A beautiful hotel, and definitely has a classic look. This is a great option to host a wedding, and I particularly enjoy coming to the Playhouse theater to see shows. I will say the only thing they need to fix in that theater is the microphone system. We recently went to see the book of Mormon and unfortunately, it sounded like the Orchestra was louder than the people singing. A lot of the punch lines didn't hit the way. They usually would because you couldn't hear some of the lead actors actually sing. read more

A great renovated old hotel. We were "upgraded" to a deluxe king but on the backside so we saw the HVAC system out our window. The bed was comfortable. Getting the TV to work well was an issue and we had to use the Google cast from our phone feature. Great place to stay if you booked a show at the playhouse attached; you don't have to go outside! There should not be this many stars as there was no maid service even on the day of the wedding, but with exceptional reception staff like the charming and beautiful Veronica not the mention the very handsome, kind Jack-of-all-trades, Chris they deserve five stars plus. My sister in law got married here on 12/28/24. It is a beautiful place and perfect for a wedding or any kind of celebration. My husband and I loved our room, especially the giant bathroom. Huge shower stall and a nice big tub. The ceremony was decorated beautifully and the reception room was absolutely breathtaking. The food and drinks were delicious. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The hotel was still decorated for Christmas and the decor was beautiful. Everyone loved the tree in the lobby and took advantage of taking lots of pictures in front of it. Everyone had a great weekend! read more

Completely disappointed. At check in I was charged for two rooms-although reservation is/was for one room. it took a few to get it corrected. Two weeks after check out I was charged 250.00 for a smoking fee! Never a smoker! I was also charged for Valet parking which was part of my package. No one at the Hotel DuPont can offer a solution. completely incompetent. I forgot to mention my room was 83* the entire night-no air! took them 9 hours to repair. Notably, the air was fixed 30 minutes prior to check out. read more

This historic hotel has jaw-dropping decor, including gilded ceilings, carved wood-paneled walls, and glittering chandeliers. The rooms are large and have clean, modern furniture. The service is excellent. Since this is an older, historic hotel there are some quirks like small elevators, but none of this should dissuade you from staying at this memorable gem of a hotel. I usually come here for work but it would be a fantastic place to take a date you want to impress. read more

Pure elegance in the setting. Outstanding kitchen in the green room . Burger, Caesar. salad, and French onion soup are best in Delaware. Waitress with jeans was a shocking departure from the Hotel DuPont's past. High end cocktails were good, but bartender was newer younger gentleman . The room is beautiful, our waitress was so sweet , food was very good, breakfast food, burgers, salads , pastries , dessert & drinks were all very good. Some off street parking but valet parking was convenient especially if physically challenged. Prices for this was comparable to High end restaurant not outrageous but really nice to celebrate. I have such mixed feelings about this amazing historic hotel. On the one hand, she's such a classy old lady who has been holding her own for 100 years or so. On the other hand (as with any hotel) there is good staff and not-so-good staff. One front desk person is wearing a suit and tie and has a professional demeanor, the other a track suit, and far less professional demeanor. Evening valet guy was lovely and patient. A.M. valet guy...not so much. Bar staff was awesome and accommodating. It was Valentine's weekend and, unless you had a res, you were SOL, but they were willing to serve you a bev out in the lobby despite being fully booked and clearly running their butts off. When I got to my room after check in, I noticed water damage on the ceiling - and not just a little - then I noticed the full on dripping leak in progress. Called the front desk, and some guy answered with 'Oh, ok, let me see if I can find you another room on the same floor and I'll bring you a key.' [Awesome!] Then 30 minutes went by and when I called back to follow up the same kid answered with a patronizing 'Yeah, look, we're really busy so you're just going to have to wait unless you want to come get the keys.' [Wanker!] So I did exactly that, and was met with the same 'tude. (To be clear, this was *not* the same gentleman who checked me in - looked more like head valet for the evening?) Off-putting, and not what this hotel deserves. She is a grand dame, and deserves better representation, even when they are short staffed and all hands on deck. Find better hands! We were so excited to stay at this beautiful hotel. However, the beauty is all it really has to offer. This rating is based mainly on the LACK of customer service we received as soon as we walked into this hotel. I do want to make this clear. The valet folks were really nice and helpful with our luggage. They were very responsive when we needed our car and always friendly. Same with housekeeping. Kudos to them! Now Back to the review... When we checked in, the front desk clerk asked for my last name, my credit card information and handed me my hotel key cards. Just like that... in that order. Not welcoming at all. As first time guests at this hotel... we knew nothing about it aside from what we read online. I had to ask... which way to the elevators... NO Welcome or any details about the hotel, restaurant, amenities, parking, nearby attractions... NOTHING!!! How rude and unwelcoming!!! It was very off putting and unreal how this same energy was carried out until the end of our stay. I honestly don't get it. For the price of this hotel and parking ($45 per day)... I expected better. Removing this from our list and have no plans to return. I do want to note a couple of things. The hotel rooms are clean and the housekeeping staff was pleasant. The restaurant located inside of the hotel is lovely and the food was amazing. However, that was not enough. read more

