such a great place to spend a Saturday. there's farmer's markets stalls around the building from…read moreearly morning til about 1pm. if that doesn't float your boat, there are also food and vendors inside the building. not to mention the ferry ride over to Sausalito to spend the rest of your Saturday milling around. there are always lots to see, smell, drink and eat when you're in the city. i took mom to the Ferry Building. we had inadvertently parked near Salesforce park and grabbed coffee there. parking is a lot cheaper and less crowded. we paid on the convenient ParkMobile app. then we walked about 15 min to the Ferry Building where we grabbed lunch. I was so glad i tried the pastrami & porchetta sandwiches at the Fatted Calf. i highly recommend those 2 sandwiches with the pastrami as the must try again. (note to self: the Fatted Calf deserves their own separate review) once we were done with lunch, we bought our tickets to ferry over to Sausalito, the ride is only 30 minutes. TIPS: seniors & youth tickets are cheaper bought at the machine. regular adult tickets are cheaper paid as a tap/go along the line boarding the ferry. provided that you have the clipper card for convenience sake. onto Sausalito, clean bathrooms past the park. there were so much to see and do in every directions. we literally walked off our lunch and people watch. check out the expensive yachts dock. i wish i could do some fishing there. overall, a wonderful day spent at the Ferry Building. it is a much busier hub now than what it used to be some 10 years ago.

I also scored a huge almond croissant from a vendor. The Ferry Building is beautiful and worth a stop and has bars, restaurants, and an art exhibit upstairs. Just don't come on a weekday and expect fresh fruit.

I actually come here for the produce I never see at Safeway or even Whole Foods like Romanesco zucchini. Y'know, the big gray-green ones with the prominent ribbing and nutty taste. No inappropriate jokes please. I also come here to get at least a couple of bunches of Chinese long beans and those silky-firm white peaches. I have to say I have no problem filling up my Halal Guys bag with fresh goodies because the vendors here always have quality produce (see my photo gallery). It's worth coming just for the free samples but expect to get an elbow in the face from the more aggressive cheapskates. Nothing is ever free, is it? The market fits snugly into the ground floor of the Crocker Galleria every Thursday from 11AM to 3PM (plus Tuesdays during the summer). Somehow these visible stores in the San Francisco neighborhoods are usually invisible to the media and that includes social media .The only time I see these foods are being celebrated is when they are separated at a Costco or at ethnic food aisles at an AI ( Albertsons Inc.) store such as a Safeway which will have these bottles and cans on the shelfs. Some restaurants in the city which serves fusion Latin and Asian dishes are getting their produce when they need to reload at these grocery stores . I ran into one on Clement street which was formerly known as El Chico Produce and it's now called Del Rio Produce. On a Clement street stroll I landed at a grocery store with international products and has Chinese products. Inside it felt like Deja Vu as I felt going back in time to my childhood in the Mission District shopping at a similar grocery store. You will find an aisle of international cheeses. You will find also are lots of ingredients to make Adobo chicken. You will also see ramen with Korean, Japanese and Mexican flavors. There are different types of berries and nuts available. This is the spot to embrace the international diversity of San Francisco through drink , foods, and produce . In the month of May it's AAPI month and Cinco de Mayo along with Carnival in San Francisco so plan a visit to Del Rio Produce ( Not in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil home of Carnival) on 23rd Avenue and Clement. Balboa Market is a nice neighborhood market that has a little bit of everything. The prices are, of course, higher than in a big supermarket. But I have found better customer service and just plain better treatment in smaller markets, than in chain supermarkets. Why? They want repeat business and positive opinions about the place (like Yelp reviews). When you shop in a neighborhood market, you just buy what you need. While I was paying for my oranges and chocolate chip cookies, the clerk tried to sell me ice cream. I told him it's around 57*F and drizzling outside. He said eating ice cream might make you feel warmer. Then we had an amusing discussion about San Francisco weather. Maybe 57*F is balmy for the "Avenues" because people were outside eating dinner in parklets. Anyway, Balboa Produce Market is a nice neighborhood store, and is probably a popular choice among locals. That's why it was still open pass 6pm.

Not some dinky plastic hummus full of lackluster "eh" ingredients - but a hearty solid jar full of spicy organic ingredients that tickled my tongue with pure excellence. Hummus is everywhere now. It's an excellent, easy, and accessible source of vegetarian protein. And it's so easy to play around with. Spice it up. Garlic it up. Tang it up. Sweeten it up. But with the wealth of hummus on the market - I've found that very few hummus concoctions actually taste authentic and great. And some hummus producers add ickiness into what is fundamentally a very basic recipe. I don't want to see any canola oil in my hummus. I don't want to see any preservatives. I just want simple garbanzo beans, tahini, garlic, and olive oil. The Love and Hummus Co get this and go the extra step by making sure that all of their ingredients are simple and organic. Thank you. While I've certainly walked away from said farmer's markets with a plastic container of hummus in tow, Love & Hummus floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee, dropping a jaw-shattering right hook to the rest of the competition.
