Like another reviewer I wish I could give 0 stars but it's not an option…read more On March 31st my mom had a TIA (minor stroke) we went to MJH ER and they were great, she stayed there 3 days and was released to a rehab (The Laurels) to work on some left side weakness. Her paperwork said she was a good candidate for rehab. That was all that was wrong with her going in there. I visited every day for hours and brought up my concerns that she was seeming confused. I was told that happens with a lot of people when they come in because they are in a strange place and disoriented. It kind of made sense and I accepted it which I hate myself for now. On the 5th day she was very confused and kept trying to get out of bed on her own. I talked with the nurse and he assured me when I needed to leave for work around 3pm they would put her in a chair by the nurses station to keep an eye and make sure she didn't fall. That evening I got a call at work that she'd fallen out of bed. Why was she in bed? Why weren't they keeping an eye on her? I told them I was leaving work and coming over and he tried to talk me out of it, I went and what I found when I got there broke my heart. My mom was hallucinating and was so weak. I told him I was calling a squad and taking her out. He said I couldn't do that. I pulled the power of attorney from my pocket and said oh yes I can, do you want to call a squad or should I? He still tried to get me to wait til morning which I refused. He finally relented and called a squad. While they were loading her in the squad I noticed an employee in her car and the smell of weed coming from her direction. That about summed up this place. I don't care if you smoke weed, but not when you're taking care of mine, or anyone elses mom! At the ER my mom was diagnosed with severe dehydration, a UTI, pneumonia and a diaper rash from lying in her own urine!!! None of which she had when she went in there. 3 more days in the hospital and she got a bit better but she never got back to herself. She was released to another facility (which was wonderful) but the damage was done. My mom never recovered from her ordeal and passed away on April 23rd.

If I could rate this facility a zero, that would be overrated! I wouldn't be surprised if some of…read morethese reviews were made by staff. The unprofessionalism of the Case Manager, Lynne Radin was horrific and her character displayed no concern about patient care, but more about monetary gain. She assured my family member's daughter that there would be a long-term care bed available for her mother, but recanted once the daughter began complaining about her mother's care. Lynne also went against the daughter's wishes when it came to physical therapy, which also, we felt, played a part in Lynne forcing my family member to be moved from the facility. I am making this post on behalf of my family member. Our family member was placed at The Laurels on January 2, 2024. The entire time she was at this facility, she wasn't given a proper bath. Her daughter had to come to the facility daily to give her mother a full bath, sometimes finding her mother covered in urine and feces. When her daughter would inquire about daily care and request to review the log book to verify baths, mysteriously the staff could never produce records. Her daughter washed her laundry every week and all of her clothes would be drenched in urine and would have to be washed three times to remove the smell. I came to visit from another state some weeks back and had to step out of the room in anger because she was lying on wet sheets, her clothes were drenched, and she had a fever of over 102 degrees, her daughter had to call the staff in the room to check her temperature. She was very clammy when we came in and very out of it. It was evident that no one had checked on her for hours. I watched her daughter give her a bath along with two other staff members. Windows had to be open just to get her temperature down. It was very hard to come to visit a loved one and see this type of treatment. It seems to me that this facility is more about the money rather than authentic patient care. The Case Manager was very angry when my family member's daughter declined their services for physical therapy because she felt her mother didn't have the physical capacity to continue as her health was declining. The Case Manager wanted her to continue so that the money could come to the facility. If anyone is considering this facility, DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT bring your loved one here and expect magnificent care. In closing, avoid LYNNE RADIN, the Case Manager at all costs! I plan to assist in filing every complaint possible against this place until there are changes made for current and future residences.

