Went the other day with questions about selling my extensive LP record collection from the 60's-80's. Also questions about turntables. Looking around they have a large collection of LP's from $1.00 to the rare. What was most impressive and commendable was the time and information given to me by the man behind the counter (owner?). He knew I wasn't there to make a purchase but took the time to educate me about turntables and pricing LP's. If I ever decide to do business this will be my go to shop. read more

I love this place because it's like record shopping in a sterile laboratory! It's pretty much all LP's (though they do have a great 7" section too) with an amazing selection and variety. You can spend some serious time here because of the sealed LP's you won't get cardboard fever from sifting through records at length. Check out a nice "WTF" section in the back too they have a lot of fun stuff. I don't think I've ever been to a store that cleans and keeps their stock in as great of shape as this place highly recommend even though prices are a touch on the high end it's worth it. read more

The owner really cares about music; he has VPI cleaning machines working full time and it looks like he inspects each record before putting it out for sale. Fantastic music selection, including heavy metal genre which is not easy to come by. I saw two copies of Pink Floyd's animals for less than $20 each , in good shape. I go to a lot of record stores often, like zias and Stinkweeds, never been here, so me and my girlfriend decided to go and check this place out. Areas kind of crappy but it's so worth it. She loves no doubt and we found some vinyl and posters that you would only find on eBay. Nice feeling to see such cool unique stuff. They have a great selection, and they take great care of their records and have some good audio equipment too. Not to mention some awesome band tees! read more

Worst customer service I've ever experienced in a record store. Tried to return a defective record and got read the riot act! Was told that he would only take the return this one time and if the record I exchanged was defective I would have to take it up with the label even if I opened it in the store in front of him to check to make sure it didn't have any flaws he wouldn't accept it. What a dick!! He went on to tell me that Zia wouldn't even accept any returns after leaving the store which is completely FALSE! He had the worst attitude and this was my first experience in this store and it will be my last! I plan to spread the word about this horrible experience I had there. Shop Zia or even better keep it Local with the original Local First record store, STINKWEEDS. Kimber and her staff will bend over backwards to ensure the best record shopping experience. read more

Love this place so much! Mike's music and vinyl knowledge is unmatched. The used record selection is absolutely massive. The best part is that each and every record is visible in a sleeve allowing for quick and easy test play at their listening station setup. I live in Las Vegas and have been waiting to visit this record store for months. Mike, the owner, is one person who is willing to give you an honest opinion on record quality and pressing to avoid, pass over, or a recommended buy. Well, this week was the ticket. I went to the store three times in five days. Very helpful staff and Mike was the first person to come up to my wife and I and asked if he could help us. Five star experience . Needless to say I bought several "quality" records and a couple of tee shirts. Can't wait for my next trip to Phoenix, Arizona. Clean, fair priced, with a good variation of artists and it looks like it's expanding. The staff is friendly and helpful as well. Worth stopping by if you're scouring record stores for good finds. I was introduced to this record store when I was new to vinyl and now half my collection is from The In Groove. My favorite part is the dollar bins! The dollar bins are incredibly cheap and full of surprises, I never leave empty handed. Highly recommend! read more

what a great record shop! i walked in for the 1st time today and absolutely enjoyed my experience. it's a simple, open, modern looking atmosphere with an abundant selection to choose from. the staff is friendly enough, and they leave you alone to do your shopping. of course they are helpful if you have questions but they trust that you know what you're doing. the new and used records are mixed in together and they're organized simply and logically. I did notice a few records misfiled, so if you don't see what you're looking for where it should be, keep looking. i love seeing local businesses that are done with passion. this is one of them. read more

