I have brought my MacBook Pro to Truong twice. The first time was for a thorough clean. I dropped it off and he was done with it quick and the price was reasonable. My computer came back super clean and happy. The second time, I had left it overnight in very cold weather and my battery died. After nearly five years, it was to be expected. Truong is great! Super knowledgeable, totally trusted him to give me honest assessment of repairs needed, cost, and any risk. Price quoted up front did not change a penny from end charge. I had spilled coffee on my 2012 macbook air. Some of the keys weren't working- not just stuck. Totally not working. Was worried the cost of repair would make it more advisable to just buy a new comp, which I was not thrilled about. Emailed Truong about issue, and he gave me up front notice that if logic board or certain other components were damaged, cost of repair would be much higher than if all he had to replace was keyboard. And he wouldn't know what needed replacement until he opened it up and saw what was messed up. Truong sent me pictures throughout the process which not only was great service, but also really interesting. Fortunately for me, I just needed a new keyboard, so total cost was $180. Truong told me there was some risk that with the replacement of just the keyboard and not the total top- that might make the keyboard feel unstable in the middle. Ultimately, though, he did such a great and thorough job with the replacement that this was not an issue. I really like that this is a small, independent business. Truong is very through, and available outside 9-5 hrs, which was key for me. I brought my laptop in Monday evening, he took it apart, cleaned it out, let it dry, made his diagnosis, ordered the new keyboard, it took 3 days for that delivery- it arrived on Saturday, and he installed it the same day and had it ready for pick up by Sat eve. The hard drive in my MacBook Pro crashed for the second time in a year. The first time this happened, I went to two Apple stores (Rosedale AND MOA) and they basically told me that since I purchased my computer through MacMall, there was nothing they could do for me....even though my computer was still covered by Apple care. So I bought a hard drive on newegg.com and had it put in and spent too much time and money on the process. Come 10 months later (May 2013), the same thing happened again. I came across a major issue, when I was replacing my hard drive on my iMac, in the process I messed up a component on my logic board which makes the display work. Apple and other people were going to charge $600+ to replace and fix it. I did some of my own research in trying to find people to fix it and how to repair the problem for cheaper instead of replacing. I finally found a solution which required some micro soldering. I hired Truong to transfer two operating systems -- Mac OS and Windows 7 -- from one MacBook Air to another. Windows 7 was on a Bootcamp partition, and I wasn't confident that I'd be able to safely migrate the two OS's and various programs and applications associated with each to the new computer. My system suffered an external hard drive "incident" but not a crash. Within four hours he had diagnosed the problem and began a recovery scan. When he determined his software was not capable of performing the "deep scan" necessary to recover valuable data, he referred me to a national company to begin the recovery-all within 48 hours. For any computer problems, Truong is awesome! I live in St. Paul, MN, and have used him through his website as the IT Sage (that's how I met him) six times over the last few years. Both my wife and I have Macintosh computers and we work for ourselves at home, and when problems come up, especially for configuration (which has to be done physically here, where we are, with all out equipment here), Truong will literally come to our home and fix up the problem. Over the years, we've now got Macbooks, a Time Capsule (which backs up storage, and also is used as a router), and we each have iPhones. It's funny, big computer and tech companies seem to assume that if you are buying their products, you are automatically an expert on all things IT related, so suddenly, I not only need to run my business, I need to be able to repair and configure all the computer-related issues? I recently spilled coffee on my Macbook Pro and then did everything wrong (turned it on again, tipped it over, blew a fan in it, etc.) The Apple store geniuses (sic) told me it would be at least a $750 repair if it could be repaired.