My 87 year old mother ("the Unicorn" as they called her), was in assisted living at OLOP for 2…read moreweeks in the summer 2020 during the beginning of covid until they threw her out for leaving her room and wandering (she was disoriented with her new place and being unable to leave her room--only masked and repeatedly reprimanded by staff--plus she was not on any meds at that time). Before throwing her out they forced me to stay in her room with her twice saying they would throw her out if I didn't come stay with her, and then a couple days later the head CNA called me at 10:30 am on a Tuesday to say come get her NOW --that she was out! After that my mother then stayed at my house for 6 months until Christmas of 2020 when OLOP took her back, but only in the locked memory care facility. After a year and a half of her doing well in memory care--not belonging there at all--after many meetings I was able to get her moved back to assisted living. In the meantime we had paid a lot more money per month for memory care. When she was moved from one type of care to another they charged us a full month's rent in both places (to and from) because of their "30 day notice policy". So we paid double rent twice while she was there because of their policy even though they were initiating the moving each time She did very well in assisted living until the summer of 2023 when they neglected to keep her on her meds--saying it wasn't their job. She became agitated off her meds and without more than 2 meetings in a short period of time they moved her back to memory care--and again charged us double rent because of the lack of a 30 day notice. She went crazy then not being on her med and being locked up and threatened to climb over the fence and leave. Even though she was 90 plus at the time they said she was a flight risk and that by saying she was leaving she had "discharged herself". They threw her out with no place left to go and no place she could afford in Charlottesville after taking most of her retirement money. They told me as she left they would be willing to take her back if "she changed". Bottom line--they care about their liability and money. Not much compassion that I saw, except for the social worker. I hate to name names but most of the people who were working there in 2023 are still in charge now in 2026. If your parent has plenty of money, is docile and doesn't need much meds or care--send em there.

She was incredibly helpful, patiently answering all of my questions and providing valuable information about the community and surrounding area. When I arrived in Charlottesville, I visited the property and met Margaret. She was extremely friendly, professional, and welcoming. Margaret showed me the apartment, and I was very impressed with how clean and well-maintained both the property and the apartment were. She made the entire leasing process smooth and stress-free. Within just one day, everything was completed, and I received the keys to my new apartment. I highly recommend this property. Everyone here has been exceptionally friendly and helpful, and I'm very happy with my decision to move here. Thank you, Hanna and Margaret, for making my relocation to Charlottesville such a positive experience!

do not move here do not sign a lease…read more I rarely leave negative reviews, but after moving out, I honestly feel people should know what they're paying for here before signing a lease. The rent at this complex is wildly overpriced for what you actually get. I paid around $2,200/month for a one-bedroom apartment under 700 sq ft, and it honestly felt more like an extended-stay hotel than a home. They raised rent repeatedly while offering almost no real improvements or amenities. The "amenities" are incredibly misleading. Carpet is literally listed as an amenity on their website, which says everything. When we first moved in, residents were told we'd have access to the basketball and tennis courts, but then access became restricted. The clubhouse was constantly unavailable after certain hours due to vague "paperwork" excuses, and the pool closed absurdly early during summer months. For the amount residents are paying, there is very little actual value. The buildings themselves are inconvenient and poorly maintained. No elevators, disgusting hallways at times, minimal privacy on balconies, and dog waste frequently left around the property despite the luxury image they try to sell. Management was another major issue. Some staff members were polite, but others came across as dismissive, snooty, and unwilling to listen to resident concerns. It often felt like tenants had no voice despite paying premium prices. The move-out experience was what finally pushed me to leave this review. I cleaned my apartment thoroughly from top to bottom because I specifically wanted to leave it in excellent condition. I was then accused of pet urine damage throughout the apartment, which is simply not true. Anyone who knows my dogs knows they are house-trained. It honestly felt like they were looking for reasons to keep deposits and charge additional fees. Also be very careful reviewing lease dates and renewal timing. The lease structure felt intentionally designed to push residents into paying beyond a standard month-end cycle, which can create extra costs when moving out. At the end of the day, replacing carpet between tenants -- especially in pet-friendly apartments charging luxury-level rent -- should not come as some shocking expense to management. That's part of maintaining rental property. Charging premium prices while cutting corners everywhere else leaves a bad impression. This place markets itself as luxury living, but in my experience it did not deliver luxury service, luxury amenities, or luxury treatment of residents.