We were actually rerouted here by another local hotel due to maintenance issues, so initially the Hotel DuPont was not on my radar for this trip. The size of the room was a pleasant surprise. Upon arriving, the lobby is beautiful with all the details. Abundant, plush seating, a great long table for getting work done and the front desk rep did try to upsell us saying we could get a suite with a city view. We weren't planning on being in the room for long at all due to our itinerary, so the view didn't matter. All that mattered was we had two beds. Upon entering the room, we discovered if we had said yes we would have been upcharged $100 for NOTHING different. That put a slightly bad taste in my mouth about the front desk check-in process. Even when I declined the "upgrade", the front desk guy seemed a little offput, almost in a condescending way. He had no way to know that we usually stay at no less than 4* hotels when we travel and while the original hotel we were staying at was only a 2-3* it was only bc we booked late and had a very specific location we needed to be at. Since my husband and I were traveling with our 17 year-old daughter, we had enough room and privacy, but also plenty of space for three of us to get ready without being all over each other. And since us girls needed some extra time and our daughter needed privacy from her dad as she dressed, it was wonderful to have plenty of options to go within the suite. Multiple mirrors and counters-even a vanity outside of the bathroom. Nice touch. The room had everything we needed, coffee, tea, water, plenty of towels for three, a wonderful soaking tub, premium toiletries and the bathrobes & slippers were perfect since we needed to pack light. One thing we noticed: the rooms and hallways do seem like they are worn. You can tell they need to update the rooms, but other than that, it was a lovely stay sans the attempted upsell at check-in! read more

I am a guest of this hotel monthly. I have never had a bad experience here. The hotel has such rich history carved into its walls it's like staying at a museum. From the minute you arrive you are greeted by every valet, porter and manager within seconds. Doors are held upon entry and you are treated like a VIP. The front desk is phenomenal; I've checked I. Late, early, on-time and my room is always ready, stocked consistently and everything in working order. The rooms are beautiful, but respect the age of the place and don't expect a flesh pounding water pressure of a modern hotel. Expect each room comes with robes, slippers, waters, refillable bottles to keep, and filtered water dispensers on each floor. The gym is fairly large and modern for a historic hotel which was shocking. The crown jewel for me though, is La Cavalier, the restaurant. It's fantastic. I have had all the entrees on the menu and they are impeccable. Read their review separately, the salmon is insane. I honestly feel like the whole experience is so lovely and so Du Pont. They have done well to preserve this hotel, and complements to the staff who keep it in such working order. BTW, they don't know who I am, I keep a low profile so I'm not giving a review from a VIP point of view, I'm on business travel, I'm nobody special, I just love it here. read more

I was so disappointed. The valet staff rushed us coming in. The manager at the check in counter was extremely curt and really a bit rude. I had requestes a room with a handicap accessible shower and he was so rude about saying it had that requested feature. I cannot walk well the room was on the 8th floor and was a distance away from the elevators. The room was okay, the placement of the TV was odd. The bathroom was awful. it smelled like mold. The shower was leaking so there was water on the floo. There was a really strong mold smell when running the water in the sink. The shower was too small for a wheel chair. The handheld shower head was also not powerful enough. The bed was too soft for my liking. I had been so excited to try this hotel and have stayed in way nicer Hiltons and Marriott's than this. When we left the staff at checkout was nice. Just outside the hotel it smelled like a skunk which I was later told by my brother is the sent of marijuana which now has taken over Wilmington. read more

