They did an excellent job preserving the history and charm of this beautiful mansion. The place is clean and service is top notch... though I'd suggest skipping the breakfast and getting better grub in town. I especially appreciate them going above and beyond with mailing me a dress I left behind in my room. Will stay here again if I'm in town.

For starters, no one answered the door when we arrived to check in mid-afternoon, and--ONLY because we knew how to do this--we had to track down the innkeeper, Martha, via the back door. (After 7:30 pm, no one is there at all.) When Martha gave us our keys she declared that she had only these two, so we'd better give them back. Nice touch. I know an elevator cannot be installed, but could they not hire a high school kid to answer the door AND drag the luggage upstairs? As for the breakfast, the staff sets specific half-hour intervals for serving and then leaves your dish on the table to get cold if you don't arrive at the first moment. But the meal is not worth it, anyway: the same four mediocre and skimpy choices, offered every single morning; no cold cereal or fruit and muffins left out as an alternative; and we were warned that unless we filled out the breakfast order the night before we would get nothing, as the staff "cannot accommodate walk-ins." For this we paid megabucks???? I won't make this longer by cataloguing how wonderful this place used to be when it had a live-in and enthusiastic manager, but trust me, it was a real gem and everything one could want in a fine B&B. I know it's been sold and all I can figure is that the new owners tried to cut costs...such a shame.

It is beautifully lit at night. The rooms are clean, nice, and homey. The continental breakfast has a nice selection of foods and coffees and teas. But what really makes this hotel is the proprietor, Joe. He is warm, friendly, and witty. He is low-key and provides a type of customer service that is uniquely his own. This place wouldn't be the same without him. He gives this hotel its kind personality. Joe is a Host to his guests, as opposed to a Hotel Manager. He provides his guests with bikes, as well as umbrellas when it's raining. -- He thinks of everything. Further, Joe is an animal-lover. He was instrumental in founding a retirement place for race horses. The place is called Old Friends. It is for older horses who have completed their racing and breeding years. There is no other place like it. I highly recommend this hotel, and obviously, Joe.

(Apologies for any misspelled/incorrect names.)…read more We stayed at the Union Gables Inn on June 23, 2026. We stayed in the Linda Room, which was located on the third floor of the Inn. The room was spotless, beautiful, and clean. It had all antique furniture, which was all functional and worked without any signs of decay. The bed was wonderfully made, and nothing was out of place during our stay. The television and air-conditioning worked as intended. I attempted to take a shower mid-Tuesday afternoon. After turning on the hot water, I waited a good few minutes for the hot water to actually heat up. Not really anyone's fault; it just took a while. We were on the third floor of an older building - this was fine. The next morning, when I attempted to shower again, the hot water arrived quicker, but when trying to turn the heat down, it took a while. So, the heat in the shower is slow to respond. The staff were amazing. Justin, who resides on the grounds of the inn, was an awesome person who had answers and kindness to every situation that arose. My wife recently became disabled (getting her to the third floor was a bit of work); Justin asked if we wanted breakfast to be brought to her, instead of her coming down. We declined that, she would want to dine in the main dining hall. He was great with suggestions, super courteous, and overall awesome. When we had breakfast the morning of the 24th, Chad was the gentleman taking our order. He was a great person who regaled us with stories, gave us a good laugh, and made sure our orders were correct (wife is also allergic to dairy). He absolutely made the experience better, even if we were at the very tail end of our stay there. The breakfast was excellent; we both ended up eating a sausage breakfast bowl with salsa, bacon, and eggs (I had cheese on mine). Delicious. This is a clean, professional bed and breakfast that is worth returning to.

Our whole experience was fantastic. Matt greeted us upon arrival and showed us to our lovely room called "Bill". I was surprised at how spacious and comfortable the room was. The gas fireplace was an added bonus. The shower pressure was fantastic and the bed was firm but comfortable. There was even a cute little balcony. House keeping also did a wonderful job of keeping our room clean and tidy. Breakfast each morning exceed our expectations. I was happy there was a little menu and was told they could pretty much customize anything I'd like. Chad was super personable and always engaged us in good conversation. You could tell how passionate he is about working there. The Inn itself was charming and I enjoyed the Victorian decor. Each day little treats were left in the lobby. The chocolate chip cookies were delicious!! The location was perfect and very walkable to Broadway Street and surrounding areas. We found that a lot of stores were still dog friendly, even during the winter. I definitely recommend The Sacred Spa during your stay. I learned that the owner and his wife also own the spa. The space was stunning and my husband and I had some of the best spa services ever. Overall, I would definitely return for another stay! The customer service was superb. This was probably one of our favorite Bed and Breakfast experiences. The Spa was such an amazing addition!

The restaurant next door is marvelous too. I booked a room on the second floor with a balcony and had been looking forward to enjoying a summer evening, and sitting outside in my private little spot with a cool drink. There was a small hiccup with the plan. The building was just recently painted and the door was stuck from the outside. This was a significant disappointment especially after spending time choosing the perfect room for my needs. To be fair, the owner contacted me after my stay and graciously offered to refund a portion of my stay. I appreciated the acknowledgement. But here's the thing you should know about the BB&B. With the exception of breakfast, it's a "contactless" experience. Now while I'm sure that was a marvelous advantage in the COVID years, and for some less social or introverted folks, it felt a little cold and odd for me. This is the reason for the missing star. You get a text for the front door code once your room is ready. Your old-school keys are awaiting you on top of the dresser. If there are any issues, there is a phone number to call. In my case, I called the number, but there wasn't anything the person I reached on the phone could do, especially since they were off site. Breakfast was a bright spot. That is where I met Sarah who took great care of me, live and in person. As opposed to so many hotels that offer a complimentary breakfast, this one was delicious and very civilized. There were menus. There was fresh ripe fruit sliced up and served in a bowl. And I can't tell you how much I appreciated some actual human contact at the B&B. If I wanted to pick some more nits, the room wasn't the cleanest. Maybe it had something to do with dust getting in from the painting project. Bedbugs can happen anywhere, even at the fanciest hotels in the world, so I'm always fastidious about checking beds with a fine tooth comb wherever I stay. Beyond some grime on a pillowcase there was some dried blood on the mattress liner. I'm not super squeamish, and I didn't bring up the issue to management in the moment, since I was focused on the sealed balcony door. That said, I would still absolutely consider returning. I kinda hate most hotels and despite a few unexpected quirks and hiccups, BB&B was a comfortable, convenient, and (mostly) charming place to stay in Saratoga Springs.
