This place was a GREAT find! My friend got me a record from here for a birthday gift. As soon as I saw what he got me, I knew I had to check them out for myself. I went last week and was impressed with how large this place is. They had a great selection and the layout is easy to navigate. Unlike most of the local places I've checked out, they had a great hip hop section. If you don't find what you are looking for in the main section, you can always check out their consignment section which has some rare gems from dealers that the shop works with. I ended up dropping $100 on some rare hip hop records. The guy running the store was super friendly and even alerted me to an original print of Notorious B.I.G. - Life After Death that hadn't been put out yet. I will definitely be returning to buy more stuff, but I think I will give my wallet a rest before returning again. read more

This is the only place I want to buy used records from now on. You will not find cleaner records anywhere. And I love the presentation with every single record in a high quality inner sleeve, placed in an outer plastic fold-over sleeve with the jacket. I have found several bucket list Jazz and older Rock records that I had thought I would never find locally. On top of that, the owner will go out of his way to help you if you have any issues with a disc. Have a little too much edge warp for your player? They have a flattener. My latest great customer service experience is that I totally screwed up and scratched up a brand new disc from a two-disc release. He's reaching out to Analogue Productions for me to see if anything can be done about replacing a single disc from this expensive set. Regardless of the outcome, I say 6 stars for trying to help. Only down side is I'm burning through a lot more gas coming up with excuses to get over to Phoenix from Gilbert. read more

I feel like different record stores have different specialties. The 'In' Groove is all about finding amazing pressings. If anyone has seen their YouTube channel you know that the staff here is extremely knowledgeable. Where I am at in my collection, I now have a system that is better than my entry level turntable that bought years ago. I would much rather have an amazing pressing of an album that I love (even if I have to pay a little extra for it) than to just have the album in my collection. This store specifically curates what they sell to the best pressings available. This is HUGELY valuable especially when you combine this with the knowledge of their staff. I came in from out of town and got some AMAZING records here that I will cherish for a long time. Mike and the rest of the staff were super helpful when I asked questions in regards to pressings of the albums I was looking for. Made a side trip to check out The In Groove during a recent visit to Scottsdale and was not disappointed. I found a handful of grail records I'd been questing to find for a good long time; a small pile of other records I'd wanted, and three new releases I was planning to grab first place I saw them. Next day, back home, and discovering these LPs are super clean...I've only been to one record store that took more care (and it's all the way in Orlando, FL). The bedside manner of the guy working the counter was a bit off-putting...I tried to make friendly conversation but he was not having it. I'm guessing from other reviews this is not the norm, but I was hoping to get some more information about the store and that was not about to happen so I was mildly disappointed. read more

I wish this place was in Tucson ! On a recent trip I stopped by for the first time, and was very impressed by not only their selection, but their care for the used records. I saw what appeared to be a cleaning machine in action, and the used records I had bought were placed into a placed antistatic sleeve rather than left in their original inner covers (which were included but separate). A nice touch that shows that they know what they are doing and something I haven't seen done elsewhere consistently. The only quibble I have is that they could add more artist sections rather than have so much just under the letter of the artist. read more

Had a good selection but I brought in some pristine vinyl of Jazz greats Miles Davis and John Coltrane to sell. The actually sold for prices on eBay were way higher than what he gave me and I feel like I got robbed. I know that there's overhead and times are tough but I took excellent care of these records in my collection for years. I didn't even scratch the eBay price and that is a world wide marketplace I realize that but I'll bet you that's where he's probably got them for sale too. Don't take anything there to sell. Even I'll give you more but I hate dealing with eBay too. Both jerks! read more

