This may be a fine venue for performances, but accessibility for the disabled is an afterthought. A very late afterthought. Is it technically ADA compliant? Probably. Barely. When you arrive from the south (as we did) you are met with a giant staircase to enter. Turns out there is a ramp on the north side. You wouldn't know that though, as there is nary a sign to be seen. Once you go around the building you can get in. There are metal detectors. They're sort of unattended though, or at least the people working them are far on the other side. What's a wheelchair to do? We tried getting someone's attention and eventually they irritatedly told us to just go through. We did. Not sure what kind of metal detectors those are supposed to be when the fully metal wheelchair didn't set them off. Now... our tickets are on the mezzanine. How do we get there? Lots of stairs.... No signs for an elevator. Had to ask around. There is one- way around the corner. It's small, old, and slow. But we got there. No bathrooms on the mezzanine though. Too bad for us. Then, after the show... the elevator.... There's a sign telling able bodied people to take the stairs.... But they don't. They just look at us sheep faced as they come down from the higher balconies packed full so we can't get in. No attendant or anything, no staff member to tell them no, so... us folx with wheelchairs and canes and walkers, we just wait for all the able bodies to get down. (And of course not all disabilities are visible. But their eyes told us their guilt.) We were there to see Tig Notaro. I think she'd be ashamed of some of her fans. And the venue. I ordered my tickets to the Morgan Jay show Online. It was easy to pick my seat and also receive my ticket. The venue is pretty spacious and the seats were decent. I sat in Row C so I was fairly close to the front. This venue does offer some snacks as well as drinks for purchase. The drink prices were about average for when you go to a venue. There is plenty of restaurant options nearby as well as a couple hotels to stay at if you're out of town like me. read more

The Hult Center is Eugene's premiere fine arts venue. It's a civic venue; the bond measure approved by Eugene's voters in the 70s covered both the performing arts center and the hotel/convention center adjacent, with no federal or state funds used in building the facility. The idea was to reinvigorate the city, which for most of its existence has existed as lumber town and has, IMO, struggled a bit as it's grown and tried to reinvent over the last few decades. The grand opening took place in 1982. Nice and forward-thinking of the city, at the time fewer than 100,000 people. (I'm hoping that my mom and grandparents were amongst those giving it a 'yay' vote.) It's located in the heart of downtown Eugene. The building is interesting and quite striking in some ways. There's part of the exterior that is plain cement; I'm not sure who had this drab concrete vision for Eugene in the 60s-80s, but there were a few buildings built in this same style. It's definitely ugly and unfortunate. Luckily, I'd argue the Hult has one of the most beautiful lobbies of any building; it is fully glass, several stories tall. Its jagged peaks emulate the mountains surrounding the Willamette Valley, within which Eugene is situated. At night it simply glows and is quite beautiful. The other unique feature is in the Silva Concert Hall, the main performance space. The walls and ceiling have a basket weave design which I believe was a design to solve the problem of acoustics, since it is a multipurpose building dedicated to producing performances of all kinds: opera, musicals, orchestra, and more. It hosts non-arts events--my high school graduation was here, and I think all of Eugene's high schools still hold graduation in this ~2,500 seat hall. The Oregon Bach Festival, established at the University of Oregon by the late Helmuth Rilling and the late Royce Saltzman, is perhaps the jewel in the Hult Center crown. The Soreng Theatre is the other official performing space here, though I've been to more intimate performances that have taken place in the lobby as well. If those are some of the impressive features of the Hult Center, of course there are some downsides. One of the biggest is parking. Eugene is a city where, until the early 2000s, one of the tallest buildings was four stories, with the only skyscraper in town being the retirement center. The parking garage is not efficient in its design, and there are far too few disabled parking spots. Accessibility is another big issue; I took my mom here and dropping off in front would not have been an option because she couldn't have gotten from the street level to lobby level alone, and the only entrance from the garage was on the second floor of the parking garage (where there was insufficient disabled spots, and I'm not sure if other levels had disabled parking). These are things that I really hope their IDEA staff are considering and working to improve. There are a few resident companies here beyond the Bach Festival. They also have touring performances, such as Broadway in Eugene, bands or performers. Amongst the shows I've seen here are Seinfeld (it was like 2003, cut me some slack); Aida, as performed by the Eugene Opera; Harry Connick, Jr.; RIverdance; most recently, Hamilton. It's always a very enjoyable evening whatever I see here. I hope you get a chance to experience it soon yourself. read more

