Here's my story: I live in LA and there is a well-known wedding photographer who is also named Katherine Rose. Katherine Rose (LA) shot our very good friends' wedding two years ago and also came highly recommended by one of the partners of 100 layer cake that we're also very close with. I looked at Katherine (LA)'s portfolio via a link sent to me and my fiancé and I loved her work. We chatted about photographers over dinner one night and decided to go with Katherine Rose, so from my phone I googled her name and was directed to Katherine Rose (Escondido)'s website unbeknownst to me that there were two wedding photographers with the same name. I emailed Katherine Rose (Escondido) specifically mentioning all the people close to us that had recommended her and how excited we were to have her shoot our wedding. She did not acknowledge nor tell me that she didn't actually know any of the people who I said recommended her. Long story short, I signed a contract and paid a $1k deposit for the WRONG Katherine Rose. I discovered my mistake when we decided to push our date back a couple weeks. Of course, I'd already signed a contract and given a "non-refundable" deposit. Katie did give me back 60% of deposit, which of course per the contract she didn't have to, but it still left me feeling pretty disappointed. I felt misled. However.. I'm also very grateful that I discovered the error before the wedding and was able to book the Katherine Rose I intended to book.

I get uncomfortable taking photos and having the attention on myself and they made the experience completely relaxing and actually quite funny which made the photos more fun! They did my photos for my 2 years anniversary with my boyfriend after he came back from deployment overseas. They were super flexible with the location. We were able to find breath taking spots in downtown La Jolla and around La Jolla Cove. What I really appreciated was that they were able to capture our kodak moments without us realizing that they were even there sometimes. They made us feel so comfortable in front of the lens. The photographer always had some sort of unique posing ideas so we were never out of ideas! I've had professional photos done in the past, but nothing was compared to Lucid Photography to be honest. They are truly one of a kind! Not only are they skilled photographers, they were also very quick at getting the photos to us as well. We all know the anticipation of waiting for those photos to be uploaded. We got our photos back within 2 weeks! That's a record! Usually, on average, photographers take at least 3-6 months to release the photos. They gave us digital copies on a CD. They are very client oriented and are easy to communicate with. Jon Chan definitely captured the important parts that I want to remember about my special day. His photo qualities are a bit more natural and subdued than some other photographers I've seen, who tend towards increasing saturation until the images, while beautiful, no longer look realistic. I wanted photos that would capture the emotion of the day while still retaining the way things really looked, and Jon definitely did that for us. The engagement photoshoot was a fun endeavor, with my husband, Jon and I running around Santa Cruz beach boardwalk, and he really adapts to what you want. I prefer something more candid and fun, but I've seen some of his other photos that are more like portraits and model photoshoots, which are also artfully done. Not only are his photos great, but he was also very professional and considerate throughout the whole process. He called me to get updates on the schedule and also asked how involved I wanted him to be. I also appreciate that he dressed up with a dress shirt and vest for the event instead of coming in something less formal, which I've seen of photographers at other weddings. Also, the albums and products that he gives are of a fantastic quality. It has a lay-flat binding so you don't bend any of the pages or have to crane your neck to look at it.
