The Inn at Swarthmore has been my "go-to" hotel for staycations and need respite's from the city. I've also previously recommended this hotel to others who seek a more quiet experience than what's offered via the hotels in Philly. However, the most recent renovations made at the hotel have negatively impacted my opinion of the establishment. ROOMS Let me first start by saying The Inn at Swarthmore had some of the largest rooms I encountered in a hotel establishment. In layout, they closely resembled a dorm which made sense because of the relative closeness to Swarthmore college. The hotel recently made renovations that decreased the size of the standard rooms by at least 50%. In addition, I encountered an issue with the bathroom no longer having working exhaust fans which can create an issue in the future for a buildup of bacteria, mold and mildew. SERVICE The service I received at The Inn at Swarthmore has always consistently been a top above average and I've never encountered an issue. Besides the issue with the room, I always marvel at the wood used throughout the establishment. Despite the beauty of the establishment , the changes made to the rooms have changed my perspective of the establishment and I can no longer recommend it as the greatest value proposition.

Just checked into my room here --- the free parking is great, the lobby is inviting and the checking desk is welcoming as well. Checked out the restaurant on site, reservations at 5pm! Can't wait. The room, an accessible room is spacious. The view of the town is nostalgic. Dinner was Fantastic, great food great service. Went down for breakfast and got the same great food, iffy service but the food made up for that. Housekeeping was great!

We had the pleasure of hopping on the shuttle this morning with Mr. T, who is also extremely kind and friendly, and got us to the hotel, where the cruise terminal was being managed out of. However, this wasn't my best experience. My week-long stay was for business and after a long drive I was definitely ready to check in, since check in began at 3. However, upon my arrival, NO ROOMS WERE READY AT ALL! MY ROOM WAS READY ALMOST 3 HOURS AFTER CHECK IN. So of course I'm very annoyed and tired because I needed to refresh before my dinner plans. The lobby isn't very big and is awkwardly decorated so there isn't much space for a bunch of waiting travelers and all of their luggage. After almost an HOUR of waiting on my room, my Hilton app notified me that my room was ready for check in and asked me to check in online. Of course, when I tried to do it, it didn't work. However, it did provide me a room number. I go back to the hostess and I said my app notified me that my room was ready, she DIDN'T even look in the computer before saying it was incorrect. I said well it gave me a room number can you please look. Well she "looked" and said the room wasn't ready. So I go back over and wait maybe 30ish MORE minutes. At this time another worker (not sure of his position, but wasn't a host) came down and began talking to the hostess. After some time I heard him saying something about some rooms being ready and I heard the room number my app assigned me being discussed and the man said OH THAT ROOM HAS BEEN DONE FOR A WHILE NOW, MAYBE 20 or 30 MINUTES. I was beyond annoyed and looked over and the hostess say me and immediately called me over to check in. I said didn't I ask you about that room 30 mins ago and you made me wait?! WORST CHECK IN EVER! Ok, so I get off on the 2nd floor and it has the most foul smell either of mildew/mold or urine that immediately smacks you as soon as you get off of the elevator. My room was clean for the most part, my biggest thing was the mold behind the free toiletry dispensers in the shower, the heavy stains on the fabric couch which I refused to sit on and the dirty white chair that was at the desk. The pillows were soft but the bed was a little firm. And for some reason the carpets on the 2nd floor never seemed to be vacuumed like at all. I saw toenail clippings and various dirty like directly outside of my door that I would push away. On Monday I came back during lunch and saw a room attendant and asked her to please vacuum and she told me she couldn't and barely spoke English so I said Nevermind. Also on Monday night, I emailed my tax exempt form to a staff member to ensure my account was properly charged. On Thursday afternoon, I texted the customer service number provided to ensure that my tax exempt form was reflected on my account so that I could EASILY check out early the next morning. But of course, I was told that it was not shown on my account. I provided the name of the person that I emailed it to and about 20 mins later the person said they saw it and it was credited to my account. So early on Friday morning, I'm expecting to get my receipt and leave... a less than 30 second process right? WRONG!!!! my account was charged taxes of course since it WASN'T credited like the other person said LITERALLY less than 12 hours prior. So then the guy says he doesn't even see a tax exempt form for me. What did the other girl see?! I had to stand there and email it to this person 2x and then he printed a paper copy that I had to manually fill in. So checking out became a 30 min process and there were other ppl waiting so then he took them and I had to wait. I do not like this hotel at all and if I ever need to come back to Ridley Park for another conference, I REFUSE to stay here.

