while they leave you to clean up the sewage that has covered the kitchen and won't send a professional cleaning crew to clean up after it so you possibly live with sewage still spilled in your house. Don't expect to get your security deposit back at all or anything you accidentally over pay them. They make up fake "invoices" from companies for the carpet, handyman, lawn care and more then they make sure that the amount comes to over the amount that you paid for the security deposit. They charge you for things that were broken before you moved in even if you have photos. They put charges on there like $8 per lightbulb because the lightbulbs don't "match" The owner is horribly rude and when you're upset about a problem with the house she threatens to evict you even when you have a perfect record of paying rent just because she's mad that you're not happy with things happening in the house. She'll probably reply here with a rude message back because that's how she deals with everything then I'll probably get a threatening email. read more

Re: The Flood Please be sure to see my previous review to understand what this big bunch of lies is all about. She is an audacious liar. She doesn't want to fix things or have a good relationship with her tenants, she wants to "win" and dominate. This is libel (slander) by Michele Brown to even attempt to publicly blame us for the house flooding and par for the course in the way you'll also be treated if you lease from her. She is a DANGER to your family. The cheapskate owner had hooked up a refrigerator filter that was supposed to be INSIDE the refrigerator (It was designed to be indwelling in a refrigerator, nothing else) under the sink and ran about 30 feet of plastic tubing under the sink, through the wall and into the refrigerator. The reason he did that was because the refrigerator was so old (about 12-15 years old) that it had no place for an indwelling filter so he jimmy rigged his own system the redneck way. The filter was supposed to be changed every 6 mo but was 3-4 years old when we moved in. Because it was taped under the sink, we never even knew it existed. Michele Brown told us to never use the ice machine when we did the walk through so we never used it. Yes, the house flooded, but how are we, as tenants responsible for this? We suffered greatly and because she's vindictive, she tried to punish us by delaying repairs even more than she usually did. (She did this by telling us that people were coming and they were no shows many times and when they eventually came, they said this was the first time she had called them. THIS IS HER WAY and she did this MANY TIMES. See other people saying the same thing. My dying mother came to visit us and she could not stay in the house because Michele lied about sending someone to repair the air conditioning in the 120 degree heat for a few weeks so her visit was cut very short. Thanks Michele Brown! There was never a "last straw". We were not evicted. In fact ,we stayed in the house for months after the flood because she lied and said they would send us to a hotel while they did repairs and strung us along for months lying and promising fixes that never came. Unfortunately for me, this flood came when my mother was dying of a terminal illness and these were her last days. I had a choice to make: Wait for repairs that Michele was promising and have more time with her or move and have less. What would you do? After we camped in our own house for months waiting on repairs without any compensation, we still felt sorry for the owner (Undeserved, apparently) and made every attempt to leave the house in as perfect condition as possible. We spent $1000 on a cleaning crew after having been mistreated and put through a nightmare.we still did what we felt was right. We fully expected that we would get our deposit back less about $400 because that is the highest we were quoted for sod for the whole yard. We were only responsible for 2/3 of the back yard. We were not responsible for any more of it because her workmen dug up the yard searching for the septic tank had not been cleaned in over a decade (another negligence of the owner) and the house smelled like sewage.(They never found it but we moved out) After we left... What did Michele do? She firstly did not send us anything for months. She's supposed to give it back within 30 days. When we inquired about our deposit, she claimed not to know our new address. Then she sent me a BILL for thousands of dollars. She made fake, price gauging estimates for work that was never done. She claimed we had stolen screens, had stolen a closet door many other lies. What would we do with them? We disputed these in writing and also asked for actual receipts. She said she did not have to give them to me and she has done all she legally has to do and to never contact her again. Then, that very day, she put these charges on our credit. This is what she is going to do to you too. The problem Michele has with her clients, besides being a beastly liar, is that she totally lacks empathy towards them and once you sign the lease, she does not feel like she has to do anything for you. She's resentful of you placing demands on her and has a militant attitude towards her clients, which she brags about to her friends on Facebook. 1. See where she is bragging that she is going to give someone a 30 day notice and have the last laugh. I wonder what the client was "threatening" her about. I am guessing unmade repairs, because that is Michele Brown's specialty. By the way: It's illegal to evict someone for asking for repairs. If she evicted you for complaining about repairs, sue her. 2. See her brag about how she squashed another bug, 3. See her complaining about a homeless pregnant woman on the streets begging. 4. See where she is being sued by a previous tenant. People..you need to do the right thing if she has wronged you. It is a moral imperative to protect other people, Do you get it yet? read more