In town for a few days from Los Angeles and had to hit a record store or two if possible... Glad I made it to the "In" Groove while I'm in town! The owner takes care of his stock, when I walked in he had 6 record cleaners going simultaneously...most stores these days don't bother and it's a shame. The young blond girl working was extremely rude and was bothered that we were in the store. She has no customer service abilities at all. No greeting when entering the store and was given blank and dirty looks. The prices are way overpriced. You can get this same stuff cheeper elsewhere. I must have passed by 100 times before finally taking the time to stop. It's a big, open space and kind of overwhelming at first, so you need to take a few moments to wander and acclimate yourself to the space. Once I started digging, I felt the prices were on the high side...or perhaps I'm just thrifty. However, the records are presented immaculately and with great care; the records are wrapped and displayed on the outside of the jackets. Each one is sold with two extra plastic sleeves aside from the original paper one. They do have bins of cheap records on the floor as well. Behind the counter, stands a majestic, industrial-workhorse record cleaner of which I'd never seen before in all the record shops I've visited in my life. I found a record I had been looking for for a long time at a reasonable price, and took a chance on another cheaper one that didn't disappoint. When I got home, I immediately noticed how clean the vinyl was and the sound quality was top notch, nary a hiss or a pop. So I guess the moral of the story is, you get what you pay for, and paying a little more for quality is worth it. They also sell an impressive array of turntables, and even a high-end McIntosh amp I took a moment to drool over. On another note, I spoke with the owner, lamenting the discovery of some warped vinyl in my collection. He has a couple industrial "vinyl flatteners," and will de-warp records for $5 a pop. I'll definitely be taking him up on that service. read more

I finally visited the "In" Groove record store after seeing it's owner on YouTube discussing new LP arrivals. I was underwhelmed! It seemed like a good place to visit and spend time flipping through all the titles offered. Sadly, the prices on Used LPs were as high as what I have paid for new reissues! I looked at all the genres of music I am looking to add to my collection, but didn't find anything that was priced well. While there I also looked at the equipment displayed. There were some good options for Turntables and some electronics with phono stages, but what I found a little condescending were the numerous signs, "Do Not Touch the Equipment". Any Vinyl enthusiast knows not to touch delicate Turntables and other electronics. If the owner is so worried about this, putting the equipment behind a locked, glass cabinet would get the message across without the insulting signs everywhere. There better places to look for good quality Used LPs in the Valley but won't say which ones. I don't want to have everyone visiting them and having the owners of those stores raise their prices to match this establishment. If you're in the area, check it out; you might have better luck than I did and with luck, find things worth the exorbitant prices. I didn't and won't make a special trip to visit again. I happened to be in the area when I visited and under my breath mumbled how happy I was I hadn't made a special trip. read more

I've bought a little over a thousand dollars worth of records from this shop in the last year or so which probably makes me a relatively insignificant patron. I've enjoyed supporting an independent store. Today I received a record that I accidentally bought two copies of and, upon attempting to return it, learned that they do not except any returns other than damaged product. The record is unopened and still in the outer box it was mailed in. For a store with an owner who talks incessantly about customer service on his Youtube channel, this was shocking to me. I'll never shop here again. Frankly, with online stores like Acoustic Sounds, with far deeper inventory and better way customer service, why would I. It was fun while it lasted. read more

The highest compliment I can pay The In Groove is that it's very fortuitous I live nowhere near it. If I did, I imagine all my income would be directly funneled into this store, leaving me nothing to spend on food, utilities or bathing, forcing me to eke out an existence surrounded in an LP-based fortress. Fortunately, being a few hundred miles away helps ease the temptation to have my paycheck automatically delivered here. Unfortunately, I feel the need to return, and while that will not be for awhile, I will definitely make this a priority on all future visits to the Phoenix area. The In Groove is located in a small strip mall that you would probably never look twice at. Once you're inside, it really is a sensational experience: everything is immaculately taken care of and organized. The racks of records house thousands of items, each individually placed behind a protective plastic sheet, pristine and cleaned for the next buyer. And I'm serious when I say everything is given impressive attention - the colored-variant of "A Date with Elvis" by The Cramps I picked up looked just as polished as the forgotten copy of "The Cage" from Tygers of Pan Tang that was calling my name with its $5 price tag. Dig a little and I guarantee you will find something your collection needs. And the best part, aside from the fastidious care the staff here maintains, is the pricing. I picked up five records on my maiden voyage here and did not need to reevaluate whether or not I would be able to eat lunch. There are tons of used records to browse through that will not inflict mortal damage on your wallet, and plenty of new records that follow suit. For the adventurous, I believe there are some pricier, collectible variants behind the counter, including the infamous "robot" "Appetite for Destruction" cover. There is so much to see and consume in one small location that it would be overwhelming if it was not so organized. You can tell the team here really value and care about the music they are selling, with genres flowing seamlessly from rack to rack, including an awesomely tantalizing section labeled "WTF." There are CDs to scope out, too, plus some equipment and turntables, but the vinyl runs the show here. They had me at the live Billy Idol album being played through the loud speakers when I walked in, and they made me a lifelong fan with a $12 copy of Alcatrazz's "No Parole from Rock N Roll." The In Groove is a record store run by record fanatics for the rest of us. Never has settling into a groove been this easy. read more

