Having recently experienced full knee replacement surgery, I knew both from my surgeon, and anecdotally from a number of friends and other sources, that expertly guided PT (along with my dedication to it) was the most critical aspect to achieving long-term success and a satisfying complete recovery. I have been working with the amazing professionals at the Jackson Clinic in Old Town Alexandria. Although the entire atmosphere is one of ultra-care, advanced levels of professionalism, individualized treatment and support, I wish to name several of the specific people I've worked with that are superstars in their areas of work: - Fran, the effervescent and highly efficient receptionist/office manager that welcomes me each time I arrive for PT with genuine interest in my well-being, expert handling of all billing and insurance related matters, and who (shhh, this part is a secret) will charge up my iPhone if needed when I'm going through my 90 minutes or so of PT. Fran is the "face" of the clinic -- and a delight to interact with at the beginning and end of every appointment. - Sonal, one of two PT's that supports my recovery and rapid improvement in knee mobility and return to normalcy (not finished yet), but every time we do the work I feel Sonal's sincere interest and willingness to patiently answer any questions I have and give me feedback on my progress -- which motivates me even more to do my part in the healing process. Sonal certainly establishes the "partnership" relationship required for a successful outcome. In addition to her capable supportive therapy, she is also a delight to talk with -- a warm and gracious person. - Elwira, the other half of my PT dynamic duo, is definitely a person you want on your team of experts. Working with me through the sometimes "grueling" (not tortuous!) exercises required for me to return to my full life of long teaching days, walking correctly, bending at the knees so I can more easily communicate with my young elementary students. When I heard people say, "your knee replacement will be a positive life changer" I didn't know what to expect -- I suppose I had some dread about the PT part. Elwira seems to intuitively know that it isn't easy for patients to go through the PT process; but she also knows how to get me to my end-goals while supporting my every effort. All in all, The Jackson Clinic @ Old Town Alexandria is a superlative operation, on every level. I recommend them without any reservation whatsoever. I had arthroscopic knee surgery in May 2023 and required physical therapy. I called the Jackson Clinics, Alexandria, VA and, even though they were already heavily booked, Jasmine made every effort to get me scheduled for my initial consultation within 3 days of my surgery with the Director of the Clinic, Erin Burford. Since that time, I have continued to work with Erin, along with Physical Trainers Elwira and Bree. After approximately two months, I can honestly say that my experience has been exceptional and I am very pleased with the professional, knowledgeable and friendly staff. They focus on the developing a therapy and exercise plan to help me achieve my post-operative goals and they also continue to challenge me from one session to the next to ensure continued progress. In addition, they take time to discuss any changes that have occurred, concerns and questions that I have as well as how I feel that I am progressing. They also include education as part of the process, helping me to understand how each exercise helps with my recovery. I've been impressed with the great communication system that they have in place so that if, on the rare occasion, Erin or one of the trainers is out, a substitute steps in and pick up where my last session left off with no disruption whatsoever. Everyone that I have worked with is compassionate and caring about me and my well being. Recently, I had a good friend pass away and Erin took the time to listen and explain how emotions, especially grief, can affect pain and recovery. She taught me a breathing exercise to help relieve some of the stress from grief that was actually causing additional knee pain. I am so very grateful for Erin's support. I want to commend the front office staff for being so professional, pleasant and polite and for making every effort to schedule time that is most convenient for me. They always greet each patient that enters with a smile and are focused on getting questions answered promptly and are great at calling when there are cancellations. It is a very well organized front office. In closing, I have been to several different physical therapy clinics over the years with different experiences and results. Based on all of the above, I highly recommend the Jackson Clinics, Alexandria office, to anyone that requires physical therapy. It is a well run, efficient and effective facility with highly trained staff who truly are dedicated to helping each patient achieve their therapy goals and returning to as normal a life a possible. read more

