If you're looking for a cheap but clean place to stay for work or a quick trip, this is a great choice. If you are searching through Hershey for a traveler motel that won't fill you with despair and disgust you've found it. For the price, this is a five star hotel. Reader, if you are looking for a better experience at this price point, you are not going to find it in any popular town in the U.S. I've spent the last few years of my career checking many of them. I have to assume the poor reviews predate a renovation and/or management change, or that some people's expectations for a ~$100 motel in a tourist town are way too high. I have stayed in a lot of travel motels like this for work, and there are cheap bad hotels and cheap good hotels - I would say this is a good one. The beds were well made and clean, the mattresses pass the flip test, and the bathroom was very clean as well. The carpets in the room were properly vacuumed. No dust bunnies in the corners. There is some highway traffic noise beginning around 6am, but this motel is next to the highway. If you're staying anywhere like this you should bring earplugs anyway. The shower is hot and the water pressure is strong. Lots of these budget places have stopped cleaning rooms nightly during a stay, but this one does. The tub in my room could use to be refinished. I don't think anything else here is in real need of a renovation. And, the people working here are really, genuinely nice. I did not expect the doorman at midnight on a weekday to be so friendly as I checked in and that is really appreciated after a long day of travel. I honestly don't know how the reviews are so bad. It's not high line but a perfectly fine place to stay, especially at this price point. We had no issues. Stayed here overnight for a concert in august. Easy Uber ride to the stadium. Check in was a breeze. Room was clean. Nice size fridge that worked well. Enjoyed the pool area. They are strict about no alcohol outside the rooms so be sure to bring something to drink from to contain it discreetly if you plan on enjoying some adult beverages by the pool. It seems that a lot of this hotel's traffic comes from people searching for the cheapest hotel options in the area. We were roadtripping and didn't make plans in advance, as we didn't know how far we were going to go each day. We found the "cheapest" option through a third-party booking, but after all the fees and extra stuff they added, it ended up being cheaper to book direct! I'm glad the guy at the front desk walked us through all of that. All the staff we encountered during our stay were pleasant enough. From all the reviews and pictures I've seen, the rooms seem to have been recently re-done. It wasn't the cleanest, but it had more of a new feeling to it. The beds were comfortable. The pillows were plush. Great place to rest your head for a night. If I was staying longer than one or two nights I probably would have found a slightly more comfortable hotel chain that I have rewards points with. The AC unit in our room was so filled with dust, it's kind of incredible that it was still working. The whole place could use a little more cleaning and attention to detail. The continental breakfast was alright. The egg were actually cooked. Freshly cooked food was consistently being replenished. The one toaster oven was plugged in but not working. Lots of options here. The swimming pool was cool and refreshing in this heat. I'm thinking this is a salt water pool, because I didn't get that familiar chlorine-sting in my eyes. Hot tub was closed. This is our second time staying here. Yes it is an older place so if you want to a new, fancy, loud hotel, with all the new conveniences, this is not your place. What you do get is a room that has room to actually move in, a comfortable bed and is quieter than the newer places as the walls are old style thick. Only down side is the front rooms you can hear the highway. On the plus side, it has those thicker walls so noise is only through the window and once asleep, you don't hear it (I am a light sleeper). Would give it five stars but the shower needs some caulking and one outlet the plugs fall out of. A good place if you are looking for a clean, comfortable bed to sleep in. read more

The bad reviews are just perplexing to me...we just spent 2 nights in the Cocoa Suite and a room right near it for extended family -- altogether a group of 10. If you are looking for a five star hotel, this isn't it. It IS a small, clean, basic sleep accommodation...and for the price we paid, it met and even exceeded expectations. Our group was very well accommodated. The rooms were cleaned and towels refreshed on the over night stay. Breakfast was plentiful with lots of options both mornings. Free coffee and tea in the main lobby 24/7. Pool was clean, and the kids loved splashing around after a long day at Hersheypark. Yes, it's right off the highway so if you aren't used to the sound, it might bother you, but glass half full, it's super close to everything...and just 10 minutes from Hersheypark. Like folks, adjust your expectations. This is not the Hotel Hershey. Compared to other places in similar price ranges, it's great. To the owners, I would add that maybe a few upgrades and better decorating would help -- it's the Inn on Chocolate Avenue -- and yes, the hallways smell like chocolate -- but nothing else says "your at the sweetest place on earth" -- few more photos on the walls and maybe some cute