I was wrapping up my subscription. I called earlier in the week to confirm I could squeeze in an appointment on Saturday before my visits expired. They said yes. I arrived and every location in Albuquerque had a sign on their door saying closed after 1:30. Only after the 3rd location did one of the signs reference that the franchisee closed all locations during working hours on a weekend to have a meeting. Likely the most offensive and downright wrong experience in modern life is finding out that someone has been stealing from you, particularly if it's a recurring charge that you hadn't noticed for months. Even something minor, like a streaming service that I thought I cancelled, can get me upset, but if it's a hefty healthcare charge, man, does that HURT. I prefaced the conversation with the following: "Look, I'm going to guess that you're simply an employee of this company, you don't decide policy, so if that's the case, please don't take any of this personally, but I'm about to rip on your employer." And then I did. I visited this place five months ago, in the midst of debilitating pain, and I was told I would need to sign up for a two month plan. Sign me up. The visits were great, they fixed me within four weeks, awesome. For the last three months they've been charging my account, even though I haven't visited since September -- and they know this, because their system records every visit. They have a policy where you have to cancel your membership in person, which is additionally sketchy. And to top it all off, I was told that the woman who initially signed me up, way back in August, when I could hardly walk, she was fired. Why? They learned she wasn't correctly informing new patients of company policies. Nice, guys. It's called customer service. I want my money back. read more

This was my husband's first visit to a chiropractor and he loved it! He experienced relief immediately and we signed him up for the wellness plan with weekly visits! We love that he can go whenever he feels the need with no appointments required! That's so awesome! It really helps that he can get pain relief when he's in pain instead of waiting. We drive Semi (brought Lion King into Popejoy) for a living. Now on Wed I got Oglesbee and he learned from Palmer institute in Iowa which my old dr Pettibon taught a special technique. He adjusted my head (neck) with activator then put blocks under me face down and got my hips. Ya!! Then my shoulder blades. I can sit very easily now. I'm telling u .. I've been a member here for about a year and have greatly enjoyed my experience. Dr Hirning is an excellent chiropractor and can relieve pain and discomfort quickly, which is great for those with busy schedules. The wait is typically not too long, about 15 minutes is average. When it was a longer wait, I typically caught up on my emails. Their hours and flexibility are a key reason why I'm planning on keeping my membership, even though I'm moving to Seattle (there are locations there, too!). Overall, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend others to see Dr. Hirning for their chiropractic needs. read more

Extremely disappointed. My first few adjustments were great, but over the past 3 weeks, after signing on with their monthly program, things went way downhill. 1) On one event, I went to check in and was told the doctor was out to lunch. OK, no problem -- I came back 2 hours later. When I returned, there were 6 patients ahead of me and the receptionist told me "Oh its gunna be awhile" when I asked how long the wait was. I decided to wait only to overhear that the doctor had been injured in a car accident and needed to take 20 mins between patients to recover. This sounds dangerous for both him and patients -- I left and went to a different location. 2) When I arrived at a different location, the receptionist, on a personal phone-call, told us to wait and then after 2 minutes told us "Oh I forgot, the doctor isnt in today". How do you forget this???? Moreover, why is the place open without a doctor to provide any service?? 3) I figured, OK, maybe it was the holidays and I just had bad luck -- so I called to ask if they had a doctor and if they were open here at the Montano office. I got a recording saying they had a doctor from 3pm - 7pm. Perfect! So I drive over, at 5:00 pm, and the door is locked and lights off... Clearly closed. Not sure what kind of business is being run here but its no good. Not anymore. read more

