My experience here was absolutely phenomenal, I walked in not knowing anything but the book i research as a new homeschool mom and Amber helped me answer every question and more. Then Karen came and introduced me to more options that she also has used and Randy sealed it in with a golden stamp allowing me to find everything i could have ever wanted for our 1st year of homeschooling. If you're a homeschooling parent like I am - then this is absolutely the place for you... There's never ending curriculum to choose from - both new AND used! It's so easy to spend hours upon hours diving into the many choices of learning and teaching material. With so many options - you're likely only going to need to stop one place! In the event you get confused, overwhelmed, or just don't know where to begin - the staff are so knowledgeable it's not even funny. I've asked many questions on this journey and not once have they not been able to point me in the right direction or give an educated recommendation. Sometimes though, you may need to take that with a grain of salt, because as with most things, folks have preferences. From manipulatives to textbooks and supplemental resources and games - you really can find it all here. The best part is that when you move on to the next phase in your homeschooling journey - you can sell the books right back! Granted it won't be what you originally paid for it, but you can certainly reduce your OOP expenses in the process and use that towards your next step/curriculum. The reason for the lack of a 5th star and really my only con can be chalked up to one of the younger staff members. I've had the displeasure of dealing with a very sarcastic and rude male staff member to the point that I've had to return the same attitude just to get through the experience. Yes, ignorance exists, but when you have so many people cross your path in one day - I'd highly recommend softening your tone a bit and be appreciative that in the world of Amazon and the World Wide Web that we still choose to support your establishment. Visit here just to pick up a book, for a small book club, and picked up a couple others, on a indecisive mood, just in case. When asked about the return policy I was told that they are a book store, not a "Loan bookstore" (says the older heavy guy). Great selection of new curriculum. Used is hit or miss. Helpful but busy staff. The store is very cluttered which makes my anxiety go a bit nuts. Pricing is on the fair to higher side, depending on the item. I think the Houston area is in desperate need of this type of store but sadly I will not be back. read more

We have been going here for almost 20 years now - back when they were off of Judiway St in Houston. We went to our first informational meeting for homeschool in 2004 in their store. So thankful for the Swirsky family during those early years and glad they have withstood the test of time. We go at least twice a year to take our used curriculum to sell and purchase new things. A lady was very rude to my son who was just sitting and waiting for me to finish shopping. He tires easily so he wanted to sit and He can not talk and couldn't tell her he was just waiting for me. He was not causing a disruption to anyone. I'm very unhappy with how we were treated. I did not purchase anything and Will not return. read more

Place is difficult to find, if you're coming from Mills, Ann Lane doesn't have a street sign. But once you find the place and get inside, the friendly staff and large selection of new and used textbook, activity books, and learning games will keep your mind on the books. Staff was very helpful, both on the phone and at the store. Even better, we were able to get the textbook my sister needed used, at a considerable discount from new books! I only wish the place was a little easier to find. Not much signage out front, so drive slowly and keep your eyes open so you don't miss the entrance! read more

North Houston is a great place to homeschool. We've had yet another successful homeschool year thanks, in part, to The Homeschool Store. There is just so much curriculum and the staff have homeschooled their own children as well. I love the fact that they have a wide variety of classical curriculum to chose from with my favorites being from Well Trained Mind and Classical Academic Press. One of the staff members here graciously helped me choose a classical writing curriculum for next year. Looks like we are sticking with this homeschool gig long term and its nice knowing that this store is here when I need it. read more

Will not budge on a Return policy that is very cumbersome to their customers. They won't even allow store credit for untouched books! If you don't have a receipt, they don't help you. read more

I love this place. I can get lost in the selection of all the books and get carried away and buy things I don't even need. The staff is friendly and I appreciate how they do not let the kids run crazy. They are aware of what is going on in the store. Every time I call to see if they have a book they are extremely helpful and pleasant over the phone. The only downside to this store is when you go in your data/phone doesn't work. But if you do your homework on what you need when you go there it isn't an issue. read more

THE best source in Houston/NW Harris County for new and used homeschool curricula. We've been shopping with Randy Swirsky and his family for more than a decade and our four kids have been able to have the best and latest in curricula because we had a local resource. He and his staff are super knowledgeable and have kept me from purchasing things I might otherwise have bought based on what I told them I needed for a particular child. I finally got around to driving across town to visit The Homeschool Store. I was politely greeted upon entering, and asked for an obscure curriculum and the really helpful staff lit up and walked me over to the section I needed. This place is huge. The biggest benefit is, despite getting a million recommendations for different curriculums from HS groups or friends, there is no substitute for holding the actual book in your hand, flipping through, and looking at it yourself. Huge selection, both new and used. Will be back! read more