Terrific record shop in the middle of the desert! Lots of vintage vinyl, every record i inspected rated playable to mint! Prices are competitive and affordable! I visit alot of record stores anytime I travel and this is the best one I've been to hands down. What sets it apart is how well the store is organized and the fantastic condition of the LPs. Almost all used LPs were at least VG+ and in a diskeeper inner sleeve. What other stores mark VG and want $20 for, he says "check condition" $5. Has quite a few new records as well, particularly jazz including several acoustech, music matters audiophile pressings. Rock/pop is ridiculously well stocked. As an example for The Doors he had multiple of each studio album, audiophile pressings, colored vinyl, and Absolutely Live. This is a must visit any time you are in Phoenix/Scottsdale area. Has some cds as well and lots of 45s. read more

To me, this is the ideal record store. The guys who run this place truly care about record collectors and those who are new to record collecting. I have never experienced less than stellar assistance and conversation with the staff. No attitude whatsoever. They have a lot of neat accessories (vintage 45 accordion albums for one), and lots of turntables and stereo equipment. I have been collecting records since I was 11, but still have a bit to learn and the In Groove is a great place to explore vinyl and audio equipment. I always seem to find a rare little gem here when I visit! read more

I don't want to write this review. I want this place to remain a little known treasure. How do I help make it popular enough to stay open, but obscure enough to be able to get what I want with virtually no one else in the store, so I can peruse at my leisure and not bump into others? I drove by several times over the last few months without stopping, with the signage on Thomas I couldn't tell if the place was going to be amazing - much like some of my favorite ethnic food dives - horrific on the outside, but with amazing food; or awful - like a bunch of meth heads bought the $2 records at Goodwill and are now selling them for $5 to feed the habit. Happily, the former is true! The place is relatively small, but very well laid out. Good mix of new and used records - and a very accommodating owner (Mike) who is willing to order in records on request (as he did for me!), and a decent selection of rock and punk albums. There are few record players available of varying quality and price point. Lots of 45's for $1.00, and some CDs for good measure. Sadly, the days of getting screaming good deals on vinyl are over - it's cool again, so now, it's not just a few of us buying. The upside of that, lots of reissues so I've been able to get some treasured old stuff on brand new vinyl (Iggy and the Stooges!). None of it is cheap anymore - but few things worth collecting are. Mike mentioned he gives the best deals on trades in town - so it's time to go through my collection, determine what I don't want anymore - and trade it in for stuff I do! So happy to have found this gem of a place - and so sad for my budget! read more

This place was rad. Super tiny but packed full of everything & and anything you need. Great deals on used vinyls and new vinyls!! Also super rare collectibles at a fair price. I had to get some help picking out a Record Player and the guy was great and he walked me through everything I needed to know, and even told me to come back because they were having a sale soon. Great looking store, friendly clerk, awesome selection, and terrific location for any Arcadia hipster (there's 4 of us). I walked into the store with my son looking for Fleetwood Mac's Tusk on vinyl and expected the price to be too high. I walked out with that and the Clash's Combat Rock on vinyl for a grand total of $15. What a bargain! Both records played beautifully. My son scored some underground hip- hop on pink vinyl. Definitely something for everyone. Btw: the way they package and clean their used vinyl is first class. read more

This place is rad. Pretty excellent collection of vinyl. The guy has an ion-record cleaner and that he uses to clean everything that he puts on the main shelves for sale. Makes for excellent, pristine, clean used records. I spent a couple of hours going through their TONs of dollar bins and found 20 gems. Felt really happy with my finds. Good collection of everything...even Jazz and Blues...which I feel is always the litmus test of a record store's depth. Will come back. read more

After researching several stores, I went to The "In" Groove to do something I really didn't want to do...sell my vinyl collection. Walking into the store took me back decades. It was great to be in a record store again...I felt like I should be buying rather than selling. I'm not an insane collector, but I really enjoy shopping for vinyl memories and picking up an album occasionally. This place has, without reservation, the best quality used vinyl available anywhere in the Valley. They have a good selection of the normal genres (and especially Beatles and Jazz), many Original Masters and new vinyl as well. Love this store! read more