I was helped courteously at the front desk and there was a short waiting period with 5 patients ahead of me. Dr. Hirning was very gentle with me and used the activator at my request. I struggled to choose between 3 stars and 4. I have been going to a chiropractor for years, so I'm a big believer in the ability for manual chiropractic adjustment to really help with my lower back pain. The care I received here was good, and had it not been for their sales techniques, I would likely be back. However, as I have lived different places, I have learned that there is a wide variety of ways that chiropractic care is SOLD or marketed to you as a patient. Most chiropractors are simple and down to earth - they do some massage or TENS therapy followed by an adjustment. They tell you to call back in a week if you are still hurting. For chronic pain, you might be offered a package deal that saves you money if you will be coming in often. However, there is a widespread practice that I call "used car salesman" chiropractors. These types will treat your problem, but the entire time you are in their office you feel like they're trying to sell you either a package deal of chiropractic care (6 visits for $XX) or some miracle fluid that seems a bit like a hoax. Personally, I DESPISE feeling "sold to" and have learned NOT to bow to the pressure of a strong willed salesperson, but it feels very uncomfortable to have to determine what "advice" is in your best interest vs. what is just being said to sell you something. To me, there is nothing wrong with offering a special deal if people are willing to prepay for care or offering a membership, but I have a big problem when I feel like someone is pushing me in a direction that is most financially beneficial to them without making it very clear that I have other options. SO- why did I go to big lengths to mention all this? It is because, in the end, The Joint was a little too salesy for my comfort. From the moment I signed in I noticed small details and things that were being said that were preparing me to be sold a package of visits or a membership. I was there because I had hurt my back and my regular chiro could not work me in that day. While I was filling out the forms, the friendly person at the front desk started talking about all the benefits of chiropractic care, saying things like it helps your sinuses or that it is great to maintain your alignment even if you aren't in pain. While all of this might be true, it was just noticeable enough that it felt more like a sales routine than an employee sharing genuine information. When I met the doctor, he was very friendly and enthusiastic. He seemed to misunderstand and thought I was new to chiropractic and launched into a long explanation about how chiropractic care is a long process and that one adjustment would not be a miracle fix. I say long because I stood there listening for probably 5 minutes while he went on and on while I was just hoping he would begin treating me soon so I could get some pain relief. I will say that I was impressed that he went over all of the safety information and explained the techniques and equipment he would be using. Although I have been a lifelong chiropractic patient, no one is ever explained any of those things to me before. I would have really appreciated this information if I did not feel like he was also trying to sell me something at the same time. The treatment he provided was good, but he did not ask me how I was doing or allow me a moment to give any feedback because he was talking so much. I have never been treated by someone who talked SO much at such high speeds while also cracking my back and adjusting me. He wasn't necessarily talking about what he was doing or asking if something felt good or bad... He was just talking nonstop. Sometimes it can be hard to relax your muscles when you know you are about to get an adjustment, so I found it very difficult to relax and understand what I was supposed to be doing as a patient because he was talking so much. By this time, he had dropped plenty of hints that I should do their monthly plan. He never asked if I wanted to sign up with a plan or even mentioned the cost, but after the treatment he took me around front and asked the receptionist to set me up on the monthly Wellness plan. This was more of an instruction and less of a question. After he went back around the corner, I said I did not want to do a plan, and would rather pay per visit. I will give the receptionist credit for not pushing at all - instead, she simply explained the future visit would be $39 each and I could sign up for a package of plans or a monthly plan in the future if I found that I was coming regularly. In the end, my rating is an average of these factors: 5 stars for the actual adjustment - it was a huge pain relief and I felt he was safe and very skilled 5 stars for their walk in approach and great hours 5 stars for the cost of treatment (and the low-cost an ongoing care if you do a plan - it is a great deal compared to where I normally go) 1 star for the somewhat underhanded sales technique 1 star for the amount of talking read more