Got back to my room and discovered she charged me for my room in addition to putting a hold on my card for "incidentals". I paid when I booked. That was another 10 minutes at the front desk. The room itself is fine. Bedding is clean, floor is clean. However, the air conditioner sounds like a jet engine when it kicks on. It is so loud that it woke me out of a dead sleep, twice. The toilet is absolutely disgusting. It looks like no one has put a brush in there in two weeks. I went to take a shower this morning and I don't dare even turn the water on because there is a huge crack in the floor of the tub. I told them at the front desk (so they didn't think I did it) and she said they knew. ‍ Breakfast is OK. They do have hot foods which some places are not doing anymore, so that is a plus. But there is no orange juice or apple juice, just cranberry and a disgusting lemonade. And they don't replenish. Get there early or don't get fed. EDIT: Day 2: breakfast starts at 6:30. I have been down there twice and it's not open yet. It's 7:42. There are a bunch of little things that let you know their staff doesn't do a thorough cleaning. Like the microwave had 7 seconds left on it, so I know it wasn't cleaned. A dirty sock left in the cubby. My phone didn't charge overnight because the wall plug is worn out and my drinks in the mini fridge froze overnight. And there is an ironing board but no iron. Even without the disgusting toilet and cracked tub, there are soooooo many little things, I would never stay here again. Update: they charged me again for my second night. I had to explain the whole thing again, from the start. Another 20 minutes at the front desk.

Instead, we walked into a lobby full of exhausted guests waiting because the hotel's computer system had crashed. Standing behind the desk was one employee--Arnold--handling 15-20 frustrated travelers completely on his own. While management and corporate worked remotely to solve the issue, Arnold was the one keeping everyone calm, handing out waters and snacks, communicating constantly, and somehow turning a room full of strangers into a room full of people laughing and talking. About an hour and a half later, every guest was checked in. The system failure wasn't Arnold's fault, and neither was being left alone to handle it. Management unfortunately failed him. What could have been a tremendously stressful and disastrous situation was somehow saved by Arnold. He showed incredible professionalism, kindness, and grace under pressure. If management reads this, I hope they recognize what an exceptional employee they have. Thank you, Arnold, for turning a frustrating night into a memorable one. The five star rating is for Arnold. The 2 Queen bed room that we stayed in was designed and laid out like any other SpringHill Suites hotel we've stayed in with the shower and toilet placed in separate rooms. However, the room and hotel, in general, had signs of it being worn out a bit - like old elevators and cracks. The complimentary breakfast, which goes from 6-9 AM on weekdays and 7-9:30 AM on weekends, was subpar compared to our other SpringHill Suites experiences. They did have a hot breakfast, but the scrambled eggs and turkey sausage patties weren't great and mostly dry. There were some cereals, bagels and oatmeal, but that was pretty much it when it came to the food. As for beverages, they had your typical juices (apple, orange, cranberry), individual chocolate and reduced fat milks (which was nice) and coffee. Oh, and to top off the subpar experience, they charge you $15 per night if you park here. Don't think I've ever paid to park at a Marriot hotel, but there's always a first. Overall, not the best Springhill Suites, but it's probably still better than 90% of hotels out there.

This included a jackhammer sound, sanding, drilling and such. Furthermore, we soon realized that the fitness center was closed not due to broken equipment yet as they were using it to store air conditioners for the construction. None of this was disclosed on the website when making a reservation, at check in, or in written communication in the room. When I expressed that I was uncomfortable with this sub-standard level of service--which does not reflect the Wyndham brand--her immediate response was completely unprofessional: "Oh, you wanna cancel?