I just "graduated" from OT Jackson Clinics after two plus months of therapy. I had been suffering from upper back pain since I gave birth two years ago. My primary care physician sent me to them. To be honest, I wasn't that optimistic about therapy because I waited too long to be seen by a physician and the pain felt like something more serious than what it was. They proved me wrong! I had a pleasant experience at this location ... and I have to name my rockstars! The front desk staff, specifically Fran was very welcoming and accommodating. Since this location is close to my office, I wanted to come and do my therapies during lunch time or after work. In addition, there were certain days of the week I could not come. Fran was very well attentive to my needs and found me schedules that perfectly worked. I ended up not taking a single hour off from work as everything worked around my schedule. There were times I had to call in and cancel my appointments. Fran was very patient and was quick to find me a substitute appointment. My therapist, Kristin Dickman was the BEST for lack of a better word. She listened to my complaints and laid out a plan that took care of my issue. There were days in which my pain was at its highest and also days where I felt normal. She helped me identify what triggers my pain (different postures while doing my routine activities), explained why, and helped me be conscious about them. She would customize my therapy and exercises depending on how I felt that day instead of following similar patterns every session. But above all, I was happy that she was always on time (I never sat outside waiting) and that she spends the full half hour working on me and not rushed me off her table. On my last day, Kristin went over exercises that I need to be doing on my own and sent me an electronic copy via email. She also assured me that she will answer any questions I may have in the future. I worked with Ashley (front desk) and Elwira who are also awesome. read more

My only other experience with physical therapy was several years ago at a place that seems to have vanished off the face of the planet. They were okay, but for my strained lower back, they mostly showed me some exercises and that was it. Not surprising they don't exist. Fortunately that problem healed itself. Most recently, I developed two unrelated issues at the same time. First, "frozen shoulder," a painful inflammation of the shoulder tissues that can severely limit range of motion of the arm, shoulder and back. The second was Achilles tendonosis, which made walking difficult. My sports doctor referred me to Jackson Clinics. There happens to be a location in Old Town Alexandria, walking distance from my home. I was happy to know that not only did my sessions involve a physical therapist (Donnie) AND a personal trainer (Hilary.) PT involved working the troubled areas much like chiropractic therapy might. The training involved showing me how with stretching and exercise, I can regain motion and relieve the pain without any medications. In less than a month, I was back to walking 5 miles a day, and in just two months, I have regained enough motion in my shoulder to be able to able to be active enough with little pain I no longer need to PT. Hilary suggested enough exercises that I can continue on without their help. Personal attention in these matters is important. The staff seems to take genuine interest and in my case, they got the job done. I can't vouch for the Jackson Clinic's other locations, but if their ethic is the same, I'd go for any of them. read more

I started going to the Jackson Clinic (Old Town)in July of last year! I fractured my knee cap at the beginning of summer! Bummer right!? This is my first major injury and I had no idea about orthopedists, dealing with insurance, who is the best physical therapist etc etc... I just went to the closest place I could find near my office which happened to be the Jackson Clinic in Old Town. I spoke to Nina and Marlin about getting set up for therapy sessions-not as easy as just making an appointment. I had to get the referrals from the ortho and primary care before I could start which is a daunting task when dealing with insurance and getting right scripts...etc etc. Well, Nina and Marlin explained what I needed to do, how get it all facilitated quickly so I could start my sessions. I was paired with Kristen and Hillary!! LOVE YOU GIRLS!!! But even when they were not available, I had sessions with practically the entire OT clinic. Amanda and Donnie are pretty awesome too! Although, I think Donnie must think I am nuts! I talk too much! Hey, I figured if I am coming twice a week for torture (not really) I would have to make it fun! Yes, it can be fun. That aside, they are highly professional, trained and caring! I would see people I know, I would recommend the Jackson Clinic to friends who needed PT and I will be coming back to see them .... They really are GREAT!!!! read more

These folks will fix you up! Another great experience - I had to go to The Jackson Clinic for another ailment, as I had mysterious numbness in my arms and hands after having a baby. My PT Mason Wallace was recommended to me since Amanda had moved to another TJC location. He did a great job listening and carefully evaluating my condition, then working with me over several months to get everything functioning well again. I was willing to live with some pain and loss of function, but Mason kept me going until I was fully healed. When I went in to the clinic, my arms were so numb I was afraid I was going to drop the baby. By the time I left several months later, I was able to shovel my way out of Snowzilla, and the results have stayed with me - I just finished digging up my garden for spring. I really appreciated how well informed the staff is, how carefully they listen and explain the work, how they encourage the work you have to do, and how they equip you with at-home exercises to make sure you stay well. Also very helpful office managers, great appointment availability and flexibility, and nice, clean facilities. Happy to keep recommending Mason, Amanda, Donnie, Elwira, Hilary, and all the rest of the great folks at TJC! read more

