While not in Amherst, the Country Cape was within easy driving distance to the Emily Dickinson Museum (a 15 minute drive), Yankee Candle Factory (5 minute drive), the charming town of Northhampton (15 minute drive), and Historic Deerfield (15 minute drive). I was so glad we chose to stay here rather than a place directly in Amherst as the drives to each and every place we went were so utterly green and magnificent. The Inn keepers (a married couple) were very helpful directing us to fun and fabulous places to see and wonderful places to dine (double checked on Yelp, of course). The breakfasts were nothing short of divine. Each beginning with fresh seasonal fruit and yogurt paired with some sort of sweet bread or muffins. And, then the main course (pancakes, omelets, eggs Benedict, California breakfast sandwich) along with hash browns, home fried potatoes, and/or sausage/bacon. Our room was beautiful and always spotless. We stayed in the Ell, which I highly recommend. We had our own bathroom and the view of the grounds from our room was a luscious feast for the eyes. It's a small Inn (only 3 rooms) and there weren't any other people staying there while we were there, so we were able to enjoy wonderfully quiet meals together (as a mom of sons--I cannot tell you what a little peace a quiet does for a girl) and individualized attention from our Innkeepers. They first took us for a tour of their charming home which features a nice array of artwork throughout. They also gave us plenty of tips on what to do in the local area. Our main reason for visiting was to check out Historic Deerfield, which was an easy 15 minute drive from the inn. The complimentary guest passes to Historic Deerfield that Nancy keeps on hand were a very nice bonus. Amherst and the Emily Dickinson museum were another easy drive in the opposite direction. We stayed in The Ell, which is a wonderful room with a great view of the swimming pool and surrounding field. The private bathroom was a good size and Nancy kept everything sparkling clean throughout our stay. The pool was a nice place to cool off after visting various places during the hot days, so don't forget your suit if you come in the summer. The breakfasts were great! Nancy took the time to talk with us each evening to confirm that we'd like what she was thinking of serving the next day and was also able to address dietary restrictions which was very much appreciated. We truly enjoyed every moment of our stay and definitely plan on returning in the near future.

The rooms are stocked with snacks and there's some local artwork you can purchase if you like. The upstairs suite doesn't have any kind of a kitchen, though there's a mini-fridge and I believe a microwave, so dishes are bussed out as you use them; don't plan on doing any food prep on your own. The hostess brought breakfast to the room (there's not a common dining room like most B&Bs) and pointed out the local ingredients including eggs from her chickens and vegetables from the garden. This is a real working mini-farm and it's fun to stroll the grounds and see what is going on. And it's VERY close to the northeast corner of the campus; we were able to leave our car and walk to his dorm (Van Meter) in about 20 minutes. Like the website says, the grounds are very rich in animals and there's an extremely friendly cat who wouldn't stay out of our room in spite of the management's desire to keep the premises pet-free. Keep this in mind if you have allergies.

The owners were extremely accommodating to the needs of the wedding party. My wife and I spent the night and had a very quaint room. The breakfast was fantastic and more than enough. The grounds were impeccably well maintained. The views were beautiful. I found the Shelburne House to be a very relaxing and peaceful place. While sitting on the deck in the early evening, we observed a beautiful gray fox grabbing a peach from the ground under their peach tree before slinking off into the back pasture. Jo and Joan have a living space on another floor and we pretty much had the main floor living room to ourselves for the 3 1/2 days we stayed. The bedroom was very comfortable and the bathroom was clean with comfy robes provided. Jo is a chef extrordinaire, and seemed to provide whatever we wanted for a custom breakfast at whatever time worked best for us. We were attending the Noho Bike Fest on Saturday and were each leaving at different times. Jo got up early specifically to prepare my boyfriend a hearty breakfast before he headed out on his bike. She prepared another breakfast for me a little bit later as I didn't need to be up as early. Amazing! It was a serene and peaceful long weekend away that I hope to do again soon.

Pepper my dog was so tiered of driving she wanted to live here! The area had great hiking and the cottage was always a warm cosy home base. Morning scones were fantastic, and never went to waste. Cavalier Cottage offers pet friendly lodging which we took advantage of with our two pugs. I figured we were only going there to pick up the cart, however we spent the day checking out all the little shops around town and ate in the West End Pub. Patricia offers a clean room with a full kitchen. She is very friendly and kind offering us whatever we needed. I would definitely recommend the Cavalier Cottage. We will be staying there the next time we're in Shelburne Falls.