Typically, we have a great experience, we are season ticket holders and never had an issue, but tonight during Mrs. Doubtfire the security situation was disappointing. Multiple doors were left unlocked, we went in naturally thinking they were open, and we sat in the lobby for about 20 minutes without anyone acknowledging us. Eventually, an older security guard approached and abruptly told us, "You need to leave," in a rude and unprofessional tone. It really affected what is usually an enjoyable night out. Review of the security and teaching security proper manners is recommended. read more

I recently went and saw a show here (haven't been in years). Plenty of street parking as well as a garage nearby. We went to a matinee so it was pretty busy outside, not sure what it's like at night in the area. First thing that struck me as strange was there was no one at the entrance. I'm not used to just walking into a venue without scanning my tickets, going through security, and being pointed in the right direction. Nope. Here they have a metal detector, but everyone just walks past it rather than through it since no one is there (sure makes you feel safe). Then you just kind of wander until you find where you do scan your tickets because it's a mob of people inside with no direction, no signage. Get scanned and given no direction on where to go (signage is awful here). Figure we think we know where we're going so off we head into the darkness where there's no way you could find your seat without a light. Long before the show starts there is the dimmest lighting I have ever seen for a venue expecting you to find your seat. Had to ask someone because there are no signs for the seating area and it's super dark. Good thing we didn't want any food/drinks/restrooms because it would've been so frustrating to deal with. Show was fine (that's on the performers) and I won't harsh on the rude patrons because they can't control them all. Glad this is too far away to go for things because I would not look forward to it, only went for family. read more

Celtic Woman Haunting yet energetic, the music is traditional and historic as well as modern. This event is song and dance with an Irish Troupe who have excellent choreography and a varied music selection. The music and songs are very lively and invigorating with a wide range of sad, joyous, longing, it's all there. It was intermingled with a lot of cheerful feel good music that had the audience clapping in tempo. This performance was excellent. I saw an ad for an amazing ballet a friend and I really want to see. We were so excited but neither of us has been to Eugene before and we are both ADA so it can get really complicated even going places we are familiar with. It is hard to tell so many things unless you are actually getting seated and then it is too late. The very frustrating thing for ADA too is that venues are supposed to have ADA available for all price points but usually we get stuck paying more unless we reach out for them - most of my friends who are ADA do not have the time or patience to deal so they just don't go. I reached out to ask also because just because things are marked ADA doesn't mean they are ADA and my friend qualifies for Arts for All tickets since she gets benefits. The Hult Center was recently added to it. Apparently they are working to catch up with that. They were great to call me back but they referred me to the ballet company. I genuinely thought that the company would be unable to help figuring it was the venue. The tickets are by each show though. Luckily the ballet company responded so fast to me and to the venue. We were able to get ADA seating at a much lower cost as the tickets available were a lot and well worth it. We were nervous heading into the Hult Center but wow! First of all, we did not realize that there are two theaters in here and that they can fit nearly 3000 people between the two. Their garage has an incredible amount of people clearly identified with wands an vests - bravo! It made for entering the parking garage so easy and then I freaked seeing that the person was collecting cash (which I just do not use) for parking and I worried about a card reader but she immediately saw my ADA placard saying that ADA is free to park versus the $6...WHAT?!? Then I remembered the person I spoke with saying that! That is so nice - but also $6 for their parking is really great because that garage is nice and ADA friendly. I never park in garages in PDX because they are a mess and dangerous for ADA without proper walk ways, elevator access etc so being able to park easily was nice - although a Prius parked almost on top of me so I had to pull the car out to help my friend into the car after the show and then fold her walker etc... Folks, seriously... we are not parking ADA for fun and many times have mobility issues... just try not to make life harder for others because nearly every time I park anywhere someone parks nearly into me in the able bodied spot next to ADA. Sometimes I go into a store with the cane and am genuinely good but have to take so long due to pain that after getting stuff loaded I really need to sit and cannot open my car door because a truck is parked against it. Rant mode off.... But when we were leaving they also had the vested folks which was VERY helpful since we do not know the area and the garage goes out onto a one way street. When inside we were a touch overwhelmed because we were now close to showtime and could here announcements and people darting to the elevators in all different directions - it was a bit of chaos. We then discovered we were in a smaller theater but at first w had two different ushers trying t help us making it a bit worse as we were trying to pay attention to two people barking questions at us. These two determined people wanted to get us on an elevator. One of them even kept saying they have no idea where we are going...please don't be that person. WOW...they were almost grabbing my friend and her walker to force her into the elevator till she said a hard NO. I was looking for signage and we followed a crowd towards the right place. Ballet Fantastique had ballet pieces to Steampunk styled music performed with cello, piano, and an accordion. A spoken word actor recited parts from five different Edgar Allen Poe pieces (some would argue his best): Masque of the Red Death (1842), The Raven (1845), Fall of the House of Usher (1839), Annabel Lee (1849) and Cask of Amontillado (1846). There were touches of cirque with an aerialist and stilt walker. The sets, lighting, and aesthetic were incredible. They had some gorgeous masks for sale at amazing prices and I could not resist getting a gorgeous production poster signed by the whole cast for $5. I agree with other reviews that people being late seated was frustrating that they would not wait at least between the pieces t make it less distracting but we were also ill content as the ushers kept chatting right behind us through the whole show... that was driving me a bit insane and the downside to being in the back for ADA though with people being late seated throughout it was all very distracting especially for such an intense performance. read more

