I cannot in good conscience recommend you send your preschooler here. This place made my daughter feel sad. I would not have sent her here except we were desperate for childcare at the time. This place has an onerous contract, with no trial period, that means you must pay for an entire year of care. Despite the contract, it was worth $10000 to get my daughter out of this weirdo situation and into somewhere more accepting and fun. My daughter doesn't have special needs. But they did kick out another child, a friend of ours, who is on an IEP. The staff and teachers and aids were all lovely, no problems with them. read more

While the teachers and assistants at The Journey School are excellent--a legacy they inherited from Nurturing Nest, which unfortunately closed in 2023--the administration and board have proven to be dysfunctional and unprofessional. Our experience with one of the administrators was particularly frustrating; she refused to investigate our concerns and instead deflected responsibility, placing all the blame on us. When we tried to discuss the matter further, we were redirected to their so-called 'independent' board-- with two out of three administrators having husbands on the board... Needless to say, the 'independent' board was completely useless in resolving anything. The board's response completely disregarded the actual issue at hand, opting instead to lecture us on unrelated policies. It makes me wonder how hard they even tried to understand. We even provided an entire document with screenshots from communications and the chain of events. This dismissive approach made it clear that both the administration and board lacked basic customer service skills, business acumen, and were more interested in maintaining control than resolving problems. When one parent mentioned that parents are customers, they were met with a defensive attitude. They like to think of themselves as childcare gods, an illusion which could not be farther from the truth. Since moving to a new provider, our experience has been a night-and-day difference. It's refreshing to work in a truly collaborative environment where staff members prioritize partnership with parents. Unfortunately, The Journey School's administration and board come across as arrogant, dismissive, and authoritarian--triggering memories of the worst kind of bureaucratic indifference. We're relieved to have left this toxic environment behind. After just 1 year of operating the preschool, the Journey School lost most families who chose to move on elsewhere, including ourselves. Only 6 families stayed behind in the 3-5 age group, and even then - some just didn't want to bounce their kids elsewhere for one more year of preschool. I hope this will help you evaluate your choices. The last straw for us was their new policy on drop off and pick up. If you are not there with your child by 8:30 am, you cannot drop off until after lunch, which is 12:30. Think about how much stress this will add to your morning. All in all, our experience there was a sad one and I cannot recommend them to anyone, despite the quality of teachers read more

The Journey School is a unique educational experience and wonderful school environment that has given my youngest child an excellent foundation for high school and life. The lessons taught at this school encompass far more than any schools my other children and I have attended. Staff are interested in developing the child as a whole person as well as incorporating the family into that process and other school activities. My child learned about caring for animals (chickens, goats, quail), raising bees, growing vegetables, planning and cooking meals and how these activities can result in products and generate income. As a Montessori school, each child is expected to perform and progress at their own level, be independent learners and doers and are encouraged to find passion in their assignments which leads to greater success and deeper learning. I highly recommend this school to anyone who wants to give their children the very best educational and developmental opportunites! read more

The Journey School is a gem! The class is small and our son has really excelled this year. Working within the Montessori model they give a lot of individual attention and there is a lot of pier group work both of which have been very effective and human. There is little testing which is great the focus is on actual education. In addition to the normal curriculum, cooking and eating community meal once a week and the "micro-economies" (gardening, chickens and bee keeping) have been a wonderful part of the school and resulted in practical learning too. Ms. Mary is an incredibly gifted teacher and is worth the tuition by herself! On the subject of tuition, it is very reasonable, which made the choice easier. read more

I can't say enough great things about this school! Academically top rate but more importantly, renewed my daughter's enthusiasm for learning. Small, warm community so learning is at each student's own pace and focused on strengths not deficits. At a time when a lot of kids lose their way from peer pressure, my daughter found firm footing in herself and I attribute that to The Journey School. What more can you ask for? read more