decorations would go a long way in people's Perception. My friend and I recently visited this place and I cannot stress how important it is for you to steer clear from it. The employees were nice but the place was a wreck. We had to switch our room because there was hair all over the shower, barely any AC, and no towels or hotel necessities to speak of. When we switched rooms, it was a bit better but none of the keys worked to get in the room. None of them. Then to my surprise in the chair closest to my bed there was a used tampon just lying there near the armrest. Mold on the shower curtain was totally a thing too. This really got me grossed out. Imagine you or your child coming into contact with that, especially right now. I know that Covid is a thing right now, but why on Earth wouldn't you offer breakfast? Use gloves. This place is disgusting! I walked into my room and was afraid to sit on the bed in fear of bed bugs or something worse. The girl at the front desk was rude, talking on her phone on a personal call while checking me in, the breakfast they offer is a grab and go in paper bags, they don't have curtains, only a sheer shade, the mattresses are so old they're sunk in. The bathtub and bathroom floors are grimy and filthy. I paid $154 after taxes for this room and I didn't stay. I walked in and stayed long enough to find another hotel nearby. SLEEP IN YOUR CAR BEFORE YOU SLEEP HERE! This is one of those filthy hotels that you just hear about, but never see in real life! The stairs and hallway to the room was a preview of what was to come. It looked as if a vacuum hadn't been used in weeks. The air conditioning unit in the room was clogged with debris. A child's toy was out in the open, not hidden under furniture or hard to see. If anyone cleaned the room, they would have easily seen it. But they didn't see it because they don't clean. I have shared with you all I stayed to see before I went straight to the desk and demanded a refund - as did all the others in our party, about 10 other families. Booked a room for 2 nights. After searching the room, we found bed bugs in the dresser. We went down to the main desk to discuss the issue with someone. The owner went up with us to the room and was discussing that there were no bed bugs we even showed a picture of the bed bug and denied it was a bed bug stating, "Bed bugs are on beds. Not on dressers." Found an article from Orkin: 'Bed bugs do not have a preference for wood or metal. They hide in narrow harborages close to where the potential host sleeps. This might be anywhere within several feet of the bed (baseboards, dressers, nightstand).' I wish I had read the Yelp reviews before booking. This place was rundown and the service was poor. While the rooms seemed fine, many things were broken and the response from staff was not even remotely apologetic. Spent over $300 for a two day stay to visit Hershey Park (mostly for the pool gif kiddos) and would never return. WiFi didn't connect for two days for any iPhones and they simply handed out sheets of paper with trouble shooting phone number (?!), door knobs & key cards for several doors (bedroom & door to pool) simply didn't work (on & off two days). They turned off our room key early so we couldn't access room at 9:30 pm with sleepy kiddo. Attitude of staff when we reported door key problems, Wi-Fi problems, etc. was to shrug it off, deny, or get defensive. Hallway carpet and main lobby needs work. Breakfast area was crowded & hard to navigate. Food wasn't tasty and little variety. Bucket of liquid slops in dining area really smelly and gross. Pool was nice but right on highway side of building facing parking lot (not made clear in marketing photos) so you hear the constant hum of speeding cars. Pros: Proximity to park (10 mins) and two bottles of free water at check in. Free coffee 24/7 which is more than you'll get at other places! read more

This is not to say this is a 5 star hotel, it's not. But, for the price and location my wife and I could not have been happier. We stayed, along with her dog, 3 nights during Thanksgiving eve, day of and black Friday. Room was spacious, very large tv, nice fridge, plenty of storage, comfy beds. Only negative was a tiny toilet. Location is perfect for Hersheypark, eateries and shopping. Everyone who worked there was extremely pleasant and helpful. Pool was closed, but looked very nice, and pretty large. All in all we had an absolutely great time, and certainly plan on returning to this establishment the next time we are in the area. Even had a decent enough breakfast to fill your belly before heading off to whatever journey you have planned for the day. This place was horrible!! When I arrived with my pets they gave me a room where the door was kicked in, there was puke on the floor, and the wall paper was torn off the walls and the lights didn't work. When I complained to management, they gave me another room but that wasn't much better either. There was mold on the floor and shower curtain, the window curtains where torn and I had to zip tie them together just to keep them closed. The wall paper was torn and there was trash underneath the beds. The room smelled musty. The continental breakfast was horrible as well. I went to get a muffin and a donut and the donut was spoiled. The food tasted like it was frozen and thawed several times over. Also the security door that was supposed to remained locked for guest safety was tapped opened because the door