Cool place to take in the shore scenery or trying your luck at catching a big fish. $ 2 entry fee to walk, $8 if fishing. Bring your own gear or rent there's. I fished, hubby did not and the price was so much more than the pole rental and entry. Bait was pricey, told I had to buy these pink squares to keep the bait on, charged for scissors and a towel. Fished for two hours and caught nothing. Still had fun though, soaking in the sea filled air and people watching. If I had to do it again, I'd buy bait at Publix, had exact same thing for a quarter the cost. Bring own towel and scissors. Take a char, benches were few and far between. There is a bathroom, nasty but it's there by the rental shed. Also have no idea if where we parked was OK, ( in the adjacent restaurant lot) but didn't get towed or questioned. Beach access is right there and not crowded at all. Would do again. read more

I enjoy visiting this pier. If ur planning to visit in March. Expect high winds, and cold temps so be prepared, bundle up. People were catching lots of cat fish. It isn't as packed as it is in the summer. There is a $2.00 fee you have to pay if ur planning on walking the pier and $8 if you plan on fishing. Nice fun family sight seeing pier. read more

This was a really nice pier in a great location. We spent quite a while on the pier during the day and ended up coming back again that night for the fireworks. We got to see sharks, sea turtles and all kinds of cool things I haven't seen up close before. We weren't doing any fishing at the time but plenty of people were, and they seemed to be catching all sorts of things. There was a little shop at the pier entrance where you could buy bait and even rent a fishing pole. read more

The Pier is a wonderful place to see marine wildlife in action. It's great to bring your family to see the fishermen in action and to get close to the wildlife. The dolphins, sharks, remoras, and schools of thousands of fish swimming around make for a great time. It's 2 dollars for an all day walking pass and more for fisherman. read more

My father also almost got attacked by a bird which automatically makes this pier better. A charming 11 year old also went up and talked to my twin and I and told us we aren't twins. Good pier. I travel all over the country but not normally with my kids. Thought they would think it's neat to walk out on the pier, but when we got there they charge for each person to go out on it!!! Only $2 each but I've been on dozens of piers and never once paid to go out in one!!!! We didn't more out of principal and it's not a neat pier like Santa Monica or anything to be worth it. Unless you want to go there to fish, which also isn't free, don't bother. read more

This has been a highlight of our trip so far! Fairly priced, and your stamp/wristband lets you leave and come back throughout the day without paying another entry fee. We saw tons of dolphins and people catching sharks! Lots of people catching Spanish mackerel and saw one pompano. There is also beach access and a little bar and grill at the entrance. Great pier. Wide, safe for kiddos, and you can see all kinds of fish. We saw giant sea turtles, lots of sharks, lots of dolphins, rays, remoras, and tarpon. We fished here our entire stay and the staff is great with recommendations and so kind. Our kids felt really comfortable here. There is a bathroom on the pier and it is gross but I wouldn't expect anything else with the hundreds of people that use it all day and expecially fisherman. It happens. So thankful there is a bathroom right there. I got really sunburnt and ended up buying a shirt and hat from the pier and they are really good quality. Probably favorite pier we have fished in Florida. read more

We were vacationing at Ft Walton Beach, and my boyfriend and I love to see dolphins and such. One of the families we met on the beach told us to go to the pier, especially around dusk, and said we would see lots of sea life. So that night we went after dinner. We missed the sunset, but the pier was still busy. It is quite long, with lots of various fishermen along the edges. Some are there just for fun, for something to do, others are there to seriously catch food for the family. In many of those cases, the spouse and kids were there too - they'd pull in a line with three fish on it and the kids would run up and grab the fish off the line - it was amazing to watch! If you go all the way to the end, the floor at the end of the pier is more grates than cement, so you can see through them (which, as someone who doesn't like heights, kind of freaked me out some!) We had such a good time, that a couple of nights later we made sure to go earlier, before dinner. We had a great time talking to the fishermen, and we got to see lots of sea life! There were 3-4 dolphins swimming all around the pier, and then 3 loggerhead sea turtles came through which was so awesome! The water here is pretty clear, so it's easier to spot them while they are underwater so you know when and where they are coming up for air so you can have your camera ready! They like to swim under the pier, so everyone would be hanging off one side trying to see them, then they'd swim under the pier so we'd all run to the other side to watch, and back again. We certainly clocked a lot of steps that night, in addition to catching an amazing sunset!! Totally worth the $2 per person, and I would absolutely do it again and again. Definitely a huge highlight of our trip. Park in the Gulfarium parking lot - it's free, and puts you right at the entrance to the pier boardwalk. Don't miss this stop! read more

The Okaloosa Island Pier is a very cool place to do a little pier fishing or to look out on the ocean and beach. For $7.50 one can fish off the pier (no fishing license needed) and $2.00 will allow you to walk out on the pier; both prices give you a full day's access that allows you to come and go as you like during the day. While we were there we fished all day with no luck, but we came close to catching a crab and even a jellyfish. Some of the sea creatures we saw included the crabs and jellyfish above, but also saw a sea turtle, a couple of sharks, and a school of dolphins. read more