I've seen two performances here so far and am looking forward to the next. The seats are nothing special in terms of comfort but I never find myself shifting to get more comfortable. I've had a good view both times despite not paying for expensive seats. The sound is always good and the volunteers do a great job with crowd control. The parking garage egress is always especially smooth - huge props to the folks who direct traffic there! They pause exiting traffic to let you out if you have to back out on the first level, something I personally appreciate as I always get anxious parking in the hardest to exit part of a garage. read more

Saw Brian Regan here last night, our first time at the Hult Center, and we were very impressed. The theater itself was beautiful, seats were comfy (very low, but not a biggie). Volume was a little loud, but we were right up front so that could be part of it. We loved the parking; there's a garage next door that's connected by a skybridge, and the spots are strangely big for a parking garage. Being Eugene, it was so much easier and faster to get in and out than if we were in Portland or Seattle (the other two places we've seen Brian). Lots of good places to eat nearby as well, we had a sandwich at Scrible's beforehand, check them out if you get a chance. We will definitely be on the lookout for more shows to see here. read more

Short: The staff is super friendly and helpful, plenty of parking, and plenty of spaces. Visited week of Dec 20th '22. Would do 4 and a half [4.5] stars. I arrived with my party to watch a performance at the Hult. It was in Silva concert hall and I had to pick up the tickets at the Will Call. All the staff I engaged with, were more than willing to help, super friendly, and welcoming. Definitely felt great service and hospitality. Will call was super easy to pick up the tickets, the complimentary jacket staff was so polite, and our ticket checker was so friendly as well. Staff helped us all get to our seats. We had to ask twice but we got there! The only issue would be the person next to me, thought it was smart to use flash while taking a video, so it ruined almost the entire first act for me. After the person did this for the fourth time, did a staff member *finally* reach out to that person, to not use flash photography. Seats: I sat at an upper level, and it is pretty cramped. The only place to set things down is the floor in front of your chair and under your chair. No cupholders nor much arm space. Definitely could have been more comfortable. I did not buy anything from the concessions. There was only one spot open and they do serve alcohol. Overall, would love to watch another performance at the Hult! read more

Love this Performance Center - great seats, staff are amazing ,parking was well managed & most importantly the acoustics from both the performers on the stage and in the orchestra pit are fantastic. We had such a great experience yesterday (5/19) when we attended ............with one exception.......... Why oh why does the concession stand sell crinkly bags of candy and chips?!?! and then let the audience bring them inside the auditorium to eat? It was highly distracting listening to people make so much noise crunching chips and digging their hands repeatedly into these bags instead of listening to the amazing orchestra and performance Please reconsider the food policy in the auditorium or at least provide something quieter like popcorn in a container instead of the current options. read more