didn't work. The bathroom was dirty. Chords not tacked down so we were tripping all over them. We paid for one night at the Hershey Lodge but 2 nights would have been pretty pricy so we decided on staying at the Inn at Chocolate Ave. I went to check us in after leaving the lodge which was right across the street. I had a problem with the fridge not working which I informed the office just so they were aware. I was then given another room which was pretty nice of them. It was cold enough outside to just leave the food/drinks in the car but it was nice to get a working fridge. The continental breakfast was good my kids loved the waffle maker. This is not an Inn, it is a old motel and it has not been remolded, it has been redecorated. As we where driving from NY to Hershey my bored teenager started reading me all the 1 star reviews and I was very nervous as I checked in. However, I realize many of the poor reviews are probably due to high expectations. Because the building is so old, the bathrooms are very small and the recent new carpet glue was probably bad smelling the first few weeks but the smell was gone when we stayed. Because the building is so old it is very quit. An over tired toddler screaming in the hallway could not be heard once in the room next door. I had 2 rooms for the extended family and kids and the price was half what the next motel was and 20% of the Hershey Hotels. We had an issue with the key card not working and the staff has very helpful getting it resolved. Because the staff was so helpful and some reviews are overly harsh I wanted to give it 3 stars but my wife did have bites consistent with bedbugs a few days home... read more

I am extremely disappointed in this motel. Upon arrival, a friend and I overheard another group talking to a manager about bedbugs. We proceeded to check our room. Along with the smell in the room, the sheets were absolutely disgusting. They had stains, hair and bugs all over the place. We went to the front desk, asking for a refund, and the gentleman asked for a card and told me I would be reimbursed within the next 2-3 business days. Those days came and passed with my refund no where in sight. I called the inn and asked them when I can expect my refund, and the girl didn't want to hear it, nor was she helpful. I had booked from hotels.com, and the girl told me to call them. I had said I don't really understand that, as my friend and I were physically at the hotel and asking for a refund due to the place being disgusting. I'm just going to copy and paste the issues we had; Door to room was open when we arrived, No chairs to sit, broken faucet, broken tub drain plug - it's actually missing, tub does not drain, battery missing from smoke detector, electrical wires dangling in the hallway, uncovered electrical outlets, no refrigerator in rooms, pools has structural cracks just above water line, hot tub out of service, ice machine out of order, vending machines out of order, stains on the hallway carpet, room has a funky odor like the smell of trash, no phone in room, power cord missing from TV, large eating area but breakfast not offered. Overall, place is very dated - 1970s decor and possibly the last time maintenance was performed. Deadbolt broke while exiting room for the day. Worst hotel I've ever been to... We arrived to see that the hotel itself was in poor shape outside. The lobby had a sign that said not serving breakfast, the pool was so dirty you could catch a disease. We headed to our room the hallway lights were flickering it looked like something from the shinning. We entered our room immediately I noticed there was giant spiders everywhere! Definitely a infestation of them. Really creeped me out the webs were running from one bed to another! It was like a horror movie. The air conditioner was broken the fridge was leaking and broken. Made the top of my worst hotels to stay at list. We went back to the lobby to say what we saw. They manager didn't apologize at all but did give us another room. This next room didn't have spiders but it was pretty bad as well but at least we were able to sleep in one of the beds. The one bed had stains on it which looked like blood.. the wall paper was swelling up with water damage from I assume the roof. Smelled a little funky. There was thick hair on the beds from I assume the cleaning lady. But honestly if I was the cleaning lady here as well I wouldn't give a crap either the place is a total dump. The people staying there were really shady even looked like some were living there all year round. Chain smokers 24/7 outside the building. The first floor smelled like a drug plant. Yeah don't ever book a room here. Also we were trying to sleep and people were doing fireworks all night long one even landed on my car. The walls are paper thin. I had to yell to tell the people to take it down a notch so some people could sleep. The noise here was ridiculous. This place should be shut down. I called and explained that I didn't really need to cancel just to reschedule for another date. Do not stay here if you can avoid it!. The only reason I am giving it a 1 instead of no stars are 2 of the 3 ladies at the front desk were very nice and helpful. This place should have been cheaper or gave us a discount due to all the issues and deception from the description on line. It was filthy, the hallway carpets were dirty and didn't look like they were vacuumed in a while. When checking in we were told they were short