Dow Elementary School building, built in 1912. Despite the improvement they have done but it is still not as handicap friendly To enter the building there is a flight of stairs and they did build a ramp from an side entrance. But the ramp to go up inside the building is very steep, if you are in a wheelchair by yourself, it is very difficult to go up or go down without flying down. There are no ramps to go up to the second floor. The restroom on the first floor is not handicap friendly either as there is a step you have to get up to use the restroom and there is no grab bars and the sink and the toilet is so close, it is very tight inside. I love they have convert the classroom to different studio where you can take different class these offer here. I love the events they have here and the class but I wish they will improve on the accessibility for this place.

I came by during Christmas time to meet with Pancho Clause. Him and his helpers used Meca as a place to sort and distribute gifts for the local kids. They also have a huge festival where Pancho Clause sings and dances, and hands out more gifts. It was a fun filled day, and you could see the joy on the faces of the little children.

Pricing for the museum is $24. There are several garages in the area to park at and parking is charged a hourly rate. Unfortunately I was short on time but was able to visit the Frida collection, Aztec civilization, and Islamic Art collections. All of the art work was unique. The Frida collection was extremely popular and that's where most of the museums visitors spent their time. Overall I really enjoyed my experience here and wish I had more time to explore. They do have several dining options at the museum including a Michelin star French restaurant, Le Jardinier. The menu looks great and looks like they had a lunch 2 course option there for $45.

There were plenty of amazing exhibits to see in the free galleries, and parking was only $10. I decided to upgrade my ticket for an additional $10 to access the special exhibits, and it was money well spent. The extra exhibits added so much more to the experience! Whether you're into art, history, or just looking for something fun to do, this is definitely a great way to spend a Thursday. Highly recommend checking it out!

My two favorite pieces are The Bird by Joan Miro and The Bean by Anish Kapoor. The Bean is really titled Cloud Column. It is a precursor piece to the Cloud Gate, "The Bean," in Chicago. It is lovingly referred to locally as "El Frijole," or "The Bean" in Spanish. I love looking at the reflections of these two pieces. "Adam" by Antoine Bourdelle is so much fun to photograph. Bourdelle was a student of Rodin and a teacher of Matisse and Giacometti. They are all represented in the sculpture garden. From generation to generation. Rodin has several pieces here. Once I sent a group of students on a scavenger hunt here to find "The Walking Man." They had to take a photo as proof. The problem? There was a fundraiser going on at the time. The solution? They explained the challenge to the staff and still were able to get their photos very discreetly. Alexander Calder's The Crab. Painted in Calder Red. Look closely to see the legs of the red-shelled spider crab. Love the playfulness of this sculpture. Tony Cragg. Frank Stella. Bryan Hunt. Joel Shapiro. So many amazing modern sculptors. Check out the calendar for events. Yoga. Zumba. Lion dancing. MFAH on the Move. A great place to enjoy art.

The garden is situated right next to the Kinder Building and Glassell School of Art at the MFAH, on the corner of Montrose and Bissonnet Streets. While located at a major intersection of the Museum District, it's tucked tastefully behind an unassuming wall, making it easy to miss while driving by but pleasantly tranquil while inside. The garden has a large number of contemporary and classical pieces by several notable 20th and 21st century artists, such as Louise Bourgeois and Henri Matisse. One of the most popular sculptures is the Cloud Column, a 30-foot reflective steel bean shaped column designed by Anish Kapoor, the same artist who created the famous Chicago bean. This sculpture is a fantastic center to take photos from any angle. The space is designed with a number of low walls to create a natural separation between the pieces but still making it easy for visitors to wander around without a defined path. The garden is completely free to visit and has a number of small tables to sit down, relax, and immerse yourself in the visual experience.

My husband and I both cried because it was sentimental of how we related to the actual animated film. My only advice would be to NOT take babies or children who aren't capable of sitting still and listening to the show. The first half of the show was interrupted by a couple allowing their baby and toddler to continue to whine and repeatedly ask for her mama. After a while, the dad finally left with his baby. Naturally, it was only after attracting some attention from others that the situation became evident. We adore babies/children; however, this was not the place for them. I blame the parents for being self-centered and ignoring their baby by allowing her to whine and waiting until almost the end of the first half of the show to excuse themselves out. I wish the staff would have noticed and stepped in. They're usually vocal when it comes to food or pictures and should also pay attention to whining babies.

Parking in the adjacent garage is $15. Next time I will get there at least an hour prior to get lower level parking. We arrived 15 minutes prior to show time and it took us at least 10 minutes to park and walk into the performance center. And we waited for 25 minutes just to get out of the parking garage when the show was over. Lesson learned. Everyone was dressed from casual (boo) to dressy/business casual (ladies in sundresses and some had heels or little sandals and men were in slacks and dress shirts or polo shirts and some men had suits or jackets or just a buttoned down collared shirt and khakis.) Personally, I dont like to go see a performance and see people in shorts and t shirts especially on a Saturday night performance, It runs the gamut in case you're wondering "how should I dress?" Intermission offered a full bar and snacks and candy. Tickets for our seating area were $128 pp next time I'll sit closer and pay more. Overall we had a fun time!