I have received physical therapy treatment at the Jackson Clinic's Old Town location for the past few months and have had a terrific experience. The entire staff is friendly, helpful and easy to work with regarding scheduling, exercises, etc. Moreover, it is apparent from working with my therapist, Kristen, and trainer, Hilary, that both are truly talented and care about helping their patients recover quickly. That said, it is important to say that Kristen is absolutely first rate. After receiving 3+ months of treatment at another PT practice and making very little progress I was very discouraged. However, I met with Kristen in April and in our initial visit she was able to immediately identify what the source of my discomfort was and communicate it clearly to me. From there, she laid out a very reasonable plan and I have made consistent progress in my recovery each week. Soon, I will be able to resume all of my normal activities free of pain. Lastly, Kristen has been a pleasure to work with throughout the process as she is extremely knowledgeable and has a very positive outlook. After such an exceptional experience here, I strongly recommended this clinic to anyone looking to recover quickly in a great environment. read more

Strongly recommend Jackson Clinics Alexandria if you are an athlete struggling with low grade but persistent pain and lack of flexibility when training. I have lumbar spine and hip flexor issues - not major, but noticeable after long training events or races. I am a runner/triathlete/skier with a historically weak core and limited abducting capability, due the nature of repetitive and in-line motion associated with my sports of choice. My PT Logan and exercise therapists Hillary and Maphese were all incredibly helpful in getting me into a routine of core strengthening and mobility/flexibility exercises, which have made a noticeable improvement in my pain reduction. The entire staff (front office included!!!) is very outgoing, positive and encouraging, while still holding you accountable for doing the work that must be done to overcome an injury or chronic condition. Physical Therapy is meant to have an end point, where you are released to continue the work on your own. I've reached that point, but I miss my sessions and the interactions with the staff. But they have helped me autonomously continue the work ethic they instilled during my three months as a patient. Thanks everyone! read more

Imagine, it's your birthday. You're leaving work, ready to celebrate, when you miss a step and go sliding down a flight of stairs. After all is said and done you're diagnosed with a fractured calcaneus (heel bone or something). And after months of a dreadful boot on your foot, you're released to regular shoes and PT. Enter Jackson Clinics! Fran was absolutely AWESOME in my initial booking. They were busy, but she made sure I was booked out for weeks so that I could receive the proper therapy. I was assigned to Kristen as my therapist and Maphase as my trainer. Between the two of them I was able to reach my goals of running and wearing heels again (just in time for my best friend's wedding!). They cared about both my foot and my life. I looked forward to go to therapy every other day (despite how much they worked me!). Oh and Hillary was great too! She helped out from time to time. All in all it was a fantastic experience. I made much progress on their pain survey and am now trottin' around DC in heels again (carefully of course)! Hopefully I will not have any more injuries, but if I do, I will definitely seek out the assistance of Old Town's Jackson Clinics. read more

I had a great experience at The Jackson Clinic in Old Town as part of rehab from knee surgery. Donnie was my primary physical therapist, and I also worked with Amanda and Kristen when he was on vacation. After each session with the PT, I worked with Hilary to complete exercises to help increase my range of motion and build strength. My injury is atypical with no standard protocol for PT treatment, and even when recovering took longer than I was hoping for, Donnie and Hilary were positive and supportive which helped me keep a good attitude about the whole thing. The team is extremely friendly and eager to help in any way they can, and helped me to adapt my plan/provide exercises to complete whether I was in their office, at the gym, at home, or traveling. Since I am also a member of Old Town Sport & Health, coming here was a no brainer, but I would suggest it for non-members as well, as you can still use the showers/locker room and get ready for work after your appointment, which is a huge win in my book. One thing to note is that the schedule gets booked up pretty quickly, so I would recommend scheduling your sessions as far in advance as possible. read more