Having our daughters wedding at the Hotel Dupont was the best decision we could have made. The DuPont is old world classic hotel that is not replicated anywhere else in Delaware. The event spaces were iconic. Each of the event venues presented their own personality and charm. We had a welcome party, ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, after party and a brunch utilizing four unique spaces. The staff at the hotel especially Sandra could not have been more accommodating and professional. At every turn the staff was available to help in anyway they could. The food at every event was raved about from all of our guests. Jamie Christinzio, Director of Events, was my "guiding" angel. Jamie led me through every step with such ease, and her suggestions were always spot on. As far as I am concerned if you want a truly magnificent and memorable wedding, there is no other place than the Hotel DuPont. the magnificent floral arrangements were created by Fernandfeme.com, and the fabulous music was performed by The Jack Faulkner orchestra. Absolutely gorgeous hotel, but unfortunately really bad experience here!!! Was reluctant to post because they keep promising a refund for this mess, however have yet to give us one. My boyfriend planned a dinner and a stay at this hotel back in February the weekend after Valentine's Day. Our waiter at the restaurant, Frank, was extremely rude and before even introducing himself to us he complained about another table he was serving. When I went to go order my food, he interrupted me multiple times saying I'm "not ordering right" when it was a three course meal, pretty self explanatory he was just being a jerk. He messed up our drinks and food multiple times. I did not even eat my food because at that point we felt very unwelcome and just wanted to leave. We remained positive and tried to go to the hotel room. My boyfriend had paid for a package to have the room decorated for Valentine's Day. It never got done. We complained to customer service and they were very nice and refunded us for the hotel room, however not for the dinner I didn't even eat. It was not Valentine's Day so it's not like they were very busy. Read the reviews on here and seems like everybody agrees the service there is rude and not great. Would not recommend. read more

Classic hotel with a turn of the century French inspiration. The staff were extremely helpful and professional. The main dinning room is well known through out the area. We had amazing meals enjoying both breakfast and dinner. Our room was a king. It was very spacious, as well as the bathroom. We over looked the roof of the attached convention center so not much of a view. Our room needed some repair, drapes, draw pulls but the room was clean and very comfortable. I enjoy Italian coffee, French coffee is more bitter so I avoided it after my first cup in the room and once in the dinning room. I would return given the opportunity. read more

One of Wilmington's most historic buildings. The hotel is located downtown, walking distance to several good restaurants. Nice bar with a good selection of alcohol and a good menu. They have a beautiful ballroom perfect for weddings and big banquets. They have a ton of meeting space and the Deco Box is attached to the complex. Rooms are spacious. Love the big soaking tub in my room. Rate is not cheap but worth it for the early 20th century luxury. read more

Our room window shades could not be closed. Came down to about 6 inches from bottom of window. Rather than move to another room I requested pillows to place in sill to block light. Housekeeping knocked on door and woke us in spite of privacy notice on door. Public areas have well preserved architectural details. Rooms are dated and could/should be upgraded given price point. From the first phone call to confirm and then upon entering the hotel as well as the entire trip, every day I felt like a VIP. The entire staff made us feel so comfortable, whatever we needed they found a way to accommodate us. We travel by car a few times a year from Florida to New York and back. We enjoyed a beautiful Saturday evening at a wedding reception at this very glamorous and beautiful hotel. Absolutely stunning ! Everything was perfect Sadly, upon the end of the reception the awesomeness ended abruptly! When we had checked in around 3 o'clock the room had felt quite warm so we had adjusted the thermostat to 69°. When we returned to the room at midnight it was still hot. Thus we dropped the thermostat to 64° and tried to sleep. When the room temperature reached 76° we called the desk and they told us all we could do was turn off the air conditioning or switch rooms. It was now just past 1 o'clock in the morning so we suffered through the night. Turns out this is a known problem to them- my husband found reviews going back to early 2021 complaining about this very issue!! This is why I am so angry, it wasn't a fluke. They know this happens. Additionally, FYI there is no coffee. There is an espresso maker in the room, but no coffee readily available even down in the lobby. Confusing to write this review because it was such a fabulous wedding, but trying to get sleep afterwards was near impossible. read more