The past 5 times It was in over an hour wait which just doesn't work for me. Initially I was sold on the idea of the "in and out" concept and that worked for me so I purchased the $429 package and now I would like a refund on my remaining 3 visits, or will I be screwed? I went in because it was my regular chiropractors day off. I showed up at 10 when they opened and got in quickly after filling out the paperwork. The Dr. explained they were basically no frills and there to adjust patients and get them on their way. There were three beds in one room but only one Dr working at the moment so I was alone in the room with the Dr. He asked about where I was hurting and when it started. He then adjusted the part of my spine where I was hurting. There seemed to be a little relief but I have never been to a chiropractor that they did not adjust my whole spine. Tonight I still hurt and will try to see my regular chiropractor tomorrow. read more

When my regular chiropractor moved out of town, I tried the Joint on Alameda because it was such a convenient location for me. The first time I went, I felt a little pressured to join the monthly plan, but as I knew the value of regular adjustments, I did it. Only after I had my first session and went to pay was I told that I did not get the new patient rate for this visit... and so it ended up being more expensive. I was a little miffed that wasn't explained as I had specifically asked about the first time new patient rate they promote. I believe the doctor was competent, but this is definitely a no frills place. Come in, crack, leave. I have a habitual challenge with my right hip. My former chiropractor would use moist heat on it for 10 mins or so to relax the muscles that were so tight around it. Then she would use a massage technique on the warm muscles before producing a really wonderful adjustment. The doctor at The Joint couldn't get my lower spine to move. She told me I likely have arthritis - which I do not - and sent me on my way. I went back once more since I had paid for the month... and then because I didn't cancel by the right time, I had to pay for a second month. I'm sure this quick no-appointment, in and out methodology works well for some people, but I wouldn't recommend it for those of us with more difficult adjustment needs. The customer service I received after trying to cancel my membership was very rude and unprofessional. The woman I spoke with had a very sharp tongue and rude tone of voice. I was also not told of the 2 month commitment only of a 30 day notice to cancel. The price isn't terrible but they need to be upfront with people if they actually want return customers. I was in and out of the joint really quickly, but felt a bit rushed. So if your going to try out the joint know there is A 2 MONTH COMMITMENT before you can cancel. I wish the front desk would have let me know. Now I'm paying for 2 months at a place I don't want to go back to because of the rude customer service. read more

First of all, I was told I would only be charged for the first two months then it is optional after that. Secondly, I wasn't charged anywhere near the times I was told I would be charged. And third, all the receptionist had to say was that it is unfortunate that they charged me for the third month and that I don't get my money back. The only way to cancel my plan is to go in and sign something! I'm on vacation! You can't tell me you're gonna charge me on the 15th next month, charge me on the 1st of the month after that, and then the 15th of the next month like it was originally supposed to be! I wasn't even expecting to get charged after the 1st of the month just like I was charged the month before. I have been to a few chiropractors over the years with great results. This place is a joke. I'm not even sure they are actually chiropractors. I went in for neck and shoulder pain after a fall a week earlier. The only body part that was aligned was my neck. Then he used a tool all along my spine to "push or move my bones" , never adjusting or aligning my body. My back is in so much pain today. New pain that wasn't there. I have never experienced a chiropractic visit like this. I came in to feel better and not only did he not do what I asked and paid for, which was an alignment, he made me feel so much worse. This was the worse experience I've ever had. I definitely do NOT recommend wasting your time and money here. Don't trust these so called "doctors" with your body. read more

I stopped in today to get some relief from my sciatic pain. I was trying to make it past the weekend, but the pain became worse as the day went on. I arrived just before 4 pm and they close at 5 pm. I was told that I wouldn't be able to be seen because I had never been there before and to come back tomorrow. What's the point of staying open until 5, only to turn customer's away an hour before closing? There wasn't anyone else waiting to be seen. From the start everyone at The Joint were very friendly and more than helpful with my questions as well as concerns. After having an adjustment, I chose the monthly plan that allowed for four visits a month. I felt the cost to be more than reasonable. For your fist visit, you can go to their website and get a coupon for a $19 visit. If you want to sign up for a plan, you can pay $49 a month and get four visits. $12.25 is an awesome deal no matter where you seek chiropractic care.
