I'm going to be honest. I just didn't enjoy my meal. I had what was supposed to be the shrimp enchiladas, but it was really a cheese enchilada with a couple of shrimp on it. The rice and beans were the best part of my meal. I also had a jalapeño-Lime margarita because I was just curious and was hoping for some redemption for the lackluster meal. I didn't really find it. Think of Spicy, Lime Fabuloso with some tequila thrown in and garnished with a jalapeño pepper. I truly tried to find something I like. On my Jalapeño Tree bucket list this is #7. And definitely in my top 3. The curb appeal is standard, but the interior is jam packed with jalapeño tree esthetics. Andrew (our server) admitted that he was still learning and that he might have to clarify our order and ask questions. I'm assuming based on what his computer needed him to type in. The only flaw in our service occurred BECAUSE he chose to guess. The menu said my meal came with beans, but he chose rice instead. No thanks. Outside of that one mistake he was great! Came to Kilgore to visit my cousin and we ended up here for lunch! Super cute place; very colorfully decorated. They offered a ton of options. The waitress was super sweet and attentive; never left our drink go less than half full. Everything we ordered was tasty and the portions were quite large. They say crazy good Mexican food... so I had to go see for myself. I ordered the Bob Hope. It had a cheese enchilada, chicken enchilada and chicken flauta. It was delicious!! The chicken was shredded and had such an great flavor. I ordered the grilled squash and it was so yummy!!! And they served a queso puffy taco with it. And save room for the dessert. I didn't get a picture but the sopapilla was jalapeño shaped and came with honey butter or just honey to dip it in. It was fantastic. I also appreciate that they had a sign up acknowledging their struggle during these times with employees. Terrible dining experience. My wife stopped in for lunch at the Kilgore, TX location. I had a simple taco/tamale combo plate, and my wife ordered the lunch beef fajita quesadilla. My food was so-so, not terrible, but nothing to write home about. My wife's quesadilla, on the other hand, was dry and tasteless, and looked as though it had been sitting under a heat lamp for awhile. As disappointing as the food was, the service was much, much worse. Once our waitress brought our food, she hurried off, and we didn't see her again until she brought the check. When asked how everything was, my wife told her about the terrible quesadilla (Which had only 2 bites out of it), and she blew us off as if it was no big deal, and walked off again. We flagged down another server and asked to speak to the manager. Speaking with the manager it was obvious why the service was so bad. He was just as dismissive as our server and actually told us that the flavor of their food was out of their control. (Um, WHAT????) He refused to remove her food from the ticket, and instead told us that when we came back in he would give us a discount. Believe me, there will be no next time! read more

I've been to this Jalapeno Tree several times now, each time with coworkers. As soon as you sit, they bring out chips with some salsa and a creamy whitish-green dip, all of which are pretty good. Being vegetarian, the options at most Mexican places is limited to the basics: enchiladas, quesadillas or chile relleno (cheese only). Of all the different varieties of each of the options I've tried here, none of them have really ever left me walking away impressed. The food isn't bad, I've just certainly had better at other Mexican food places. My coworkers seem to enjoy what they get here, so that's good. Today, I finally tried the vegetarian quesadillas, which have squash, spinach and mushrooms. These come with a side of guac, sour cream and queso. These are probably the best dish I've had here, so I was pleasant surprised. I know we'll continue coming here, so I think this will be my go-to dish from now on. For the first time in many years I decided to celebrate my birthday in my hometown. I live tacos love Mexican food so my mom brought me here to celebrate my birthday. We walked in were greeted there was maybe a 10 minute wait. We were seated our drink orders were taken and can we just talk about the sangria swirled margarita. It was 1 of the best I've had. The menu was easy to understand and our waitress was great. The food arrived as did my 2nd margarita and we couldn't have been happier. Everything we ordered loved up to our expectations will definitely return. It's safe to say I had a wonderful birthday I had great food and spent it with family. What more could I ask for? read more

I love jalapeño tree's avocado ranch dip, I could eat myself sick on chips and that dip. I've had several things there that were pretty good and I've had a few things there that I didn't care for at all, so for me it's a hit and miss. We both ordered taco salads for lunch today and we thought they were really good. I think our server was setting them on our table within four or five minutes of ordering! The ground beef in them was seasoned perfectly and all the ingredients were fresh. The complimentary chips are salsa were as good as you will find anywhere. I was in Kilgore for a few days, and kept driving by this place, and several times, there were many cars. Thought that was a good barometer, plus I yearned for a good tortilla soup. Ordered just a bowl of soup and tea. That's it. Wasn't dissappointed at all.... good soup. Chips and salsa were average, green sauce was better than the red. Only complaint... guess in a small town everyone knows everyone else. The waitress decided to carry on a conversation with the table behind me for the duration of my meal. Green sauce is the best. Red sauce isn't bad. Chips were hot and had the perfect texture. The tortillas are fantastic. You also have your free ice cream at the end. Service was great. How can a Mexican restaurant not have good crispy beef tacos? These are dry and tasteless. The lettuce is that pre-cut stuff in the sack treated with preservative which remains on the lettuce and tastes awful. Finally a man comes by and asks if we have been served. Nope. He brought us chips and drinks and said he would have someone come by. Never did. In between his other duties we did get food.