It is too bad I have to give only two stars to this beautiful historic hotel I stayed last night. There were just too many mistakes at this hotel. 1. The lady who checked me in at around 6:20pm told me it was Happy Hour in the lobby with complimentary wine and appetizers. But I found out from the bar attendant that the Happy Hour had ended at 6pm and what was going on then was a private party. If I didn't ask the bar attendant what time the Happy Hour was until, I ended up being a party crasher. A close call. No wonder every guest had a name badge on. 2. The exhaust vent on the ceiling in my room bathroom was full of dust, making noise and could not be turned off. 3. The bathtub had bad water drainage. The water was up to my ankle when I was taking a shower. 4. A part was missing in one of two ceiling lights in the bathroom. 5. Although I paid with my CC for breakfast at the hotel restaurant Green Room, when I checked out an hour later, I found $17 for breakfast added to my hotel room charge bill. 6. I showed my breakfast receipt to the front desk guy, and he took off the $17, but forgot to return the breakfast receipt to me. I forgot to get it back from him too but he should have given it back to me. It is my copy of the receipt. The lobby is beautiful and the dining room Green Room is so gorgeous with those 24K gold chandeliers, but the management staff really need to get the act together here to improve the service level and the room quality. I would not recommend this hotel for staying. It is really a shame. It is such a beautiful property. read more

Hotel itself is honestly beautiful. But for a 5-star hotel, I expect much better service. With the exception of Frank at Le Cavalier, the stay was all around one of the worst customer service experiences I've had. It's mind-blowing how awful they are. It's as if they're trained to be as unaccommodating and unwelcoming as possible. Literally every request was denied. And they also don't hide their disdain for black customers. Came for dinner the night before check in (met up with a friend who was staying at the hotel), asked the front desk for directions to the bathroom. Was told I couldn't get directions unless he saw a room key. Really? For directions?? To a lobby bathroom?? Checked in the next afternoon. Was told my room was on the 5th floor. I asked if that was the highest floor available. Without even checking she tells me "unfortunately we're all booked so there's nothing else". I just so happened to have checked that hour (was going to book a second room for a friend) so I know for a fact there was availability. I let her know this. Then she checks the system and tells me "okay, I guess we can do the 8th floor for you". Just wow I had booked a luxury king, got to the room. No robes, no tissue. Called down ~1:30pm to request the items get delivered. Was told it would be right up. Came back to my room at ~6. Items still weren't there. Called again from a friend's room to request the items. Housekeeping wanted to know why I was calling from a different room. What difference does it make??? Got back to my room ~8:30. Still no items. Called a third time and finallyyyy, after just 7.5 short hours , I got tissue at 9pm. Had reservations for brunch at the hotel restaurant at 11:30 so asked if it was ok to check out ~30 minutes past the 12pm check out time. Without even checking the system... "No unfortunately we can't accommodate that" Service at the restaurant wasn't much better. Our waiter never checked on us to see how everything was, multiple times we had to find a different server to request items. One of the people I was dining with asked for avocado- was told no. We found another server who brought it out. Another person requested a baguette instead of toast. Same "no" response. Prices are in line with the Four Seasons- which I stay at often. But somehow they think it's ok to treat you as if you're at a budget hotel. For that price, I expect better treatment. Again, it's a lovely historic hotel. But between the poor service, and open, blatant stares- I highly doubt I'll return. read more

We had my parents' 50th wedding anniversary here - a small soirée with family in a private dining room. The service was superlative - the maître'd and waitress didn't merely respond to requests but anticipated them. The comestibles were of excellent quality - particularly the cake and the macaroons for dessert...although I was equally impressed by the main course. It was a perfect evening - I highly doubt that any other place in Delaware could have come close. The Hotel duPont is clearly the best that the state has to offer. read more

I love this hotel, but the new woman at the valet station doesn't understand the purpose of valet. I paid for valet, and when it was time to pick up my car, she gave me my key and said it was parked at the end of the block. That is not valet. I could have parked on the street for free. I was stunned because I have parked here before and never had that issue. If I see her at the valet, I will find somewhere else to park. read more

