Just reviewing the restaurant experience, though I hope to come back and stay at the Inn. The sockeye salmon was absolutely delicious. Fresh salmon prepared and seasoned right is wonderful. Mine was garnished, seasoned and finished perfectly but my colleagues were obviously less finished with herbs. Mine was great, but I could see consistency issues. Service was friendly and attentive. They were 25%+ tip territory. Excellent service. I didn't love the interior atmosphere of the dining area, but balance that with a million dollar view of the stunningly beautiful harbor. I would eat here again and hope to. Will update if I do come back to dine and stay. read more

The only reason I am grading 4 out of 5 is because the prices are very high, the flounder was very overcooked and the fried fish very greasy. (Note: this review is for the restaurant) Like many in smaller Alaska towns, the labor shortage is hitting this business in Whittier hard. There was one server working, she looked overwhelmed, and it may as well have been her first day. But she was trying her best. She just needed better training. The sign out front says "Whittier Brewing". As far as I know there's not a brewery in Whittier. There were no "Whittier Brewing" beers on tap either. I can't find any mention of this on their official website either. Googling "Whittier Brewing" only seems to get me a brewery in California. Seems deceptive? The food is good for what it is: fried fish, fried shrimp, burgers. The views are incredible! However, they are obstructed every few minutes by tourists doing selfies. read more

Restaurant: Halibut fish and chips was possibly the best I've had. Window seat views of mountains are incredible. Ate on a Monday, so not very busy and service was prompt. Hotel: The suite is well worth the upgrade. Two levels, both with incredible bay and mountain views. Jacuzzi tub upstairs with 2 gas fireplaces. Highly recommend. read more

Stopped in even though Yelp didn't have this come up when searching for restaurants in Whittier. The Inn itself is charming inside. The food service was okay, not as prompt as you'd hope for an expensive lunch. We had the spinach salmon dip appetizer. Small amount of small bits of salmon in a fairly small container of dip, especially for the amount of chips accompanying said dip. I ordered the halibut fish and chips which I believe was $30 for the plate with 3 pieces. It was decent tasting. The breading on the fish needed some seasoning. Fish was good quality. My husband and I were looking for a light meal and both opted for large Chicken Caesar Salads. The chicken was perfectly cooked and had good flavor while remaining moist. Additionally I found the salad to have just the right amount of dressing without being overpowering. One noticeable item that would have made it better is fresh parmesan cheese. Prepackaged parmesan has a distinct texture/cut and I couldn't help but notice it. We split an Apple Pie with a scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream and it was a nice sweet treat. I think the slice was a lot bigger than either of us expected. All-in-all for not being our first choice of dining options it was tasty and I'd consider revisiting for a more substantial meal in the future. read more

Cute little inn. Whittier is a really tiny place so not a lot to do here (especially in shoulder season). They have a decent restaurant (again nothing special but better than expected) and a fun bar with live music. The bar/ tavern is probably the only place open late (in late season) so by the end of the night, i was drinking with transient workers, fishermen and boat captains. And live music. I wish there is a four point five option. Hotel: Five stars. Smooth quick check-in. The room and amenities are dated but everything is clean including the windowsill which I didn't expect for an inn in a remote town. Staff are friendly. Restaurant: Five star services, five star views, four stars for the food. We had dinners here two nights, partially due to the lack of options during the semi-pre-tourist season, and partially cuz we really liked our food the first night. The first night the place was packed and second night was empty. But we were greeted and seated very promptly both nights. And regular check-in and refills of water (no "I am too busy to fill your water" or "I am too chilled to fill water" kinda bs). Of course the food came out much slower in the first night. If the owner see this, you should be very proud of your staff Michael and Julie (or Julia?). We had seafood pasta and shrimp pasta the first night. The fish was a bit dry but shrimps were great. And pasta were well cooked with fresh vegs. With the second night's experience, I won't order the shrimp and fries again as they are too greasy and salty for me (much better in the shrimp pasta version), but will gladly have the cheese burger or chowder any time. we were so excited to head to Alaska....we booked our stay at the Inn at Whittier some time in February, 1st reservation for September 15; we then booked another night, September 16 about a week later which both were confirmed and paid for..sometime in July the Inn TEXTED me to say they had to cancel our reservations due to pipe leak. Since we have no cell service where we live in VT, I saw the text 2 days after it came in, NO email, just a TEXT. The text read that if we booked via. 3rd party, we had to cancel it there before we could get our refund. OK, no problem, found another place to stay and then cancelled via Hotels.com. We only received ONE refund not Two. For 3 months I kept checking my CC statements for that refund, it never came. I continued to call them about 4 times, no answer and NO RETURN call. We figured once we got to Whittier, we would go to the Inn....it was closed and boarded up. Reached out to Hotels.com and provided what had happened, copies of CC statements, etc.. They contacted the Inn and were told that they were not going to refund the 2nd reservation, so HOTELS.COM DID!!! This Inn should be ashamed and embarrassed by their response and business practices...I have reviewed them several times in different review groups. We do hope that no one else went through this.. BAD FORM!!! read more

Our family (4) ordered a Surf & Turf with Ribeye, Surf & Turf with filet mignon, and Filet mignon only and cheese burger. Pro: view of the sea and the burger (can't really go wrong with burger). Cons: 1 We ordered the ribeye rare, but it was medium rare, and no flavor! 2. The filet mignon was dry, tough, and no flavor! We had to ask for A-1 sauce for all our stakes. 3. The server for 2 off our orders wrong and the service was horrible! The price we paid for the meals, I was extremely disappointed and I will never go back there again! Save your money! read more