I discovered The"In"Groove a few years ago when I was visiting my daughter in Scottsdale and was very impressed. I now make a point of shopping there every year. I was horrified to stop by this past week and saw they had closed but was relieved to find they'd moved a mile or two into a beautiful new building. I'm mostly into 60's and 70's rock, and their selection is amazing. I agree with some of the other raters who mentioned their pricing being high, but I'm willing to pay extra for clean copies of the albums I want. The 'In' Groove is the Smithsonian of Arizona vinyl records/LP's. They keep an incredible stock of everything related to music and audiophile needs. If it's out there, available, or desirable, Mike has it or will find it. The videos Mike posts on YouTube are both entertaining and informative while maintaining an strong integrity in the pursuit of providing customers with deeply researched and experienced knowledge. The videos make me feel like I am being trained by a wise sage, an audiophile Gandalf or Obi-Wan. Though he is younger than those characters, his expertise is just as extensive and trustworthy. He covers topics regarding everything from the best pressings of classic records to the secret 'in's and out's' of record collecting and investment. You need to subscribe and follow his channel and dive into the videos. Well worth the watch and also quite fun! In person, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Mike and his team are fair in dealings when buying records and cd's from their customers and they will share knowledge and time to help you achieve your collection goals. I've found Mike and his staff to be honest and upfront about what works and what doesn't and what is worth your time and money and what is not. He respects the rich tradition of audiophiles and wants to make all his customers able to enjoy music in the best way possible. Ask him questions and he will give you the right answer, not just the convenient, expedient, or "sales-pitch" one. The 'In' Groove deserves to be held in the highest regard for its customer service and reverence for all things musical. Make this a regular spot on your record collecting journeys, if not the first place you stop. It certainly did not disappoint from the selection and pricepoint, but I was particularly impressed by the fact that each used record is inspected and professionally cleaned and rehabbed, even if they sell it for just a buck! The 'In' Groove is a welcome addition to the crowded Phoenix record store scene. If you are looking for clean or audiophile records, this store has the best selection in the entire state. The bins contain both new and used records and include multiple genres of music from jazz to metal to punk, but rock and roll is still the king, especially the big groups like the Beatles, Pink Floyd, and Led Zeppelin. One of the best features of this store is that all the used records in the bins are ultrasonically cleaned and placed in new outer sleeves. I have never known a record store to do this before, but it is wonderful not to have to deal with dirty, dusty records for a change. The store itself is very clean, and the records are organized and easy to find. The owner is friendly and knowledgeable about music. While the emphasis is on clean and audiophile records, there is also a $2 section for the crate diggers and a small selection of 45s and CDs. Additionally, the 'In' Groove sells supplies for record storage as well as turntables. The turntables are quality products, not the terrible Crosley players or the beat up, broken used ones that Zia has for sale in its stores. If you are planning on selling your records, the 'In" Groove is an excellent choice, as the owner is very aggressively buying collections of quality material. read more

