WHERE DOES HE GET THOSE WONDERFUL TOYS!!?? (Insert back story) I walked into the original shop when it first opened and, to be honest, I was a bit intimidated. Even with being a previous CrossFit gym person, I felt intimidated with going into this place. The only reason I didn't join back then is because they didn't have a climbing rope. I see now that they do have one so that's a bonus for me right off the bat! It takes alot to sell me on a gym. The fact I'm a massive sweater (the wet kind), makes me worry about drenching the place. But even though they don't have towels, they have microfiber clothes and spray. Oohhhhh that clean feeling! I may make it rain but at least I can clean up my mess. The fact there are showers are nice but the fact there are only two just means people have to scrub and rinse faster. I enjoy the fact there are events they do as teams. The swag is cool and I see this place plastered all over the place out in town. The price is right for the monthly membership plus you can help a friend out with a free month if they refer you. Then make someone else hand the favor over to ya!

My trainer works out of this gym. The owners are friendly and it's a great atmosphere. There's no flexing of egos and if there is it's in a friendly, healthy competitive way. You will see a lot Of hard bodies in there, but don't fret you won't receive harsh glances or be scoffed at if you have a soft body like mine. It's a really friendly environment to work out, but for the most part you can tell the individuals that work out here on their own or with a trainer are serious about it. It truly is a diverse gym with a positive vibe- clientele range from all types of body shapes, body builders, cross fitters, athletes to those who are just trying to stay active, get active , get fit, lose weight and be healthy. I personally fall into the latter category and I feel comfortable working amongst the Hercules both male and female. You won't be judged, at least not in front of your face or in the presence of the gym :-) They just recently relocated laterally in a brand new spanking building built from the ground up, which is three times maybe four times as large with AC with loads of more new equipment! You'll find plenty of medicine balls to do wall balls, or ab work outs or just plain strengthening. There are now a bountiful of circuit weights and free weights and now three cages /power racks which allow a total of 6 people to do squats and push presses, in addition to pull up bars spaced enough so that another guy was able to do kipping pull ups while four of us were doing squats (3 people on each side). The only thing is you might have someone on the opposite side of you doing squats and so you're facing each other. The guy on the opposite side facing me, he and I just ended up alternating after each of our sets so it wasn't creepy or distracting. Haha. There were actually two guys that ended up doing kipping pull ups, but it can be a bit distracting. But what is nice about this set up is more people can do their squats instead of having to wait and trainers don't have to keep adjusting the racks if they are doing couples' training like my husband and I do since I'm soo short and he's not. They have a separate cardio area partitioned in the back area with treadmills, a recumbent bike, stationary bikes, stair steppers and elliptical machines. The row machines are to the far right out on the floor. There's an abundance of chalk bowls, a set of exercise rings , kettle bells and they have foam rollers to help you stretch out or get some deep pressure to work out the kinks or knots. On both opposite ends of the gym you will find two sets of stairs which provide space to do sit ups, push ups and any other calisthenics. An added feature which I enjoy immensely are the windows and garage style doors which allow a lot of natural light in as well as allows you the opportunity to enjoy the fresh air and get a cross breeze and just get a view of the outdoors! The gym is open 24-7 for members. Parking is the only issue, it's a small parking lot shared with other industrial businesses, so you might want to plan accordingly. So go ahead and box jump, lunge or run your way into the Iron Asylum and put the "fit" in fitness.

I live in Philadelphia but my family lives in Virginia Beach, so I came in over the weekend on a $15 day pass.

Great neighborhood gym. Lots of space to personalize your workout. A ton of quality equipment…read more Always clean. The staff is friendly. The price is very competitive.

I love the gym but the pool needs a better system…read more I've been increasingly frustrated with the pool experience at OneLife Fitness. This is the second time this week I've gone specifically to lap swim and found a children's private swim lesson being taught at an extremely loud volume right alongside the lap swimmers. Earlier this week, the instructor was so loud that several of us actually stopped swimming and were standing in the pool waiting for the lesson to end. I've swum during British Swim School classes with groups of toddlers and they were considerably less disruptive. Today was worse. I got into the one remaining open lap lane, only to have the same instructor tell me he was teaching a lesson in that lane. At that point I left the pool entirely. Even if I waited for another lane to open, the noise level made lap swimming anything but relaxing or enjoyable. When I spoke to the front desk, I was told there really wasn't anything they could do other than ask the instructor to be quieter. I suggested that, at a minimum, these private lessons should be clearly listed on the pool schedule so members know in advance when part of the lap pool will be occupied and can plan accordingly. I understand that swim lessons are part of a shared pool environment. The issue isn't that children are being taught--it's that paying members trying to use the pool for lap swimming have no warning that lanes may be unavailable, combined with a level of noise that disrupts the entire pool. OneLife needs a better system for scheduling and communicating private swim lessons so lap swimmers can actually use the facility they're paying for.