My husband's cousin got married this past weekend at Hotel DuPont - since it was a Sunday evening wedding, we decided to drive over from Philadelphia to Delaware on Saturday to spend the night there and be able to sleep in a little bit before having a busy day with wedding preps. We ended up having a very late arrival, and in the past, I've had hotels drop our reservation even if I've let them know on the same day that we'll be arriving late. I called the front desk on Saturday morning and the person I spoke to at the front desk was very nice and assured me that no matter how late we arrived, our room would still be there. We ended up arriving at around 1:30am on Sunday morning, but the staff working at valet and the front desk were so friendly and helpful. Mike was working the valet, and told us that there were no carts available at the front desk so he literally went to every single floor to find one for us very quickly so we could unload our luggage and get checked in. Stephanie was so helpful at the front desk, not only when we checked in, but also when we checked out and throughout our stay. We had a king size bedroom and the room was incredible - a little older, but so spacious, with a Lavazza coffee maker and a large TV in addition to the sofa/desk area. The bathroom had a huge tub as well as a standing shower. If only we had stayed a bit longer so I could've used the tub! I'll have to come back again :-) I can't comment on the maid service since we didn't stay more than one night. The wedding party had two suites on the second floor for getting ready with coffee, which were spacious and very comfortable for us to be getting ready, including hair, makeup, steaming clothes, storing luggage, etc. For some reason, they wouldn't give us the key for the suites when we wanted to go down to the wedding hall - but they did lock the doors for us after the wedding coordinator went to talk to them a few times, while stating that they weren't responsible for anything that might be lost. The wedding venue itself was incredible - the staircase into the rooms where the wedding was held was so beautiful, as was the "smoking/cigar" room where we took some pre-wedding photos and the groom's family waited before their entrance into the wedding hall. We left late that night (technically Monday morning at that point) and many of the family were sitting in the lobby, and the hotel front door staff were so helpful again. Mike brought our car up within 5-10 minutes of requesting it from the valet, and even though they were out of water bottles, Stephanie was able to provide us with some Perrier bottles before we left for our drive back to Baltimore. The only thing that I was a bit disappointed about were that we weren't able to check-out later than 12:30pm that day (only 30 minutes in addition to the original time), but I understand the hotel was fully booked, so it might be hard when new guests are checking in. Overall, we really enjoyed both our stay and the wedding at Hotel DuPont and hope that we can make another visit for a staycation at some point in the future! read more

My friends planned their dream wedding here for last weekend, but the evil Jonas Blizzard (not to be confused with the Brothers, who I hear are lovely) had something else in mind...While vendor after vendor and guest after guest cancelled on my friends, the Hotel Dupont stepped up, accomodated all the guests who came in early on Friday and wanted early checkin Saturday, and put up 50 of its employees in (gorgeous) rooms, to make sure my friends' special day was as perfect as it could be under the circumstances. The ceremony was intimate and classy upstairs, then it was down the stairs to the cocktail hour area, with an impressive spread of cheeses, slider station, veggies, and passed hors d'oevres. The ballroom was one of the most incredible wedding venues I've ever seen, and the food was delicious (chicken or salmon). The signature almond cookies were the perfect way to end the meal. We ate so much we had to dance it off, and that we did, until it was time to retire to...the after party (side room with lots of space and a bar), and then the after after party (no noise/hotel complaints!). The room rates for the wedding ($159), were totally reasonable for the beautiful suite-style rooms, complete with boudoir and fancy mirror that magnifies all imperfections, big tub, shower, couch, desk, TV, robe, slippers, and mini bar fridge (call to get a non-mini bar fridge to stow food). The brunch buffet is a pretty high price point ($38) but the spread is incredible. The bar menu /room service is your typical $15 sandwiches. I can think of worse places to be snowed in. read more

What a grand stay in an historic hotel. The hotel has been maintained over the years and is in fantastic condition. All the 1913 original feel with modern updates. A meal in the Green Room is a must. Throw back to pre prohibition times. Ornate woodwork all around. I had to have a Manhattan! First of all it took around 30 minutes to receive our coffee after ordering and they did not provide cream or sugar until we asked. It then took even longer to get our orders taken. Once receiving our food three people in our party got tartines and the toast was black on the bottom. It was clear they were short staffed considering the lack of customers and long wait times. I am so disappointed in the Hotel Du Pont. Paid for a suite in the hotel for our daughter and her friends to get ready for a homecoming dance and to meet their dates for pictures. It was clear when the reservation was made that pictures would be taken. When the girls' dates arrived and everyone was getting ready for pictures in the lobby, we were treated as if we had walked in off the street instead of just paying an astronomical amount for a room for 5 hours.
