I stopped here as part of the Indie Bookstore Passport tour, and was struck by what a great…read morebookstore and gift shop this was. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and asked about what bookstores I've traveled to so far. The store is very close the Bde Maka Ska lake, and would make a great stop if on a bike ride around the Minneapolis lakes. Today, I drove and didn't have a problem finding parking on the street. The bookstore specializes in Native American voices and handmade arts. The interior of the store is really interesting to look at; there's a handmade canoe hanging from the ceiling and lots of handmade crafts throughout the store. I think Louise Erdrich, who is an author I enjoy, owns the store.

It was so nice seeing a different kind of bookstore open up and I love the variety of items they have. The location works well for everything they have available. They display the items well in the space and offer books, reading accessories, related merch, page overlays, a large children's section with plenty of stuffed animals, Lego sets, and much much more. They even have a clearance section! All the employees I came across were super helpful and friendly too; great vibe. The only thing I was disappointed by was that they didn't have a free membership option. But it sounds like the price for signing up for the membership initially for the first year can change depending on your purchase total. I'm not sure if that's true or how it's calculated, but if you plan to visit a lot it may be something worthwhile for you to look into. Great variety with a clearance section? I will definitely visit again!

It would be cool if they had a space to hang out and read or for books clubs etc. I'd love to see that addition - not the space since I don't know how that would be possible, but a book club. A friendly grey tabby (Simon) welcomed us at the door, followed shortly by the shop's owner. I love little shops like this where you have to dig a little to find treasures -- but I walked out with four books for $12, which was very reasonable. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, and I will definitely stop there again when I'm in Hastings.