This was our first visit to the Hult Center, and tonight's entertainment was the Nut Cracker. It was a rainy evening so we decided to arrive early and park in the adjoining parking garage for $6.00. We arrived 75 minutes before the show and parked on the first level for an easy exit. The doors opened an hour prior to the show, coffee was available. I purchased tickets in the first row, which if I had to do over, I'd set back a few more rows for better viewing. 30 minute intermission is ample time for a snack and or restroom break. When leaving the side isles will give you a faster exit. Great show, loved the performances! read more

The Hult Center is rapidly becoming my favorite venue for traveling entertainment. I live in South Salem, equal-distant between the Hult in Eugene, and Keller Auditorium in Portland. I find that, traveling to Eugene, the parking is easier and cheaper at the Hult, the freeway drive is easier, and there are certainly more and better dining options within walking distance of the Hult. The seats are comfortable, the auditorium is more intimate, the acoustics are great, the restrooms are large and well-maintained -- what is not to love. Very impressive performing arts center. They have a really nice seating area. Comfy seats. The layout is beautiful! The woodwork flows in a beautiful architectural form and the sound is amazing. The lighting was spectacular throughout the venue. I loved the way they left plenty of room between seats and walkways were open and spacious. The location was perfect. It is right next to the Hilton so if you are staying overnight in Eugene it works out great. They have a variety of shows here from choir competitions for kids all the way to broadway performances. A good choice for a live show. This place will not disappoint. read more

We saw Squeeze and the Psychedelic at Furs Hult Center in Eugene tonight. Assessment: Squeeze in The Furs were great. I will never go to the Holt center again! About four sets in on the Furs the ushers went up front and started making people sit down. The band could generate no energy in the crowd because the ushers kept making the crowd sit down; no dancing in the aisles which I understand but also no dancing in your seat. What a horrible venue to see a dance band! Never before have I felt so bad for a band. How are they supposed to generate energy when the venue is suppressing the audience? A group of friends and I were here for the Derek Hough Live Tour. It was a great stage event venue. The whole venue was conveniently located, clean, and well designed. Inside the main stage area the seats are comfortable despite being a bit small. The balconies are smartly designed. The view, from anywhere, of the stage was great. I would say the major downfall is that the lobby barely has any benches or sitting areas while people wait to be let into their stage seating. read more

It's been forever since I've attended an event here (seriously brings back some great memories). Nothing has changed which speaks volumes of ownership, management and staff. Really awesome venue for any type of event. We were in the orchestra seating which is all good. Even balcony seating is great. Not a bad seat in the house. We arrived late (long story) and we only had one ticket. The box office had closed and the attendants tried to contact everyone they could think of to get us an extra ticket and an extra seat. Long story short they didn't stop until they figured something out for us. Most places wouldn't have gone to these lengths to accommodate us. They have a great selection of adult beverages to choose from at a pretty reasonable price. Sound quality here never disappoints! They have great acoustics that amplify out amazingly! As a venue, the Hult Center is about as good as it gets for Eugene. I've seen many shows here from David Copperfield to the Zapp Dancing Troupe, all were great shows on their own but it takes a great venue to be able to host it well. In a nutshell, the Hult Center gets a high grade for being able to showcase great shows in a well maintained facility. The seating capacity is medium sized to small, reflecting the fact that Eugene isn't exactly a booming metropolis.. It's not as intimate as a bar or small theater, but this place more than gets the job done. With that said, almost every seat is a good seat. The front row might even be a little too much and some folks swear by the balcony level seats. The place is always well maintained and the bathrooms are super clean. Even from shows, I've attended this space for conventions and they've always done a good job of keeping everything organized. Parking is easy and evenly spaced out on multiple floors via a connecting garage. I can always look forward to attending a show at the Hult. read more