I am so happy I found the people at the Home Shop. The agent that met me to show me properties was enthusiastic to help me. she did an amazing job and found me the a perfect home. Fernando helped me with my application and all the paperwork. He was very professional and fast at what he does. I was amazed on how fast everything was approved and how fast I got my keys. Michelle helped me with all my paperwork to get my keys. She was amazing as well. everyone I dealt with was happy and willing to help me. I don't think I could find a better management company. I'm relieved to know I will be taking care of in my rental. Thank everyone at The Home Shop! Update: I am concerned with the unit I am in. Everything is falling apart and I can't live like this anymore. When I told them I was moving and renewing my lease they sent me an unprofessional email back. All I said was I was leaving due to the condition of the property and lack of interest to repair it. They responded with all the repairs that did make and the money that went into it. I had 6 Maintenance requests in the 12 months I lived in this condo. Including a broke washer, Broke AC, and the water heater broke and leaked all over the garage. This was all fixed promptly. When I asked them to send someone out to fix the sliding doors I was told I had to pay 150.00. This was an issue when I moved in but I had no idea they would get that much worse over 12 months. I am now moving out and hope they don't screw me on my deposit. I found another rental and want to move ASAP but for some reason, they can get the email to the new company. They are the property management for my Rapid Cash location on Cheyenne and Buffalo. When ever I have any issue with the property they respond with in 24 hrs or less. I have had several issues with homeless people and other tenants using our garbage cans not keeping it clean. They have provided a closed in cage with lock to ensure are area is kept clean. They have also cleaned up any graffiti that was done to our building as well. Michele is definitely an amazing person to work with and gets the job done. read more