staffed and to ask before 3pm every day if we wanted our rooms serviced. The first room we got the door would not shut and lock, there were dirty towels on top of the closet and the fridge didn't work. They gave us another room which worked better but there was no microwave, There were rust/brown spots behind the toilet and it was dirty. The beds were decent and sheets were clean. I've stayed in worse so was trying to make the best of it. The breakfast was not a continental breakfast, it was a cold muffin, fruit cup and granola bar in a paper bag. One day they ran out of coffee lids so couldn't take my coffee with me. The side door did not work with any key card and the last night, none of the doors worked with key cards. The toilet almost overflowed and when I went to the front desk to ask for help, was told to check the back of the toilet and try to fix it myself!!! After I demanded help, they acted as if I was in the wrong even though we had not been in our room all day and didn't use it until we got back. The pool was filthy and looked to need a good cleaning. Maybe even a "shock" treatment. If you do swim don't wear goggles or you will be grossed out. Would definitely recommend spending a little more for somewhere else. read more

Upon arrival we were greeted by friendly check-in staff. The beds were comfortable and the hallway noise was very minimal; however that is where the positive attributes end. The cabinet housing the refrigerator was warped and would not stay closed. When we opened it we found an apartment sized refrigerator that was rusted and leaking water. The water was pooling under the appliance and causing mold and mildew in the cabinet. The window curtains would not stay closed. The outside door to gain access to the hotel was NOT locked even though they said we would need a keycard to enter. The carpet entering the room was torn away like a dog or cat had been left unattended. Overall the room was clean, but the carpet felt dirty. There were no comforters or extra blankets anywhere to be found. After the first night we left our towels in the room, and out belongings on the bed which typically indicates we didn't need maid service. When we returned the beds were made but there were no clean towels. The towels we used the day before were removed. I called the desk at 8:30 asking for towels and was told they didn't have any and didn't anticipate having some until after 11:00. Unfortunately we were forced to use bed sheets as towels because there was no other option. The hotel was filled to capacity due to the state wrestling tournament that happens every single year. Their lack of preparing to provide standard hotel service was totally unacceptable. our stay at the inn at chocolate avenue was not the best. first of all when we checked into the hotel it was not like pictured on the website. the rooms and lobby didn't not look what was pictured and put on the website. the door that is supposed to be the "security door" and have to use a key to access is always open so anyone can walk through this whole hotel. rooms are out dated and the hallways smell like cigarette smoke. even though there are no smoking signs all over the hotel. our room was not cleaned out of the 3 nights we stayed. we didn't get new towels and the trash was not taken. it looks like some of the guests are living here instead of only staying here. the employees do not wear masks at the hotel. the only employee that wears a mask is the one who sits at the front desk. also, the room keys do not work for the rooms. you have to get them reprogrammed every time you leave. the beds are very uncomfortable, you can feel the springs of the bed when you lay down. also, the outlets in the rooms do not work. i asked for extra towels for the shower and they gave us pool towels instead of regular full size shower towels. no complaints about pool area. when walking around hotel you will notice a lot of rooms are just open and no one will be staying in that room. the only plus of staying here was being very close to hersheypark. read more

inn at chocolate avenue 84 sipe avenue hummelstown pa i would never recommend this place to one. they are pet friendly. i brought my two cats with me. when i got to my room i found a mouse trap. what if i didn't find that mouse trap and one of my cats got snapped from it. what was on that trap POSION. not very pet friendly if u ask me. i went to the desk told the staff at the desk. i was told by the girl ohhh yeah we have been having problems with mice. i was told they were in the back end of the hotel. and they haven't seen any mice in 3 months. i was offered a different room. i went to check it out and found mouse droppings in the drawers. went to my room and found mouse droppings in my drawers. wow u haven't seen them in 3 months. shows how well u DO NOT CLEAN THE ROOMS. they offer a free continental breakfast which i was not told when i made my reservation that they were not serving the continental breakfast. the girl at the desk told me thats why they are not serving the continental breakfast because the mice are up here now.ohhh i thought you haven't seen any mice in three months. all the products used to service the breakfast were up on tables and counter tops. (coffee filters, cups, etc etc etc) wait shouldn't they be thrown away could u imagine a mouse droppings on coffee filters that they will most likely use to make coffee. i was leaving the hotel i saw raid mouse traps in the office.