What a beautiful performing arts venue! Seeing a show here has been on my bucket list for Eugene, and I'm so glad I was finally able to check this one off! There is a bar with concessions, nice restrooms, beautiful skylight ceilings, and plush seating. Also close enough to walk somewhere to get dinner downtown before or after the show! The Soreng Theater within the Hult Center is an accident that already happened. I have attended shows at the Soreng Theater perhaps 4 times now. Two out of the four shows I have seen elderly people fall or come very close to falling. One of the 2 out of 4, I caught an stopped from a nasty fall. Last night it was a 91 year old woman. She was trying to get to her seat at the end of row J. Several rather large people were already seated. They had to stand up an exit the row so she could pass. She backed up as they came out on the one person landing with her back to the stage and fell backwards missing the step in the dark theater. Legs up in the air, on her butt, head down towards the stage, landing on her shoulder. Ushers? No where to be found. Until the damage was done. A total disaster of curtousty and consideration. What happened next? One person decided she was a log that had fallen, looked at the others, and said OK guys heavy lift. They all grabbed her, five or six people, embarrassment an all, righted her like nothing was wrong, planted her on her feet, let her enter the row with no one in the way this time, and the show went on. Unbeliavle. Really, totally unbelievable. Where are people raised these days and by who? read more

Hult Center is the home of the Oregon Bach Festival. It's been a stunning venue for musicals like West Side Story, the opera Dimitrij, concerts, dancers like Pilobulus and Momix. It's got a splendid structure, very open. There are no bad seats. It's no wonder the Bach Festival calls this home. It's sizable enough without leaving you swamped. There are various levels, clean bathrooms, even good intermission refreshments. Hult Center is a jewel in the home of the Ducks. read more

The Hult Center is an amazing venue, it's absolutely beautiful and well taken care of. The size is just right, as others have mentioned, you can sit anywhere and enjoy the show. Rather you're seeing a stage show or a concert, it's the perfect environment. I've been to countless musicals, caught Conan O'Brien on his nationwide tour after the NBC debacle and now am looking forward to seeing Billy Idol play this weekend. This should show you the array of choices that come through this lovely building. The staff is always attentive and helpful which adds comfort to the quality entertainment. I absolutely adore a place you can stroll in to see a play and not gag on the pretension in the air. I'm always excited to see who's coming through the Hult, not just for the show itself but because I honestly enjoy visiting the venue. read more

Hult Center is GORGEOUS! My husband and I are performance junkies. we have seen COUNTLESS concerts and performances. we love to see stand up and concerts and everything in between. Hult Center is one of my favorite venues. Its gorgeous, and they have REALLY quality acts there. our first experience with Hult was seeing Conan O'Brien on his tour. We LOVED it! we have since gone for a couple other shows; anytime theres a Hult Center option, we try and go there. this does mean that we pay more. which is really the only downside. Ive noticed an increase in price per ticket to see a show at Hult versus in Portland somewhere, which is not something we love. but it is gorgeous. the acoustics are awesome. usually we manage to get seats fairly close (furthest we have sat was about 15 rows from the stage, so we arent sure how it looks and feels and what the experience is for those sitting behind). get your seats early, presale if you can. and if you have a question, always send an email to clarify. the event coordinator is really efficient and will reply quickly, but sometimes the website is misleading in ticket info. so always clarify! (a couple times I thought I was buying VIP seats, turns out I wasnt. boo.) We are heading down there next year for Alton Brown's tour and looking forward to it! read more

The main auditorium is huge and to pack in so many seats in the available square footage, the architect decided to place several hundred seats facing the oppose wall rather than the stage. A few seats in the top balcony offer an excellent view of a pillar. So if you want to see what's on stage without getting a stiff neck, be careful what seat you select; naturally the seats facing the stage are the most expensive. (I know about the side-facing seats and stiff neck from experience.) The acoustics are good. The sound engineer controls take up seating space rather than being placed in one of the control booths in the back. Apparently for better sound control. The parking garage for the center is next door and there is another lot across the street. Convenient. read more

Saw Jim Gaffigan last night at The Hult Center. It's a beautiful venue and I always enjoy the events that I attend. Last night was no exception. My only complaint, because I am that kinda woman, would be the adjacent parking structure. It takes forever and at least half a day to get out.