If I could give it 0 stars I would The worst mistake I have made yet. First time my partner and I lived on our own. The experience has been horrible because of Michel Brown and others employed under him. My boyfriend has a pit bull and because of that we had to put a double deposit down which was 1800. Our first day at the house there was weeds up to my knees and there was two dying bushes. We picked this place because it was affordable for us. So after a week of living there I get a call from Michele telling me I need to pull the weeds In the front yard or else I will be charged home association fees I told him they were there before we moved in and it's not fair for me to be charged he said it's my responsibility now and I would be charged if it's not pulled and for me to take a picture and send it to him when I was finished Our water heater wasn't working properly. We had no running hot water for almost a month. They wouldn't answer our phone calls, messages or emails. Then I get a text saying "why aren't you answering your phone focus plumbing is trying to reach you" I had no miss calls or messages from anyone. We were taking cold showers in the winter for almost a month before they fixed the problem. Our lease was expiring so I wrote a letter to give our 30 day notice. I call to try and setup an appointment I left messages with the Secretary I left messages on the voicemail. 2 weeks before we were to move out I see people taking pictures of our house. The day we are suppose to return the keys they said we didn't give our 30 day notice This place has caused me a great deal of stress and anxiety. This was one of the worst experiences of my life. Trusted that this company would look after my property and after paying them 10% of my rent received for years. The property was returned to me with thousands of dollars in repairs needed and after speaking to a friend in law enforcement they told me that all signs led them to believe that there had been a "grow room" in my downstairs bedroom (the vents were tampered with, electrical was pulled from the wall and all paint had been stripped from the walls) When asked about the damages I was told "we can't live with them". She must have not realized, as it's on my Drivers License, my middle name is Chris.. and she also doesn't remember meeting me TWICE and being extremely pleasant as I was handing over the checks for the house, then after that, being the worst person I've ever done business with with no regard for the law, or understanding of how to communicate and be amicable. He is communicative, caring, and trustworthy. Since Covid, he has regularly checked up on us. He's amazing, and if you are renting with any other property manager, you are missing out. I turned in everything I was supposed to my landlord who is a private owner seller he never received verification letter and when I tried to give them another email to send verification form they denied me and said owner picked another applicant. It didn't take long for it to be rented at a reasonable market price. Yearly walk through inspections with pictures of my property sent to me for review by "The Home Shop." I was advised on what needed update and was provided a monthly invoice. When washer, dryer or any equipment failure "The Home Shop" handled it through my home rental insurance. From day one. Michelle with the home shop nv has been a fantastic manager. Over the 5 years that I lived at the apartment I rented I have never had to wait more than a day or two to have any maintenance issues taken care of. Any time that I called about any concerns, even if they were trivial. Michelle and Fernando always took the time to talk to me about the options and what they were able to do. I also understand what they do is difficult. They are stuck in the middle and have to follow the law first, but also try and keep tenants happy, but are also limited by what the owners will allow them to do as far as renovations. When I moved out last month. I got every dime of my deposit back. Here is a tip to those that are worried about getting their deposit back. Leave it in the same condition it was when you moved in. Clean it thoroughly, have the carpets professionally cleaned. Replace the lightbulbs that are missing or burned out. I mean really, think about it. If you owned a home that you had rented and you had to pay to do all of these things because your renter left garbage or you had to pay to have it cleaned so that it could be rented again, it would only be fair that you deduct those expenses from the deposit. I M not surprised at all by all the bad reviews .Time and time again I call the and get the answering machine .I put in a work order in September of last year(2021) about a leakage in my daughters room (she's only 2 years old ),and a rod in the gas being corroded .While the response to the gas was with 48 hours ,no one ever came to fix the leakage in my daughters room.When maintenance is given a notice they are required to look at all issues on the work order .So my thoughts are that the same person that replaced the gas tank was not the same person to look at the leakage in the room (nor did they ask about any other Maintnence problems ) .We then reached out again (September 2021) and the women I spoke to said she would get on it as well as give me some information about some other on going issues on the property .I was glad to hear it was being fixed .It is now January of 2022 and not only do I now have growing mold in between that of my bathroom and my daughters room ,but I just spoke with Michele that start the conversation with me by saying "okay ,I don't even know who you are ..." later to tell me in such rude in unprofessional converstion that "You always call being very rude and unprofessional ." ,yet she didn't know who I was .I will be taking action against this company for AAAALLLL the rude and unprofessional negligence to me ,my family ,and poor property owners home by this management company .Just one of the many issues I've had with this company . read more

I had to leave a parting review for The Home Shop. Michele as well as her staff were nothing but professional and kind to me in all the time I stayed in my rental. My requests for maintenance were fixed and my emails returned with professionalism. If I needed to rent again, I would always contact Michele as my experience was great. read more

This is by far the worst property management company. They are rude, unprofessional and the business is poorly run.

The home Shop led by Michelle Brown have been taking care of my properties for about 6 years now. Michele and her staff always on top of collecting rent, following through when the tenant needs repairs and attention ( most of my tenants stay beyond the 1 year lease which means they are happy) I would highly recommend The Home Shop to any investor. read more

Been at a meridian unit for only 2 weeks and have had the apartment flooded 3 times. Not only did they refuse to give me a courtesy cleaning but they accused me of lying about the flooding and are CHARGING ME for plumbing fees! Apparently having running water streaming out of the pipes in the wall and running through the entire entryway of the unit isn't a "flood". I had to squeegee the water out of the apartment myself and clean the floors each time it happened. At one point during one of my phone conversations with Michele I actually had to say "can I speak?" TEN TIMES. When I complained about the poor customer service (accusing me of lying, talking over me on the phone and through text messages, refusing to show any sympathy let alone even listen to what I had to say) and that I wouldn't have rented from them had I known they speak to customers like this, Michele responds to me with "Lets do this. You move. I am giving you 30 days notice today. You are welcome to find another rental. Thank you." I'm not sure if this is how the home shop operates or just Michele but this is just absurd. Michele is not just unprofessional but is truly a miserably evil, disgustingly vile human being. read more