Other than walking the beach for free, the two dollar admission fee for this attraction is the best bargain around. The entrance is slightly confusing because it's not clearly marked. You don't know whether you were walking into Anglers Restaurant or .... ? The ramp to access the pier is just to the left of the entrance to Anglers. Simply walk up the ramp turn right be in (again towards the restaurant), walk a few paces past the tables turn left again and you were ready to start out towards the pier. There's a small information booth (sometimes with attendant) at the very start of the ramp/pier. Keep walking past the tattoos and other temporary vendors --towards the Gulf -- and you will come to a building straddling the pier; walk through and pay your admission inside. Two dollars to walk on the pier, 8 dollars to actually fish from the pier. You can bring your own gear or rent fishing tackle right inside. After you're getting your hand stamped you're free to roam the pier for as long as you like. Guaranteed---you will see birds: Gulls, Terns, & Great Blue Herons who are not shy and also like to sit on the light poles. They hang out there waiting for one of the fisherman to throw them some of the little catch is they make. You will undoubtedly get to see people pulling up any number of different kinds of fish from Pinfish and Yellowtail, to Mackerel, Cobia... You name it. Dolphins are an every day visitor to the pier. Just keep your eyes on the water-both sides and you certainly should see them gliding and breaching the surface. CAUTION: be mindful of fishers & fishing gear and, especially at the end of the pier, people will be casting overhead so don't get too close or you might get hooked. Wednesday nights during the summer (May to September) there is a free fireworks show set off from the end of the pier. Best viewing places are anywhere along the beach or even sitting/standing in the water and watching the beautiful reflections as the fireworks explode overhead. read more

The pier serves as the summer fireworks launching site every Wednesday at 9pm. It's a free show for everyone! As I walked the pier I saw a wide array of marine life including many species of birds. A porpoise and large sea turtle were the guest stars of the evening as they gracefully swam around the many fishing lines and barnacle crusted pier pilings. The view of Okaloosa Island from the pier is breathtaking. Talking to the many anglers was fun too. The pier is excellent for a romantic walk or a stroll with the entire family. read more

One of the cleanest fishing piers I have seen in years. This is a very good place to catch a meal if you cannot hit a boat. I have gotten many good eating fish from pier and sometimes share the wealth too. I do most of my fishing from Destin on board the American Spirit Boat near AJ's. Sometimes I walk from the far end to the pier and back you will meet many people along the way, some very cool and some Not. read more

This place is so AWESOME because: 1) Open 24/7 from May-Nov. After 9PM, it counts as the next day so you can fish until the following day at midnight. 2) $7.50/person for 24hrs of fishing. $2/person if you're not fishing. You can access anytime and multiple times within that time frame. 3) Floyd's restaurant/bar/club is next door, so free music to entertain us at night. 4) Cheap and affordable prices on pretty much everything, for ex. $2 baits. 5) Super friendly staff. Since we were a bunch of fishing noobs, they were very helpful. 6) The pier stretches over 1200 ft. 7) Beautiful view. We saw dolphins and jellyfishes. 8) A lot of varieties. One guy almost caught a white shark that was 9ft long. Another guy caught a stingray. We caught a some catfish and nothing else, cux we suck at fishing. There were also blue crabs here, but we were not successful at catching any of them =(. 9) You can swim on both sides of the pier. 10) A lot of restaurants (mainly seafood, duh!!) around for your hungry tummy. So glad we found this place. It made our Destin trip way more fun. read more

Such a great time! Walkers are $2. We saw so many dolphins and sharks, a spotted eagle ray, and a huge sea turtle. My kids LOVED it.

I would love to come back to Destin when I have a FAMILY. I went to Okaloosa with my girls and we all did not really enjoy this beach because it is very family oriented. I can't give this place 5/5 or 4/5 stars because like I said I honestly I didn't enjoy it. I was trying to have fun and I felt like this beach is very quiet and kid friendly. I was with my girls and we were trying to drink and have a good time!! I did not see anyone with a beer on the beach. I felt as if everyone was staring at me and my friends because we were literally the only group of girls on the beach. My suggestion is that if you have a family come to this beach! It is gorgeous. The sand is white and beautiful. The water is amazing! read more

My family loves fishing and comes here every trip. You can fish here without a license as it is included in the entrance fee. Always a great time here! Friendly staff and lots of awesome fish! I don't see how anyone could give this place anything less than five stars. As far as fishing piers go - this is about as good as it gets. It is very clean and wide enough to accommodate both walkers and people fishing at the same time. The water is so clear that you can see fish below the surface. The place has rod rentals and plenty of bait to choose from. The restrooms were clean. It's a little hidden. It is easier looking for the Angler Restaurant and entering just left of the building. We fished for a few hours and only caught small fish but a fellow fisherman said he had a good night fishing the night before. The surrounding beach is beautiful as well. I enjoyed my visit and it totally exceeded my expectations for a fishing pier. read more

I walked in and (mark) was being very rude to the other workers and cussing and playing loud music. It made me and my family not want to come to this peir any more. It took him about 5 mins to see I was waiting and when I left to get something he sayed get a stamp. I tried to ask where they where and he ignored me for a long time. read more

While in Fort Walton you HAVE to hit the pier up. For $2 you can walk it and watch the locals fish or for around $15 you can rent a pole, buy a pound of shrimp or squid and try your luck at fishing. We struck out today but had a couple bites on sheepshead. Saw plenty of ray sharks swim by and a few sea turtles. The local next to us caught a couple. Go to fish or just to take in the beautiful view. You won't be disappointed. read more