I highly recommend this team of Physical Therapists. They are the best. They treat you with dignity and respect. They care about rehabilitating you completely. They make you a part of your rehab. When talking to family and friends that need Physical Therapy, I recommend The Jackson Clinic. The staff is very professional and most of all nice and kind! Unfortunately, I had to have Physical Therapy twice for the same shoulder. I re-injured my shoulder from a nasty fall I had the weekend before Thanksgiving. Thank God I did not hurt myself too bad this time. I went back to Jackson Clinic to my same Physical Therapist Doctor Kristen Landers. I just love her! Always pleasant. I Just completed my physical therapy with Alisha after surgery for a rotator cuff tear. After five months of PT twice weekly, I never thought I would have progressed this quickly. With her gentle urging and focus on ensuring that the first six weeks of passive therapy sessions were not rushed, I was able to progress to what I thought was a pretty fast timeframe. I never thought PT was supposed to be enjoyable, but I have to say, Alisha had me looking forward to coming to the sessions and motivated me to want to work hard when I did my exercises at home. She is a true professional and Jackson Clinic is lucky to have her on their staff. Hillary was her partner for my exercises and was great to work with as well. And Fran at the front office was professional and caring right from the beginning when I spoke with her on the phone. Just listening to her while I waited for my appointments in the reception area, she was able to handle inquiries on the phone while patients were standing in front of her wanting answers to their own inquiries. Who would have thought that going to physical therapy after a total knee operation would be fun? Well, that's exactly what I experienced at the Jackson Clinic's facility in Old Town Alexandria! Of course, the therapists and staff - mine included Kristin, Mason, Elwira, and several others - were very skilled in their evaluations, and the prescribed exercises were quite effective in restoring strength and function in my leg, and in general quiet helpful in improving my overall conditioning. But, the key for me was how the staff, from the receptionists to the therapists, always greeted patients in a warm and engaging style, paying special attention to each patient's unique needs. And, it was clear that everyone enjoyed working there, as the friendly atmosphere was ever-present. One is never a stranger at the Jackson Clincs! So, in spite of the discomfort associated with rehab, my experience of the Jackson Clinics was uniformly positive and I truly looked forward to my visits! read more

I just finished up 2 months of twice-weekly physical therapy here for my neck, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Everyone I encountered here - PTs, PTAs, administrative staff, trainees - was friendly, good-humoured, kind, and really good at what they do. I mostly worked with Kristin and Elwira, both of whom were knowledgeable, patient and helpful responding to my questions, and not only helped me but also pushed me to help myself. The environment is a really convivial one - it's one big room, so you're usually there with 2 to 5 other patients, but it never felt claustrophobic or crowded to me. If you prefer more privacy, I could see this being an issue, but everyone there seemed fine with it. The clinic is in the basement of Old Town Sports & Health, so you can use their changing rooms and showers before or after your appointment, which is nice, especially in warmer weather, or when they have you doing a long regimen of strenuous exercises. read more

My experiences at The Jackson Clinic have been truly exceptional. From the front desk staff to the physical therapists and certified trainers, every interaction was welcoming, pleasant, and each person is remarkably knowledgeable. I had been suffering from undiagnosed hip injury for quite some time when my doctor suggested I do physical therapy. I was very fortunate that in no time my physical therapist determined that I had an atypical hip joint tear, which was then confirmed by a specialist, and I ended up having surgery to repair the injury. After being extremely impressed with their help when determining what was causing my discomfort, I naturally returned to The Jackson Clinic after I had my hip procedure and they helped me recover to where I am as active now as I was before my injury. The optimistic attitude and motivation of the employees made such a positive impact on my recovery - I can't recommend them highly enough. read more

Most recently, I had an issue with my hip/thigh/knee and worked with Kristin as my therapist, and Elvira as my sports trainer/therapist. I had PT @ TJC for over 2 months for neck, shoulder and back/spine injuries I had sustained. Logan, Hilary and Jordan were exemplary. They were highly skilled; very knowledgeable yet personable which are great ingredients for success and recovery. They were so supportive and willing to work with my schedule which was great. It was so inspiring to reflect on how I felt initially and my health condition & treatment compared to the results which was me feeling so much stronger, no intense pain and healthier with none of those restrictive issues I had experienced previously. I came in for physical therapy at the Jackson Clinic in Old Town around 3+ months ago for chronic neck and back issues that I had been dealing with for over 10 years. With the help of Logan, Hilary, and Kristin, I feel so much better and have a better quality of life now. They not only helped with resolving my immediate tightness and pain, but also gave me the tools needed for long term recovery. They really take the time to listen and tailor exercises/hands on therapy to your individual needs instead of a cookie cutter experience like some other places. The front desk ladies, Erica and Ashley, were also super nice and welcoming every time I came in. They even helped handle some billing issues I had with my insurance throughout treatment and were more than understanding about it. I worked with Kristen and Hillary re lower back pain, and they were both excellent - the best experience I've had with physical therapy. I'm without pain in my back for the first time in about 3 years!! They listened to me when an exercise was uncomfortable due to arthritis, etc. and would always find an alternative that worked equally well but didn't hurt. Kristen and Hillary really LISTEN to you about what's going on with your body and adapt the PT to fit you. They were really great about educating me about my issue and techniques to avoid having problems in the future. They were also concerned about how long the exercises will take at home so they can fit into your "real life" and gave me ways to shorten the time, like doing two exercises at the same time. They also told me to call if I have questions or need help after I was done with therapy. read more