This is a review of the Restaurant. We walked into the restaurant and as others have been were greeted rather rudely with a "We are full" greeting even though we could see that less than half the tables were occupied. We took it upon ourselves to try the bar off to the side where we were able to get a table. Anthony did a great job on service. The food such as the Jumbo Shrimp and Chicken Burger were ok but not great. The prices were very reasonable such as $6 for a Cadillac Margarita. The view from the bar is great. read more

This is for the restaurant. We are one of our most delicious meals at the restaurant here. To start, the view of the harbor is beautiful. We straight from our cruise and happened inside because it was close by..so glad we did. We picked a table just by a window for the beautiful view. We had calamari, Alaska king crab, halbut fish and chips, chowder, and the pasta with shrimp and reindeer sausage. Everything was absolutely delicious. The highlight was the amazing 1 lb crab leg my kids are still talking about! We encountered very kind service. Our server quickly checked us out when we let her know that we needed to catch the tunnel opening. I wish we had time to really enjoy our time, but that was no fault of theirs. We understand that this hotel has had a few owners since it was built at great expense a few years ago. Todd the current owner certainly knows how to look after clients, keep and reward good staff and has the whole operation turning over nicely. The place is a little shabby around the edges, but it was quiet, the food hot and tasty and the staff really friendly. The bar staff in particular were happy to chat about life locally. Our room had a massive bath which we loved. There is not much choice in Whittier and we were impressed. If the website is not yet working properly (it wasn't for us and there have been issues...) give them a call which worked really well. read more

Drove down from anchorage to explore and was impressed with the lunch service and food offered. The view is spectacular of the Bay and the waitress was friendly and advised us on where to explore. The wait wasn't bad even though there was a cruise ship that was docked, but that meant the WiFi was down. We booked this hotel 6 months in advance to stay one night before our cruise departure in June of 2023. They texTed me just a few days before our reservation was to begin to cancel due to water damage in the hotel. I understand things happen, but we had a townhouse style room booked with two bathrooms. They were unwilling to book us w similar accommodations and we had to find something on our own that would sleep our party at the last minute and pay double of course. We had a travel insurance policy which helps cover things like this. I have reached out to the hotel multiple times in email, text, and phone messages. No one will get back to me and so I have been unable to make a claim and recoup my money from our insurance company. I just needed some kind of statement proving they were the ones that canceled and not us. very poor customer service here. STAY AWAY! read more

Stayed here over the past weekend. Hotel itself was nice and clean. The restaurant however was a kick in the balls. Totally feel like we were ripped off with food quality. My wife ordered Surf and Turf. Her steak was undercooked and not seasoned. The vegetable melody was mushy and the crab tasted old as hell. Not to mention we ordered calamari as an appetizer. Another couple came in half an hour after us and got their calamari appetizer before us. We watched ours die in the window for 5-10 minutes before she brought it over. If this meal was $15 vs $103 I would not have been as upset. But it sucked. Will not recommend eating here to anyone. Wish the owner cared but everyone says he is an asshole, and my concerns would fall on deaf ears. Guess it's just part of living here in Alaska with little choices. Next time I will just pack a pb&j, it would not be as disappointing. They get 2 stars because the front desk girl was nice and helpful. I love the Inn! The view is great and we enjoy sitting in the bar area after hiking or a long day. The staff are always very kind even when it's busy, and the food is good. The crab burger is hard to beat, and our friends that visit love the novelty of the "Tunnel Misser" drink. The small back deck is a great spot to have a drink while waiting for our food to come out, and this place is a nice addition to our small town! read more

Review is for the restaurant! My husband and I were excited to eat dinner in town after our Glacier Cruise and support some local businesses. We walked into The Inn's empty dining room where there was a sign that said for us to seat ourselves. We saw the table that looked best for us, and there were two staff members standing nearby talking. When we tried to move closer to the table to sit down, the female server turned to me very aggressively and told us the table was dirty and we needed to move away from it so they could clean it. This pretty standard piece of information was given to us in the most condescending, rude, unpleasant way I could imagine. I wish I could describe it more, but just imagine being spoken to like you're a 5 year old trying to steal a cookie. Usually I'm more sensitive to these kinds of exchanges than my husband so I looked at him and he said, "Oh absolutely not, we're leaving." We didn't take the time to engage with this woman or wait for a table after this. Our trip was in late June and we still often refer to the rude, rude waitress at The Inn At Whittier when reminiscing about our trip. I hope her day got better after she let out some aggression on us, because she didn't seem to be having a good one. read more

Whittier is a tiny town of a few hundred, mostly serving the port. We were here for a glacier cruise, as were 99% of the visitors that came into town. It was rainy and cold even on a summer day, but I've been told the rainy part is pretty usual for this town. After the cruise, we were cold and hungry, and decided to go for a little something before taking the train back into Anchorage. There's barely anything here, but the local hotel has a nice restaurant and bar attached to it. I got a spiked hot cider, and shared some jalapeño pops with the mister. The hot cider was decent -- but you can hardly mess up spiked hot drinks. The jalapeño pops were a lot fancier than I thought they would be -- they were stuffed and fried whole, and you get 3 of them on a plate, a bit fewer than I was hoping for, but they were good. Being one of the very few places in town, you can expect prices to be a bit steep. It isn't exactly easy to get anything here either, with the timed tunnel, the weather and what not. However, the food and the drinks didn't disappoint, and I wouldn't mind coming here should I find myself in Whittier again. read more

This is a lovely spot in the small town of Whittier. A hidden gem that is right off the harbor. It's got great views and food. The wait staff was all great. Anthony at the bar made great drinks and conversation but the star of the show is Kat. She was very helpful and so nice. Helped with our reservation and was just so nice and attentive the entire time. We were unsure of our reservation and she helped make sure we had everything right a lot of attention to detail and let us eat while things were figured out.
