You either purchase from their "bar" in the lobby, or from the mini bar in the room. Neither of us are drinkers so it didn't affect us, but they charged us for a bottle of wine that we didn't take! If you want to stay there, check your charges when you get home.

Peace Be Still served our purposes, providing two nights' comfortable and restful sleep. Easy to find and locate. Nothing fancy, it's an older roadside motel. Blue tarp covering a sizable portion of the roof doesn't inspire confidence upon pulling up to the place, but that didn't cause any problems. As for our room, the plumbing worked, the electricity worked, the AC worked (warm summer season stay), the mini refrigerator worked, and the staff was friendly, personable, and professional. No bugs, no insects, no creepy-crawlies, no smells, no odors, no mold, no mildew. No problems or issues! Rates were reasonable. It's not a five-star facility, or even a four-star, but it is what it is and makes no pretenses about it. If we wanted to be picky and overly critical, there was no microwave in the room, my wife thought the beds were a little too soft (they were okay with me), and she also found the water not to her liking either in taste or smell (it's well water; geeez, remember, you're out in the country! she's a city girl). However, here at Four Chimneys Inn, we loved it so much, we asked if we could stay another night, and they said YES ! Our first night was spent in a red and yellow decorated room, which was very spacious and comfortable. The bed and pillows were super comfy ! It was room #11 and on the first floor. Our second night was spent next door in #10, and those colors were creams, blues and muted gray. For some reason, my camera picked up mostly the gray and left very little color to view, which is weird, because there was a lot of blue, which I actually preferred to the red and yellow room. The room was perhaps a bit smaller, but it was still VERY spacious and more than enough room for the 2 of us. Again, the bed and pillows were super comfy. I think I liked this second room more, if nothing else, than because of the colors. Blues, grays and creams just spoke to me more than reds and yellows. I felt more at home, I guess. Both rooms had fireplaces, but in disgusting 90+ degree heat/humidity, no thank you. On the first night of our stay, the inn's restaurant was closed, but when we unexpectedly extended our stay by one night, that also opened the possibility of dining in-house, which thrilled our tired bodies like you wouldn't believe. We didn't feel like doing anymore driving, so we stayed put and ended up having an elegant dinner at Four Chimneys Inn. Breakfast the next morning was included with the price of each night's stay, but we only availed ourselves to breakfast after our second night's stay. (See separate review for the restaurant.) The inn staff was incredibly kind and friendly, not to mention, helpful. If ever we get to return to Bennington, Vermont, there is NO DOUBT that we'd find our way back to staying at the Four Chimneys Inn. Every single detail of the property has been so thoughtfully considered, it's truly incredible. The attention to detail in every square foot left me in awe!!! Lisa is the kind of host you can only dream about. She pours her whole heart into making sure every guest feels cared for, and you can truly tell. It felt less like staying at a rental and more like being welcomed into the home of an old friend. It's rare to find a place where you feel so completely at home, only better!! Not a big deal, but I don't know that this is something you'll really know until check-in. The building a few doors down where I stayed also appeared to be historic though a bit less grand on the main level than the main house. The lobby of the building was festively decorated for the holiday. With the bright windows, a sofa, Christmas music playing, and a tree twinkling, one afternoon I couldn't resist getting a little work done in the lobby. My room was cozy with a small kitchenette, bed, arm chairs, and desk. The arm chairs are cute but not very comfortable. The desk was perfectly positioned overlooking the windows, which made for a great spot to work. The bed was pretty uncomfortable and probably needs to be replaced (it was sinking on both sides with a high spot in the middle). For my solo traveling girlies: +The inn is not staffed all night +Doors have old fashioned keys, deadbolts, and chains +The surrounding neighborhood seems nice and safe enough +Parking is slightly off site and requires walking around the block or through the back of the property. If you don't need to bring a car, I'd opt for uber +I think there may be some permanent residents in the additional property (a couple doors down from the main house) All and all, it's a beautiful, historic property, which is one of my favorite sorts to stay in. The main one being that I was unable to enjoy the tub as much as I would have liked. The first night the jets didn't work, and someone was nice enough to come by the next day and fix it. Later that night I was looking forward to finally using the tub as intended (and even cancelled a spa day for it) but the other guests had already used all of the hot water by then. I left without getting much of any enjoyment from the tub, which is the main reason I booked the room in the first place. The other issue was the parking situation, which, to be fair, I should have anticipated before booking, considering its location. The parking spot doesn't come with the room, so you must pay extra to access it, and finding it in the dark after dinner is not easy when you have to follow a paper map and there is a line of cars behind you. Walking back to the inn alone in the dark was also pretty unsettling. Overall, this experience was the opposite of relaxing. I will say that the property is very pretty, though, and seemed to be clean.

It was not perfect, but 4 of us stayed comfortably and we easily could have hosted 4 others although maybe less comfortably. Check-in and service we received were great. We called twice before coming, one call was better (a middle aged male I think) and one was less than optimistic (younger female) but the person did seem to warn us that they would try to get is to our unit by the 4pm check in time. Honestly, I don't fault someone setting expectations correctly so I didn't hold this against them-I prefer truth and by being a little concerned maybe that made me pleasantly surprised when they were prepared to let us in before 4pm (but we did arrive later than we would have had the lady not warned us). Also noteworthy - every conversation we had with guest services were very pleasant and there was ALWAYS someone or multiple people at the desk. This was in early to mid May just to give you context. The unit itself was well appointed if a little tired in some places (couch was a bit dated as were some of the dinning room chairs) but the kitch and baths seemed good, save low water pressure and hot water taking a bit to come up as someone else mentioned. Heating unit was good, never tried the A/C. All the locks, cable/TV, stoves, etc. worked flawlessly (minus a crack in a carafe that must have been there prior to our arrival), we were even able to hook up a streaming stick in one of the units (not the other because of the model of the TV) which helped us enjoy the unit a lot in the evenings. The Pool and Jacuzzi were fantastic. The temp of the Jacuzzi was warm-like it should be-so I do recommend either getting out as advised after 20-30 mins or going into the pool to cool off a bit before going back. I'm sure the timing of our visit was key but our party used the facilities several times before anyone else were using them-I wouldn't expect this but we tried to go at dinner time to have some time to ourselves and we got lucky every time...and that worked well as we are late eaters. The location we are use to because we have stayed down the road at the now closed Bentley Brook (which we loved) and love the location of the resort in Hancock. Due note, for almost anything you have a 15-30 minute drive to Pittsfield, Williamstown, etc. on the East Side of the mountain the place is nesteld or Stephenstown and New Lebanon to the West/Southwest. We have stayed in the Berkshires a lot over the years and really like this quiet area. We tend to take road trips on nice weather days and have been virtually every direction in a circe about 1.5 hours. Other than the obvious close towns of Williamstown, North Adams, Pittsfield, Lenox and New Lebanon (which has a few close decent/good restauants) we recommend day trips to Albany, Great Barrington, Bennington VT and Hudson/Catskill NY. Saratoga and Lake George are a little farther and would require a long day but are doable from there if you are ambitious. Def would stay here again in a few years...but we have been to the Berkshires in most seasons and are good on it now for a bit. Hope this helps someone make the decision.

It's the worst hotel we have experienced. The room has jacuzzi but the hot water is running out…read morewith only 1/3 of tub filled. We can't even use the regular hot shower the rest of night. The bedroom is very cold the whole night and we had to sleep near the fireplace in the living room. The worst thing is the front desk personnel didn't even apologize for such a bad maintenance and suggested I should just wait for hot water and wait for hot air.