This place is gosh darn amazing. Let's go over it point by point. - It's very clean, super organized, and spacious. I do have a certain appreciation for those shops that are just jam packed with records floor to ceiling but at the end of the day, that environment can be overwhelming to me and impossible to find what I'm looking for. The In Groove is organized so clearly that I can go directly to the areas I want to zone in on with no confusion or muss or fuss. There's enough space people can walk by me without it feeling like I just got intimate with a stranger. You can sit on the floor and rifle through the $1 bins without blocking the whole aisle. It's a pleasure to actually spend time in this shop. - Everything is reasonably priced and fair. This is the only place I've found with Beatles albums under $10. I've gotten super rare items for under $30. Just yesterday I picked up a one out of 400 bootleg fanmade pressing of a now-obscure new wave 80s band for only $22. A must have for a superfan like me and a great price. I can't even find it for sale online for less than $50. I know if I shop here I'm not getting fleeced. - Everything is great playable quality. So far, not a single record I've purchased here has skipped on me when I've played it or had unexpected audio defects. I'm not too fussed about a messed up sleeve as long as the record is in good shape and so far, everything from The In Groove has delivered. - They've got the requisite $1 bins but there is a great variety. More than just 800 copies of Fleetwood Mac's Rumours. I really love big band, 40s, etc, everything in that era, and I am able to pick out a couple great finds every trip. Yesterday I got an album of Tommy Dorsey and Frank Sinatra duos. It's not a rare or special item, but it's going for $3-5 online and it was only a buck here. Great condition and a good addition to my collection. This shop is the epitome of a perfect record shop. If I were richer I'd come more often because I can't seem to stop myself from dropping $40-50 a trip. read more

I've been passing by this place for awhile and I finally stopped in today. The inside is really neat and organized. There's a lot to choose from too. I spotted a New Order album behind the counter but *sigh* it was $65. I did see some affordable gems though like Santo and Johnny and old favorites like Led Zeppelin. They also offer turntables and other accessories. I wasn't expecting too much until I strolled over to The Smiths section... I spied with my little eye an import copy of The Queen is Dead. It set me back $35 bucks but it's in amazing shape and sounds beautiful. I feel that it's rare to find a real life non reissue Smiths album (yes I know I sound like a pretentious twat) and I was pleasantly surprised. That's an understatement, I was jumping up and down squealing with delight. You've won my heart In groove, don't ever change. read more

This is my favorite record store in Phoenix. Like others have mentioned the records are always clean, and on top of that they are usually wrapped in a nice Mylar outer sleeve with a plastic inner sleeve included. This is an awesome record store! Visited yesterday and walked out with an armful of great vinyl, some new-old-stock still sealed. VERY well curated, prices are hella good and outstanding service. Among the gems I got, a NOS Alice Cooper "Muscle of Love" sealed in the original cardboard carton, and Sonic Youth's "Experimental Jet Set, Trash and No Star" re-pressing :) I recommend this shop to any and all who collect vinyl, CDs or really anything! Cool little record shop. I found some good stuff but I only purchased it because of the nice hospitality of the blonde lady working the register and because I really wanted what I found. There was a tall brunette guy there who gave me super dirty looks the entire time I shopped. I even tried to smile and say hello and he continued to glare at me. This is the reason for my 3 stars. Wow! What a record store! Dropped in while visiting the area after reading all the great reviews. I was not disappointed. Left with a small pile of records on my want list. Could have taken ALOT more home with me. Only so much space in my luggage. Convenient location, parking out front. All the other reviews true to their word. Excellent, clean, used vinyl, fairly priced for most part. There were a few I'd say were priced a bit on the high side. I still took home 8. Good tunes playing while browsing, not too loud, not too soft, right genre for the customer age group, just right! Well organized bins with plenty of room to walk and browse. Really good record store. Moved here from Vegas and this place was my first stop- incredible selection. Records: Great stuff that you never see at very reasonable market prices. Also, the records are cleaned by a sonic cleaner- I didn't even have to nitty-gritty them once I got home because they were cleaner than they ever will be again lol. I love this place! Over the last 35ish years, my dad has amassed quite a vinyl LP collection, but due to his illness my family has had to consolidate his things. To our dismay, we found almost a 1,000 records and I think I've schlepped about half all over Phoenix trying to sell them. From east to west valley, this store is by far the best little gem I found! Mike is very knowledgeable about music, and will give you a fair amount if you're selling. As Noelle K said, you can find a dollar record or some pretty expensive ones. Forget about every other store you have heard of or know about. I think I've been to all of them - the scary ones that make you wonder if you're going to get mugged, the well known ones that aren't serious about LP's, or the owners that come across as douche-bags. He also buys/sells the equipment to listen to records. What I've discovered amongst my travels, is that if you are serious about LP's, you have to go to the 'In' Groove. Once I'm done schlepping, I'm headed back to start my own collection! read more
