The breakfast is a work of art. Fruit cups, yogurt eggs with ham and cheese. Freshly made crepes with bananas and homemade Carmel sauce. There is a microwave and dishes, silverware and cooler with sodas and water upstairs with couches and games. Fresh baked cookies outside your room in the evening. There is fishing and crabbing on site. If you don't have the equipment they Wii loan you what you need. There is also a pool, several swings and chairs outside. Everything is so tastefully done and welcoming. There is also a small elevator to get suitcases and people upstairs.

I found the Foreman house and fell in love. The accommodations are perfect.. Large rooms and modern fixtures in a colonial style home. The owners and operators, Mel and Andy are everything you would want to find when you check in and more! Breakfast is tasty and served at whatever time you wake up. My favorite thing about staying at the Foreman House is pulling in. It feels like coming home. The Foreman House is the place to stay in Elizabeth City.

We were booked into the inn by a client who wanted to make our first visit to Suffolk a memorable one. The home is a true Southern belle - a grand dame of historic mansions. It has been so lovingly restored and is perfectly appointed. We had so much fun exploring every inch of the home and absorbing its character. The proprietor (and very talented chef) Ruth has mastered the art of hospitality, inviting us to truly make the home our own. She didn't mind one bit that we planted ourselves in the reclining leather chairs in the stately octagonal library with another couple and yakked enthusiastically until the wee hours. After a blissful night sleep, breakfast the following morning was a marvelous affair. We prepped a coffee for ourselves at the Nespresso machine (fantastic!) and meandered around the grounds until the heavenly smell of baking croissants lured us to the elegant, light-filled breakfast room. Usually an eat-and-run proposition for us, we lingered for over an hour enjoying the delectable food and the conversation with the other guests. The charm of the house and its gracious owner had worked its magic - we were refreshed, satiated and inspired. We departed with great reluctance but the spirit of the Truitt house hung about us for the rest of the day and onto the next as we traveled home. This place has that without losing its original charm from 1909. Because I'm here for work, I'm purposely spending all my time at the house when not on location and I love to be able to move from study to library to the atrium and other rooms in order to read and for a change of atmosphere. There are no hotels in the historic downtown area of Elizabeth City which is why we choice the B&B route (didn't want to drive). We did not stay in the main house but in the adjacent building. It turned out good for us. The building is nice, more private and the rooms have a private bathroom. You get access to the main house as well as the tavern. The tavern is very cool. Nice bar, seating area and a TV. You have to bring your own booze since they don't have a liquor license. Plenty of parking at the house for guest, all complimentary. You also get access to the pool in the back but it was not open when we were there (winter). The owners Mike and Holly were great and provided excellent information and recommendations on Elizabeth City.

The Inn at Four Eleven York was a very different story. The staff were extremely pleasant and accommodating! From the moment we walked in the front door I was hooked. Very nicely decorated, it smelled fantastic, and we were greeted so warmly. Our room was small but so clean and well appointed with a comfy bed and a nice shower. Dinner was fantastic next door and breakfast was very pleasant in a sunny room on the first floor. The owner's refurbished this Inn and did a fantastic job. We used to own a very small 5 star boutique hotel and I know how difficult it is to keep people happy. They're doing a great job!

They also have plenty of coffee and a tea station that I particularly loved with an array of options and even teapots on hand. The grounds are beautiful with plenty of blooming flowers and green space to enjoy yourself and hang out. We particularly liked the very friendly koi in the koi pond which came over to say hi when we approached.
