It's a local family owned place that is really into the hobby, not just profit margins. I had a Rafael Catfish that died after 31 years. Regular big retailers would have laughed, but Cindy actually cared ordered two new ones just for me, They're in my tank now, doing fine. In addition to maybe a hundred tanks of fish, they have every medicine, filter, and gizmo you could imagine, on shelves on the walls from floor to ceiling. They're also very nice people. We agreed on a trade based on that information. I then drove about two hours to the shop. When I arrived, they placed the fish in their tank and then told me they were "too big" for their system. This was confusing because I had already been very clear about their size during our phone conversation. After driving such a long distance, it was frustrating to have them change their position. The fish were slightly stressed from transport, which is normal after a two-hour drive, but they were healthy. I was told they "weren't happy with the way they looked," and no trade was offered at all. Not even a partial trade. Overall, it felt like a waste of time and gas, especially after we had already discussed and agreed on the details beforehand. I just wish they had honored their word or at least tried to work something out. Very disappointing experience.

My wife loaded up the two kids sick by the way drove the hr to the store only for the grumpy old miserable pos behind the counter to talk to her like a dog! Refuse to help her and tell her he won't call the person that sold her the fish because it's his day off but that she could come back at 1 when he would be there??? I thought he was off. Then proceeded to say he can't check the water while testing the water and confirming the water was good. This place is a joke and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone now the service has dropped dramatically.

As most saltwater aquarium owners, you are constantly learning. I hope others will learn from my bad experience. UPDATE 8/16/19 Recent visits to Upscale have been 180% different from a year ago. Fish quality and selection has improved greatly. Coral selection and pricing is best in Lake Norman area and very competitive with anything within 50 miles. New employees have takes great care to provide cleaner tanks and Kate has been very helpful with purchasing consultation. I will be back and probably many times. One female was extremely sick, she had fun rot, developed a prolapse, and multiple other issues. Unfortunately the fish didn't recover. All the females passed away fast, within a few weeks for no obvious reason. I decided recently to try purchasing from them again and now I only have one female guppy fish living. The males I bought are doing pretty good. But I went from 14 guppies to 1 guppy in just a matter of 3 weeks. I also ordered snails which one looked NOTHING like the picture. It looks so different I can't even tell what kind of snail it is. Maybe when/if it gets bigger it will look like what I paid for.

Our experience was GREAT from the minute we walked in. Although young, the engaged staff was attentive and interactive. I was offered a tour of the facility; everything appeared clean, organized & well planned. Their app with access to camper play areas on video is a wonderful way to check in on your pet. I watched his interaction with other dogs and the staff, as well as other play areas and the staff thoroughly cleaning floors/sections when dogs went outside for a time. The place is very clean and I liked the furniture and comfort this provided as I waited for my turn. Coffee, clean restrooms for customers, and available Wifi were definitely major pluses compared to other overnight/grooming facilities I have used in the past. I took the tour and liked the size and cleanliness of the overnight kennels and the hours allowed for playtime with other dogs. Both dogs will be tested for compatibility, a rule they have before daycare or overnight stays are allowed. Prices are very reasonable, and I do appreciate the cameras available to watch your pets when they are at play. The baths were done well and both wolves were happy with the outcomes.
